ANNUAL REPORTS ARE, BY DEFINITION, A PARTIAL SNAPSHOT OF A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF AN ORGANIZATION. AND AS ANY DIEHARD FAN OF THE BROADWAY MUSICAL RENT KNOWS AND CANNOT REFERENCE WITHOUT BREAKING INTO SONG, A YEAR IS COMPRISED OF “FIVE-HUNDRED,
TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND, SIX-HUNDRED MINUTES.”
Since 2025 is Rose Community Foundation’s 30th anniversary year, we are obligated to take this mathematical exercise to its predictable conclusion by calculating the 15,768,000 minutes in the Foundation’s first three decades of existence. But what is most important is how we met each of those unique moments and how we will continue to meet the moment — no matter what it may bring — in the years ahead.
While this annual report features highlights and data from 2024, we acknowledge that the passage of time, pace of external change, and magnitude of 2025 headlines begins to make 2024 a distant memory. We also preemptively acknowledge that major external developments may occur between the time this letter and report go to print and when it arrives in your mailbox. Nevertheless, we cannot let this opportunity for reflection and commemoration pass us by as we celebrate the 2024 work of the Foundation and our nonprofit, donor and community partners.
For an organization that prides itself on meeting the moment, 2024 presented unique challenges. The Jewish community — locally and around the world — was reeling from the October 7, 2023, terrorist attack on Israel and the rising antisemitism, Jewish harm and exclusion that was unleashed globally and domestically. The United States was facing a monumental presidential election exacerbating divides across the political spectrum and creating uncertainty across issues and communities. Colorado was beginning to grapple
with a looming budget crisis created, in large part, by its own longstanding fiscal policies, while cities in our region continued to wrestle with housing affordability, health care access and limited resources to assist immigrant newcomers in our community.
Against this backdrop, the organizations and initiatives highlighted in the subsequent pages are but a small sampling of the work the Foundation and its donors, fundholders and giving circles supported last year, reflecting the enduring power of community. In 2024, the Foundation’s grantmaking a combination of our own discretionary grant dollars in seven-county Metro Denver, statewide grants from the partnership funds we house, and the giving of our donor-advised fundholders locally, nationally and beyond totaled more than $31 million.
That philanthropy and the Foundation’s work in general is largely fueled by our investments. Committed to optimizing investment returns for the Foundation and its fundholders while enhancing the impact of our invested capital and alignment between our investments, mission and values, the Foundation launched a nationwide RFP for investment services that culminated in the 2024 selection of and transition to Cambridge Associates as our new Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO).
As a community foundation, we can take positions on legislation and ballot measures a powerful tool both for systemic change and unlocking vital resources for community needs. In 2024, we leaned in early and significantly to support the successful passage of Colorado’s Freedom to Marry ballot measure, securing marriage

equality statewide; the passage of Amendment 79, enshrining the right to abortion in Colorado’s state constitution and improving access to comprehensive reproductive health care, and Denver Health’s ballot measure bolstering the financial sustainability of the vital services it provides.
Collaboration is critical to our work, and in 2024, we added some innovative new partnerships to our existing roster. From sponsoring and co-creating a philanthropy patch and curriculum with Girl Scouts of Colorado to amplifying the stories and positive contributions of our immigrant neighbors by underwriting PBS 12’s “Humanize” series to partnering with peer funders to launch the Colorado Safe Futures Fund aiming to address the root causes of firearm-related injury and death in our state through a public health lens, we are grateful for the opportunities these endeavors continue to create.
In 2024, our donor-advised fundholders were invited to learn about the Colorado Safe Futures Fund, the workforce-development landscape, and the civic engagement ecosystem through our annual donor learning and engagement series. We experienced an 18 percent increase in grants from our donor-advised fundholders, reflecting a 24 percent payout rate (much higher than the 5 percent minimum payout the IRS requires of private foundations), and we are proud that 62 percent of the $10.2 million in donor-advised grants went to organizations in the seven-county Greater Denver region.
Nonprofit fundholders chose to take $1.87 million in distributions in 2024 to support their work, and 60 of our nonprofit fundholders participated in our endowment-building pathway programs that provide cohort-based training, mentorship and financial incentives in the pursuit of long-term sustainability.
Our four giving circles granted a combined $211,500 to 15 organizations working in youth homelessness, climate justice, economic opportunity and mental health, which included $60K in contributions from giving circle participants. In support of organizations serving our immigrant neighbors, we continued to raise money for — and deploy grants from — the Newcomers Fund, which in 2024 alone, raised $2.8M from nearly 2,500 gifts.
We are proud of our 30-year history and our 2024 milestones, and we look forward to sharing data and stories from 2025. But looking backward is never our primary focus. With our 30th Anniversary Endowment Campaign to help sustain and grow our work and strategic plan refresh process currently underway informed by our founding values, community insights and Greater Denver’s evolving needs, Rose Community Foundation is firmly focused on the future and the unique moments we will be called upon to meet in the years and decades ahead.
We can’t predict every future challenge or opportunity our community will face, nor can philanthropy fill every gap or solve every problem. But we know who we are, and we know what endures. And we know that — with compassion, courage, and shared purpose — we will continue to meet the moment, together.
With hope and gratitude,

