Virtuous Questions

by Louanne Headrick

orderliness modesty peacefulness

The general meaning of virtue is “maintaining moral excellence as in right actions and right thinking.” If the goal is to prove we are virtuous, we must prove that we act and think rightly. Just how many of us respond to everyday situations with truthfulness? Surely, the percentage is in the high 90s. How many persons do you know who are self-disciplined? These persons are not like leaves blowing in the wind. They are in control. Do you give service to others? Do you work to pay bills so that your family can live expressing the best that they can be? The service you give, whatever form it takes, is a virtue and a blessing. When you experience rudeness from another do you use tact to avoid a confrontation? If so, you are a peace-keeper and that certainly is a virtue. Demonstrating thankfulness or appreciation are enriching virtues for the vibration of gladness you send out returns to you. I’m sure there are times that you stand in reverence of something precious, like the birth process or seeing a magnificent sunrise. Reverence is a virtue that brings peace to the soul. Do you show respect for the rights of others as well as your own? Then you have developed tolerance, courtesy and dignity within your life habits. Are you and those you know responsible and trustworthy? If so, you are dependable and accountable with your words and actions. What a breath of fresh air are those whose words can be trusted. As you have probably discerned by now, each of these everyday words describing an everyday behavior is a virtue. The ones we use most often become the bones of our personality. Of course, a lack of virtue describes someone who is missing necessary structure in their behavior. These words of virtue are important concepts to teach children early in life, however we must remember that much of life is absorbed through the examples of others. It is never too late to live boldly with virtue, setting a working example for others to experience. Now, have we proven that each of us carries a pattern of virtues which we have learned along this thing called Life? The list might be a short or long but everyone has one. Does the word virtue sound standoffish to you? Is it elite and unrelated to your everyday life? If so, let us look at virtues together and prove to ourselves just how virtuous we are and further that we are virtuous without a conscious realization of it.

PURUSHA

FROM THE EDITOR

Finding Virtue in Our Character Archetype

How virtuous we are outpictures our character archetype for all to see. Our character archetype has the potential to carry us magnificently through life accomplishing the amazing and unreasonable. Virtuous character archetypes are powerful, creative and magnanimous while less virtuous ones are selfish, self-absorbed and unattractive. We know a man who spreads love wherever he goes. He sprinkles love like flower petals whether it’s in person, on the phone or by email and he means it. When you go around preaching love you’d better be the real thing and he is. He walks in a room and the room changes. He lives the love he speaks of and you just want to give back to him the best you’ve got to give even if it’s a challenge for you.

|

PURUSHA K. RADHA

If we are builders, visionaries, creators, explorers, discoverers, people who imagine and love and light up the room wherever we go (Wow! Don’t those descriptions sound and feel so much better?), through our fulfillment we will be joyful and become known for affecting everyone around us in an exhilarating rather than depressing way. We create waves of energy with every emotion we radiate and those waves travel—they don’t stop. What are we responsible for spreading in our own bodies, auric fields and Akasha, in our homes, in our families, in our communities, in the world? Taking responsibility, even for our daily comportment, our social archetype, is a virtue, too. Let’s not waste the valuable lessons of unattractive social and character archetypes that have been presented to us for a reason, whether they are our archetypes or another’s. When we truly desire to elevate our character, it’s virtue that takes us there and we are always in the flux and flow of uncovering and discovering the beautiful character of our soulular selves. There is always more to realize and that is very exciting!

For years, we’ve observed a woman who will talk her way through anything. She’ll say whatever it takes to get what she wants even if it’s not true. She lives for what she can get that moment and knowing her history we suspect this was learned from her parents. We must become aware when we repeat behaviors we learned in childhood which we know inside ourselves are dishonest. Without doing this we can’t really evolve or elevate our character. We must be honest with ourselves and open our eyes to see what our predominant character archetype is. We tend to pick only the pretty lofty ones, adopting them as solely true about ourselves. This not desiring to look at the other side of the archetype coin prevents us from unveiling all that we are. Could we be, at least at times, a judger, a babbler, a curmudgeon, a destroyer, a manipulator, a drama queen? Do we tend to focus on what we are not, what we don’t have or haven’t accomplished? If we are achieving great or small things everyday, why do we continue to “yeah, but?” Our “yeah, but” statements keep us locked in the prison of limitation. If we are a curmudgeon complainer, at least at times, have we stopped to think of how the people around us feel? Could they possibly ever be inspired by us? Would we want to be inspired by us? Have we become observant and conscious of our predominant facial expressions? They betray everything that is going on inside of us. They, too, are an outpicturing of our virtue and our predominant character archetype. Is our face contorted most of the time? Is it held as sad and gloomy or expressionless?

Every Rock In Our Path ... by Dawn Gates

A PURPOSE

When I was in high school in the 80s, I read a 70s book of my mother’s, The Secret Life of Plants, by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird. This book has influenced what I think about plant consciousness. I had realized this at an early age but this book cemented in my head the science behind plants and the conscious connection we share. I remember doing an experiment from out of that book as my high school science project. I learned about universal consciousness and how we are all connected to each other. I remember typing my paper (on a typewriter!) what I did, what differences I noticed, and how I felt about the outcome of the experiment. I remember that the plant that listened to hard rock was stunted and didn’t leaf out fully where the plant that listened to classical music was large leafed and beautiful. I did another experiment where I told one plant that I loved it and told another that I hated it and another I left in complete silence. I could see a huge difference in the plant to which I gave love versus the one I ignored. The plant I told I hated did grow but not as nicely and it had a lot of deformed leaves. This book and experiment gave me my first look at how our minds and behavior affect the world around us. It also reinforced what my grandmother had taught me about the world and how all things were connected not only spiritually but physically and that we need to be mindful about paying attention to all of the connections (universal consciousness) around us. I make this a daily exercise. For me, every rock in my path has a purpose and a consciousness of its own. It may sound silly, but did the rock just get kicked into my path to trip me or was it planned so that I would slow down and focus? Gives one something to think about, doesn’t it? I often try to tap into this universal consciousness when I am driving. Yes, the person may be doing 40mph in a 60mph zone, but what is this trying to tell me? There is often a message there. It is just sometimes hard to hear. I was driving down a road recently and a slow car was in front of me. I recognized that the universe was trying to slow me down so I relaxed and enjoyed the view. A few minutes later, I got a splitting headache and felt the head-on collision that happened a few miles ahead of me (a child had her head crushed). When I drove by the ambulances and police car I realized that if I had been speeding like I normally do that that might have been me. It’s important to pay attention to the energies of the universe and the connections that are there not only for spiritual growth but because it will lead you down a path to your true destiny. REVERSE RUPTURED, HERNIATED, AND BULGING DISCS WITHOUT SURGERY!

M

Introducing the Neuromuscular Pain Relief Center

any people suffer from severe neck and back pain because of ruptured, bulging, and herniated discs. As a result of Michelle Hamel’s work, thousands of patients have avoided painful surgery, nerve blocks, and drugs. Michelle Hamel is a licensed neuromuscular therapist and owner of The Neuromuscular Pain Relief Center. She specializes in the non-surgical elimination of disc and nerve-related pain.

Where does back pain typically come from? It comes from repetitive motion and accidents. In fact, many of our normal daily activities can lead to back pain.

What causes the back pain?

Between the vertebrae a disc can migrate towards the spinal column and place pressure on a branch of the sciatic nerve. Let’s think about a jelly doughnut. When we bend the jelly doughnut forward the jelly comes out the back. This is similar to what happens with the discs between our vertebrae. When the disc pushes against the nerve we feel pain. This can occur in the upper, middle, and lower back. We all have a tendency to lean forward which causes flexion of the spine. This causes posterior disc migration.

What can I do about it?

Michelle’s unique soft tissue protocols can painlessly and quickly return these migrated discs to their normal and correct position. This will re-create your natural structural balance and end the pain cycle.

Here’s how Wally Temple feels about Michelle’s work: “I began experiencing pain in my right hip and groin area followed by ever-increasing numbness in my right thigh. After visiting my primary care physician, I was referred to one of Orlando’s prominent orthopedic

clinics. After a couple office visits there, X-rays, an MRI, physical therapy, and anti-inflammatory drugs, my condition did not improve very much. Fortunately, when mentioning this to a friend with a similar problem in the past, he recommended Michelle Hamel at the Neuromuscular Pain Relief Center. After a consultation with Michelle, and her review of my history on this matter including radiology reports, Michelle suggested my problem might be a bulging disc and not a hip, groin, leg, or other area problem after all. The pain from those areas was originating at the source of the problem–a bulging disc. During a few weeks of soft tissue treatment by Michelle, my pain subsided and was quickly eliminated. Michelle also guided me in establishing some continuing self-help treatment. I highly recommend Michelle Hamel to anyone with back problems, and/or herniated, bulging, or degenerative disc problems. Michelle Hamel has spent 18 years studying the neuromuscular workings of the body and has developed unique soft tissue protocols which reverse bulging, herniated, and ruptured discs and their associated pain. Michelle guarantees significant relief after your first visit. Within three to five visits you will be pain free! Michelle clearly explains to her clients what actually happens to the body when injury occurs and once healed, educates them on how they can remain painfree for life. Not only does Michelle work on the inflammation caused by disc or nerve en-

