This Land of Variety and Abundance by Louanne Headrick “Variety is the spice of life,” so the statement goes, but can we imagine variety more abundant than that which resides in the Mind of God? Just how blessed are we within the great Circle of Life knowing that abundance includes all living matter? The trees, the flowers, animals of all description, the sea, even the sand are included within living matter. All are alive within the Intelligent Field of the Divine Matrix, the Field of God Energy, so sprawling, so enriching, so inclusive that nothing can be missed from within that Circle of Life. Is this variety in place for our wonderment, our sustenance, or both? Certainly each item holds fascination for someone somewhere. I am reminded of all the persons making a living because of the gifts of flora and fauna upon the earth. There are florists, marine biologists, ornithologists,1 ichthyologists,2 forest rangers, veterinarians, fiber artists, herbalists, floriculturists, bakers, farmers, field hands, cowboys, 1 A scientist who studies birds. 2 Zoological scientiest who deal with fieshes.

shepherds, butchers, herdsmen, hunters, tanners, trappers, weavers and cloth makers, plus, plus, plus. The abundance and variety of gifts within nature are so far reaching that I get lost in the looking. In the gracious overlapping of each, I lose my way. Since we are all one, I can see how, because of flora and fauna, everyone is involved with them in some way. Think of doctors and nurses. Are they caring for persons who have overindulged in flora and fauna over the years or perhaps are having an allergic reaction to them? So many aspects to each subject could be the probable cause of this earth’s systems to be almost as complex as the Mind of God–that which Earnest Holmes states is “First Cause.” It is within our grasp to understand personal needs of the mental, spiritual or physical sort. Reaching maturity in those pathways means that we do not take advantage of the gifts of variety and abundance of the earth, but try to be parsimonious in their use and careful in disposing of the leavings

when we have finished. This rule of thumb is true also in relationships which can be abundant as well. We do not take advantage of goodness given freely but we do take care to respect the person and the gift. Sometimes the gift is that of a partner who has given their pledge and their lifetime in support of our lifetime. What an abundant gift. Is there any more significant gift than that? But let’s keep it simple. Do you want a ginger cookie, a peanut butter cookie or a spice cookie? In this great land of variety and abundance, you can have one of each or more. Louanne Headrick is a Registered Nurse, past Hospice Nurse and past Staff Development Director, now retired. She is a Signature Member of the Florida Watercolor Society and one of its former teachers, a long-time student of the work of Ernest Holmes and leader of a local Religious Science study group. She is pursuing her final year as student of Practitioner Studies of Religious Science. Please see ad for her study group this page.

Quiet Heroes

A

ll living things are constantly speaking to us. We can hear or sense them if only we will stop and listen. They vibrate messages of comfort, healing, caution and protection. Not possessing ego yet conscious sentient beings, they vibrate on elevated frequencies, therefore the wisdom they share so freely and of which we accept so little, is high and pure. In the early days of my spiritual path, a spiritual mentor took my friend and I outside into her beautiful backyard complete with giant copper pyramid, wind chimes, mighty oak trees and sprightly flowers and told us to hug the giant tree in the middle of the yard. “You’re kidding, right?” I said to her. Of course, she wasn’t kidding. Because something kept pushing me to stick with Barbara through all the

outrageous lessons and trials I was experiencing under her bewildering tutelage, I very reluctantly put my arms around the tree making sure I went to the backside of the tree so she wouldn’t see me laughing. I was impressed with my girlfriend though. She approached this exercise very seriously, but I was so consumed by social consciousness and ego, I felt nothing at all except that ridiculousness and frustration because I didn’t get what Barbara was trying to show us. I get it now though. I adore the sound of wind blowing through pine needles, or leaves, or palm fronds. They’re like the talking, walking trees in the Wizard of Oz, only friendlier. These resplendent pillars of wisdom and strength give us their unconditional healing and lifesustaining love and, in return, we tend to demonstrate how oblivious we are to it. The first tree of character I remember is a lone birch tree which stood in the middle of our backyard up North. I was

five and as I touched its white bark and fine papery skin that was so different from all the other trees in the neighborhood, I was touched by it in return. The birch tree was like a cool teenager a kid looks up to and it’s a prominent memory from my childhood. It’s sad that over time we are trained to forget what we as young children instinctively feel and know. In the driveway leading up to my house are two mammoth cypress trees. One night not too long ago, I wrapped my arms around one of them, rested the side of my face on its trunk and was taken by surprise to hear a very clear message: “This is your homeland. You are home.” I’ve since realized that this message has many meanings and not just the one we can easily take from the surface. Take a walk in your neighborhood and stop frequently to breathe in the prana from the trees, to really get sensitive to their ethereal energies and to give back love and deep appreciation to them. They are our quiet (and very mystical) heroes.

If you can dream it, you can live it. Learn to listen to your Higher Self and the loving guidance of your angels. Receive a foretelling of future possibilities to help heal and support you as you come to know you are perfect, whole, and complete. REVERSE RUPTURED, HERNIATED, AND BULGING DISCS WITHOUT SURGERY! Introducing the Neuromuscular Pain Relief Center

M

any people suffer from severe neck and back pain because of ruptured, bulging, and herniated discs. As a result of Michelle Hamel’s work, thousands of patients have avoided painful surgery, nerve blocks, and drugs. Michelle Hamel is a licensed neuromuscular therapist and owner of The Neuromuscular Pain Relief Center. She specializes in the non-surgical elimination of disc and nerve-related pain.

Where does back pain typically come from?

It comes from repetitive motion and accidents. In fact, many of our normal daily activities can lead to back pain.

What causes the back pain?

Between the vertebrae a disc can migrate towards the spinal column and place pressure on a branch of the sciatic nerve. Let’s think about a jelly doughnut. When we bend the jelly doughnut forward the jelly comes out the back. This is similar to what happens with the discs between our vertebrae. When the disc pushes against the nerve we feel pain. This can occur in the upper, middle, and lower back. We all have a tendency to lean forward which causes flexion of the spine. This causes posterior disc migration.

What can I do about it?

Michelle’s unique soft tissue protocols can painlessly and quickly return these migrated discs to their normal and correct position. This will recreate your natural structural balance and end the pain cycle.

pain. Michelle guarantees significant relief after your first visit. Within three to five visits you will be pain free! Michelle clearly explains to her clients what actually happens to the body when injury occurs and once healed, educates them on how they can remain pain-free for life. Not only does Michelle work on the inflammation caused by disc or nerve entrapment, she works on the systemic inflammation caused by what we eat, drink, and think. She coaches clients with unique detoxification therapies that enhance the body’s healing processes. This detoxification re-establishes healthy lymphatic circulation throughout the body. This helps to resolve many health issues that may interfere with long-term wellness.

Michelle Hamel asks that you allow her to be your coach and share her secrets to a long and healthy life with you. She is a licensed massage therapist and neuromuscular massage therapist (#MA0009077). She is also a certified nutritional coach and additionally certified in lymphatic drainage by Teslar Global Technologies Inc. Here’s how Wally Temple feels about Michelle’s work: “I began experiencing pain in my right hip and groin area fol-

lowed by ever-increasing numbness in my right thigh. After visiting my primary care physician, I was referred to one of Orlando's prominent orthopedic clinics. After a couple office visits

there, X-rays, an MRI, physical therapy, and anti-inflammatory drugs, my condition did not improve very much. Fortunately, when mentioning this to a friend with a similar problem in the

past, he recommended Michelle Hamel at the Neuromuscular Pain Relief Center. After a consultation with Michelle, and her review of my history on this matter including radiology reports, Michelle suggested my problem might be a bulging disc and

not a hip, groin, leg, or other area problem after all. The pain

from those areas was originating at the source of the problem–

a bulging disc. During a few weeks of soft tissue treatment by Michelle, my pain subsided and was quickly eliminated. Mi-

chelle also guided me in establishing some continuing self-help treatment. I highly recommend Michelle Hamel to anyone with

back problems, and/or herniated, bulging, or degenerative disc problems.

Michelle Hamel has spent 18 years studying the neuromuscular workings of the body and has developed unique soft tissue protocols which reverse bulging, herniated, and ruptured discs and their associated

It’s Not Nice to Fool Mother Nature Say NO to GMO Seeds by Lekoma Akate

N

ow that we are thinking about our spring gardens, we have to make some decisions. What varieties do we plant? When making a choice of the variety of each crop, consider your preferences. If you are planting tomatoes, determine what size, color, flavor, etc. you want. Some varieties have more disease resistance and some varieties do better in hot climates. If you are in Florida, you might do best not planting a variety that does well in the Midwest. When choosing varieties, consider all the qualities of that variety, including if it is GMO (Genetically Modified Organism)1, hybrid2 or heirloom.3 Why is it so important to say no to GMO? Genetically Modified Organisms are unpredictable. GMO varieties are created by blasting a gene from a different species into the DNA of the plant using a gene gun. A fish gene is blasted into strawberry DNA to increase tolerance to cold weather. The problem lies in that the process can not be controlled and destroys part of the plant DNA. There is no way to know what part of the DNA it is joining with or destroying. This changes the DNA of the plant and increases mutations. The added genetic material is very unstable and transfers when the plant decomposes or is eaten. The increased frequency of genetic mutations continue as the gene is passed along. 1 Genetically Modified Organism: an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. 2 Seed produced by cross-pollination. 3 A plant variety produced by selective breeding that is still maintained by gardeners and farmers particularly in isolated or ethnic communities. These may have been commonly grown during earlier periods in human history, but are no longer used in modern big agriculture.

The technology is much more complicated than can be explained in a short article. It is imprecise and uncontrolled, and there is no way of predicting or controlling which of the plant’s genes will be affected or the extent of the effects. The process not only destroys some of the original plant DNA but mutates other parts of the DNA. There is cross-breeding in nature known as crosspollination. If the traits of the resulting plant are beneficial in some way, it can survive and even thrive. The DNA of these plants is not prone to frequent mutation. The same goes for hybrid varieties. The thing about hybrids is that the seeds from those plants will not be true to the parent plant. Also, most hybrids are bred for traits beneficial to commercial growers, increased storage, uniform shape, color, etc. Flavor and nutritional quality are usually not considered as important. Heirloom varieties have been around for many decades and have been shown over an extended period to yield good qualities the home gardener values. Saving seeds from heirloom varieties has gone on for hundreds, if not thousands of years. These continue to be varieties that taste better, have more disease resistance and more nutritional value. Let’s work with nature rather than manipulate it. It makes more sense! Lekoma Akate is a native New Orleanian who moved from New Orleans to Central Florida in 2010. He has earned a Masters of Science from Louisiana State University and a Masters of Education from the University of New Orleans. PLANTS AS MESSENGERS by Dawn Gates

In today’s world, it’s easy to forget that everything is connected. Our world is filled with hurry and neglect and so it is easy to walk by and miss the messages the world is trying to send us. Plants are nature’s ultimate messengers. When they are romantically sending out pollen, we sneeze. When they grow in our driveway, some try to kill them with toxic chemicals (but they always come back, don’t they?). When trees fall down during a terrible storm, we get upset because they damaged our pretty landscape. But what are they really trying to tell us? Sometimes the messages are clear such as pollen=allergies, but the meanings of the messages are much deeper than that. Think about it. If you look around and pay attention to how plants interact with the universe you will find that they communicate messages on how to take care of ourselves and live in harmony with nature. A good example is allergic reactions we may have during pollen season. We may be allergic to the pollen trees send out to fertilize seeds. If we are allergic to the pollen of a certain tree, we should talk to the tree and ask it to be our friend. We should try to discover what the trees are saying to us. Is there some spiritual or mundane thing we need to undertake in our lives? We should make a tea with some of its leaves or needles–a natural way to build immunity to its pollen and to bond with the spirit of the tree. Often weeds grow abundantly all around us. What are they trying to tell us? It depends on the weed and how much of it there is. If there is a lot of a particular kind of weed we may very well soon need it as a medicine. (We may need an expert plant identification before we eat it.) For example, the year before my husband Eric was diagnosed with kidney cancer, the weed Chamberbitter (also known as Phyllanthus urinaria L) growing wildly in my yard so I harvested it and made a tincture from it. I knew it was for cancer and

kidney stones and not much else. When Eric got diagnosed I started giving the tincture to him. His kidney still had to be removed, but it may have kept him from getting cancer somewhere else. The Chamberbitter was sending us a message that soon we would need it. Luckily, I was paying attention at the time and was able to capture some of it in tincture form. The summer after Eric’s cancerfilled kidney was removed, hardly any of the weed was growing in our yard.