BUILDING A MORE INCLUSIVE DEMOCRACY
Rose Community Foundation’s origin is rooted in health care, and while the Foundation invests in a wide range of issues, few organizations intersect with as many as Denver Health. As the only health system in the region that treats all patients regardless of income, race, gender identity, immigration status or ability to pay, Denver Health puts equitable access to high-quality care at the center of its mission. “Rose Community Foundation’s support for 2Q uniquely amplified the importance of strengthening the health of our entire community by helping Denver Health become more sustainable,” said Donna Lynne, Denver Health CEO. “Beyond the gift, we are especially grateful that Lindy so graciously lent her voice and stood up publicly to encourage the community to recognize the measure was about so much more than our health system.” Lent highlighted Denver Health’s regional impact at a 2024 press conference launching the campaign for Ballot Measure 2Q, an initiative to help close the Denver Health budget gap, strongly aligned with the Foundation’s commitment to health equity and inclusion. The Foundation supported this measure and contributed to the campaign, joining this successful community-wide effort to ensure every Denver resident can access the care they need.
Legislation Inside (LI), an initiative of The Korey Wise Innocence Project, is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves a voice in shaping the laws that affect their lives, including people incarcerated in Colorado state prisons. LI brings the lived experiences of incarcerated individuals into the heart of policymaking — equipping them to engage with, draft and propose legislation aimed at reducing mass incarceration and advancing justice for the wrongfully convicted. “Through our partnership with Rose Community Foundation, we’ve deepened our work with these incarcerated individuals such that they can engage directly in the legislative process,” says Jeanne Segil, staff attorney for the Korey Wise Innocence Project. “Legislation Inside serves as a powerful reminder that policy change is strongest when it includes those most affected.”

For decades, Rose Community Foundation has invested in improved health policies and access to comprehensive reproductive health care in Colorado. In 2024, the Foundation proudly supported Amendment 79 — a constitutional measure designed to protect the right to abortion access. Early in the campaign, the Foundation contributed funding, issued a formal endorsement of the measure, and co-hosted a donor-learning event to foster greater understanding of the initiative and encourage broader philanthropic engagement. The campaign was led by the Colorado Reproductive Health, Rights and Justice Coalition, an alliance of Colorado nonprofits with a shared commitment to reproductive justice.
Broad public access to fair and accurate local news is essential to a healthy democracy, keeping communities informed and engaged while holding those in power accountable. Colorado Media Project (CMP) , fiscally sponsored by Rose Community Foundation, serves as a catalyst, funder and advocate for innovations that bolster Colorado’s local news ecosystem. In 2024, CMP became the home of Press Forward Colorado, a local chapter of a nationwide initiative to revitalize local news and strengthen democracy, connecting Colorado to a broader network for shared learning and capacity building. “Access to trusted information is power,” says CMP Director Kimberly Spencer. “Communities without reliable news and information are often excluded from decisions that shape their lives. Ensuring all Coloradans, especially those with limited access to quality news, have the information they need isn’t just about journalism; it’s about civic power and representation.”

Grounded in the belief that every young person — of all socioeconomic statuses, ethnicities and religions — deserves equitable opportunities for growth and success, Sun Valley Youth Center (SVYC) empowers youth and their families in the Sun Valley neighborhood to reach their full potential and plays a vital role in local advocacy. SVYC is regularly invited to speak with Denver City Council to inform council members of changes in the neighborhood, accompanied by local youth who speak directly to the needs of their community, and support from Rose Community Foundation helps make the students’ preparation for — and transportation to — civic meetings possible. “We are hoping to activate all of our new community members as well as reconnect with older members returning to the community, and we look forward to being a resource for connectivity and engagement,” says Kris Rollerson, executive director.