trapment, she works on the systemic inflammation caused by what we eat, drink, and think. She coaches clients with unique detoxification therapies that enhance the body’s healing processes. This detoxification re-establishes healthy lymphatic circulation throughout the body. This helps to resolve many health issues that may interfere with long-term wellness. Michelle Hamel asks that you allow her to be your coach and share her secrets to a long and healthy life with you. She is a licensed massage therapist and neuromuscular massage therapist (#MA0009077). She is also a certified nutritional coach and additionally certified in lymphatic drainage by Teslar Global Technologies Inc. To Accomplish Something Worthwhile How do we make progress in this world? We must, at least, have the intention of bettering ourselves. We must, at least, be willing to initiate determination and vows. In order to be wise and virtuous, we must first have the intention to be wise and

by Venerable Master Hsing Yun paring the deeds of a person who is virtuous and a person who is not, the intentions become apparent. The virtuous person will always plan to benefit others while the other will always do the opposite. If we want to accomplish something worthwhile or important, intention alone is not enough. We must first have the initiative to do something great, and then we must take the necessary steps to translate our thoughts into actions. People whose achievements have gone down in history all had great ambition and determination. Every one of them had the aspiration to change the world and the course of history forever. Without a strong desire to achieve greatness none of them Continued next page 15

virtuous. In order to better our society, we must first have the determination to help others. It is very important that our intentions not be evil. They must not come from the need to seek advantages for ourselves. If our intentions are not pure and altruistic, they can lead to crime. Therefore, we must direct the purpose of what we plan to do toward the good of humanity. We must keep in mind that good intentions give us the motivation to accomplish that which is philanthropic and beautiful. In this world, there are those who are willing to put forth all their time and effort to bring benefits to their communities. There are also those who are willing to lay down their lives for justice and righteousness. On the other hand, we have been disappointed by government officials’ misconducts. We have been cheated or swindled at one time or another. It has become a common occurrence in today’s society to see someone who will unscrupulously seek pleasure at another’s expense or take every shortcut available with the hope of hitting the jackpot. Unlike the days of our forefathers, people no longer believe in the fruit of labor. They have become susceptible to any scheme that promises a fast track to fame and fortune. Therefore, in com-

From the Mat Into Our Daily Lives

“To Accomplish Something ...” continued from page 14 would be remembered by later generations. Because of their intentions and their willingness for action, they achieved unparalleled distinctions and honors. Not every successful person in this world is born with a silver spoon in his or her mouth. On the road to fame and fortune, most of these people had to overcome adversities and obstacles. We should, indeed, follow their examples in whatever we do, first setting sight on something that is worthwhile and significant and then putting forth all our efforts toward realizing our goals. What should we fear most in life? We should be fearful of laziness and passiveness. We should be fearful of indulgence and moral degeneration. We should be fearful of inaction and cowardice. We should be most fearful of not accomplishing anything in our lifetimes. What we must have is the ambition to achieve greatness. We must be people of virtue and principle. We must have the intention to attain enlightenment here and now or our lives will be wasted. by Karen Hirten Developed by sages thousands of years ago, yoga works on several different levels of the body. The asanas (postures, poses) are just one of seven branches of yoga. The asanas are the most commonly known of the branches but not the ultimate essence of yoga nor is flexibility the ultimate goal of yoga. By learning the asanas and working with the breath (pranayama) we begin to reduce stress within the body. When we learn to breathe correctly we lower the stress hormone cortisol. The body naturally begins to relax and the muscles release tension and stress. True yoga practice rids the body of toxins which naturally brings health back to our bodies. As a result, we start sleeping better, we lose excess bloating and fat, reduce injury during other activities and resist stressful anxiety in our everyday lives. Through yoga we begin to refine our attention skills. Training the mind to stay centered and present is often the hardest skill to achieve for new yoga students, yet when we let our practice be a meditation in motion we achieve the ultimate harmony of body–mind connection. We become more attuned to who we really are which opens ourselves to our one true self. Yoga provides tools to help us through the challenges of life. We bring the qualities of inner strength, compassion, courage, and balance garnered on the mat into our daily lives. Through mindful practice we build strength and flexibility of our bodies and mind. Karen Hirten is a certified and registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance. She received her certification in 2007 and is certified in pre-postnatal yoga and chair yoga. She presently teaches at Lotus Yoga Center in Apopka. Please see ad this column.

I

was talking to my mother recently. For those who have known me for most of my life, that sentence alone comes as a bit of a shock. For those who haven’t known me as long, let me bring you up to speed.

I spent most of my life angry with my mother. Even after I was well into my healing work, that anger persisted. I had forgiven everyone else. I had even forgiven myself, but I just couldn’t bring myself to forgive her. I held the anger close to me as though it were a shield that would keep her from hurting me again. People would talk to me about the anger. “You need to forgive her,” some well-meaning soul would say. Though I rarely said it out loud, my inner retort was, “Who are you to tell me what I need? You don’t know what my life was like, and you certainly don’t know what she is like.” Forgiveness was elusive, though it really didn’t need to be.

REALIZATION And then realization dawned. My forty years of anger about our past had done nothing to change her, but it certainly had changed me. I was bitter, angry, resentful and a few other choice things that were not high on my list of desirable attributes. It was a painful realization, but it was necessary.

Moving On to a Freer Vibration

by Joanna Hackley Davis, Contributing Personal Transformation Editor

The phrase, “Forgiveness is a gift you give yourself,” took on greater meaning. I received the full realization that forgiving my mother was not about absolving her of the perceived wrongs but releasing myself from the pain of the past.

have imagined. They make us stronger and bolder and more willing to take a stand. They challenge us to protect the weak, cherish the love we find and help to those in need. I can’t say I’m sorry, but I can honestly say that the awful things of this world make me sad–sad that people hurt one another, sad that we hurt ourselves, sad that there are accidents and on-purposes of all kinds that wreck the moment, the day, the rest of a life. Yes, Mom made a good point. I’m not really sorry, but I definitely feel sad when hurtful things happen.

In forgiving her, I set myself free.

I’M NOT SAYING I’M SORRY ANYMORE

The recent conversation with my mother was an interesting one. For most of my life, I had never thought her particularly wise. After forgiveness, I began to view her differently.

IT’S WHAT WE DO WITH IT THAT MATTERS

During our call, she said to me, “I’m not saying ‘I’m sorry’ anymore. Now, I’m saying that I’m sad, because it’s a lot more true.”

At the end of the day, all of life is an experience, and there is no wrong way to have an experience. It’s what we do with the experience that matters.

We talked about it for a while. My takeaway was this: I’m not sorry that it happened. There is a reason for everything, even the bad stuff. If I said I was sorry, it wouldn’t be true, because those experiences are necessary, too.

We can use experiences to stay in victim mode, or we can use them to deepen wisdom. We can fight, flee, learn, grow, stick our collective head in the sand, hold a grudge, forgive or any other thing. None of the results are wrong. Whatever the result,

Those experiences make us who we are. They alter our lives in ways we could not

we will learn something from it. Of course, if I choose to be conscious, if I choose to respond instead of react (react, acting again on old information), if I choose to be aware, the chances are much greater that I will get through the lesson and move on to a freer vibration. Doesn’t that sound like a wonderful outcome–moving on to a freer vibration? Try saying it out loud, “I’m moving on to a freer vibration.” It just sounds juicy! I invite you to try on what you would experience in a freer vibration, then decide if there is something you would be willing to release to get there. Blessings on your journey! Osho, The First Buddha in the Dental Chair: Amusing Anecdotes by His Personal Dentist by Swami Davageet An Excerpt Reprinted with Permission from Sammasati Publishing Swami Devageet’s journey to higher consciousness is told in a heart-warming sincere way– humorous, yet profound–in his book, Osho, The First Buddha in the Dental Chair: Amusing Anecdotes

Filled with funny experiences, personal observations and glimpses of the insight into the man who taught meditation to millions, Osho, The First Buddha in the Dental Chair covers a side of Osho never seen before.

Love and Dentistry

In Pune, after a few days of getting settled into a small apartment in “the Dutch Palace,” I was ready for my new life in the ashram. I applied for work to Vidya, the ashram work coordinator. “Be a dentist,” she told me. I protested, saying that I was finished with dentistry, muttering that I wanted to be a simple disciple in the presence of my master. She gave me a withering look, made more powerfully bleak by her pale blue eyes piercingly observing me from their perch above her powerful nose. She repeated herself briefly and sharply, “Devageet, be a dentist.” I continued mumbling that Nirvan’s dental office was barely big enough for one dentist, never mind two. And that Nirvan was more than able to ... Vidya interrupted, leaning forward and looking into my eyes even more penetratingly with her steely orbs, before repeating slowly, with great effect: “Devageet – be – a

I had walked to the small room that served as the soon-to-be dental office for sannyasins. Showing me the dental machines he had carefully set up, Nirvan had initially been friendly and mellow, happy to show a fellow professional his fine cabinetry and gadgetry. I was very impressed by his woodworking skills and general expertise. The first day we worked together in Pune, he had casually complained about “those bitches in the front office.” The next day he complained bitterly about his loss of erectile function “due to this fucking heat,” and how he couldn’t stop farting: “God, man, my wind is like rotten eggs. Those fucking amoebas and giardia in my guts are sucking out all my life juices.” He painted a vivid picture of his virile decline due to an invasion by tropical intestinal parasites. On my third day as his assistant, Nirvan announced that he was leaving Pune for America. He generously offered to sell me his vast stock of vitamins, unbelievable quantities of dental floss, exotic Californian food supplements, and a fine, but over-priced, foam-and-coconut fiber mattress of his own design. I had to decline his offer due to my poverty but I was impressed by the quality and quantity of his possessions.