Chamberbitter

If a tree falls in your yard and it’s not from disease or injury, it may be trying to tell you something. A Dakota myth tells the story of a strong warrior who was braver than most when one day a big oak fell on him. He lived, but the moral of the story was that even the young and strong can fall like the great oak if they are doing too much, if they are too brave or foolhardy or if they don’t pay attention to the winds around them. A newly fallen tree near a dwelling may be thought to be a warning to change our ways or fall like the great tree. The messages of nature are there for all of us to hear and to see. We just have to pay attention.

NOW by Colleen Gordon

Are we willing to stop defining our tasks as only a means to an end and really pay attention instead? What if each nitty-gritty task is perfection itself and we keep missing it because we are looking for something else?

As we are washing dishes, if we focus only on getting the dishes done so that our kitchen will be clean, we miss everything that happens between dirty and clean. We miss the warmth of the water, the smell of the soap, the pop of the bubbles, the movements of our hands. We miss the life that happens in the middle zone between now and what we think our life should be like. And when we miss those moments because we would rather be doing something else, we are missing our own life. The moments are gone. We will never get them back. Even when we become somebody because we finally arrive where we were headed, our life may not be any better if we have not learned to be awake, alive and in the now. It is just as easy to be miserable when we are somebody special as it is when we are a ‘nobody,’ because even somebody special still has to live in her own skin and deal with boredom, rejection, loneliness and disappointment. Even somebody special comes home at night and does what the nobodies do–fall asleep alone. We might as well learn how to pay attention now, learn how to inhabit the life we have chosen, learn how to take up every inch of our skin and occupy the space in the bodies we were given.

How we spend our days is how we spend our life. We must be honest and ask ourselves how we want to spend our days. Why not be aware of our breath and the ticking clock while we go about our daily chores? Whatever it offers, the reality of our daily lives has to be better than the self-inflicted misery we create through the stories we keep telling ourselves. Come back. Break the trance. We can pay attention to our breath, our arms, our legs. We can listen to sounds–the scrape of a chair and the whir of the copy machine. We can notice colors–the blue of a friend’s dress, the coffee stain on our table. We can wake up to the wonders of life around us every second. What if every day was a chance to see a new version of God? What if what we needed was right there in front of us and we just did not recognize it? We already have everything we need to be content. Our real work is to do whatever it takes to realize that. Then it won’t matter if we are somebody special or nobody in particular because we will be fully alive in every moment which is all we ever wanted anyway. The Value of a Drop of Water

Then there is the care and encouragement we receive from our friends and relatives and the daily necessities furnished by people from the different trades and professions. When we want to take a walk, there are parks in every community. When we want to go somewhere, there are broad, smooth highways everywhere. Bus drivers take us to our destinations when we wish to visit our friends. The postal carrier delivers our mail through sleet and snow, and technicians work hard to install the necessary wiring so that we can telephone our loved ones thousands of miles away and our homes can be lit up with electricity. Should we need anything, the shops and malls are full of products to satisfy our every need. At mealtime, the food on the table is nutritious and delicious. We should realize that every stitch of clothing and each morsel of food is not easy to come by. We have received all kinds of causes and conditions from our families and relatives and all kinds of support from our communities that enable us to live in abundance and ease. Therefore, “do not dismiss a drop of water for its small size, and do not regard a small act of kindness as being negligible.” A drop of water is the result of the strength of the universe, and a small act of kindness is the accomplishment of all of one’s good intentions. The offering of a small part of our hearts is as good as any other offering to all the Dharma realms and sentient beings in all directions.

by Venerable Master Hsing Yun

A single spark can raze an entire plain, and a drop of water can pierce a rock over time.” A drop of water can penetrate deep into the earth, and its strength can eventually flatten a hill. Drops of water can also form streams, rivers, seas, and oceans. When a drop of water is sprinkled onto flowers and plants, its moisture can bring forth growth and blossoms. A drop of water is like sweet morning dew to a thirsty person. We should never dismiss a drop of water for being small, for billowing waves and raging rivers are formed from drops of water. Once, a Japanese Chan master carried a bucket of water for his teacher to wash his feet. When he was finished, there was still water left in the bucket which he just casually threw out. His master chided, “You are desecrating the value of nature’s resources! A drop of water can save lives and provide moisture; a drop of water can become an ocean and flow on endlessly. How can you waste half a bucket of water so casually?” Upon hearing his teacher’s words, the Chan master broke out in a cold sweat. He later changed his name to “Water Drop” in memory of the lesson learned and eventually became a renowned monk in Japan. We often say in Chinese, “Upon receiving a drop of generosity from others, we should repay it with gratitude in gushing torrents.” This is such a wonderful way to relate to others! In reflecting on our lives in this world, the help and generosity we receive from others is far from being just a “drop”– the benefits of all heaven and earth have been bestowed on us! In our lives, our parents’ efforts to raise us can hardly be compared to a drop of water. Our teachers educated us so our gratitude to them should be as immense as the ocean.

Nature Spirits of Cassadaga by Cynthia Botsko

All is one, and everything has a spirit, from organic to inorganic. All is in nature and is of the energy of the Universe. Native American and other tribal traditions talk of the spirit and medicine-power of things–trees, animals, rocks and mountains. Near East traditions such as Shambhala philosophy speak of devas, nature spirits akin to elemental energies. Many European rural or pagan traditions speak of elementals–basic nature spirits of the four symbolic, natural elements (fire, air, water, earth). Other popular traditions stemming from Celtic cultural heritage especially in Ireland acknowledge fairies (by many names and titles) as nature spirits and earth angels.

These nature spirits are caretakers of the natural world from trees and flowers to streams and fields. There seem to be endless classes of fairies, or at least innumerable names and references, often based on

what the entity does such as a water sprite who cares for a particular stream, or a dryad who cares for a particular tree. Cassadaga, Florida is a notable area around significant ley line energies. The area is a step back from the hustle-and-bustle of urban life and is almost like a step into the Otherworld or the Fairylands. Many kinds of spirit phenomena occur as a part of daily life in a very obvious way in Cassadaga partly because of those who perceive and observe the phenomena and partly because of the area’s high vibration of energies. Orbs, visibly captured in photography and sometimes with the naked-eye, are concentraContinued on page 21

healthy for our bodies and our planet. There is now an abundance of documentaries, books and studies with irrefutable data all sharing the benefits of local, organic and plant-based diets. This access to information is allowing folks to get informed. They are finding it more inviting to be veg-curious while recognizing that local and organic is not an elitist movement, it’s one that belongs to the people taking back their health from the corporations and Big Ag industries.

EVERYDAY FLEXITARIANS

BY JULIE NORRIS CONTRIBUTING COMMUNITY EDITOR

Seven years ago, I opened a community café. We wanted to offer our neighbors a place to enjoy wholesome food that was better for the environment and optimal for our bodies. Data abounds about the benefits of eating locally grown, so we helped spearhead a local food revival that now has firm roots. It is not neighborly to serve carcinogenic food so we opt for organic fare. The environmental, health and humane reasons for sticking with a vegetarian menu were too compelling to ignore even though I hadn’t made the personal choice to become a vegetarian yet. We have always considered ourselves a community café first and foremost, and for that reason we rarely advertised ourselves as a vegetarian café. Instead, we opted to call ourselves veg-friendly because we knew that a majority of non-vegetarian diners would immediately dismiss coming to eat with us, and we would end up being an exclusive place where only vegetarians eat. Ours is an inclusive community, one where people of all dietary preferences are welcome to enjoy delicious food. What we’ve discovered is that there is a new willingness in people of all stripes to adopt what I call a flexitarian approach to food. Having meat protein with every meal is actually very rigid if you think about it, based on conditioning and habits, but not rooted in knowledge of what is

A flexitarian is a person who makes conscious consumption decisions and isn’t afraid to examine their habits to shift to more healthful choices. This usually entails a reduction in processed foods, meat and/ or dairy consumption with an increase in whole foods, organics and local/seasonal ingredients. While some people can go raw vegan overnight when they learn about the benefits, that might not be the most sustainable path into wholesome eating for everyone. Sensible flexibility can be a bridge to taking responsibility for any personal habits that may have contributed to dis-ease in our own bodies as well as environmental and social crisis. By making deliberate decisions instead of falling back on brand loyalty and habits, people are changing their eating habits by losing addictions to sugar, unhealthy fats and reducing exposure to toxins, antibiotics and other harmful ingredients that have infiltrated our mass produced food

system. Incorporating a trip to the local farmers’ market is a festive community event that makes us feel more connected to one another while also providing healthy food. Instead of crying to get out of the shopping cart and demanding I buy candy in the checkout lane, my daughter can run around with other kids and dance to music while I shop for the week. I like this flexibility. It is without guilt. It is self-paced. It often involves merriment. When I know better, I do better. And I do better when I know where my edge is and gently push myself to become a healthier individual. Julie Norris is manager and co-proprietor of Dandelion Communitea Café, founding board director of the Progressive Local Alliance for Community Enrichment (PLACE) and serves on the boards of Slow Food and Mills Fifty Mainstreet. She’s an avid supporter of the local art, music and food culture, and showcases the diverse people and happenings in ‘Ourlando’ on her weekly radio program, Front Porch Radio. They may be the spirits of those people and pets who have crossed over or from nature spirits and fairies and they can be encountered around the natural settings, meditation gardens, and parks in Cassadaga. They care for our pets, wildlife, and gardens. They help us around the home and in the community. And they guide us in always recognizing the high energies, the ley line vortices and thresholds between realms (Fairyland, Otherworld, spirit world, etc.). In honor of the Spring Equinox on March 20 (Ostara), Brighid’s Well in Cassadaga (formerly known as the Universal Centre of Cassadaga) has calendared a number of events which will be themed for the nature-loving throughout March. Brighid’s Well will be hosting Brighid’s Fairy Faire on Saturday, March 30. With the guidance and participation of John and Patricia Springer, there will be an Enchanted Walkabout through the fairy populated areas of the land and a myriad of vendors and entertainers will be present. This is a family-friendly event with activities and craft booths for kids. We at Brighid’s Well invite everyone to dress up, sparkle some glam, and come on down to join us! “The month of March in 2013 marks the 43rd anniversary of our ‘spiritual operations’ here in Cassadaga,” says Cynthia, the owner of Brighid’s Well. There have been many changes over the years from Dr. Ernie Sekunna, Rev. Bonnie Bemus, and their fellow metaphysicians beginning this endeavor in 1970, to Matthew Sekunna’s mid-90s overhaul of the Universal Centre, up to the present incarnation of Brighid’s Well. “We are just so blessed have such a wonderful place in Cassadaga and a beautiful community in which to work with helping others to heal and learn and grow. I look forward to continuing the best of our traditions and to growing new ones as well,” reflects Cynthia.

