A North Haven tradition in family dining, situated right on RTE 5 this longtime favorite has been delighting its hungry customers for over 30 years... whether it’s breakfast, lunch, dinner, pie a la mode and coffee or just a late night munchie – the long time family run staff at this clean and tidy restaurant is happy to host you with a smile again and again – easily one of CT’s top diners!

MCreven said Longley was a “genuine person” who also had an update attitude, even when he had surgery or was undergoing treatment. “I really envy how he was with that because I really don’t know how he stayed so positive,” McCreven said.

Classic diner fare, international dishes & Greek specialties mingle at this family-owned favorite.

320 Washington Ave, North Haven, CT 203-239-0663

He said he was looking for a way to honor Longley after he passed, and decided a fundraiser would be the way to do it, and he expects he’ll remain motivated to continue to honor his friend next SPRING year.

or ETFs that emphasize dividend-paying stocks.

Passive income is broadly defined as money that comes from investments rather than employment wages. Examples include dividend income generated by stock investments or rental income derived from property you own. Passive income can play an important role in helping to meet day-to-day expenses and to accumulate wealth for retirement. According to research from Ameriprise Financial, 40% of investors across multiple generations have some form of passive income, and more than two-thirds (77%) of investors say passive income is important or very important to their retirement strategy.

2. Bonds and bond index funds or ETFs Investing in bonds is another way to generate income. Even if you are in the accumulation stage of life, bond income can play an important role in helping you build wealth. Not only do bonds offer a way to diversify a stock portfolio, but in today’s market, bond yields are increasingly attractive. Consider that at the end of 2021, the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note was 1.52%. At the end of August 2023, the yield was more than 4%. Bond funds and ETFs are generally offering more competitive payouts today as well.

ers Consortium. Readers were able to ask questions of the author about her writing process and the unique subject of the book. In “Zero Days,” a husband and wife team work as pen testers, meaning they try to find vulnerabilities in secure facilities by acting as wouldbe hackers and burglars. When the husband, Gabe, is murdered, his wife, Jack, is identified as the main suspect by the police. Jack is left to solve the murder on her own. Earlier this year, “Zero Days” was optioned by Universal Studios to be made into a series. Ware published her first thriller, “In A Dark, Dark Wood,” in 2015. This was inspired by a conversation she had with a friend at a coffee shop. The thriller is about a ‘hen party’ – more commonly known as a ‘bachelorette party’ in the US. Prior to

writing that, Ware worked as an English teacher and a waitress. The idea for “Zero Days” came about when Ware was

researching her 2019 book, “The Turn of the Key,” which is a thriller set in a SMART home. “I started listening to a

From there, Ware started learning more about cybersecurity and became interested in the idea of pen testers. Ware said she was intrigued not just by the technical capabilities of pen testers, but how they chose to use those skills.

Readers asked how Ware continues to surprise her audience in her books. In response, she drew a distinction between reveals and This is the basis for the char- true plot twists. “Once you've acquired all of that knowledge, all of those skills, you choose not to use them nefariously, but to try to make the world a safer place,” Ware said. “I was completely fascinated by the kind of person who would walk that path almost up until opening the door at the end of it, but then turn away.” Listening to podcasts wasn’t the only research Ware did for “Zero Days.” In writing the book, she listened to interviews with pen testers, spoke to police officers about hunting people on the run, and consulted on medical questions with a family

“Whereas I think a twist is an answer to a question that the reader was not thinking about,” Ware said. To Ware, this makes real plot twists much more difficult to achieve. But “Zero Days” is about more than just suspense. “Fundamentally, the book is about grief, really. Jack's on this kind of ridiculous quest. It's because she cannot deal with what has happened to her husband,” Ware said. A recording of the event can be found on the North Haven Library website.

value over time. 5. Real estate investment trusts (REITs) If the idea of generating income from owning properties appeals to you, but you don’t feel prepared to tackle the challenge of direct ownership, REITs offer an alternative. REITs are professionally managed like mutual funds, with money invested in properties such as office buildings, apartment complexes, retail spaces, warehouses or hotels. Those who invest in REITs primarily benefit from the income stream generated by the properties held. REITs are subject to market risk and various fees, and dividends are taxed as regular income. Evaluate any investment options carefully to understand how it may impact your situation. Work within your overall plan Passive income is most effective when the investment strategy is implemented within the context of your overall financial plan (with the plan itself designed according to your unique goals, timeframe to achieve

them, and level of financial risk you want to accept along the way). Work with your financial advisor to determine how best to incorporate passive income strategies. A professional can discuss the advantages and drawbacks of the strategies above in more detail, and point you to other options not listed here. And as a final tip, keep in mind that while passive is in the name, you should regularly review your passive income strategy to make sure it’s helping you achieve your financial goals.

Intelligent and dedicated Editor : I am writing to support the re-election of Nancy Barrett for North Haven Board of Finance. I have gotten to know her personally over the past few years and I can say that she is an intelligent, dedicated, honest, and trustworthy person. Nancy makes sure that all the rules are followed at meetings. She has a lot of budgeting experience and asks the relevant questions about every item on the agenda. I believe that her presence on this Board has had a positive effect on the Town of North Haven. I know that Nancy cares a lot about North Haven and how it is run. Having her continued involvement in our local Government is a plus for us all. Please vote for Nancy Barrett on November 7th.