With Nirvan’s departure to the United States I had become the Pune ashram dentist. One year later, in January 1979, I had become Osho’s personal dentist. After Nirvan’s departure, I mused that he occasionally may have regretted leaving Pune, perhaps imagining that if he had stayed he would have been Osho’s dentist instead of me. When Nirvan arrived at Rancho Rajneesh in 1981, Dolma, the ashram work coordinator, had unknowingly reversed our original ashram roles by assigning him as my assistant. She instructed him to help me design and build clinical dental rooms for sannyasins in Pythagoras, the communal medical trailer. It took only a few days for Nirvan to attempt a dental coup. He sabotaged our mutually agreed upon plans, stating to me emphatically that whatever dental knowledge I had was of no value. I tried to compromise but his attitude was unbending. I had little

alternative but to refer the matter to Dolma, in her role as ranch work coordinator. She decided on the spot that the three of us–Dolma, Nirvan, and myself–needed an urgent meeting to “sort things out.” The meeting took place in the dusty main street of Rancho Rajneesh. Nirvan robustly restated that I was a mere dental pygmy compared to his superior qualifications and experience. He made a forceful pitch that on Rancho Rajneesh, he should be the person in charge of all things dental. “Christ, Dolma, the guy isn’t even American. He is unqualified!” He went on, powerfully making the point that his clear academic superiority made it obvious that I was not, and could never hope to become, his equal. As I contemplated his argument, I realized that his observations, despite being made with much spray and emphasis, were undeniably true. However, Dolma rejected them, saying, “Nirvan, this is a mystery school, not a dental campus.” At that, he had shaken his head before stomping off into the dust, each step showing his disgruntled resentment. Deliberating on the situation later, I realized that in America, Osho could, and should, have the very finest of dental treatment. I decided to write him a letter offering to stand aside, and asked Vivek to deliver it. In my letter, I explained that by United States standards, my dental skills were modest. I told him I understood that in Pune I may have been the best dentist available due to the poor general standards of dentistry there, but now, in America, where practically every family had a crown-and-bridge specialist as a son-in-law, he could have the best and most highly qualified personal dentist, with much higher qualifications than I possessed. Vivek, always plain spoken and often brutally direct, had raised her fine eyebrows and looked at me as though I was mentally challenged as I explained the nature of the message I was asking her to deliver. In those days, since his arrival in America, Osho had declared himself to be in a period of public silence; messages for him were delivered as letters, usually by an intermediary. But in this case, as we stood in the tiny dental office behind his living room, Vivek personally delivered my note. Within moments she was back. “Devageet, here’s Osho’s reply to your letter: ‘Devageet, don’t be such a fool. You are not my dentist because you are the best dentist in the world. You are my personal dentist because your love for me makes your work perfect. P. S. The other dentist has bad breath.’” Swami Davageet is the author of Osho, The First Buddha in the Dental Chair: Amusing Anecdotes by His Personal Dentist (Sammasati Publishing). FREESTANDING BIRTH CENTERS:

Safe Alternative for Natural Birth Outside the Hospital by S. Robyn Mattox, LM, CPM Freestanding birth centers are home-like facilities staffed with professional, knowledgeable midwives that offer a safe, comfortable place for birth outside of a hospital. They provide natural birth free from unnecessary intervention. This high touch, low tech approach to birth provides a model of care that looks at pregnancy as a healthy state and not as an illness that needs treatment. This philosophy of pregnancy as a state of wellness encourages mothers and fathers to be in control of their pregnancy through education, informed decision-making, nutrition and exercise. This one day in your new family’s life is so special! It should be treated with respect, dig-

nity and personalization. To help make this day so special midwives spend time with their clientele to really get to know them during the pregnancy and to create a true team with mom and her partner. Midwives can provide total care for low risk mothers during pregnancy and birth, full prenatal care, including blood work and ultrasounds. Birth centers also offer classes such as childbirth education and breastfeeding. Most offer an option for water birth. Water birth is used as an important tool in managing the pain of labor while creating a gentle transition for a newborn. Birth centers usually have several birth rooms that look more like a luxury hotel suite than a medical facility. Once a mother is in labor and arrives at the birth center she will be encouraged to eat, drink and move during her labor with her family by her side. The midwives provide continuous physical and emotional support and monitoring of the vital signs of both mother and baby to ensure there aren’t any complications. Equipment is portable and meant to work with a laboring mom, so she can continue to remain active. Some equipment is even waterproof to accommodate continued monitoring when choosing a water birth. If there is a complication, the midwife is well-trained for such a situation. Birth centers are equipped with I.V.s, oxygen and medicine for bleeding. Midwives can quickly provide emergency care for mother or baby while simultaneously transferring to the hospital. Birth centers are usually located only minutes from a hospital and have doctor backup should additional technology be required. Birth centers are a perfect and safe addition to the maternity care system. If you are pregnant and desire a natural, drug-free birth, a freestanding birth center is a viable option to seriously consider when choosing your care team. Robyn Mattox is the Owner of the Inspiration Family Birth Center and a Florida licensed midwife, EMT, doula and childbirth educator. Quantum Healing Hypnosis Therapy (QHHT) is a technique of hypnosis created and developed by Dolores Cannon over her 45-year career as a regressive hypnotherapist while working with thousands of clients in countries all over the world. I have taken training with Dolores Cannon and I am a Dedicated Level II Practitioner, practicing her method for my own clients. Some people might better understand the phrase past life regression and that is exactly how QHHT started–with exploration of past lives. Today, with the expansion of human consciousness, more than just past lives are available to experience. Some people experience future lives, parallel lives, lives on other planets and lives in other dimensions. Some people visit the spirit side. Some people find themselves in the akashic records and still others visit the Temple of Healing. QHHT focuses on the concept that the client will go to the most appropriate time and place to address any requests for healing or information. Sharing Ideas Teaching the World Village by Albert Nuňez, DVM Contributing Spiritual Life Editor Recent studies show that human beings’ evolutionary advances have more to do with our ability to transfer knowledge and information than anything else. Baby chimpanzees seem to find food and hoard it for themselves while human babies find food and tend to share it with others. This willingness to share knowledge and resources has advanced us as a species far beyond what the consciousness of “me and mine” ever would have. It has been cooperation and the transfer of procedural and technological knowledge that has shaped our world. Our most human traits seem to be sociability, openness and compassion. When we withhold and hoard resources and information from each other we make the claim that our universe is a place of lack where there is not enough to go around. In reality, we live in an abundant universe pregnant with possibilities. When we share our ideas and teach a village how to fish, the whole village is fed and prospers.

Please make your healthcare provider aware of this revolutionary way to treat disease that uses fever as a tool. It is my hope that people will soon benefit from the small contributions we have made with our animal friends here in Orlando. I know with your help in educating the medical public it won’t be long before we can all see videos of humans getting out of their wheelchairs as a result of this amazing technology.

I have been a strong advocate for the adoption of iTherm’s1 molecular hyperthermia technology in the United States for a few years. We have used this breakthrough European technology to treat some of the worst cancers in my veterinary practice with very impressive results. We discovered that the devices’ electromagnetic field can help restore neurological function in some paralyzed dogs in a relatively short time. 1 http://www.baldwinparkvet.com/index.php/video-gallery/itherm-video-gallery

Therm hyperthermia will become the standard level of care in human and veterinary medicine for the treatment of many forms of cancer, neurological, immune-mediated2 and internal medical diseases in the future. For now, I can yell from the highest rooftop that we are using the most advanced hyperthermia protocols in the world at our animal hospital for the treatment of otherwise hopeless diseases. This is great for animals, but it breaks my heart knowing that people are years out from benefiting from this technology. When I successfully treat cancer or paralysis in a pet it is common for their owners to inquire where the therapy is available for their human loved ones, and that is the problem. iTherm hyperthermia technology is not taught in schools. In the U.S. only a handful of pioneering veterinarians, doctors and universities are working with it now. The spread of the information has been slow, but it is gaining momentum. If you’ve never heard of it before, then educate yourself on it and know that there is an alternative way to treat some of the worst diseases less invasively, more compassionately, and with impressive results. People should not have to leave the U. S. on medical vacations in order to receive hyperthermia treatments when it’s available for pets here now. It’s going to take a whole village to get the word out.

The world is rapidly blurring the lines between villages. Globalization is showing us just how interdependent we are to each other. The old paradigm says, “My ideas give me power.” The new paradigm realizes that these very human ideas come from the field of consciousness itself and belong to us all. The new paradigm says, “I win if my contributions benefit the village as a whole and not just myself.” I win if I share because I am connected to and interdependent with humanity as a whole. When we share ideas that benefit us all we advance collectively!

26

We decided to share these results rapidly with other scientists so that further trials could begin as soon as possible rather than delay the information in a patenting procedure. Why? Because when I saw the first paralyzed dog walk as a result of the iTherm therapy I knew that this discovery belonged not to us but to all the paralyzed members of the village. The rapid dissemination of this information will help the village faster if it is shared and not hoarded.