Brighid’s Well is owned and operated by Cynthia Botsko, wife of E. Matthew Sekunna. The Sekunna family has owned and operated the Universal Centre at 460 Cassadaga Road since 1970. Matthew and Cynthia decided to re-establish the family business in 2011 as a way to engage the shifting flow of energies in Cassadaga and around the world. For more information on Brighid’s Well and upcoming events, check out the website www.cassadaga. com. Store hours are Wednesday-Sunday from 10 am to 7pm. Call Brighid’s Well at 386-246-8610. C O N S C I O U S T R A N S F O R M AT I O N

FALL BACK TO SPRING FORWARD As we enter the next season of spring and its equinox, many changes take place. Flowers bloom, winter weather is behind us and we anticipate warmer weather. We set our clocks one hour ahead for daylight savings time and our day begins a bit later in the morning giving us another hour of daylight towards the end of the day. Although spring is a time for changes in our life, many of which will move us ahead, it is also a time to look back and see what we can release that doesn’t serve us.

BY ANTHONY J. DIAZ Many of use springtime for cleaning, getting rid of clutter and those belongings we no longer use. Doesn’t it feel good to toss out stuff that’s been accumulating in our space? There is a light feeling when we have more space in our lives, isn’t there? We can also do the same for feelings, thoughts and relationships that no longer provides us joy and fulfillment. What thoughts have you been carrying around that affirm an illusion of lack and limitation? Now is a perfect time to replace these thoughts with prosperity and abundance. We all have so much to be thankful for in our lives when we put our attention there, so when these thoughts try to make their way into our consciousness, we must remember all the people and experiences we have in our lives that make us feel blessed. What feelings do you have other than pure joy and bliss? Although they appear to be real, these feelings do not reflect your inner truth and who you really are. I invite you to visualize what that would look like. What in your life brings you happiness? Our truth is love, light and life and everything else is just an illusion we’ve created from the experiences we’ve had. Our past is not fact…just experiences we’ve had along the way. Now is also the time to detach from toxic relationships that drain us and zap us of energy so that we may live our lives in more fulfilling and meaningful ways. We don’t need to know the reason why we hold on to these types of relationships, only that if the relationships do not support us and are not joyful, they are holding us back from the rich experiences we were meant to have. This type of releasing can be the most challenging but also the most rewarding. By letting go of the relationships that do not support us, we also create the space to let go of the thoughts and feelings that go along with them. We allow this void to be filled with people, thoughts and feelings that do serve our Highest Good and provide us the foundation to live the lives we desire. Sometimes, in order to spring ahead, we have to fall back and regroup. When we release what clutters our lives, we become ready to embrace a new season…a new life that awaits us. Are you ready to spring ahead? Remember, you are Perfect. You are Powerful…YOU are on Purpose. Now go out and en-joy the life you were meant to live. Namasté, my friends. Anthony J. Diaz has more than a decade of practicing family law and mediation, and is considered a leader in the area of collaborative law. As an attorney and a life and spiritual coach, Anthony incorporates a healthier approach to empower those going through a divorce or any legal or personal challenge by going within themselves to understand how their outer circumstances are affected by their inner conflict. The Miracles of Spring

C O N S C I O U S T R A N S F O R M AT I O N

by Clardy Malugen Personal Transformation Contributing Editor

There’s nothing more invigorating, more breathtaking than awakening to find glorious spring flowers that have miraculously burst through the soil into full bloom. I find myself mesmerized by them, both astonished by and grateful for their exquisite beauty. Staying in that moment and allowing stream of consciousness to take over, I might ask, “Could there be a more obvious expression of the amazing power of the energy within all living things?... What was the process here?...Did a natural sequence of events just take over?...Was there a struggle to break through the soil?...Are there other plants still under the soil, equally beautiful, somehow stuck on the path to the light, not quite ready to expose their magnificence?...” As a transformational coach and speaker, I find myself embracing the simplicity and power of these natural processes more and more as time goes by. Every living thing is defined by its own magnificence and passion. Every living thing strives to embody its unique gifts. Every living thing is inherently miraculous. When I take that first look at just about everyone I meet, I’m immediately drawn to their innate magnificence. It’s just so obvious. So transparent. Everyone is so unique and so gifted. It’s fascinating… and exhilarating. Imagining the unlimited possibilities, both individually and collectively is almost mind-boggling. It’s the thing I love most about my work. So if there’s such a gold mine of gifts in-

side of each of us, why do we have such difficulties allowing them to blossom? What is stopping all of us from allowing ourselves to naturally flow along with the ever-expanding pulse of life that works so well for other living things? Why can’t you just be all that you’re clearly meant to be? Why can’t you just naturally burst through your blocks like the flowers burst through the soil? What in the world could be stopping you?

you know you deserve? Have you taken ownership of a mediocre life when everything within you is telling you to reach for the stars? Have you settled into being right about being victimized, and allowed that belief to color every choice that you’ve made ever since? Have you? Okay, good. There’s your answer. In case you forgot, the question was, “What in the world could be stopping you?” And now you have the answer.

Take a moment right now to think about what is blocking you from being all that you can be. What’s blocking you from your innate magnificence? From your perfect career…financial independence…truly loving relationships?

You. You’re stopping you.

Is your mind jumping immediately to the various traumas that you experienced as a child? Have you reached an understanding with yourself over the years to explain the reasons that you haven’t attained the level of success that

You see, it’s not those old events and traumas that are causing the issues, it’s your mind’s ability to empower them and lead them from the realm of old memories into today’s excuse for not facing your magnificence. It’s a vicious cycle that is guaranteed to drain your energy and keep your passions at bay. So how do you stop the cycle? How do you stop blocking yourself? This incredContinued page27

The Miracles of Spring continued from page 25 ibly important question has taken me years to answer. Years of utter fascination with the transformation process, years of facilitating seemingly miraculous physical and emotional healings, years of study and teaching and coaching and speaking. It’s taken awhile but I’m confident now that I know the answer. It’s pretty obvious once you get it….How do you stop blocking yourself? Ready? You just stop. Period. Couldn’t be much simpler. You just stop. In that moment, when you are resonating with your true power, when you are truly plugged in to the power of your own magnificence, you just move forward with passion. And when your ego proudly presents you the best of excuses for why it’s better to stay safe, why it’s better to stay in what it considers to be your comfort zone, when you feel yourself slipping back into the familiarity of those old patterns, you just make a choice. You stop. Like the spring flowers bursting through the soil, you forget about the soil and focus on the light. And the natural progression of life just leads you to exactly where you are destined to be. Can it really be this simple? Yes. Absolutely. I’ve watched miraculous transformations facilitated in many, many lives just by simple shifts in energy, in awareness, in focus. It’s about allowing your energy to rise to the vibrational frequency of your true magnificence. It’s about letting go of the past and trusting the essence of divinity within you. It’s about fully being who you already are. Ready to give it a try? I invite you to merge with the essence of magnificence within you and begin sharing your unique gifts. Plug in to the unlimited energy of the divine and allow us all to be mesmerized by the power and beauty within you. This spring, it’s time for you to claim your position among the many miracles around you. Become that miracle. The world has been waiting. short time ago, I provided a spiritual consultation for a woman who was doing well with a business that she and a friend had recently started. Her energy was very strong, accomplished, capable and expansive. She is a natural leader. The images and feelings that came through in guidance regarding her business showed the business expanding and both of them having a lot of fun with it. Her next question was about relationships. She currently wasn’t in one and wanted to find out how to shift that. Oftentimes, when people are successful in business leadership, they try to apply the same techniques to their relationships, creating to-do lists and having expectations of particular outcomes. It became clear as the guidance came through that it was time to spend more time occupying her heart rather than her mind in terms of how she related not only to others but to herself as well.

She lives in a city that has an extensive natural park near the center. She often walks her dog through the park. As the guidance was coming through, there was an image of her with very clear and sparkling eyes, walking her dog through the park. As they moved down the path, her energy began to expand to encompass herself, her dog, the park, and continuing out exponentially to the farthest reaches of the universe. Then there was a shift in the images and feelings offering the alternative to begin receiving her surroundings as opposed to expanding her energy into them. She walked over to a tree that had a budding pink flower. She paused and

flower had for her, fully receiving the totality of the beingness of the small but glorious flower of the tree. It was a beautiful and sacred moment. The guidance was not only for her to receive the beauty and depth of her surroundings, but to receive the delicate and intricate beauty of herself. She was being

began to take in the depth of color and texture and the scent, fully appreciating the delicate and intricate beauty of the flower. The images showed her breathing deeply, relaxing into herself and allowing the personality of the flower express itself. She was discovering its essence, its sentience, and then she waited to fully hear with her heart the message the

asked to take the time to look at herself with as much appreciation and sacredness as the little flower, to embrace herself with as much open awareness, receptivity and love, and to allow for beautiful and sacred moments to be shared between her and her own heart. Flowers, plants and trees are mirrors of our own divinity. To love ourselves as we love them is to honor the divine in all things. Angela Sparks is a spiritual consultant and teacher who has helped hundreds of individuals to trust and become more empowered in their own wisdom and inner guidance. LOVE OUR MOTHER

The Human Animal

Compassionate Herbivore or Cannibal? by Chef T, Contributing Food Editor Scientists describe virtually every living thing as either animal or plant. Since we humans are obviously not plants, we are essentially animals. What makes us different from all other animals is that we have highly developed brains capable of abstract reasoning, introspecting and communicating with relatively well developed language skills. Our phylum1 is chordata or vertebrate; our class is known as mammalia; our order is primate (as with apes). Our specie is scientifically termed homo sapiens, sapiens meaning ‘wise or knowing man.’ So if we are such wise beings who view ourselves as highly evolved, why is it that we eat other animals? Yes, it’s true that many animals eat other animals. They are created as instinctual beings many of whom are natural predators equipped with specific body parts for hunting and tearing flesh which are not unique to humans. When a predator kills its prey, its victim has lived free in the wild. Unlike so-called civilized humans, lions do not cage gazelles, for example, and feed them until they are ready for consumption.

sandwich? When we eat our fellow innocent sentient beings, we are, in essence, cannibals. The flesh we are eating is dead carcasses, actual cadavers of once living, breathing beings who felt pain as they were killed. That same vibration of pain and death is taken into our bodies when we eat the dead flesh. This practice cannot sustain life or vitality. Like attracts like. “Live food, live body. Dead food, dead body.”2 [ Victor Kulvinskas ] If we desire to make the change to vegetarianism or veganism but are having challenges, consciously contemplating many of the statements in this article will assist us to get enough leverage on ourselves to make the transformation quite quickly and permanently. We invite you to read and consciously consider the compelling quotes on this page and make it a point to view the DVDs Food, Inc. and Forks Over Knives. They will change your life.

