PRESIDENT’S REPORT A very busy meeting today - lots of information packed into one hour. I can assure you it won’t be like that every week as time for fellowship is vitally important. Despite a few initial hiccups on my part, I hope everyone who attended enjoyed the meeting. Many highlights, but Tom Dobeli’s passionate and informative wrap up of the recent working trip to Samoa with Ken Gilchrist and two other Rotarians was a standout. Special thanks to Bryan McMahon for coping with the changes and doing a great job as Sergeant - very few of us escaped some very clever and well thought out fines. I did get some feedback that the Guest Speaker was a little hard to hear from members at the back of the room - we’ll try and get that rectified for next meeting. Welcome of Visitors / Guests
Rick Reid our new Assistant Governor for Goldfields Cluster (member of the Rotary Club of Echuca Moama) accompanied by his wife Vicki were our special guests for today’s meeting. Rick gave a brief introduction of himself, a Rotarian of 7 years and currently the International Director at his Club. Rick works in HR for Fonterra at Echuca and is looking forward to the AG role and getting to know the Bendigo clubs better.

Rosalie reported to me that Val Broad was still in St Vincent’s Hospital (now 5 weeks) - a card from the Club was circulated at today’s meeting passing on our greetings and best wishes which we hope will lift Val’s spirits.

Rebuilding Samoa - Rotarian Tom Dobeli gave a snappy slide presentation on the most recent trip to Samoa - a team of four Tom, Ken, Paul Kirkpatrick and a Rotarian from Flemington which involved some significant works at Asua Primary School. Over 4 1/2 days with the help of local “traddies”, 10 classrooms and a staff room was painted, 22

Patrick gave us his background, being sales and marketing roles in the UK, Australia and a brief stint in Singapore, before purchasing a mortgage broking business in Bendigo some 11 years ago and settling here with his wife Margot (also a recent guest speaker at the Club, General Manager of Bendigo Advertiser). The BBC was formed 4 years ago as an amalgamation of two business groups, the Bendigo Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Central Victorian Business Network with the goal of streamlining and having one business representative body in Bendigo. Question time brought up some interesting points, not least that the name itself Bendigo Business Council may not actually reflect the identity or vision of the business body - could a name change be driven by a Rotary idea!. The abbreviations BBC, also could confuse many in the community.

Mens Health Week Barbecue Thursday September 6th In September The Rotary Club of Bendigo will again be providing a Barbecue for the Mens Health Week function at the Capital theatre.
The format will be similar to previous years however we will be providing a healthier service. Rather than the usual culinary delights of a “fry up” we plan to serve up a healthier option of Chicken and Vegetable wraps.
To this end I’d like to pull together a list of volunteers that can assist in providing this important service. We’ll need people to help with the setting up of the barbecue facility during the day together with the preparation of the food etc. We’ll also need as many budding Masterchefs as possible for the evening to do the actual cooking and serving.

About 7 layer… jeans, skirts, track suit pants,3 coats, 7 scarves, 2 pairs of socks and each pocket was full of goodies and on top of all that was her Student Exchange Blazer with all the treasures she collected which weighed over 5 kilos”