Create Health, Wealth and Unconditional Love Consciously Via Physics BY STEPHANIE KELLER ROHDE Day-to-day life (our very own unique current reality) is created by us individually via our desires—as well as by our thoughts, beliefs, and felt emotions about our desires, and all outward actions taken in the direction of fulfilling our desires. Many however (consciously or unconsciously) disregard their inner thoughts, beliefs, and felt emotions (about their desires) and concentrate exclusively on the outward action steps to obtain whatever it is they want to have and experience in their life. For anyone who currently is sick, doesn’t have enough money or is experiencing unhappy relationships with others, “the physics reason” for this is that their thoughts, beliefs and felt emotions are not in alignment with the desires and/or outward actions (refer to accompanying diagram). If, as an example, vibrant health is a sincere desire, the focus of one’s mind has to always be on health (not ever on sickness) along with thinking, believing and feeling that health is possible at every age. A conundrum that exists for far too many today is that they instead choose to think, believe, and/or feel that sickness is automatic with chronological maturity—which can happen, yes, but certainly does not have to materialize. Sickness, health and anything in between all are very real possibilities of one’s life experience totally controlled from within by each person. Our life works like an echo in a canyon. What we put out from within us is reflected back only to us.

Feel Your Chakric Energy by Reverend E. Ann Otzelberger, NST Chakra is a Sanskrit word for wheel and the term for the our etheric body’s energy centers. They look like wheels to the clairvoyant and continuously rotate while drawing in energy from the etheric atmosphere to supply the spiritual body. The energy is transmitted by the nervous system to the physical body. Most information tells us there are seven chakras in line from the lower to the upper chakra. The chakra array is a complexity that begins with the lower root chakra being most simple. The next spleen chakra is more complex and so on until the most complex and beautiful to see crown chakra is reached. The two lower chakras relate to the physical plane and are not psychic. The two upper chakras are connected with the pituitary and pineal glands and come into awareness with an amount of spiritual development. It is important to conserve and store our vital energy for purposes of self-development. We misuse our vital energy when we watch negative programs on television or read negative articles or books. Things that are violent or upsetting are usually negative issues. Even when we associate with negative people our mental state comes down. This will cause us to become fatigued and we will feel a loss of energy. At times, it may be necessary to associate with people who are negative in their thinking and speech and in such a case we

should learn to place protection around ourselves. Some people are known to be sappers. They take energy from other people and usually are unaware they do this. People who allow their energy to be used and wasted are tired and not sure why. We must learn to either avoid sappers or mentally tune them out. We can cross our legs and arms to help block this energy from affecting some of our chakras and to help us conserve our energy so that it can be used for the highest good. Pay attention to your emotions and try to always remain calm. Feel your chakric energy and know you are in control. In the words of Andrew Jackson Davis and his Magic Staff,1 “Under all circumstances, keep an even mind.” Reverend E. Ann Otzelberger is the Founding Pastor of New Vision Spiritualist Center. She is an NSAC Ordained Minister, a Commissioned Spiritualist Healer, a certified medium and National Spiritualist Teacher. Reverend Otzelberger is a Trustee on the Board of Directors of the NSAC. Reverend Ann also serves the Morris Pratt Institute as Vice President of their Board of Directors and is on their Education Committee. 1 (August 11, 1826–January 13, 1910) Andrew Jackson Davis was a well-known nineteenth century seer, spiritualist and clairvoyant healer, prescribing individualized treatments for patients to follow. While Mr. Davis was in a trance state he encountered a spiritual being who presented him with a magic staff. Inside the staff were small segments which contained the name of a specific illness and the cure. This mental cane became the symbol upon which he used to access information and became the title of his autobiography, The Magic Staff.

around the world to other marine parks. Will this madness ever stop? Most Central Floridians have only seen Sea World as a tourist destination. Watching Blackfish we come to see this billion-dollar conglomerate for what it truly is: a cruel, heartless business that is surely reaping its karma for the generations of pain and suffering it has caused. As former SeaWorld trainer Jeffrey Ventre says, “We’ll look back in 50 years and say, ‘My God, what a barbaric time.’”

THE DARK SIDE OF SEAWORLD BY IRLIANNA SAMSARA

lackfish is a searing documentary and Oscar frontrunner on the dark and abusive practices of Sea World and other marine parks.

The Enzian Theatre in Maitland and Cinematique Daytona Beach are to be commended for screening Blackfish in Sea World’s backyard. It will be released nationwide on DVD and Blu-ray November 12. Using actual footage of whale captures and interviews with former Sea World employees, director Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s film uncovers the truth about killer whales and goes where no other documentary has gone before. In doing so it reveals decades of propaganda and lies fed to us by Sea World. Contrary to Sea World’s claims that whales are solitary, we discover that the orca is very much a social creature who typically swims 50 to 100 miles a day in the wild and never leaves its mother its entire life. In SeaWorld whales are imprisoned in concrete pens and will not ever swim the oceans nor see their families again. The size of the pen would be equivalent to a human spending the rest of his life in a bathtub. Cowperthwaite masterfully lays out her film’s main premise: orcas and dolphins imprisoned at Sea World often die prematurely from stress and other captivity-related causes and that these conditions caused the tragic 2010 drowning of top Sea World trainer Dawn Brancheau by Tillikum, a killer whale.1 Tillikum was captured near Iceland in 1983 and has spent 30 years in captivity. We see heart-rending footage of baby Tillikum’s capture and another as he is lifted out of the water crying (his pod refused to leave him and stayed on the other side of the nets calling to him). The man who helped capture him weeps openly at the memory. “The worst thing I ever did,” he says. Despite numerous incidents of whale aggression worldwide, Sea World continues to not only use whales for entertainment but also inbreeding, genetically creating more aggression. They even separate the orcas bred in captivity from their mothers and ship them 1 A large toothed whale with distinctive black and white markings and a prominent dorsal fin. It lives in groups that cooperatively hunt fish, seals and penguins.

Soul

moves through the evolutionary process in a number of different forms, including those of animals and birds. These are some of the many different ways in which Soul gains experience, thereby gaining expression of Its divine self.

A Spiritual Exercise to Give and Receive Divine Love

In the process, Soul must learn to receive love and to give love.

Reprinted with permission of Eckankar

Excerpted from Animals Are Soul Too! by Harold Klemp

One of the best ways to learn how to give and receive divine love is to chant HU as a daily spiritual exercise. Simply sit comfortably where no one will disturb you, close your eyes, and gaze gently into your Spiritual Eye. This is the point between your eyebrows, at the center of your forehead. Then sing HU softly on your outgoing breath. As you do this, feel within the love that God has for you and the love that you have for God. This is why HU is sometimes called a love song to God. Few people take the time to simply sit still and contemplate for twenty minutes to a half hour each day. Yet when you do this, you open your inner senses to the Light and Sound of God—to the pure love of God. And as you do the spiritual exercises and get more of the

Sound and Light of Divine Spirit flowing into you, what are you going to do with it? You can’t spend your life in contemplation of the higher truths without doing anything to bring a little light to your fellow man. One way to start is this: Simply give back some service of love to the world, your friend, your neighbor; and it may be simply by doing a good deed every day that no one ever knows about. To hear the sound of HU, visit www.Eckankar.org, click to the site map, and select “HU, A Love Song to God.” Experience HU by attending a Community HU Chant on Saturday, January 4, at 11:00 a.m. and an ECK Worship Service, “The Light and Sound, Divine Love in Expression,” on Sunday, January 4, at 9:00 a.m. Both events are free and are part of a weekend ECKANKAR conference at the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary, 1501 International Parkway, Lake Mary, Florida 32746. www.eck-florida.org Harold Klemp, spiritual leader of Eckankar, is the leading authority on past lives, dreams, and Soul Travel. The Moral, Unfired Diet BY CHEF T, CONTRIBUTING FOOD EDITOR CHEF T

“Cheer up sisters and brothers and rejoice with me for I have found the key that unlocks the door to physical, mental, moral and spiritual savation and I will tell you how to use that key if you will but listen. Those who are seeking for absolute health, longevity and refinement should understand that THE BODY, MIND, SPIRIT AND SOUL ARE ABSOLUTELY INTERDEPENDENT... A healthy body can only be built and maintained with Nature’s perfect (unperverted and unfired) food, pure water, fresh air, sunshine, exercise, restful sleep and a serene mental attitude savored with lofty aspirations.” [ George J. Drews, 1913 ]