A human body in no way resembles those that were born for ravenousness; it hath no hawk’s bill, no sharp talon, no roughness of teeth, no such strength of stomach or heat of digestion, as can be sufficient to convert or alter such heavy and fleshy fare. But if you will contend that you were born to an inclination to such food as you have now a mind to eat, do you then yourself kill what you would eat. But do it yourself, without the help of a choppingknife, mallet or axe, as wolves, bears, and lions do, who kill and eat at once. Rend an ox with thy teeth, worry a hog with thy mouth, tear a lamb or a hare in pieces, and fall on and eat it alive as they do. But if thou had rather stay until what thou eat is to become dead, and if thou art loath to force a soul out of its body, why then dost thou against nature eat an animate thing? There is nobody that is willing to eat even a lifeless and a dead thing even as it is; so they boil it, and roast it, and alter it by fire and medicines, as it were, changing and quenching the slaughtered gore with thousands of sweet sauces, that the palate being thereby deceived may admit of such uncouth fare. [ Plutarch (c. 46– c. 120), Greek biographer and philosopher ]

Elsewhere the paper notes that vegetarians and vegans (including athletes) ‘meet and exceed requirements’ for protein. And, to render the whole we-should-worry-about-getting-enough-proteinand-therefore-eat-meat idea even more useless, other data suggests that excess animal protein intake is linked with osteoporosis, kidney disease, calcium stones in the urinary tract, and some cancers. Despite some persistent confusion, it is clear that vegetarians and vegans tend to have more optimal protein consumption than omnivores... People care about animals. I believe that. They just don’t want to know or to pay. A fourth of all chickens have stress fractures. It’s wrong. They’re packed body to body, and can’t escape their waste, and never see the sun. Their nails grow around the bars of their cages. It’s wrong. They feel their slaughters. It’s wrong, and people know it’s wrong. They don’t have to be convinced. They just have to act differently. I’m not better than anyone, and I’m not trying to

convince people to live by my standards of what’s right. I’m trying to convince them to live by their own. [ Jonathan Safran Foer, author of Eating Animals, is an American writer from Brooklyn, New York, best known for his 2002 novel Everything Is Illuminated. ] Donald Watson, who founded The Vegan Society in 1944 and who lived a healthy, active life until passing on in 2005, maintained that dairy products, such as milk, eggs, and cheese, were every bit as cruel and exploitative of sentient animal life as was slaughtering animals for their flesh: “The unquestionable cruelty associated with the production of dairy produce has made it clear that lactovegetarianism is but a half-way house between flesh-eating and a truly humane, civilised diet, and we think, therefore, that during our life on earth we should try to evolve sufficiently to make the ‘full journey.’” He also avoided wearing leather, wool or silk and used a fork, rather than a spade in his gardening to avoid killing worms. Francione, a prominent and respected philosopher of animal rights law and ethical theory known for his criticism of animal welfare laws and regulations, his abolitionist theory of animal rights, and his promotion of veganism and nonviolence as the baseline principles of the abolitionist movement. ]

The truth is that you are responsible for what you think, because it is only at that level you can exercise choice. No Meat March–Sign Up and Veg Out! The Girls Gone Green and Vegetarians of Central Florida are inviting you to sign a 31-day pledge to be meat-free and enjoy all the wonderful benefits of filling up on healthy, nutrientdense foods. It’s an opportunity to explore questions surrounding a vegetarian lifestyle.

– The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence, which is your natural inheritance. “The course has published over 2 million copies in 20 languages.”

During the month, there will be a number of events for participants to get together and enjoy community-related activities. Participants will receive daily emails educating and supporting their commitment to No Meat March. The Girls Gone Green have developed resources to foster community, allowing participants to communicate, ask questions and get feedback. Those that pledge to be meat-free during March also get access to discounts at several veg-friendly restaurants and stores in town. No Meat March has taken place in Jacksonville for three years now, and has expanded to Orlando, Daytona Beach and Tampa starting this year. Visit www.nomeatmarch.com for details and to sign up.

Transmutation of Energy:

U N V E I L I N G O U R S E LV E S

the power within to change the conditions in our lives.

O

by Reverend E. Ann Otzelberger

ne of my favorite things to say is, “Thoughts are things.” I teach this to all students and make a point to remember it in my own life.

The power that we have within to change the conditions in our lives is closely aligned to the Natural Law of Attraction. The Universal Laws tell us we need to: 1. Know what we want and be positive. 2. Keep a spiritual attitude as our guideline. 3. Set the Law of Desire into motion with our consciousness. 4. Never doubt or waiver in our attitude. Matter never dies, it only changes form. Matter becomes energy and energy becomes matter according to its rate of vibration. “Ask and ye shall receive,” is a statement we have heard many times. It tells us to make a decision about what we need or want and it will be ours. Of course, there are some who think they have the desire, which gives them the right to sit and wait for what they want to happen. Hopefully, they will wake up and understand that when we desire something it will come about for us, but we need to apply the necessary effort to help the circumstances come about. We cannot desire or think that we want to be a physician and then sit down and wait for our degree. Limitation is placed all around us, and it is placed by us. We decide that we would like to have something but we know that it is not within our reach. We use many arguments to explain why we are not able to have what we want (our parents never made much money, the education is too far above us, etc.). We tell ourselves we are not really worthy of the position. We place these limits on ourselves, which gives us the excuse not to apply ourselves to reach our goals. If you are not receiving the things you desire, check and see if you are putting the Law of Repulsion to work with your doubts, fears, impatience and worry. See if you are placing limitations on yourself to prevent you from reaching your goals. We are always receiving and must remember the Law of Attraction. Natural law never stops to ask if we are sure of what we want. Our thoughts send out into the Universal Ether what we want. If we find our thoughts are bringing about heartaches, sickness and disharmony in our lives, we need to look at what we are thinking and keep our thoughts positive. Thoughts are things. To really use the laws to our advantage we must maintain a calm, trustful attitude. Our thoughts must remain positive and loving in all matters. This creates a positive auric emanation. Through this avenue, helpful influences from the world around us and the spirit world will be attracted to us. Living with, understanding, and being mindful of the Law of Transmutation of Energy will help us unfold the love, harmony, health, kindness, unselfishness and joy of life. Rev. E. Mystic Teachings of the Living Earth by Molly MacCartney

“blossoms, never wishing to be mountains, do not question their value in the grand scheme of life in giving their gold to hungry travelers they cause the world to fruit even long after they are gone…”

O

f all the spiritual teachings that have passed through the lips of humans, and of all the examples set by enlightened ones who have walked here, none can offer quite as much wisdom to us as our majestic planet itself. The living earth knows how to retain balance while embracing di-

vine timing without argument. A flower never questions the value of its purpose, nor does a mountain ever wish to travel the globe in order to “find itself.” By observing the simplicity of the earth’s many faces, we can learn much about coming into harmony with our presence and thriving with respect to the natural and spiritual principles that govern all life. There is little debate that our modern world is a bit out of tune with the natural earth we were born into. Reaching to regain that elusive balance, many of us are growing hungry to connect with the planet again in a personal way. How better to do that than to acknowledge and appreciate the flora that surrounds us daily? When our minds are suffering because of thoughts or events running out of control, good medicine can be found by taking a quiet walk in a natural place so we can witness the stability of our soul reflected in the profound order there.

In addition to providing a rich environment in which to relieve mental chatter, nature also invites us to exchange energy with it as a healing practice. Just as plants filter our carbon dioxide, they also know how to utilize troubling emotions that can be toxic to us. And just as we breathe the oxygen they produce, we are revitalized by their steady vibration of peace. This symbiotic system is a brilliant example of how spirit works in physical reality through an energetic language, encouraging balance throughout all forms of life. When we manage our energy in such organic ways, we can connect with each other more peacefully as well, helping us to thrive in alignment with our precious planet. Practice the exchange: Take five minutes to one hour and sit near the roots of a tree. Feel all negative or anxious energy leave you as it is pulled down into the earth. Notice as a sense of tranquility fills you up. Relish the present moment using all five senses. Breathe deeply. Let go of thoughts. Listen for messages. When the exchange is complete may you feel renewed, knowing you have the serenity to move forward on your path with ease.

teaching people around the world these new protocols that use energy as a basis for growing crops. He is working with the World Food Organization in the area of increasing crop production in developing countries. Plant cells take in information in the form of energy from the sun, earth, air and water. The seeds and plants also are affected by the farmer and other energies in the environment so a happy farmer will produce crops that are stronger, healthier and more resistant to disease.

What is Pranic Agriculture?

It is a new field of research using what we know about prana or life force energy in the development of protocols to grow more vibrant, abundant and nutritious crops. This is a very exciting time in which we live. Scientists are working globally in India, Germany, South America, Africa and other countries in this area of research. Pranically grown yams are twice as large as those grown under normal conditions. The rye grass in Germany in taller than a person. There are experimentations with fruit trees and coffee in Columbia. The current experiments are being done by pranic healers who are farming in their own countries. Monetary grants are being applied for to implement this research on a larger scale.

Cells have receptors like antennae that respond to all kinds of subtle energy input. Depending on the type of energy, the chemical composition of the plant changes so that certain chemicals are present in the plant. Energetic applications alter the chemicals produced in the chemical factory of the plant. The scientific basis of this research is taught in the Pranic Agriculture courses.

can also be thought of as chemical vibrations which convert to the creation of energy in our bodies. For example, when we eat ginger it aids in digestion. Ginger has orange prana which has a cleansing property. We are re-discovering what the ancients knew about the energetic make-up and healing properties of plants and foods. Information about color prana is taught in the Advanced Pranic Healing courses. Native and indigenous peoples know exactly which herbs and plants to avail themselves of in times of need. They are in touch with nature and work in a cooperative fashion with the nature devas and beings. The time has come for us to reembrace these techniques and learn even more as energy medicine and science becomes more popular. A Sojourn through Bhakti Yoga continued from page 39 achieve union with God, that state of being where our soul rises up and merges itself in God. In this state of being, we are aware of ourselves (the wave) and God (the Ocean) simultaneously. This is what is meant by, “Be still and know God.” It is in this state that we experience the joy and love, our true nature, the nature of God–a spark of whom (our soul) resides in our heart. This is the meaning behind the phrase “worshipping the heart flame.” The yogic path provides us with nine spiritual practices for experiencing love or devotion (bhakti) for God. We are able to experience this devotion when we meditate on Him. Whatever Name you use for God, meditate on that Form with all the love in your heart. Just as the saying, “You are what you eat,” means your body energetically becomes the vibration of the foods you give to it, likewise meditating on your Form of God enables you to energetically raise your vibration to become that upon which you meditate, taking you from the Form (Krishna) to the Formless (Absolute Spirit). Another means of creating that feeling of love and devotion for God within you is through kirtan. Kirtan is the chanting of the Name of God. Speaking (japa) and chanting (kirtan) the Names of God also energetically raise your vibration. During the Sojourn through Bhakti Yoga retreats (see ad page 39), you will have opportunities to experience both meditation and kirtan as we worship the heart flame. Another spiritual practice we will utilize throughout the weekend retreats for experiencing the Love of God is Breath of Love.™ Breath of Love™ can be thought of as a combination of meditation and pranayama. Pranayama is a Sanskrit word which means breath control, and it is one of the five principles of yoga. Because of the deep relaxation, awareness, and allowing of all that is present in our bodies to be as it is without desiring to change it or make it go away, and our conscious choosing of a continuous ever deepening inhale with an effortless exhale of the breath, we are able to move into a conscious-waking theta state—the brain state just before sleeping and just after waking—the realm between the conscious and subconscious world. By embodying a conscious-waking theta brain wave state, we can access deep and profound learning, healing and growth. We can connect to the Divine and experience the Presence of God within our bodies. Each retreat in A Sojourn through Bhakti Yoga series–from Worshipping the Heart Flame, to Diving Into the Spring of Joy, and finally Resting in the Haven of Peace–will enable you to embody deeper and deeper levels of trust in the Divine and more and more expansion in your communion with God. By the end of all three retreats, you will be a whole new Presence. You will witness the expression of your new Presence in the manifestation of your life and your relationships.