CONNECTING COMMUNITY WITH OPPORTUNITY
Rose Community Foundation has long championed initiatives that strengthen Greater Denver’s immigrant and refugee communities. In 2024, in addition to grantmaking from the Newcomers Fund and Refugee Integration Fund that it houses, the Foundation invested an additional $750,000 in grants to 25 organizations dedicated to promoting inclusion, belonging and the integration of immigrant and refugee communities. One of these grantees, Teach by Tech, empowers adult refugee and immigrant English learners through workforce training and digital access initiatives. Foundation funding helped advance an employment initiative for new immigrants, providing job training, digital-literacy education and workforce-development resources to help break down barriers to sustainable employment. “With this support, Teach by Tech launched our new Construction Pathways program for adult newcomers,” says Linni Pawlek, executive director. “Students have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized training and OSHA 10 certification, gaining the skills and credentials needed for meaningful employment in construction. Together, we are bridging the digital divide and opening new opportunities for the communities we serve.”
Colorado Equitable Economic Mobility Initiative (CEEMI) is dedicated to building a Colorado where every person can access affordable, high-quality education and job training that leads to meaningful work. Their efforts bring together advocacy and cross-sector collaboration to remove barriers and expand economic opportunity. With support from Rose Community Foundation and other funders, CEEMI convened discussions in 2024 between learners, frontline workforce training providers and key policymakers to drive meaningful reform. Last year’s legislative achievements included Governor Jared Polis’ signature on two bipartisan bills championed by CEEMI. HB 1365 extended the Opportunity Now grant program, a statewide initiative driving change in Colorado’s workforce through collaboration between Colorado’s secondary, post-secondary and workforce ecosystems. The bill also included a CEEMI-drafted amendment prioritizing evidence-based education programs that demonstrate strong results; and HB 1364, which established a centralized data system to better track learner outcomes over time. “We’ve unlocked Colorado wage data to measure outcomes across job-training pathways, and we’ve helped enact and implement legislation that better aligns public dollars with evidence of impact,” says founder and CEO Roger Low. “We will continue to fight for a more equitable system that empowers all Colorado learners to thrive.”
Struggle of Love Foundation has served the Montbello and Aurora area for more than 20 years. With deep roots and a responsive approach, Struggle of Love’s team identifies and addresses the community’s most urgent needs, providing vital support in youth development, violence prevention, mental health and food security for underserved populations. “Our partnership with Rose Community Foundation has been powerful in advancing our mission to serve youth and families across the Denver community,” says LaKeisha Hodge, founder and executive director. “This investment has empowered us to broaden our reach and deepen our impact — especially as we prepare to launch the new Love Center, a permanent home that will allow us to deliver even more comprehensive programs and support services.”
Within the Jewish community, the costs of enrolling children in programs that nurture a positive and inclusive Jewish identity can be a barrier for some Greater Denver families. Rather than allow limited resources to restrict access to experiences that help young people build meaningful and lasting connections to Judaism, Jewish Interest Free Loan (JIFL) of Colorado provides families, that otherwise may not be able to do so, with interest-free loans to enroll their children in Jewish activities. Rose Community Foundation proudly supported JIFL’s inaugural effort — laying the groundwork for future initiatives to help economically-challenged Jewish families across Colorado. “Being able to support Jewish families who want to send their children to Jewish activities such as camp, early childhood education, day school, B’not Mitzvah training and more is a mitzvah to the Colorado community,” said Lorie Klumb, executive director.
Rocky Mountain Employee Ownership Center is advancing a more just and sustainable economy by expanding employee ownership across Colorado. In 2024, the organization seeded a new initiative, Drivers Cooperative Colorado — a rideshare platform that empowers its drivers through cooperative ownership, improving working conditions and building collaboration. “The broader community will benefit from a locally based rideshare company that doesn’t extract profits from the community, but circulates them locally,” says Executive Director Minsun Ji. Rooted in equity, the initiative serves marginalized communities — including individuals with different abilities, people experiencing homelessness, formerly incarcerated individuals and refugees — ensuring access to reliable transportation and dignified, community-driven employment. “It’s more than a company; it’s a story of change. It’s the story of over 500 member-owners united in their pursuit of better pay, dignity and a voice in their work.”