And so began a movement 100 years ago that urged the consumption of the moral, all living, vegan diet. Early naturopathic doctors and chiropractors like George Julius Drews and Helen Sherry wrote prolifically about the curing and vitalizing effects of an apyrotrophic diet. From Unfired Food and Tropho-Therapy Apyrotrophy was a by George J. Drews, Al. D., D. C., N. D. newly coined word from the Greek: A–un, pyros–fire, and trophy–nourishing, unfired feeding. A now antique book by Drews entitled, Unfired Food and Tropho-Therapy (food cure), features several hundred raw food recipes for concoctions called synedes (a raw unmixed salad prepared in a large dish with each ingredient arranged in its own place on the dish) and possets (a vegetable, tuber and fruit juice blend). Living organics like the dahlia bulb were considered important and delicious to eat, but the work of these physicians mainly focused on the science behind the moral, all living, vegan diet–moral meaning living vegetation with an emphasis on leafy greens. Vegetarianism was established by early naturopaths as one of the twelve original principles of naturopathy yet Drews took vegetarianism steps further by passionately advocating eating only an unfired (uncooked) plant-based diet. While the science and wisdom of embracing a raw vegan diet was the outgrowth of this new movement of nourishing the body, its cornerstone and very essence for being was morality. The apyrotrophic plant-based diet was considered pure and that puri-

ty translated to virtuous The new vegetarian wants his food ideals of with all its nutritive value to the system, m o r a l i t y. that is to say, he wants it uncooked, or The “trounfired, and for that he calls himself an phers” beUnfired Fooder, or, in Greek, lieved that an Apyrotropher. food choic[ Helen Sherry, 1913 ] es elevated one’s place in the social order. The raw food devotees of that time attached morality to food choice and most considered raw vegetarian food as “the only moral diet known to science” (The Naturopath and Herald of Health, Dagenbach and Drews, 1913, p. 200). They argued quite simply that if you knew a certain food to be injurious to your health, resulting in disease, your social responsibility for being able to contribute to society was jeopardized. They believed malnutrition in most cases was the cause of disease and premature death and there was no more nutritious diet than apyrotrophy. Sherry advocated that he who adopted the raw diet “had the satisfaction of feeling that he had added immeasurably to his moral stature. He is a better, healthier and mentally, a saner man than he ever was before” (1913a, p. 52). The conscious eater contributed to a higher “mode of feeding” (Sherry, 1913b, p. 122) leading to spiritual triumph and self-mastery. Helen Sherry vocalized, “If what we eat makes us more or less efficient in the work of the world, we are morally bound to select such a diet as will give us strength adequate to the calls upon us” (1913b, p. 122). These naturopaths passionately believed that virtuous ideals were more easily accomplished and maintained by eating raw plant-based food. The fact that a similar sentiment prevails to this day indicates that raw vegans experience an elevated sense of not only physical well-being, but mental, emotional and spiritual. Vegetarians and vegans today tend to think of themselves as more compassionate and more spiritually enlightened than many of their carnivorous counterparts and perhaps there’s a reason why. The Magic of Doing What Comes Naturally by Michelle Spalding Each of us has a special gift, something magical and unique to us–a thing, if you will, that we’re really, really good at, that makes us light up when we share it with others–our life’s purpose. Many of us start businesses to follow our life’s purpose and share our gifts with the world. Whether we start out part-time or jump in full-time, all who dare to make a living sharing their gifts are heroes in my book and deserve a standing ovation. As a metaphysical business coach, teacher, and fairy godmother, I help people blend creativity, passion and adventure to create the lives and businesses they want. The most common message I have for the tired and frustrated clients I work with is, “Stop trying to do it all.” Following our passion, sharing our gifts and doing it for a living shouldn’t be draining. On the contrary, it should feel energizing and empowering. When we’re doing what comes naturally and delegating or eliminating the rest, we have more time, energy and passion for sharing our gifts with the world, and we’re a lot happier as well!

BODY SIGNALS: Proper Communication Techniques with Your Animals by Jo Maldonado In my research of developing an easier way of communication between the humans and animals, I came across Prof. Amy Cutty, a Harvard University professor who developed the theory of power poses in people demonstrating how body language impacts one’s ability to get a job. I tested her theory with horses. Wild horses would turn away from the human holding the power pose, yet when the pose was changed to submissive, rounding out the shoulders and hunching forward with dragging feet, the horse would either mimic the human, approach slowly or stand quietly observing. Although dogs’ responses to these poses were different, the results of our work were fascinating. When dogs who presented a problem on the leash were walked by humans in a power pose, the dogs walked alongside instead of pulling, increased eye contact for direction and mimicked the human’s gait.

We don’t have to do it all, we just have to be amazing at what we love to do. And we have to let others do the things that are blocking us from living the life we truly desire.

Not only did we find that the routine exercises of power poses showed exciting responses from the animals we worked with, it gave the people great results, too: self confidence, more energy and a greater satisfaction knowing their quality time with their animal companions was more rewarding. It’s a win-win!

Have Japanese Scientists Discovered the Fountain of Youth? Kangen Water

Healthy Virtues Pave the Way to Fully Living and Serving

by Bobbie Allen

Have you ever been in a room with someone who is acting out or speaking ill words and you find yourself remaining calm and peaceful on the inside as you observe? In the midst of the chaos of life, do you find yourself remaining in self-control? When you are given a job to do, are you performing with perseverance? When you sing or dance, are you moving from the internal power within you? If you answer yes, you possess healthy virtues.

Using a small device about the size of a coffee maker, a 39-year-old Japanese company, Enagic, figured out a way to change the molecular structure of water. At the push of a button, an unlimited supply of seven different waters can be made and instantly dispensed: Four of the waters are for drinking, ranging from 7.0 pH to 9.5 pH; another is “Beauty Water,” sixth is a 5.5pH filtered water that is used as a facial toner; and finally, an 11.5pH eco-friendly cleaner. One water is a 2.7 pH strong acidic water that has been making waves as an extremely efficient, cost effective, eco-friendly sanitizer. Restaurants in Japan have been using this water to disinfect and sanitize foods, sushi knives, cutting boards, kitchens and bathrooms. Instead of inhaling fumes from traditional cleaning supplies while working in small confined guest rooms and bathrooms, some American hotels are discovering a new way to clean green and save green while housekeeping staff members call it “miracle water.” For most families and businesses, the ability to make these cleaning and sanitizing waters alone can justify the investment in the Kangen water machine. It will wash pesticides from your produce. It will enhance flavors in your recipes. It will elevate your health and beauty. For more information, please refer to ad this column.

creating a greater state of body by Dr. Silver Horse, DC As we move deeper into our spiritual movement we gain a greater understanding of the importance of awareness. We are awakening to the reality of our divine nature and awareness of where we are still holding old patterns and concepts of limitation become more and more important. Many have become aware that there is far more to existence than is seen around us and that they are far more than they have been taught. We seem to be drawn to new ideas and subtle energies, yet we still inhabit physical bodies and seem to be easily pulled back into more dense thoughts and actions. It has been our experience that the more awareness we can bring to each moment we become able to see the deeper patterns that seem to guide much of our backsliding. Although it would seem these bodies we carry around are a limitation to our spiritual advancement, we propose just the opposite: We choose to have these bodies and to live specifically in the one we have. Why? Because it would provide the perfect vehicle for us to learn how to transcend this three dimensional reality. In our specific body, we may have been challenged with body image issues, illnesses, physical and emotional trauma and more. All of these are there to help us learn to identify less with the limits of this world and to step into our true nature and personal power. As we accept this expansion of our understanding we desire to be more aware of the subtleties of how energies move through our beings and what may be hindering or blocking that flow. We then

awareness

must become more aware of our diet and how the densities of our food, the added chemicals, the GMOs, the gluten, the refined sugars and even the cooking of our food can weigh us down and stop or at least interfere with this divine flow. It is important to realize that we must begin eating food less for its taste alone or to satisfy an emotional craving but for the light and energy within the food that will uplift us spiritually as well as properly nourish our body vehicle. We also start to recognize many of our aches and pains can be removed or lessened if we treat our bodies from a greater place of awareness. We may begin a yoga practice, qigong, tai chi, Soma System™ (a system that teaches us how to be our own body worker), or begin receiving regular bodywork and really working on finding our places of holding within our bodies, releasing them and opening to a greater freedom and flow within our being. Our bodies are our first line of defense in this world and they hold the record of how we have reacted to all the stresses and traumas we have experienced while on planet Earth. By becoming more aware of our bodies we can learn more about ourselves and see how our personal patterns of fear, and protection are limiting our spiritual advancement. Dr. Silver Horse is offering classes in the Soma System™ entitled How to Be Your Own Bodyworker Mondays at 10:30 a.m. at Downtown Yoga in Mount Dora. He also has a private practice in Gainesville and Mount Dora offering Cranial Chiropractic with gentle body alignment, assistance with deep emotional release and life empowerment coaching. There’s a New Wind Blowing: Authenticity–The New Currency by Jacquelyn Gioertz

The world is changing fast and with it the way business is done around the globe. Gone are the days of competition, cold-hearted manipulating and selling of half-truths. Today’s consumers are way more heart-centered and are looking to do business with people who are real. Women make about 80% of the buying decisions on our planet and as it continues to shift, we are seeing more and more of the Divine Feminine resurfacing. Women make buying decisions very differently than men so it’s critical for your business to learn how to market to women. The earth herself is transitioning into more of the Feminine Energy. Scientists have noted that the ice of the South Pole (symbolically the South Pole represents the yin or feminine energy) has been expanding, while the ice around the North Pole (symbolically representing the yang or male energy) has, in fact, been getting smaller (www.floweressencedeva.com). With the new feminine energies bringing in an elevated level of consciousness we are asked to change our old ways of thinking that are clearly no longer working. Everywhere around the world, we observe the collapsing of governments, corporations and other infrastructures. They must be deconstructed in order to rebuild them better and stronger. The new consciousness is bringing in more intuitive abilities, more nurturing, healing and collaboration. It’s also bringing in more aware-

ness of Mother Earth and how we can better harmonize with animals and plant life. More eco-friendly thinking is on the rise. We, as a people, are realizing that we are all connected and that heart-centeredness is what people are instinctively looking for when they search out who they want to give their business to. Statistics also show that the number of women entrepreneurs is growing. According to www. womenonbusiness.com, there has been a 20% increase in the number of women-owned businesses from 2002 to 2011. The new business world of women, though, is dominated by cooperation and helping each other achieve greater heights. There is a knowing that abundance is there for everyone who will reach out for it. The Feminine Energy is not only about women, though. It’s about balance. Men as well as women need to find the balance of their female and their male energy. Both energies play important roles and like most things, balance is key. It’s a fascinating time to be here on our beautiful planet earth, and you are not here by accident. There’s a new wind blowing. It’s time to BE who you came here to BE. Embrace the new and BE your authentic self. Then watch how you and your business thrive. Moderation... Moderation... Moderation...