EMF Awareness by Paulo Bendall

Since

a very young age, I have always been very sensitive to my surroundings. At the age of 13, I was given 30 days to live. I constantly had health problems even though i lived a healthy lifestyle. I loved computers but they did not love me. After working on a computer for 30 minutes or so, my eyes became watery and I could no longer see the screen. I became irritable, tired, depressed, lethargic, and weak. During my research with the aim of getting well, I discovered that many people have sensitivities to electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs). I also discovered that my computer did love me, it was just that I was allergic to EMFs!

What are EMFs exactly?

Electromotive force or electromagnetic frequency refer to voltage generated by a battery or magnetic force, this according to Faraday's Law which states that a time varying magnetic field will induce an electric current. There are two types of EMFs: natural and artificial. The sun and earth emit natural EMFs which tend to be beneficial to living beings including animals and plants. We ourselves emit around 10 Hertz (Hz) just like earth which means we resonate with her. That is why we tend to feel calm, centered, more energetic, and at peace when we take a stroll on the beach. On the other hand,

artificial EMFs come from electrical lines, cell towers, radars, microwave ovens, electric devices, even those that are battery operated (cell phones, cordless phones, computers, laptops, remote controls, televisions, automobiles, even the alarm clock.) We can't see, hear, or taste electromagnetic frequencies, but some very sensitive people can feel the EMFs that constantly bombard us. The electricity moving through our homes and offices is measured at about 60 Hz. When compared to the 10 Hz, humans emit, our bodies are subjected to the effects of a huge imbalance. Studies are showing that imbalances linked to artificial EMFs include depression, weakness, lack of concentration, irritability, lethargy, spaciness, and many more. Please, please, please do your own research! (See the Bio Initiative Report, 2007 and http://heartmdinstitute.com). Do the research and take affirmative action especially with children and teens because their brains are still developing. Wi Fi in schools are banned in some countries in Europe and in Canada. Microwave ovens even contain a warning in their instructions. Some people have proven that two cell phones can cook an egg or pop popcorn! You can even unlock your car door with your remote through two concrete walls! So guess what is zapping our bodies when we use these remotes? We all love our comforts and the amazing things we can do with modern technology but it all comes with a very high price. Please become aware of this electric pollution and unplug electric devices when not in use especially at night when our bodies are in repair mode. Like my momma always told me, "Use common sense." Common sense tells me that exposing myself to anything artificial does not resonate with my natural state. Enjoy yourself grounding to Mother Earth, touching a tree, and walking barefoot for a minimum of three minutes every day. Be happy, be healthy, and be loving in a natural state. Milagros,

“Millie,” is quite remarkable. Her name means miracle in Spanish. She’s a gray Tabby with stripes and it makes her look like she’s wearing a baby-doll t-shirt. She was tiny and frail from starvation when we found her at a horse racetrack. She was nervous, otherworldly and seemed to be waiting to be put out of her misery. We finally caught her so that we could foster her briefly, but this kitten-sized six-month old had come for us. She placed her humble self at the bottom of the pecking order among our other cats. For years, she seemed unsure about her form as though memories of her celestial life were calling to her as she sorted out what to do as a cat on earth. She speaks volumes through her green eyes. In meditation she led me on a journey through the stars. Millie would climb on me or my husband and give us healing treatments using her healing paws and third eye to do energy work. She sees energy and diagnoses spots that need work. She places her third eye or paws on the spots and the results are perfect. If not my Shaman husband, I’d like her to attune me to my Reiki Mastership! I imagine revealing that I was attuned by my cat! Millie’s empathic. When I drank sugar-free Red Bull, she became very sick. Another medium confirmed it was hurting me and I felt it. I didn’t understand fully at the time that Millie manifested bladder crystals. She almost died. She wouldn’t do any healing work and was preparing to leave, probably devastated. We realized the connection between our poor diet and her health which now seems like a great big “DUH!” Once we detoxified by juicing, going vegan for a period of time, then adding back only gluten-free, dairy-free, organic, non-GMO, humane and responsible animal products such as eggs and little meat, mostly raw veggies, fruits and nuts, small amounts of grain, we dropped our health issues and so did Millie. Millie, now seven years old, is back and better than normal. She has become a full figured, normal weight cat and has gotten straight back to her healing work. Her treatments were a single prescription of Chinese herbs (dissolving 50% of her bladder crystals), acupuncture, Reiki and our detoxification. We also detoxified all food and water for the animals. We got rid of all known chemicals in our home. This cured Millie and the rest of us.

The Truth About the Air We Breathe

ter we are talking about. You can monitor the air from space from a group of satellites that measure aerosol optical thickness on the web. Visit http://www. ospo.noaa.gov/Products/atmosphere/aerosol.html.

by Albert Nuñez, DVM

Fuel additives to jet fuel are probably contributing to the air pollution problem. Just look up at the clouds that disperse and dissipate behind most jets and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that what goes up must come down. Add rocket fuel to the mix and it gets complicated. We are up to 1500 rocket launches per year. Each rocket candle that goes up poisons the air further measured in tons of toxins per launch.

Global air patterns move giant clouds of pollution in toxic bands around the globe. What used to be rivers of clean air are now rivers of high and low weight particulate matter (2.6-10µm1 and 0-2.5µm). These particles present a mixed soup of naturally occurring dust and pollens mixed with pollutions of various kinds. Heavy metals and sometimes radioactive substances may be found in this toxic air in varying concentrations dependent on weather, solar events and other contributing factors. (This level has increased dramatically in the last 30 years). Dust itself can carry disease because virus, bacteria, and fungi can hide in the cracks of some dust and survive trips aloft from, for example, Africa or Mongolia to the Americas. NASA has been saying it for years. See All of the World’s a Stage for Dust, Mobile Homes for Microbes-NASA, Desert Dust Kills Florida Fish NASA, http:// earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Features/Coral/ coral4.php.

If you breathe in dusty air contaminated with <2.5µm and >2.5µm particulate matter that is laden with aluminum oxide and other heavy metals then you may be more apt to experience respiratory disease after exposure to this toxic mix. In this model for respiratory disease: • • •

When I was a boy I remember very blue sky’s more often than I see now. Today’s children live under a hazy, blue sky of toxic fog that chokes us as it drops down at night when the air cools. (See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XBwjQsOEeg). The toxic air layer rises aloft mid-morning with the sun as this air heats only to drop again the next evening at dusk.

If you land in the emergency room and culture the different patients, you will culture different secondary infectious organisms. The primary common denominator, the irritating air, is never considered. Increased levels of heavy metals in the air have been linked to heart attacks in humans. The heavy metal can cause vasoconstriction of heart vessels heading patients with marginal function towards heart attacks. In humans and animals, signs of chronic low-dose exposure are linked to anxiety, depression and a whole slew of chronic conditions.

Much of the dust has higher concentrations of aluminum oxide, mercury, chromium, copper, nickel, and selenium. Hair samples from multiple animals in our area show a similar signature heavy metal toxicity panel that seems to point to a low level aerosol exposure. There is a direct correlation between high dust/wind/rain events and respiratory disease in our area of Orlando.

We have been using a hair test for heavy metals and have found the same pattern repeated over and over again in patients with cancer, autoimmune disease, allergies, endocrine dysfunction (diabetes, thyroid,

At dusk you can see a hazy brown layer on the horizon that is the very particulate mat1 Micrometer; a unit of length derived by the International System of Units equalling 1×10−6 of a meter or one millionth of a meter.

The dust you breathe in goes down to the alveoli and irritates the local area. The heavy metals in the dust decrease local immunity. Any bacteria, fungi, or viruses in the dust inoculate the alveoli and has an improved chance of causing infection in the immune suppressed environment.

Cushing’s disease2) and neurological disorders. So the bad news is that the environment is polluted and man, animal and plants are affected. After testing our patients, we found a prominent heavy metal toxicity pattern particularly to aluminum, nickel, mercury, chromium and copper, and we searched for practical solutions in the face of pollution that just doesn’t stop. Our search led us to the Zeolite mineral (Clinoptilolite) as a practical, solution. This naturally occurring negatively charged caution trap molecule is capable of helping the body rid itself of heavy metal toxins. The Zeolite powder is a clay-like substance that is ingested two times per day in animals. Our current mode of therapy is to conventionally and alternatively treat the primary disease while we help to chelate the body’s heavy metal burden down to a manageable level and then to continue a maintenance dose to mitigate the continuous recontamination problem. A good source for hair testing is Analytical Research Labs in Arizona. This Zeolite (Clinoptilolite) solution is the most practical we have found to-date. As for the causes and the political will to stop the current crisis all I can offer is bandaids and prayers. All flora and fauna of the planet pray that the parasites of our civilization do not kill its host. I pray our leaders openly embrace alternative and radiant energy sources to power our civilization as the current petrochemical model is simply unsustainable. THE UNSEEN

There Is No Death... Your Loved Ones Live BY VICTOR P. VOGENITZ

John Beattie in Séance Bristol, England 1872

I have been studying physical phenomena mediumship in Cassadaga and have sat in or directed séance since I was 16 years old. Most people ask me, “What really happens in a Séance?” Most Séances are not the stereotype you have seen on television or in the movies. Yes, they do take place in a dark or dimly lit room. The reason for that is to help build and retain the spiritual energies. Some people worry if the spirits are going to try to ‘get’ or hurt them. In the 40 years that I have been doing séances I have never seen any negative energies harm anyone. We always set up a protective field around us with prayer and the Pure White Light of God’s Love and Protection. That prevents any negative or lower astral energies from even entering the room. Please remember who we are trying to reach–your loved ones. Would someone who loved you so dearly in life suddenly want to harm you just because they departed this plane of existence? The spiritual essence of a person retains the personality traits they had while they were here with us on earth. If Grandma was cranky and short while she was alive, she may still be a little sharp when she comes through. If Dad had a great sense of humor and loved a good practical joke, he still does. Now you get the idea. The most common type of physical phenomena that takes place during Séance is known as Table Tipping. We communicate through the movement of a table. The table may lean or move towards you for a yes answer and away from you for a no. It may slide very close to you. We call that a “Hug.” It is hard to explain but the table has a language of its own. You may see little sparkles of spirit lights or even a mist or fog of sorts. You may hear raps or taps in the table. Sometimes the spirits may tap once for yes and twice for no. What I would ask you to do is to invite the loved ones you wish to reach to come to the Séance you attend. Spend the time between now and the Séance thinking about them. Remember all the love, warmth, and good times you shared. Talk to them as if they were there with you, because they are. Believe me when I say that they are just as eager to communicate with you as you are with them. The people we attempt to reach are your loved loves. They neither wish to frighten nor upset you. They will step away the moment they feel that their presence is more than you can handle. The one thing that I have learned in my 40 years of Séance is that they are positive and healing in nature. Nothing is more healing than to know that our loved ones survive. To know that forgiveness for old hurts or injuries is asked for and given by both sides is a wonder to behold. creating our future in the now .............

