Introduction: Welcome to our September in season Podcast here at RecipeThis.com. I love September and living in the Algarve it is such an amazing beautiful month. Unlike when we grew up in the UK when it was all about the leaves falling off the tree and the dark nights drawing in, we just don’t have the same vibe. For us it is 35 degrees instead of 40, fresh fruit rules in the food department and the tourists are arriving less and less making it our time to enjoy the summer. We have lots of beach days, trips to the water parks, trips to the zoo and eat lots of food. Food tends to me more about eating in and eating a lot of chicken in September. This is because in August there is a lot of food festivals and we are missing regular everyday home cooking. The barbecue is still very much alive and it isn’t until the end of September that school goes back and the nights start to draw in. Until then it is still summer party season in the Algarve and that is exactly how we like things!

September Foods In Season Let’s start our foods in season for September and lets see what is in season around the world and what you can buy right now to be able to a) eat wholesomely b) eat frugally.


Foods In Season #1 – Apples

YEAH. We have apples. Big fat juicy ones too. I just love apples. I love the simplicity of them chopped up with some cinnamon or made into apple chips in the Airfryer. They are just so good and perfect for eating instantly. Or you can always crumble them, pie them or salad them. Apple Recipe Suggestions Lets start off with apple butter pulled pork. Just because pulled pork with apple butter goes together like salt goes with pepper. After this I would also suggest:


• Apple & Cinnamon Pancakes • Airfryer Mini Apple Pies • Apple & Butternut Squash Soup • Airfryer Apple Chips Foods In Season #2 – Blackberries

Next on the list we have blackberries. A fruit that I admit to not having as frequently as I would like to, but is perfect in home baking. I often get it in a pack of 3 with blueberries and raspberries and it will get mixed up and often used in a delicious homemade trifle. Blackberries Recipe Suggestions


Who doesn’t just love skinny French toast and Eileen has cracked it with her fruity skinny French Toast at Everyday Eileen. If you love apple then the chances are you will love pears too. Well not in our household. Kyle hates pears with a passion and adores apples. We often have them mixed in a fruit salad or in a fruit crumble. You can also find lots of them in our fruit bowl with bite marks in as my 2 year old hasn’t learnt yet, that you finish one before moving onto another! Pear Recipe Suggestions I love these cute little pear and cranberry pies. They are from Sweet Peas & Saffron and OMG aren’t they pretty? After this I would also suggest: • Parsnip, Apple & Pear Soup • Baked Pears • Cucumber & Pear Salad • Poached Pears Foods In Season #4 – Apricots With apricot being in the same fruit stone family as the plum, the peach and the nectarine, I feel that I forget about the apricot. The peach is always the stoned fruit of choice, but I pledge now to eat more apricots! Apricot Recipe Suggestions Starting off with these apricot glazed grilled chicken from Everything Eileen. Just because


they a) look amazing and b) because I am always sold with a fruit glazed piece of chicken. After this I would also suggest: • Easy Asian Chicken • Pork & Veggies Stir Fry • Apricot Glazed Ham • Apricot Glazed Carrots Foods In Season #5 – Nectarine Then sticking with the same stoned fruit family we have the nectarine. It tastes very similar and is perfect for a quick snack to take with you to work, for picnics or for using in a smoothie. Whether you call them a peach or a nectarine they are a must eat this September. Nectarine Recipe Suggestions Well I have never seen pancakes look as good as these bacon and peach pancakes. They look absolutely splendid and I would love to eat them all day,

Foods In Season #6 – Garden Peas I LOVE garden peas. Whether you call them garden peas, frozen peas or even plain old peas, they still taste just as good. They are the ONLY frozen food that I buy. Just because they lock in the nutrients when frozen and are perfect for a filler for a recipe. I love them in a frittata, a paella and of course in a stew. Garden Peas Recipe Suggestions For a good starting point then use up the leftovers with these Thai Veggie Bites. I find that by adding some spare garden peas to the mixture, brings the greens out. Lettuce has always had that terrible reputation. I mean nobody likes it do they? Plus it often goes off in the bottom of your fridge and ends up in the bin. But lettuce is very good for you and you can make great use out of it! Lettuce Recipe Suggestions As we are also heading into turkey season it wouldn’t be the same without turkey and lettuce burrito wraps. A delicious combo for using up your leftover turkey and lettuce. Airfryer Cheesy Chicken Sandwich Recipe Welcome to our Airfryer Cheesy Chicken Sandwich recipe. This is the September in season Podcast recipe and we wanted something that was loaded up with chicken that we could put quickly in the Airfryer and this idea sprang to mind.

Author: RecipeThis.com Serves: 2 Preparation time: 1 Minute Cooking time: 12 Minutes

Ingredients: • Airfryer

Airfryer Grill Pan 4 Slices Wholemeal Bread 2 Large Chicken Strips 100g Cheddar Cheese 1Tbsp Olive Oil 1Tbsp Tarragon Salt & Pepper

Method: 1. Season your chicken strips with tarragon, salt and pepper. Sprinkle with a little olive oil and place it in the Airfryer via the grill pan and cook for 8 minutes at 180c/360f. 2. When the chicken is cooked place it on 2 of the 4 slices of bread, cover it with cheese, put the other slices on top and place it into the Airfryer in the grill pan. 3. Cook for 180c/360f for 4 minutes. 4. Then slice and serve.

Notes: To me a chicken strip is when you buy chicken breast that is flattened out and is about half the thickness of a regular chicken breast. It then cooks quicker but tastes just as good and is often half the price. If you don’t have chicken strips then using a vegetable knife half the height of your chicken so that you have 2 pieces.
