The town is under new leadership after First Selectman Brendan Rae took office earlier this month. Rae was sworn in as First Selectman on Dec. 3 and took over for George Eames the next day. Two other selectmen — Rob Chadd and Tom Hennick — were also sworn in on the same day ahead of their first meeting on Dec. 12. “I feel excited to get to work,” Rae said. “We have some work ahead of us so we’ll get right to it.” Those who visited Lyman Orchards throughout December were transported back to 19th century London, where “time travelers” were likely to bump into Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, or Tiny Tim. Eames spent time earlier this month preparing a transition document informing Rae about outstanding projects. Eames took office in August 2022 after Laura Francis resigned to take a post with the South Central Regional Council of Governments. “It’s just been, to me, a very satisfying period,” Eames said. As far as accomplishments, Eames mentioned being proud of his handling of the project that transformed the old Korn School into the town’s Community Center. The project was initially projected to cost $7.1 million, but the town was able to complete the transformation for just $700,000. Acting sessions offered for teens this winter

Using what they learned about their voices and bodies, students will delve into scenes and monologues from Shakespeare’s

She has many acting credits in New York and Los Angeles, and has appeared on the long-running TV series Law and Order. She is currently pursuing her MA in Voice Pedagogy. Obituaries William James Patterson, Sr. DURHAM - William James Patterson, 86, husband of Jane Mazzoleni Patterson of 42 School House Lane, Durham, passed away at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, in the early morning of December 19, 2023. He was born March 22, 1937, in Meriden, CT. He is predeceased by his parents, Warren Patterson and Marion Asman Patterson. Bill served in the military from 1954 through 1963 with one stent in the U.S. Army and two stents in the National Guard. He graduated from Durham High School in 1955 and illustrated the yearbook for his class. During and after his service in the military, he drove charter buses and commercial tractor trailers for JMA Trucking, as well as others, including his last employer, H.O. Penn. Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed fishing and participated in many tournaments, as well as spent many days fishing with his sons and grandsons. He also loved camping, playing cribbage, and learned to play the organ in his later years. For 20 years, he and his wife enjoyed yearly trips to Florida as snowbirds in Bradenton. In addition to his loving wife of 65 years, he is survived by two sons, William J. Patterson, Jr. and his wife, Diane (Treloar), and Michael