In

In native and traditional cultures throughout time and around the world, all aspects of nature, of the earth, sea and sky have been and are considered significant–plants and animals, rocks and trees, mountains and rivers. All life is seen as interconnected and every part or aspect of nature can assist us in attuning more fully to the spirit that moves in all things. Grandmother Moon, called Nisa (pronounced Nee-sa), is the North American native peoples’ guide over the course of a year through all four seasons and thirteen full moons. The lunar calendar marks the daily rhythms of life– planting and harvest, menstruation or moontime, fertility and birth. The first calendar used by native peoples was the turtle’s shell. The thirteen segments on the shell record the thirteen moons. The frame around the segments on the shell signifies the unifying Circle of Life, Sacred Hoop or Medicine Wheel and reminds us of the interconnectedness and continuous flow of all life, the moon’s monthly journey around the earth, the earth’s yearly journey through the seasons and each person’s life journey emerging from the world of spirit at birth and returning to the spirit world at death. Flora and fauna are gifts from the earth to assist us on our journey. Tobacco, considered a sacred plant, can be offered to the earth as a token of gratitude or when smoked in a ceremonial manner, the smoke carries our prayers to Great Spirit. When sage is burned, it cleanses the energy field surrounding us and clears negativity from our home and environment, while burning sweet grass brings in positive energy. Each creature–insect, bird, reptile, animal–has a special place in the web of life and also has a message, insight or bit of wisdom to offer, if we pay attention. Animal symbols are utilized in many places in our own culture. The majestic eagle is a symbol for power and freedom for our country. Many sports teams with animal names draw upon the animal’s characteristics to fortify their identity. What creature do you have an affinity for or feel a strong connection to? Notice if a particular creature makes their presence known to you in an obvious or frequent manner. What are they telling you about your situation or about how to live more in harmony on the earth or with others? Explore how the creature lives, interacts in community and adapts to its environment. They may be offering you an important teaching. To further explore the spiritual and magical powers of creatures and animal totems, check out the work of Ted Andrews, including Animal-Speak and AnimalWise, The Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams and Messages From Your Animal Spirit Guides by Steven D. Farmer. May the creatures assist you with their messages and presence in your life. ARIES (March 19-April 19) Antelope bounds into your life calling you to action. Take care of business! Are you happy? Because we are trained to put on our best face, many of us will say, “Sure. Of course!” However, privately there is another reality and another more honest truth. In the last two years in my practice, I have observed a dramatic rise in depression, anxiety, attention deficit, and general mood disorders, but seeing all this suffering has not made me feel better about my life. It has made me want to share solutions though. I have observed young kids without concentration skills and young beautiful ‘tweens’ cutting themselves. These are more global problems than we admit. And it’s even worse in the adult population.

Are You Happy? by Ramah Wagner, D. C., Contributing Health Editor Electro Meridian Imaging.™ Even constant low-grade stress dampens the brain chemicals. Once these chemicals get low or the precursors feeding them get ‘burned out,’ lack of sleep, overwrought emotions, and fits of anger or anxiety result and it becomes nearly impossible to feel good and be happy.

Chiropractors study and treat the brain and nervous system. The brain is the key to depression and anxiety. In my postgraduate work I attained a doctorate in clinical counseling. I have spent thousands of hours counseling with patients and have found these conditions can often be the result of a redundant thought pattern. For example, when we keep re-telling ourselves the same story, this re-stimulates our body’s physiology to re-experience associated traumas and stressors. Eventually, we are so desperate to get rid of depression we end up just taking the anti-depressant that has been handed to us. This begins a bad cycle. Most who start on anti-depressants are not getting off of anti-depressants, ever. Instead, their dosages are strengthened and their medications increase as the years pass.

Achieving this state begins with our diet and lifestyle. Many who are anxious, depressed, and reactive lack good nutrition for a long period of time. We often think to be skinny is attractive but it isn’t if you are skimping on body fuel to achieve it. Even many overweight people are starving for good nutrient-rich foods. Tell this to a really depressed and hopeless soul and they nod and say, “I know. I should take better care of myself.” Then they go home to eat whatever is there. Since they don’t feel well they are unable to correlate lack of nutrition to their depression issues and in their stress cannot see that this can turn around.

There is a better way to deal with anxiety and depression. First we need to know the truth. The whole body is a chemical and electric machine, the brain being especially so. The right precursors and amino acids must exist to keep the brain able to produce the neuro-transmitters that make us feel happy. I have seen that if a person is constantly undergoing major life changes such as loss of a job, divorce, sickness, death, etc., they show lower brain chemistry neuro-transmitters than normal on biofeedback and

In our office, we do not leave them empty handed. We send them home with nutriceutical supplements that will help, all very affordable and very available to begin the healing. These provide precursors to missing brain chemicals and they help return neurotransmitters to normal levels. The brain is like a gas tank. Different circumstances burn more fuel than others. No matter what our genetics are, if •

we are functioning on a full tank, we can handle the stress and tackle the problem without much issue. We are able to understand, process, and work through life events. Once we drop below half a tank, so to speak, especially if we have a sensitive energetic system, it becomes difficult to overcome the negative cycle. If we begin becoming frequently angry, paranoid or cynical, we can assume our tank is far less than full. Are you happy? If not, we would start with getting your energetic system checked. If your brain and nervous system are in a negative loop then it is key to reset them to achieve happiness. To simply understand that we are often depleted and need the proper chemistry to fire off new synaptic patterns is the key to feeling good. If you or a loved one is suffering we may not be your answer, but isn’t it time to try? Call our office at 352-589-5443 for a consult with one of our doctors. We know how to help you find the answers you are looking for through natural health. Ramah Wagner, D. C. is a third generation alternative health doctor. LOVE OUR MOTHER

The 8th annual Central Florida Earth Day (CFED) will be held on Saturday, April 20 from 10:00 am to 6:00 p.m. at beautiful Lake Eola Park (east side) in downtown Orlando. CFED is organized by Vegetarians of Central Florida (VegCF) and is intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. CFED is the largest and most prestigious Earth Day event in Central Florida. There will be other Earth Week activities leading up to the festival. CFED will feature speakers, presentations including food preparation demonstrations, kids activities, environmental education, humane education, animal haven, artist corner, live music and entertainment, restaurant booths, 100+ eco-friendly vendors, and much more! Also featured is Ibex Puppetry’s Endangered Species Parade; Ibex will host a musical garden, crafts section, and learning opportunities. Admission is FREE.

Did you know?… The first Earth Day took place in 1970, rallying 20 million Americans from all walks of life. It was organized by Senator Gaylord Nelson, who witnessed the terrible effects of an oil spill off California’s coast. This movement, inspired by the energy of the anti-war movement, led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency, the Endangered Species Act, and several other important defenses for our Earth (Source: www.earthday.org). The first Central Florida Earth Day organized by VegCF took place at Lake Lily in 2006, then Dandelion Communitea Café hosted the next two years. The event has been at Lake Eola for five years now—it gets bigger and better every year! The goals of the event are to: support conservation, recycling and organic farming; reduce pollution and energy consumption; help endangered and rescue animals; protect our natural resources; promote a plant-based diet; and empower people to make positive changes in the way we eat and live. We invite our community to join us in learning about the issues and how we can each play our part in solving these issues—

A N I M A L G AT E W AY

From Rags to Riches BY REV. TIMOTHY YERO I did not have a very happy beginning. I am adopted but happily so, so you need not feel sorry for me. Before I was adopted I was hungry all the time and not much attention was given to me. I used to feel like just running away, and I did, several times. The last time I fled, I got caught and was sent to an awful place for what seemed a lifetime. I guess I could have gone over the edge at that point but I figured I would prosper more by just trying to be nice to everyone and make the best of it. It paid off. One day, one of the nicest ladies I ever met came by. We walked together and talked a lot and she made me feel much better. I grew very fond of her because she came back several times to visit me. One day she took me for a ride in her car! I got to sit up front so I could see the sights. We rode for awhile until we came to a really cool looking place with lots of property. When I got out, I was greeted by two others, a guy and a girl who were around my age. They looked like they could be related. When we went inside the house, it was so much nicer than the hell-hole I had just come from and I felt much better. My two new friends made me feel right at home and I got to spend the night there. I played a lot and ate a great tasting full dinner with no one trying to steal it from me. Man, what a difference! I prayed all night that I could stay there and not go back to where I came from and as time went by I came to real-

ize–YES! This was my new home! The nice lady and her man treated me very kindly and lovingly. They called me ‘beautiful’ and I liked that a lot. I learned that the other two like me would officially become my new brother and sister and I was ecstatic. They were adopted too! They both had lived in similar terrible places like me before they came to this great house. My new brother even had to survive kidney failure and almost died before he came to this house. But now, man! Can he run and play–practically all day! Following a dreadful and dismal beginning I am now living a wonderful life. I get full run of the home and the yard. I feel really secure, eat lots of snacks and play just about all day with my brother and sister. Life is good and I plan on making every minute count.

Most people feel they are owed restitution for wrongs done to them. We seldom see our part in wrongful situations. We strut around like arrogant peacocks offering flagrant opinions and ideas about life and what other people have done to us. Yes, sometimes our opinions are right, but if we would set our opinions aside and by Diane J. Ackerman try walking in the shoes of another we would likely see a completely different picture.

L I S T EN = S I L ENT

We fail to wholly communicate with each other because we don’t really want to! It is so much easier to stay in our comfort zone than to venture past or through unfamiliar territory. What would our world would be like if we didn’t have those who have adventured and explored the realm of honest communication? We might be experiencing a world made up of nothing but bubble people all bouncing around in their own opinions. We may be those bubble people. We may be brick wall people who don’t listen to anything but our own opinions. How often have we encountered an unlistening brick wall in other people with whom we are trying to communicate? Both sides in a disagreement often have the same complaint. Neither side feels they have the patience or the time to listen. We go through life so busy looking for trip wires that we don’t pay attention to relationship traps. This condition is not exclusive to parent-child, spousal relationships or relationships among friends. It exists everywhere including our workplaces, governments and churches. History, both personal and societal, should be something we learn from and not repeat. The next time we have a difference of opinion with another, try sitting on the other side of the table and just LISTEN. And in order to listen, we have to be SILENT. How interesting it is that both words contain all the same letters! Diane Ackerman is author of The Gathering, a book of poems addressing life’s addictions, co-dependencies and obsessions. Her workbook on anger management, Shut the Duck Up, has been used with great success at The Anthony House, a homeless shelter formerly housed in Zellwood, Florida. Please see ad this page. What’s for dinner?–a phrase heard millions of times every day but most Americans don’t really know what is on their plate because GMOs2 (Genetically Modified Organisms) and irradiated foods are not labeled. A GMO is the result of a laboratory process where genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially forced into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal. The foreign genes may come from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals or even humans. Because this involves the transfer of genes, GMOs are also known as ‘transgenic’ organisms. This process may be called either Genetic Engineering (GE) or Genetic Modification (GM). They are in our food, pharmaceuticals and vaccines.

FDA scientists have repeatedly warned that GM foods can create unpredictable,

Products derived from the crops listed above include oils from all four, soy protein, soy lecithin, cornstarch, corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup, among others. There are also many invisible ingredients derived from GM crops that are not obviously from corn or soy. You can make a difference. If only 5% of food buying consumers said NO to GMOs and processed foods, the manufacturers would stop adding them to what you eat. Many countries like France have banned GMOs. Most others require labeling. Ask your grocer to stop selling unlabeled genetically engineered and factory-farmed foods or 1 foods that have been irradiated. Demand labeling of products. Contact your legislators today. Tomorrow may be too late.

Beef, Pork? Or How About Genetically Modified Cowpig?

Monsanto, the world leader in manufacturing GMO seeds, engineered Roundup-ready plants for herbicide tolerance so the weed killer could be sprayed directly on the crop without killing it. Their purpose–to sell more Roundup. Now farmers have to buy the seeds every year. They can’t save or develop the seeds as they have done for hundreds of years. Nearby farmers whose fields were contaminated by the wind carrying GMO pollen to their crops were sued and lost their farms to Monsanto for unauthorized possession of patented seed.