U s i n g technology wisely and with discernment has the potential to create positive effects in our lives. With the Internet portal of vast amounts of information readily accessible to us, we have instant access to important education (be discerning here, too).

My beautiful loving wife Vivian and I travel extensively around by Paulo Bendall the U. S. and abroad sharing our knowledge of artificial electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs) coming from all electronic devices. We are surprised to encounter so many people unaware of the adverse affects these gadgets have on our physical bodies and health. When we see babies and toddlers playing with their mothers’ cellphones, my hair stands on end! My heart goes to those beautiful young beings who will suffer because of their well-meaning parents’ misinformation or lack of information. Our loving grandparents who have gone through so much in life, having done their best to provide our parents with a good life, are now subject to modern electronic gadgets they wear around their necks and on their wrists. I met one beautiful sweet 86-year-young lady who came in to one of my lectures shaking like a leaf with a walking stick. I found out she had a remote for everything you can imagine–one to unlock the house, one for the car and a whole host of other kinds of electronic gadgets. This adorable lady was up-todate with modern technology but physically very weak. After some guidance and assistance with our EsAamoraa decals and pendants, we were so pleased to see her walk out the door carrying the walking stick in her hand and with a very big smile.

a calmer nervous system and overall sense of improved well-being. Cover the Wi-Fi transmitter with aluminum while not in use and even better still, switch to hardwired Internet service. Use the least amount of wireless service possible, opting for hardwire service. Plug in an additional mouse and traveling keyboard to your laptop. Avoid directly touching your laptop or placing it on your lap. Some cellphones are coming with warnings so limit their use. Don’t keep them in pockets and always use the speakerphone! Eat lots of organic apples. The pectin binds to radioactive particles. Iodine supplement your diet and eat sea vegetables rich in iodine. Replace regular salt with pink Himalayan sea salt.

Hold your arms up in front of you, forming beaks with your thumbs and fingers. Open and close your beaks four times. Put your thumbs in your armpits and flap your elbows four times. Bend your knees and wiggle your hips four times, placing your arms and hands like the tail feathers of a chicken. Straighten your knees and clap four times. Repeat this sequence several times.

We urge you to take the time to find 5. out what you can do to have the least effect on your physical, mental and emotional body from electronic devices and we wish you much happiness and joy while using your wonderful modern gadgets! Paulo Bendall is the creator and founder of EsAamoraA, LLC, sharing pendants and decals designed to neutralize the effects of EMFs. Today’s technology can be a very positive force in our lives, however the key is MODERATION, MODERATION and MODERATION (my wise mother’s words). It’s simple—every time you are exposed to a television, computer, tablet, cell or cordless phone, electronic game, automobile, motorcycle, boat, airplane, radar, Wi-Fi, remote control, hairdryer, heater, air conditioner, laptop, x-ray, fluorescent light, GPS, microwaves, refrigerator, electric stove, washing machine, clothes dryer (and the list goes on and on), do the chicken dance! It’s a lot of fun and it releases built up chaotic energy. Do this every hour on the hour when possible. You will think more clearly and be more productive. Touch a tree with both hands for a minimum of three minutes and go barefoot as often as possible. This is very grounding and releases static electricity. You will feel more connected, have sharper thinking, less stress,

It may be that most of us have a misconception of what the definition of happiness truly is.

virtue is sufficient for happiness

Ask most people what happiness means and they will talk about feeling good or about things that give them pleasure. This is especially unfortunate since happiness is an essential concept in our own nation’s founding and Declaration of Independence: that all men are endowed with certain inalienable rights, among these the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

by Rev. Timothy Yero

This doesn’t mean that we are endowed with the right to feel good or to only act in a way that pleases us. Robbing a bank may make thieves feel happy but to claim the right to pursue that line of work would be absurd. Happiness is not self-gratification. So what, then, does happiness mean? Our founding fathers understood the pursuit of happiness to mean the pursuit of a virtuous life which is everyone’s inalienable right. This concept of happiness comes from the Greek eudaimonia which refers to a life well-lived, a life rooted in truth. Greek philosopher stoics make virtue necessary and sufficient for eudaimonia and thus deny the necessity of external goods to achieve happiness. Stoics Seneca and Epictetus emphasized that because “virtue is sufficient for happiness,” a sage was immune to misfortune. We need to reclaim our American life especially within our spiritualism. After all, a Barna survey1 revealed that more than half of evangelicals agreed with the statement, “The purpose of life is enjoyment and personal fulfillment.” If the last 50 years have taught us anything, it’s that consumerism and hedonism (the pursuit of unbridled pleasure) do not lead to happiness but to personal and societal misery. The goal is not pleasure. It is righteous living, decency, honor, doing good–in short, living a virtuous life. Reverend Timothy resides in Homosassa, Florida. He is the co-founder of New Age Thinkers, a community group of over 300 positive followers. A Vietnam vet and a 30-year business owner, he holds a B. S. degree from Pepperdine University and was formerly a corporate trainer in sales, marketing, and management. He specializes in writing, teaching positive thinking, and meditation techniques. With November being World Vegan Month we are once again reminded that switching to a vegan diet is plain and simple one of the most critical actions we can take to save the earth. Ice cream heir John Robbins’ Pulitzer Prize-nominated Diet for a New America and The Food Revolution: How Your Diet Can Help Save Your Life and Our World are but two of a plethora of books that give us all the particulars about the extraordinary benefits of a vegan diet. The sad statistics on animal treatment and diseases caused by meat and dairy consumption are a huge impetus to change our diets and our lives. So is reading about the rapidly growing vegan movement worldwide. It’s all inspiring and noble and feels great–until the holidays arrive! There, in a sea of partiers scarfing down meat, dairy, gluten, processed sugar and animal fat (to say nothing of a bit o’ bubbly!), we can easily lose our resolve to stay healthy. Here are six tips to help us sail through the holidays, stay vegan and even inspire others.

How to Stay

Vegan

at the Holidays by Irlianna Samsara

Eat before you go. Come on. It’s Aunt Betty. You

know she’s going to haul out that signature roast beef of hers. Solution? Feast at home first. Filling up on your favorite vegan delights ahead of time is a surefire way to avoid temptation later.

Bring your tastiest vegan dish or two. Share. Simply explain to Aunt B. that since she

last saw you, you’ve changed your diet. Tell her not to worry, you’ll bring dishes you can eat and are glad to share with others. That will plant a seed of curiosity and lots of great conversation if nothing else.

Keep it light! The last thing anyone wants to hear is a preachy vegan, especially at

the holidays when everyone is caving on health and wellness. (Non-preachiness applies to 12 months of the year.) Simply glide up to the table, smile and say, “I’ve got (name of dish) here. Would you like to try some? Secret family recipe!” Keep it breezy and easy. Be humorous. Laugh. Humor opens many a closed mind!

Allow for spontaneity. Bring veggie snacks like kale chips, celery and apples in a little

tote bag with you. Leave these in your car. You never know what might happen later in the evening. Some impromptu after-party might give you the late-night munchies. Being prepared with a bunch of healthy snacks makes for a guilt-free evening and a glorious feeling in the morning.

Make it a game! See how many parties you can attend and not cheat. Have fun with it! Forgive yourself if you slip, and reward yourself for your efforts.

