the question: Is it better to close at a particular time of the month?

the answer: There are differing opinions on this topic. Many lenders will tell you to close at the end of the month so that you have to pay less in per diem interest for the money borrowed from the bank. However, if the extra cash out of pocket is not the biggest concern I would recommend closing at a slower time of the month as your lender and closing attorney will not be as busy. This will help in getting you the closing date and time you want and should make the whole process less stressful. Of course, if you are a cash buyer then timing is not a big issue, but I would still pick a time of the month other than the end so as to not be caught up with those getting loans.

Food safety tips for the holidays (StatePoint) Great food is the centerpiece of any holiday celebration, and practicing safe food handling in the kitchen is an important part of holiday meal preparation.

There are certain steps you can take to keep friends and family safe from food poisoning.

Cutting boards, dishes, utensils and counter tops should be washed with hot water and soap after preparing each food item, and before going on to the next. Keep plenty of

Keep raw meat, poultry, seafood and eggs and their juices away from ready-to-eat foods, like salad ingredients. Using separate cutting boards is one way to reduce opportunities for cross-contamination.

Even an experienced cook can`t tell if food is cooked safely by how it looks, so use a food thermometer to ensure you’re cooking turkeys, ham, egg dishes and other foods to a safe internal temperature. Chill The holiday celebration is great -- and even better if you have delicious leftovers. Just remember to enjoy them within four days.

Bacteria spread fastest at temperatures between 40 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit, so chill food promptly -- within two hours -- at a refrigerator temperature of 40 degrees or below. Appliance thermometers are inexpensive and can help you monitor your refrigerator’s temperature.

Eat Healthy Choosing healthy snacks and avoiding fatty meals can help reduce your risk of heart disease, diabetes and certain forms of cancer. Foods that are low in saturated fat and dietary cholesterol and high in fiber can help prevent high cholesterol, according to the CDC. Additionally, several studies suggest that eating fish can help protect against prostate cancer because they have "good fat," particularly omega-3 fatty acids.

Exercise Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial to preventing heart disease. Physical activity will help lower your blood pressure and cholesterol. According to the Surgeon General, adults should engage in moderately intense exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. By maintaining a healthy weight, you will also lower your risk for diabetes.

Relax Don’t sweat the small stuff. Reducing your stress at work and at home can help improve your overall health and lead to a longer, happier life. Seek medical treatment for stress, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and depression. Treating these conditions may save your life and have been shown to improve survivorship in prostate cancer.