GMO animals have entered our food chain. You may remember the Associated Press 2008 story in the Gainesville Sun reporting, “‘Tainted pork from genetically altered pigs stolen from the University of Florida showed up in sausage served at a funeral in High Springs,’ university police said. ‘The stolen pigs were genetically engineered to develop a disorder similar to diabetic blindness in humans. University officials do not know what effect, if any, the treated meat could have on people who eat it.”

hard to detect side-effects, including allergies, toxins, new diseases, and nutritional problems. They urged long-term safety studies but were ignored. The current head of our FDA is the former attorney and CEO for Monsanto. At the present time, commercialized GM crops in the U.S. include soy (91%), cotton (88%), canola (88%), corn (85%), sugar beets (90%), Hawaiian papaya (more than 50%), zucchini and yellow squash (small amount), and tobacco (Quest brand).

1 Cowpig: To date, there is no hard evidence for the existence of a cow-pig. Genetic engineering, also called genetic modification, is the human manipulation of an organism’s genetic material but does not yet include traditional animal and plant breeding or mutagenesis. 2 Genetically Modified Organism: An organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques.

Hypnosis– It’s a Natural State of Mind by Katie Wayne, MHt I often need to reassure potential clients that hypnosis is not an unnatural state of “mind control.” Actually, it is as natural to any sentient being as breathing. Have you ever observed a heron perched on one spindly leg, gazing intently into the still water of a marsh? He is completely relaxed, yet alert to the slightest movement of shiny fish scales. Anyone lucky enough to share their home with a pampered feline has seen their pet stretched out on the window sill, seemingly dozing, but with tail tip twitching at every sparrow hopping outside. We happen to live with a small group of pugs. Periodically, they go into a trance state, and will sit for a long period of time, gazing into the middle distance, however, say the word treat, and they are up and wagging, ready for action.

We humans have the same ability. We can become so immersed in a good book, a movie, or a daydream that our surroundings fade completely into the background. This state of relaxed awareness is exactly what we experience in hypnosis. The normal beta state of our brain waves move into the alpha–a heightened, yet relaxed frame of mind. In deep meditative states, we move into theta waves and can experience visionary moments of transcendence. Hypnosis with a trained practitioner is a wonderfully relaxing way to reach a state of heightened awareness in which the subconscious mind is able to accept positive suggestions. Long existing negative habits such as procrastination, unhealthy food choices, or lack of exercise can be changed while in the hypnotic state much more effectively than by will power alone. Be sure, though, that you are truly ready for these changes before you consult a hypnotherapist. Also know that you cannot do it at the behest of a loved one. Only you can make these changes, and these changes can only be for yourself. The joy your loved ones will feel is a happy by-product of the decision that you have made, not that they have made for you. So if you are truly ready, take a cue from the natural world, and allow your ego and conscious mind to take a break. The best things happen in an alpha state of mind.

Each Letter Stands for Something by Will Gifford An assisted living facility (ALF) may look like a castle or a fancy hotel, but what do looks do for one’s well-being? At TLC Family Care Home, we emphasize care for our five residents. We are not a fancy mansion on a hilltop; we are a home for just five residents. These five fine folks are our family. Other family members include Penny and Charlie. Both are nurse and they helped TLC get started. TLC’s other family members include Jessica, a super helpful young lady who cares for all residents in a special way all her own. Then there’s Ronnie who beautifies the TLC home with his gardening and handyman skills. And finally, there are Linda and Will. Linda gave up her job at the hospital to work with Will at TLC. Linda represents the ‘L’ in TLC–Love. She makes sure all the ‘i’s are dotted and ‘t’s are crossed so that TLC can remain discrepancy-free in our state inspections. Will, a retired licensed massage therapist, represents the ‘T’ in TLC–Touch. Whether it’s a pat on the back, a hug, or a foot massage, all residents feel Will’s touch. The most important part of the TLC name is C for Comfort which is TLC’s main concern. When we ask our residents, “How are you today?,” we take the answer to that question seriously. If the answer is “Okay,” that’s not good enough. Our staff will ask, “What’s the matter?” or “What’s wrong?” and then give special attention to that person to help him or her feel great. TLC stands for what we do, and not how pretty we look. Our ratio of staff to residents–one to three staff persons for five residents or less–is a big part of assuring that your loved one is getting the care and attention she needs and deserves. Sit in the Light ...

and behold the truth Recently, I read Spiritual Liberation by Michael Bernard Beckwith who was a featured teacher in the film, The Secret. In his book Rev. Beckwith lists seven key practices for obtaining success in your professional and personal life. In fact, these practices are so important that he teaches them to everyone who joins his staff at Agape International Spiritual Center in California. These are practices to follow in our physical world. Drink fresh pure water, eat nutritional whole food, exercise, detoxify your body regularly, sit in the sun for 20 minutes a day, get adequate rest, and implant into your mind that you live in a friendly universe. There is also a spiritual component to the seven practices. You need to drink from the well of the living water of spiritual renewal, ingest divine ideas of love, joy, and peace from the heavenly realm, exercise your mind by following your spiritual practices of prayer and meditation, detoxify your life by not holding on to negative thoughts or people, take into your mind, body, and spirit the light of the living God and rest knowing that the Universe is fully supporting you in your endeavors and is cheering you onward. Determining that these practices could be of benefit to my mind, body, and spirit I ventured outside to sit in the sunlight and follow the practice of meditation. Be-

ing a busy person I thought it was a good way to practice two things at one sitting to save time, however when I got outside and felt the sunshine on my shoulders (capturing that great John Denver song), it immediately made me feel happy and high. How blessed, I thought, that we live in the Sunshine State and are able to have sunlight almost every day of the year. Then I looked around and noticed the live oak trees dripping with Spanish moss. Again, I thought how blessed we are to have such beautiful trees in Florida. What a gift trees are to humans as they give off oxygen for us to breathe and take in our waste product of carbon dioxide. It made me realize that we truly are one with trees. Then I noticed the flowers and thought how fortunate we are to have beautiful flora gracing our world providing beauty for our eyes and our souls. The 20 minutes zipped by so quickly! The time in nature provided me with spiritual renewal beyond belief. It gave me a deeper appreciation for our beautiful world and all of God’s gifts that are freely given. It made me realize that we live an abundant loving world. The Universe is truly there to cheer us onward. All we need to do is to sit in the light and behold the truth. Rev. Mary Blocher was ordained as a Unity Minister in 2005. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana University. Prior to entering the ministry, she was a special education teacher for 24 years. Nine of those 24 years she lived and taught on the Navajo Reservation where she learned first-hand the traditions, customs, and spirituality of Native Americans. or lived in, the theme “women don’t support me” was played again and again. “Hey!” I thought. “It must be MY stuff! It’s happening everywhere I go. It must be ME!” It was an eye-opener moment for me. It was the first time that I took responsibility for what I was creating in my life. Sati gave me an affirmation of “Women support me. Women are there for me.” A couple of months later, I started up an apprenticeship program for people who were interested in the healing arts. Many women who joined the group became my sisters. I am still in contact with several women from the group after twenty years. Yes, women do support me and I support them.

Owning Our Lives by Ojela Frank

“It’s all Your fault!” I remember saying those words when I was 29 years old. It was my private conversation with God as I angrily stood alone in a wooded forest. Yes, it was all God’s fault. I blamed Him for all the unhappiness in my life. I was going on 30 and I had nothing to show for it. No family and children. No job. No place of my own to call home. I was hiding from a tenth anniversary of my high school graduating class. High school life had also been a struggle for me. So, there I was taking it all out on God. Of course, it was His fault. My life was messed up and I knew it. Why hadn’t He made my life easier? Why was my life such a struggle? Why was I always unhappy and miserable? Things must have been really piling up for me, having to take a walk in the woods, and scream! I hated my life. I hated myself. I hated others who had a happy family life or who had successful careers. I felt at a loss–big time. All I could see was what was wrong with my life. There I was again…feeling alone and abandoned. Was I the only one who had said, “God, why have you forsaken me?” No. My life did not come with an instruction manual. Some people were happy and blessed while others were miserable or so it seemed. This puzzled me. “Physician, heal thyself.” Those were smart words spoken by Jesus. What was the apostle Luke doing in his life that Jesus was inspired to tell him that? Yes, healing begins with self. It took me 37 years to wake up to the fact that I create my own reality. I became aware of that concept during ten sessions of rebirthing. Sati, my rebirther, would listen as I shared what came into my awareness during the sessions. Sometimes we would discuss what I was working on emotionally in my life. One week it was about women. Women had not been there for me and this was a common theme in my life. Women were not there for me: my mother, some baby-sitters when I was a child, neighbors and some girlfriends. Some women treated me that way when I lived in New England, Colorado, Pennsylvania and also in New York. Then, a light switch went on in my brain. I woke up to the idea that almost every place I had visited

Once I understood the concept that life involves self-creation, I took responsibility for all that I created and attracted to me. Conscious processing is looking at daily teachings. Jesus shared, “Give us this day our daily bread.” I interpret that as, “Give us this day our daily teachings so we can learn, explore and grow.” Our lessons are in every breathing moment. They come to us as thoughts, understanding, insights, dreams, explorations and aha! moments. They relate to our relationships with self, family and community. We explore our thoughts and feelings when something gets activated within us. We gain insights about our dreams, our life’s path and as we understand ourselves, we gain a deeper understanding of human nature. Thoughts are energy. What we think about influences the life we co-create with the Divine. If you find yourself experiencing a difficult situation, just remember that the way out is with a higher thought. “What can I learn from this?” “How can I make it better?” “How do I choose to respond?” “Do I want to go through life kicking and screaming?” No. I’ve done that and it just wastes time without any personal growth. Higher thinking helps us to resonate at a higher frequency. We are here to GROW. It is one of the main reasons we came as spiritual beings to experience a physical expression. We are here to embrace life and live it fullheartedly moment-by-moment. Rev. Ojela Frank, MSC, LMT has been active in the healing arts for more than forty years. She inspires thousands through sessions, seminars and her books. Ojela is founder of Aumakhua-Ki™ Healing and the Director of Initiation Healing® Programs for Enlightenment. Gaze around your yard and you may find this stellar herb shining up at you. Stellaria media– Chickweed–is a staple in herbal medicine cabinets, and a delicate, low-growing weed in most Florida yards. An excellent tonic for the lymphatic and respiratory system as well as skin issues and weight loss, this “starry” herb shines in our late winter gardens and welcomes spring!

This beautiful, delicate plant is one of my favorites. I tend to eat it right from the ground, however this herb can be used in a variety of ways. Full of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium, and rich in Vitamins A, B and C, it provides an excellent boost to your daily nutrient intake. Brew it as a tisane1 (tea), include it among your salad greens, or get creative and substitute it for basil in your favorite pesto recipe (see column 2). It serves us best when consumed daily and is far superior as a fresh herb! Stellaria media has a short-lived season here in hot Florida, but

its cousin from the Caribbean, Tropical Chickweed Pesto Chickweed (Drycloves of garlic maria cordata) is •(I2use more because I love garlic) found in abundance • a handful of pine nuts most months of the (or sunflower seeds) • dash of salt year. We can identify • as much chickweed as you want this plant by its dis- • parmesan cheese (optional) • olive oil tinct yet tiny star-like (Amounts vary according to consistency flower and by a small desired.) Blend and serve over pasta or line of hair that grows use it as a dip. ENJOY! along its stem on a single side. It usually grows in winter beds, so look in your garden and you might find a surprise that you never knew was there!

