EDITOR’S REPORT

Well there’s another one and without President Brian (in Mildura on business) it was my turn to step up and help out for the day.

Lots of things happening during this traditional busy time of the year so we added an extra couple just to challenge your calendar.

Guest speaker today was Mandy Cooper who travelled with the Bendigo Youth Choir for their recent trip to the World Choir Games in Cincinnati USA. After raising over $90,000 through their fundraising activities they had 45 people flying off to the USA for the 14 day trip. When they landed in San Francisco they had a short sight seeing tour and even had a kick of the footy in a local park before they headed off on a couple of smaller planes for the trip to Cincinnati.

Guest speaker Mandy Cooper with Chairman Val Broad and Past President Noel Hobley.

On arrival they were warmly welcomed where ever they went and Mandy recollected that they felt like movie stars when their bus pulled into a cathedral for one of the performances. People lined the street trying to get into the performance and the choirs were all cheered off their respective buses.

Unfortunately our own Val Broad was too ill to make the trip but the choir kept in touch over the mobile phone to share the excitement of their three silver medals. In recognising their achievements Mandy explained the amazement of other choirs in the event that this small choir from ‘down under’, that only

We didn’t get to hear from our exchange student Zsofi this week as she had volunteered to go to the airport and welcome the new exchange student arrivals from France. Seems Zsofi was so thrilled to arrive in Australia and be welcomed by the other international exchange students she jumped at the opportunity to return the favour.

Over 7,000 operations have been performed under this initiative, with 153 sponsored directly by this club, changing the lives of the patients and their families to a point that we, in this lucky country, can barely even contemplate.

Party event but we will need more hands for the Bendigo Cup event on Wednesday, October 31. Give Mike Hughes a call so he can finalise his numbers. The organisation is getting better and better and with a few chains to stop people going where ever they wish the job is a very smooth operation.

HEY ROTARIANS How about putting Tuesday, 20th November, in your diary now and plan to take your partners out to dinner with the ladies of Inner Wheel on that night! We would love you to join us at the Schweppes Centre Bistro for a fund-raising effort for our National Project - Cord Blood. It’s simple – all you have to do is dine with us and our combined meal costs are totalled, and the Schweppes Centre returns half the total to our Club as a charitable donation to our cause. We think it’s pretty good – no hard work, just enjoyment and fellowship with friends! Partners of Inner Wheel members have no choice – sorry – you will be going anyway, but the more Rotarians who could join us the better... and ask your friends to come too. You DO have friends don’t you? Now we realise that it will be a Rotary lunch that day as well – we suggest you eat a light one, and splurge on Dinner that night! I’ll be back in touch before then, for another reminder.... you can run, but you can’t hide!! Gwen Rankins, President, Inner Wheel Club of Bendigo