Bring friends into your world. Hold a party at a healthy restaurant. Vitality Bistro in

Mount Dora, for example, has a host of gourmet vegan dishes that delight even the most ardent meat-eaters. Everyone goes home happy! Irlianna Samsara is the author of The Codes of Harry Potter: Mystical Messages to Transform Our World, available on Amazon. A vegan diet is discussed in the book’s final chapter, Harry’s Alchemy for a New World Community. The book benefits The Harry Potter Alliance, a worldwide human rights organization. Experience a Reminder of the Light Being You Are Through Psychography and Arcing Light Energy. Psychography was developed by the late Rev. Dr. Franklin Loehr and is defined as the “mapping of the soul.” It is a tool used to help us develop a deeper understanding of our connection with spirit and our soul’s purpose. Psychography is done in an altered state that assists us to recall and heal memories from this lifetime or previous lifetimes. Arcing Light healing was founded by Lorna Malmberg in 2002. Arcing Light uses a dimensional overlay to bring light energy through the healer’s hands. It modifies cellular energy with radial light to allow a healthy, natural balance. Arcing Light assists us in releasing emotional blocks we store within ourselves. Rev. Lorraine Bond of Eustis, spiritualist medium/teacher/healer, provides both Psychography and Arcing Light healing. Is This the End of Real Food? The film GMO OMG made its world premiere at the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival. Screen Daily called the film “powerfully provocative” and “a subject that needs to be focused on.” GMO OMG director and concerned father Jeremy Seifert is in search of answers. How do GMOs affect our children, the health of our planet, and our freedom of choice? And perhaps the ultimate question, which Seifert tests himself: is it even possible to reject the food system currently in place, or have we lost something we can’t gain back? These and other questions take Seifert on a journey from his family’s table to Haiti, Paris, Norway, and the lobby of agra-giant Monsanto, from which he is unceremoniously ejected. Along the way we gain insight into a question that is of growing concern to citizens the world over: what’s on your plate? Today in the United States, by the simple acts of feeding ourselves, we are unwittingly participating in the largest experiment ever conducted on human beings. Each of us unknowingly consumes genetically engineered food on a daily basis. The risks and effects to our health and the environment are largely unknown. Yet more and more studies are being conducted around the world which only provide even more reason for concern. We are the oblivious guinea pigs for wide-scale experimentation of modern biotechnology. GMO OMG follows one family’s struggle to live and eat without participating in an unhealthy, unjust and destructive food system. Has the global food system been irrevocably hijacked or is there still time to heal the planet, feed the world and save ourselves? GMO OMG also takes a critical look at the corporations who control what we eat. Last year, Monsanto and other food industry leaders spent $45 million to defeat a ballot in California that would require GMO labeling. And more recently, in an effort to combat labeling on food packaging, a conglomerate of biotech companies put up an informational website to disseminate their point of view on GMOs and try to make people feel safe about what they are eating. How to Book a Reading by Kit and Natalie Mitchell

by Kirby Moore

When booking a reading, do yourself a big favor—research, research and research again. A reading is a very personal and enlightening experience, however not everyone works the same so you need to find the right reader for you. First, understand what you want to get out of the reading. Are you looking for evidence of a loved one who has passed over? If so, seek an evidential medium. Do you want practical solutions to specific problems? Or do you want to know about your love life? Maybe you are at a particular junction in life where you don’t know which way to turn or know what to do next. In these cases, seek a psychic or psychic medium. After deciding what type of reading is going to suit you, again research, this time looking at your reader. Is it a medium, a psychic or maybe tarot card reader? Ask friends and family. Check the internet and review their websites. Ask about their training. Research! Above all, trust your gut. Look at their website, sit quietly, say their names and allow your higher self to help you make the right decision. Finally, do not get addicted to readings. Our souls came to this earthly plane to experience and co-create our life. Do not disempower yourself by allowing others to make your final choices. What makes us different is free will. Never take that privilege for granted. Revs. Kitione “Kit” and Natalie Mitchell are evidential mediums, psychics, intuitive counselors and coaches. Training in the Spiritualist Churches of England, Arthur Findlay College and numerous development circles, they have studied under some of the best mediums in the world. For readings with Kit and/or Natalie visit: www.KitandNatalie.com or call 813-4515969. Please see ad this column.

Spiritual Astrology

Astrology provides an interesting glimpse into the window of our psyches. It can bring clarity, recognition and purpose to our lives. Whether we are looking at the natal chart–the horoscope cast at the moment of birth which can show anything from personality temperaments to our needs from relationships to financial desires–or if we are looking at timing charts which indicate how the outer world will interact with our natal chart, astrology provides excellent insights to better navigate our environment whether within or without. Spiritual astrology takes this a step further: how do our karmic imprints lead to habitual predispositions in this life? What types of challenges are we manifesting in this lifetime to grow and mature as a soul? What type of yoga is best for our inner transformation and joy (relationship yoga, the subtle yoga of meditation, traditional yoga or more external forms of yoga like outdoor recreation)? Then we can use timing charts to see when is the best time for that relationship or when is a certain energy strongest in the chart and how can we take advantage of it. Spiritual astrology can show us how to connect with source and how to stabilize that profound and vital connection. Kirby Moore offers healing facilitation, astrological consulting and coaching to individuals. He works with the following areas of Western astrology: natal astrology, timing dynamics, relationship and medical astrology. In addition, he offers process-oriented bodywork utilizing craniosacral work, Reiki energetic healing and Zapchen Somatics. Kirby has been practicing spiritual astrology professionally since 2005. Please see Kirby’s ad below.

It was founded by Samuel Hahnemann over 200 years ago, although the principles on which it is based have been utilized in healing for thousands of years. Homeopathic remedies work through activating the body’s own powers of self-regulation and self-healing. Since its inception, homeopathy has benefited people from all walks of life and all ages in countries all over the world. Homeopathic medicine is the second most common form of alternative medicine in the world today. It works according to three principles: 1) the Law of Similars 2) the minimum dose, and 3) the single remedy. creating our future in the now .............. As we near the completion of 2013, contemplate your personal journey over the past year and also our collective journey as a global community. The energies of harmony, truth, justice, compassion and social responsibility as well as a focus on health, well-being and service permeated the consciousness of the past year. How have these energies manifested in your own experiences? How do we see them playing out in our world? Life on our planet is evolving! Look around and you will see change occurring everywhere! More and more people are pushing for truth, justice and equality with revolutions in all sectors of society. The focus on health has certainly intensified–from national healthcare to expansion of alternative healing modalities to Lincoln Hospital in New York City prescribing fresh vegetables instead of meds for asthma and high blood pressure patients! Yes, there is still inequality, strife and suffering, but the polarities of peace, healing, love and compassion are alive as well. Many are slowly awakening to the reality of our interconnection with each other and feeling the empowerment of the collective We the people–We–encompassing everyone. We are all in this together and have a responsibility to focus our thoughts, words and actions on only the most positive we can imagine–love, peace, harmony and truth. If our every thought, word and action assist in creating the reality of our world, what kind of world do we want to create? Sun in Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21) “calls us to dive deep within, look under rocks and deal with sex, death and the meaning of existence... sharpens our attention, but we choose whether to obsess on a problem or focus on solutions.” (from We’Moon 2013, p.14) The new moon on November 3 is a solar eclipse empowering new beginnings. November 10, Mercury Retrograde ends but it may take another week or so to get back on track. Notice what arises for you around the November17 full moon. Sun in Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21) asks us to “reach for the bigger world, freely speak our truth, celebrate existence... play, explore gratitude, commune with nature; our challenge is not to lose focus in the process.” (from We’Moon 2013, p.14) December 2 is a new moon. Envision what you would you like to see unfold. Around the full moon on December 17 ask for the truth of who you are to be revealed more fully! On December 21 with the Winter solstice we move into the grounding energy of Capricorn. Embrace whatever unfolds and enjoy the magic of the journey! The animals offer insights to assist you. ARIES (March 20-April 19) The energy of POLAR BEAR facilitates standing up for yourself and speaking your truth in a loving, respectful manner. Where or with whom do you need to assert yourself in a good way? AFFIRMATION: In all that we say and do, we trust that we are being guided in line with the highest good for all. Joy, peace and a sense of oneness permeate our being. TAURUS (April 20-May 20) GOOSE affirms that it is important for your health and well-being to create regular periods of rest and relaxation. This will greatly assist you in dealing with and recovering from stress. Time spent in self-care always pays off in the long run. AFFIRMATION: When we take care of ourself, everything in life flows more harmoniously. Ahhh... We feel s o o o relaxed.

is virtue alone enough to sustain us? by Solara Attatharya DOM, AP, DNBHE

According to the Merriam Dictionary, the full definition of virtue is: 1 a) conformity to a standard of right : morality b) a particular moral excellence 2) plural: an order of angels; See celestial hierarchy 3) a beneficial quality or power of a thing 4) manly strength or courage; valor 5) a commendable quality or trait; merit 6) a capacity to act; potency 7) chastity, especially in a woman [ 1 ] We strive to be good, uphold morals and be of good character. This sounds admirable and it is. The opposite surely can be our downfall, but is virtue enough to sustain us? Who sets the standard of right and morality in any given time period and culture?

“Virtue is virtue only when it is spontaneous; virtue is virtue only when it is natural, unpractised – when it comes out of your vision, out of your awareness, out of your understanding... If you live with alertness, you live rightly. If you live in imitation, you live wrongly. To me there is only one sin: And that is not to be yourself. And to me there is only one virtue: And that is to know yourself.”

[ Bhagwan Sri Rajneesh ]

[ 4 and 7 ] Courage and valor are wonderful qualities for both men and women. How has chastity changed for women over the years and what about males? To be virtuous shouldn’t it apply to both genders? In a capacity to act, there is a major key for us to look at where virtue is concerned. [ 2 ] “Life has no meaning unless one lives it with a will, at least to the limit of one’s will. Virtue, good, evil are nothing but words, unless one takes them apart in order to build something with them; they do not win their true meaning until one knows how to apply them.” [ Paul Gauguin ] All of us face hardships and challenges and life situations that build our character. If we have never stumbled or made mistakes how can we learn and garner the wisdom of a commendable quality or trait? It is through the lessons we learn and then use in our interaction with our loved ones, community, nation, and planet that virtue becomes a reality. Utilizing this wisdom becomes the very thread that forms the fabric of our destiny and the universes. Our journey depends on the quality of the character traits we choose to enact. [ 3 ] “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge [ The Bible: American King James Version ] [ 4 ] “Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds, and wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maze of human life, one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue.” [ Buddha ] [ 5 ] “Our virtues and our failings are inseparable, like force and matter. When they separate, man is no more.” [ Nikola Tesla ] Striving for virtue is not enough. We must look within and walk through our learning curves in love and beauty. Solara began studying and practicing classical homeopathy in 1986 and has completed over 500 hours in post-graduate Homeopathic studies with the International College of Homeopathy and Quantum Veritas International University Systems. In addition to a four-year Traditional Oriental Medicine program totaling almost 3,000 hours, she holds a B.A. in Mass Communications and also Literature with a minor in Psychology from the University of North Florida. Getting scanned with the “wowie” machine in Solara Attatharya’s office can reveal where conflicts and stressors exist often before a lab test can. Resolving issues on all levels can restore balance and vitality. Please see ad next page.