Often found near Chickweed, this herb might jump out and grab you. Cleavers have many colorful names, some of which include Goosegrass, Stickywillie and Catchweed. The last two names are significant when you consider that fresh Cleavers are fuzzy and have a tendency to stick to fabric. Cleavers are a mild, safe diuretic that both tone and soothe the urinary tract and kidneys. I have seen this herb used in many formulas for urinary/kidney stones.

Cleavers also stimulates the lymphatic system. Since it helps carry out wastes through the urine, it has been known to also be used for skin and blood disorders.

The fruit is an adhesive burr that clings to animals so its seed may be spread.

Note the angular stem.

Hooked barbs on Cleavers are used to climb over substrate.

So keep your eyes open when you go looking for Chickweed as you may find Cleavers at your feet, maybe sticking to them! _______________ 1 Tisane is an herbal tea, consumed especially for its medicinal properties.

LeAnn has been practicing herbalism for most of her life and has a practice in Gainesville where she offers her Rooted Remedies to the locals at farmer’s markets. She also works as a licensed massage therapist and serves as Admissions Director at The Florida School of Massage in Gainesville.

RECONNECTIVE HEALING IS THE VANGUARD IN HUMAN EVOLUTIONARY ADVANCEMENT by Dr. Eric Pearl, World’s Leading Authority on Reconnective Healing You and I are standing on the precipice of the next level of human evolution. This is a very exciting time where we are accessing something that has always existed in the universe–but not existed for us before. It’s the perfect intelligence of the universe telling the body how to heal. This remarkable new form of scientifically measurable Reconnective Healing is far more than just energy healing. Instead it involves engaging with a more comprehensive spectrum of healing composed of energy, light and information that often returns the body to perfect health and balance. Interaction with these frequencies results in oftentimes permanent healings from physical illness, dis-ease and emotional trauma, including recoveries from cancers, epilepsy, birth disfigurements, arthritis and more. How this extraordinary work came to be discovered is still astonishing to me–as it may sound to you. I had one of the largest chiropractic practices in Los Angeles. But one Monday when I came in to my office, seven of my patients independently of each other told me they could feel my hands before I touched them. I could see tiny little muscles in their face move involuntarily, and then their fingers or feet move when I moved my hands around them. This was just the beginning. People who hadn’t walked in years got up off the table. Others who had serious diseases reported them gone in a matter of a few sessions. And because this discovery was so important, I devoted my life to teaching it to others around the world. Nearly 70,000 people have now learned Reconnective Healing worldwide. Anyone can learn to access these energies once you interact with them. Reconnective Healing is not something we do. It’s something we allow and help facilitate. It works by itself, as well as greatly expands the results of the modalities that today’s healing and healthcare practitioners are already using. We can each be the catalyst for other’s healings and our own. What can be better than that? Reconnective Healing allows us to more fully receive the universe’s gifts because it allows us to fully reconnect to who we are. And as we reconnect with the truth of who and what we are, we shine as the light that we are, we illuminate our own lives and we illuminate the lives of others. And as this work spreads, we raise the health, consciousness and vibration of everyone on the planet and, therefore, of the planet itself. All we have to do is open up and experience it and share it. Dr. Eric Pearl returns to Miami this May. Please refer to ad page 4.

Dr. Oz Reconnective Healing Demonstration Improves Women’s Mobility Dr. Eric Pearl said his Reconnective Healing therapy is an energy form of treating patients that has been beneficial to many people he has treated. While some are still very skeptical of this form of alternative medicine, Dr. Oz wants to learn more about it so he invited an audience member who had never met Dr. Pearl to experience his form of energy healing for the limited mobility in her arms and shoulders. Dr. Oz believes that energy healing is very beneficial for patients who need help with minor health issues and to get through stressful situations. Marti told Dr. Oz that she has suffered with her discomfort and pain for more than decade, but Dr. Pearl told them that he could heal her in five minutes. He could not 100% guarantee anything, just like in traditional medicine, but he said it was possible. Dr. Oz was admittedly flabbergasted at what he witnessed. After just a few minutes of gentle therapy, Marti explained that she was feeling warmth in her shoulder that used to be very painful for her, but she was not in any pain as she lifted her arms all the way over her head and touched her fingers together.

Dr. Oz: Learning Reconnective Healing

Dr. Eric Pearl not only treats patients with his energy healing method, but he also teaches others how they can do it for themselves. Dr. Oz asked him to show his audience how they could balance their body’s energy. Eric said it can be done in two easy steps and he showed Dr. Oz how it is done. Mercury Amalgams Reprinted with permission from the book Mercury-Free by James E. Hardy, DMD As I see it, mercury amalgams1 cause four major problems: • They release chemically toxic mercury. • They release immunologically toxic mercury. • They create electrical and magnetic disturbances. • They pollute our environment and lower our quality of life. Mercury is the master element of disguise. It has no smell. It has no taste. It can enter the body as a vapor, a liquid or a solid. Once inside, it can change from one form to another. Because mercury is an element, it cannot be broken down. Mercury, once released, is extremely difficult to contain. Although mercury atoms are smaller than microscopes can see, inside the body they can create a universe of trouble. If mercury is the master of disguise, then amalgam fillings are the stage on which it acts and your body is the captive audience for its trickery and deception.

Right now the demand for mercury amalgam keeps it the world’s most used dental material. The consumer, by being unaware and accepting amalgam silently, feeds that demand. However, if the consumer decides against using such an antiquated toxic material, the demand will evaporate like water on a hot griddle. The four problems created by amalgam will simply go away when amalgam goes away. And, inside the body, mercury’s universe of trouble will cease to exist. “Every revolution was first a thought in one man’s mind and when the same thought occurs to another man, it is the key to that era. Every reform was once a private opinion and when it shall be a private opinion again, it will solve the problem of the age.” [ Ralph Waldo Emerson ]

Hundreds of scientific articles attest to mercury’s detrimental effects on virtually every system in the human body. Dental amalgam allows the 24-hour release of mercury into the body. The amount each amalgam releases may be small, but no one knows for certain at what level mercury may cause problems for any individual. We all have differing thresholds and abilities to withstand chemical, immunological and electrical insults. Every amalgam also has its own electrical, magnetic and antenna characteristics. These may interfere with critical communication inside the human body, between human beings and between people and the environment. Examples of electrical interference symptoms included receiving radio stations on fillings, disturbances in hearing and personality changes. In the U.S., we have sick houses, sick schools and sick buildings. We have processed foods containing a variety of chemical additives. We have mercury in our vaccinations for infants and children. We have mercury in 100 million people’s fillings. And we have one of the highest violent crime rates on earth. We have stopped the use of the pesticide DDT. We can often clean up the sick buildings and the chemicals in food. We have stopped the use of the mercury-containing product Mercurochrome. And we can stop the use of mercury in vaccinations and dental fillings. These are not the only answers to violence, sickness and mental health problems, but they may be pieces of the puzzle. Let’s put them in place. 1 The common silver dental filling called amalgam is composed of approximately 50-70% mercury, 20% silver, the balance other metals such as copper or tin.

We are the power that creates history. Our opinions matter and are what ultimately decide issues. So, I believe it is important and necessary to express opinion. It is time to make a decision about the continued use of mercury. George Washington had an opinion as to how this country could be created: for the people, by the people. I am of the opinion that we, the people, still have tremendous clout. We can make the dental profession change. We hold the power in our decisions. When we, as patients, refuse to accept mercury amalgam, dentists will use the superior filling material, composites. Composites have already been proven to be safer, stronger and more attractive than amalgam, without the mercury. James E. Hardy, DMD, graduated in 1982 from Washington University School of Dental Medicine. He has had a mercury-free practice since his first patient and has given close to 200 lectures on mercury-free, health-centered dentistry both nationally and internationally. He is the author of the book, Mercury Free, and has assisted in the writing of an anti-mercury bill in the U. S. House of Representatives. Heart to Heart | Soul to Soul with Nature BY SUNEMAURA O’BRIEN A SPIDERWORT FLOWER gave me the message, “Seek first the kingdom.” I understand seeking the kingdom to mean opening to communion–peaceful, mutually nourishing relationship–with everyone around me. In our culture, we have a strong belief in hierarchy. People are of first importance, animals are secondary, next in line are plants, and stones hold little importance. However, on a soul level, we are all equal. The soul of a dandelion is as important as my soul. Each soul plays a role in creation. We cannot build relationship with nature while believing that one being is more important than the other. This belief shuts down our hearts and separates us.

The first step in opening communion with aspects (beings) of nature is to put away the hierarchy. The next is to open to our own divinity. Accepting that I am a divine being, that I carry the essence of Creator in this world, I become willing and able to relate to the divine spirits in everything around me. These living spirits are continually reaching out and trying to make contact with us. Anyone can talk to nature. It takes only open mindedness, appreciation and time. Start by hugging a tree. Hugging a tree will break down the barrier of self-consciousness. It also sends a clear message to nature that you are here, you are available, and you are willing to be in relationship.

A spiderwort flower

Just reach your arms around an inviting tree. Lean into her. Hug her long enough that you feel a slowing down in your breathing, in your heart. Let a shift in consciousness happen. Embrace her. Feel her return the embrace. Thank her. Converse with a plant by breathing with it: Sit down next to a plant. Breathe in oxygen. Breathe out carbon dioxide. Notice the plant breathing in carbon dioxide. Notice it breathe out oxygen.

Can you participate in a circular breath with the plant? Breathe in its oxygen. Give it your carbon dioxide. Breathe in its oxygen. Give it your carbon dioxide ….. Breathe together in this way. Feel the symbiosis. Allow the breath to shift to your heart. Breathe with the plant, in and out through your heart. Can you feel the union? Open your heart fully to the plant. Allow the plant to speak to you. Draw, write, experience, record. Give thanks. Most importantly, the plant spirits remind me that they do not wish to be approached with a somber heart: “Be Light! Come to us with joy in your heart and laughter in your face!” Excerpted from the upcoming ebook, Earth Spirit Healing: An Introduction to Shamanic Practice. Rev. Sunemaura O’Brien is a spiritual healer and teacher dedicated to supporting individuals in opening doors to authenticity and joy. Prem Rawat Receives Lifetime Achievement Award in Malaysia by Ruby Wood If you haven’t heard the name Prem Rawat, and you are interested in finding peace in your life, now is the time to check out for yourself what he is offering free of charge to all those who come with an open heart. His message is simple and direct. He has said that what we are looking for is within, and that if we need help finding that peace, he can help. On September 28, 2012, at a forum called Seven Billion Reasons for Peace, Prem Rawat was awarded the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation BrandLaureate International Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award, their highest and most prestigious award. Reserved for statesmen and illustrious individuals whose actions and work have positively impacted the lives of people and the world at large, there have been only four other recipients: Nelson Mandela, Hillary Clinton, Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad (Prime Minister of Malaysia 1981-2003), and Heinz Fischer (President of Austria). Prior to receiving this prestigious award, Mr. Rawat addressed a distinguished audience comprised of royalty, captains of industry, diplomats, and delegates from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the U. S., Britain, and Australia. He spoke about the fundamental need for individual peace as a cornerstone of lasting peace in the world. “Peace is about good times!” he said. “Not destruction–construction. If we forget the human being in humanity, if we cannot get along, then heaven help us. Our dividing lines are the very things that divide us.
