Roncalli High School

speak up student activism edition

Sophomore Jeanne Sering spends time with students attending Hope for Tomorrow, an after-school program that reaches out to the Burmese population in Indianapolis and the focal organization of Roncalli’s 2018 Lenten Almsgiving Project. The students are children of refugees and come to the facility three days a week to learn language and culture skills. However, volunteering at Hope for Tomorrow isn’t the only way that students have demonstrated interest in their community. The current generation of teenagers has taken a particular interest in activism, whether that be protesting for school safety, advocating for better opportunities in education, promoting mental health awareness or volunteering at organizations like Hope for Tomorrow. In this issue, we highlight some passionate students at Roncalli who are pushing for change in their immediate communities and the world.