Practice What You Teach

by Rayna Tamarin Angeleri Garcia When we’re expecting others to come to us for our services, for our guidance, and for our counsel, it’s imperative that we Practice What We Teach.

W

When another comes to us who truly, sincerely needs our help in one form or another, consistency is absolutely key to our leading by example. If we don’t follow our own guidance, we won’t attract the respect of others because we lack respect for ourselves. If we cannot treat ourselves in the way we suggest others to treat themselves; if we don’t follow the path we suggest others to walk, then we aren’t the one to lead others. Somewhere along the road there will be confusion and it can be to the detriment of the one who came to the teacher seeking guidance. In such a case what the seeker has given to his teacher in return for guidance and is then led astray results in an exchange (of money, time and energy spent) that is left imbalanced and in karmic debt. Teachers aren’t perfect. They must have had experience in order to relate to those who come to them, so a teacher’s past experience will gain him or her the credentials to assist another through the process of navigating similar experiences. Teachers’ pasts make up the foundation of who they are now and who they will become, however if right now the teacher is teaching

beyond his own experience, even a piece of paper signed and sealed will not earn him the credentials to lead or teach another. Whatever is learned must have first been applied and integrated into the life of the teacher. If the teacher has no personal and direct experience of what she is teaching, then there is a complete disconnect and a student or client will have to go beyond the teacher’s understanding if the student truly wants to learn. In such a case the student or client will no longer be needing the services of the teacher. When opening a facility, a firm, an establishment or practice of any kind, it is most vital to stay with the initial vision (ever-evolving), and follow one’s own advice that brought us to teach or lead others–to stay with the initial vision of what we came to share. If we design our vision around the desires of others, how are we to help them surpass their present state of being? If we’re to be a voice of change, a voice of reason, the voice of a new era in the present day, then we must speak up, be heard, and not waiver from our lesson plan. Until teachers have the words to preach, silence, listening, meditation and practiced life experience is the teacher’s teacher. Make a New Beginning and Discover the Master Within by Irene Wertley and Angela Maraboli As we come into this age of enlightenment we may find ourselves in a state of confusion as well as transition. For this reason, it is becoming more and more essential to go deep within ourselves to find our own strength, power and truth. <<<<< We must all become the master within. >>>>> Seeing the need for this in our own lives we have embarked on many journeys, expanding our minds and opening our hearts to the divine love and guidance of the universe. We found that all the answers we seek are within ourselves, we just have to know what questions to ask. Through this realization and practical application of age old techniques for ourselves, we found healing and abundance begin to flow in our own lives and as the light within us grows the desire to share it grows as well. Our intention for our New Beginnings Holistic Retreat December 27 to 29 at O’Leno State Park in High Springs is not for our guests to sit on yoga mats to take notes and absorb information. We want you to experience the flow of vibrational energy within yourselves. We don’t just want to tell you that you have power. We want each of you to experience and discover it for yourselves. It is important that every person on our planet learns to thrive and live an abundant life so that the earth can once again vibrate its divine tone, so that its sound will again resonate harmoniously in the symphony of the universe. A new beginning is in the grasp of us all. The vibration of the world is shifting and we all must shift and align with each other. So that we may live an inspired life, we must inspire each other. This retreat was inspired over a year ago when we both felt a need to harness the vitality that flows through the universe, us and mother earth. Planning just the right journeys and finding a destination with its own magical healing properties came together with a spark of passion when we discovered the majesty of the Santa Fe River and O’Leno Park. We knew instantly on walking through its enchanted trails that this was where we could detach from the busy world and cross over the bridges of consciousness. To attend our New Beginnings Holistic Retreat to make your own new beginning December 27 to 29, please refer to our ad, top of next column. Velocity Magazine VIRTUE | November • December 2013

Get Back in the Game!

Wagner Chiropractic’s Roots an Enormous Benefit for Patients Today

RAMAH

by Ramah Wagner, D. C., Contributing Health Editor

WHERE It All Began

During my youth my family would travel from cold and wintry Iowa to sunny Florida. One day, at just 13 years, as I skipped down the old brick streets of St. Augustine, I had an instant knowing that I would grow up to become a chiropractor and live in Florida. After finishing high school, I progressed faithfully through nine plus years of college. Then I drove my Honda to Florida and took, at the time, one of the most difficult state board examinations in the nation and passed with flying colors. Granted access to living my childhood dream, I realized it had just begun.

WHAT We Have to Offer People

After working under several doctors, I felt ready to set up my own practice. One doctor had me seeing 70 patients in an eight-hour day. I rued the fact that I did not get to talk to the patients. That bothered me deeply. This grievance propelled me to make education one of the main aspects of my clinical practice routine. This experience taught me that I needed to focus not on what makes us different from others but WHAT we offer that people really need. As nervous system doctors, not spinal or back doctors, chiropractors are tapping into energy of the human body. Too much energy can cause pain and inflammation; too little results in no power. My father had a successful practice because, on each and every visit, he would check the patient’s spinal pattern and perform what he called a 20-Point Inspection. Seeing patients who came back to him an average of over 60 visits each made me realize he must be doing something valuable. This epiphany inspired me to learn his technique and follow it. As I practiced Dr. Wagner’s technique it yielded great results in decreasing pain and keeping my patients feeling great.

toxins and emotional stress brought the body’s energy down. My grandfather developed techniques to deal with these disease mechanisms. Because there was no science (like laboratory testing) to back it up, he died with his dream still in him. I realized my heritage and diligently continue to work on bringing the highest level of energy to my patients. This is why we often talk with and test our patients for specific nutritional deficiencies and deal with energy crises in the body. We have found patients smoke to get more energy, eat more poorly for more energy and often are coming to our clinic to get rid of pain, but are actually really looking for more energy.

WHY We are So Passionate

We believe that everyone has a dream. Maybe your dream is to run your own business or maybe it’s to be a beautiful and in-shape wife and mother or maybe you are in the healing arts like we are and the work is burning you out. Maybe your life is doing what it is doing to most people–aging you and as a result, you’re losing your power and passion. Our job is to get you back in the game. Those that come to us and attend our workshops have a higher quality of life, more passion and more energy. If you are like many other patients we see, you are beginning to have constant stresses that take a toll on your health. We at Wagner Chiropractic have found ways to help you bounce back with youth, vigor and more energy. We have also taken great pay cuts to make it affordable to everyone. The question is: Are you finally ready to bounce back? Call Dr. Ramah’s office at 352-589-5443 for a natural health consult with a doctor. Ramah Wagner, D.C. is a third generation alternative health doctor. She graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in Iowa, where chiropractic was first discovered in 1895. Her clinic is located outside Orlando, Florida, where she works with cutting edge technology in the alternative healing arts, including chiropractic, specific nutrition, detoxification of heavy metals, and acupuncture. Become E an Earth Healer

very one of us has the ability to become an Earth Healer. A healer is simply someone who brings transformative light to any situation or being, including herself. When I commit to healing my own little corner of the world—in other words, when I commit to removing any barriers to the expression and experience of divine love in my being and in my life—I become a healer. When I do this with an awareness and intention of allowing great change to ripple out into the world, I become an Earth Healer. An important quality for an Earth Healer to embrace is willingness. Willingness is the most important step in creating positive change in my life. It is the first step in embracing transformative love. For example, if I can find the willingness to forgive, forgiveness is possible. I may have found it very difficult to forgive my parents for what I perceive as mistakes or unloving actions in my upbringing. If I can search within and become willing to forgive them, I find that Creator, the energy of love in the world, will carry me the rest of the way into the unburdening miracle of forgiveness. It can seem like a huge and difficult challenge to forgive someone who we think has wronged us. It is a smaller leap to become willing to forgive. Time and time again, I experience for myself the flow of becoming willing and then having deeply rooted pain lifted from my life. Time and time again, I witness this flow in the lives of others.

by Rev. Sunemaura O’Brien

It can seem like an insurmountable problem to change a thought pattern or habitual behavior when I am dwelling on the need to change, however if I can transform my desire to change into surrender–willingness to release the thought or behavior–I will often be able to rest in the experience of Grace taking over and removing the block for me.

wanting, feels despairing. Willingness feels peaceful, feels open. Grace is that inexplicable energy that comes directly from the creative energy of love in the universe, what some call God/Goddess/Spirit/Source. It doesn’t matter what we call it or how we define or experience it, if we allow it, this Grace can take our pain, our challenges and our barriers and transform them into experiences and expressions of love and life.

What is the difference between desire and willingness? Desire dwells in need. Desire holds fast to what we don’t want. Desire suffers. Willingness lets go. Willingness rests in possibility. Willingness releases the barriers to change, the barriers to love. Desire feels
