Mary and jack’s story – A drizzly day. You’ve gone shopping in town. Jack is at home, still cursing the new laptop. Your mobile rings.
“Is that Mary? It’s the Royal Liverpool Hospital. Jack has had a stroke.” You don’t know what to do. Your world has suddenly been
turned upside down.
Reception are expecting you and a nurse takes you to the Stroke Unit. What will you find? Is he just waiting… alone and scared and confused? This is my Jack! He’s there, in his own room. “Sorry for leaving the dog love.” The specialist Stroke Nurse calmly sits and tells you what has happened. “Danny brought him in. We were immediately able to use our new equipment to assess how he is. We are now monitoring him and he is comfortable. We were able to act quickly and expect he can be back home in a few days. Together we can sort out a plan to help you and Jack over the coming months and be sure he keeps his independence.” You hold Jack’s hand. “The dog’s fine love. He’s looking forward to seeing you home.”