OPENING DOORS TO BELONGING
From rural communities to urban centers and suburban neighborhoods, the impact of firearm-related injuries and deaths is felt across Colorado. With firearms now the third leading cause of adult death — and the leading cause of death among children and teens — the need for meaningful, data-driven solutions has never been more urgent. In response, Rose Community Foundation joined forces with funders statewide to launch the Colorado Safe Futures Fund. This bold, collaborative initiative is grounded in a public health approach to preventing firearm-related harm, with goals to equip communities with the data, resources and capacity they need to create meaningful change. In 2024, funding supported a statewide roundtable on the issue. The multi-day conference brought together diverse communities and approaches to address firearm harm, whether in intimate partner violence, community violence, suicide, mass casualties, or accidental injury and death. “We hadn’t previously approached gun-related harm as a public health issue,” said Michaelle Smith, executive director of the Rocky Mountain Health Foundation, a Colorado Safe Futures Fund founding partner. “By coming together as a collaborative, we’re able to elevate this as a priority and support creative, community-led solutions. We’re excited to fund projects that reflect what residents believe will make their own communities safer.”
Education remains a powerful pathway for empowering youth furthest from opportunity, and enrichment programs beyond the classroom can significantly impact both short- and long-term outcomes. In 2024, Rose Community Foundation awarded $525,000 to 19 organizations offering youth-focused programs outside of traditional school settings. These initiatives foster academic enrichment, promote community safety and belonging, and connect young people to career pathways. Many grantees intentionally engage historically underserved communities, creating safe, inclusive spaces for learning and growth. One organization, Homies Unidos Denver, works to end violence and promote peace through gang prevention, human rights advocacy, and youth empowerment. Their year-round programming includes character development, healing circles, mentoring, recreational activities and social outings for youth ages 10 to 24. “By encouraging open dialogue and understanding, we help young people build resilience and strengthen their relationships, creating a foundation for violence prevention and positive community engagement,” says Gerardo Lopez, executive director. “With support from Rose Community Foundation, our work continues to grow and make a profound impact in our community.”
In addition to supporting our region’s diverse community at large, Rose Community Foundation is proud to honor its roots and values by also supporting Greater Denver’s vibrant Jewish nonprofit ecosystem. In the wake of the October 7, 2023 attack in Israel and the subsequent increase in antisemitic incidents domestically, support for our regional Jewish community has been more important than ever. Rose Community Foundation has long supported programs housed at JEWISHcolorado, including Jewish Student Connection, school-based clubs for Jewish students and their allies. Also supported in 2024 was the Colorado Regional Safety and Security Initiative, part of the national Secure Community Network to enhance the safety of North American Jewish institutions, organizations and communities. The foundation last year also added support for the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), a longtime policy advocate that is playing a critical role in combatting postOctober 7 antisemitism locally. “Since October 7, 2023, there’s been both an urgent need and strong desire to advocate for the Jewish community,” says Brandon Rattiner, senior director of the JCRC. “Rose’s support allowed us to double our staff, expand our programming, and meet the moment.”
Rose Community Foundation celebrates the diversity within the Jewish community and supports organizations and programs fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion for Jews of all backgrounds. Ammud: The Jews of Color Torah Academy cultivates a community where Jewish people of color can bring their full selves to Jewish learning and Torah. Through its affirming and educational programming, Ammud nurtures leadership and celebrates identity. “Our partnership is an investment in building an inclusive ecosystem in the Greater Denver and Boulder regions — one that honors the full racial and ethnic diversity of our Jewish people through programming rooted in belonging, Torah, and celebration,” says Alexandra Corwin, executive director of Ammud. Another first-time grantee, Jewtina y Co uplifts Latin-Jewish identity, leadership and resiliency. In 2024, the organization gathered data, engaged the community and connected with partners to better understand the needs of Latin Jews and Jews of Color statewide. “We are working towards a world in which the global Jewish and Latin communities collaborate to build bridges and celebrate our shared narratives,” says Analucía Lopezrevoredo, founder and executive director.

EMPOWERING GENEROSITY
Philanthropy has the power to unite people and organizations across diverse faith traditions, highlighting shared values and a collective commitment to humanity. In 2024, Rose Community Foundation and Montview Presbyterian Church formed a philanthropic partnership focused on amplifying impact. Montview’s Mission Life Committee invited the Foundation to consult on its international grantmaking from their Mission Impact Fund — a donor-advised fund they opened at Rose Community Foundation. Montview Presbyterian Church ultimately awarded $400,000 in transformative grants to three international organizations, supporting initiatives that positively impact children, families and some of the world’s most marginalized communities. “It was clear we could benefit from the assistance of an organization experienced in managing larger sums of money on a regular basis,” said Montview’s Mission Life Coordinator, Jennifer Seward. “Rose Community Foundation stood out because of their alignment with many of the things Montview holds dear — not just from a faith-based perspective but also from a social justice and community-based perspective.”
Philanthropy takes many forms, and Generation Now Circle — one of Rose Community Foundation’s giving circles — embodies the power of collaborative giving. Generation Now convenes a diverse group of young professionals ages 25 to 40 to explore community issues, identify shared values and work together to drive meaningful change. The 2024 cohort focused its grantmaking on climate justice, funding efforts that educate, mitigate and prevent the impacts of climate change on the region’s most vulnerable communities. Together, they awarded more than $55,000 to four organizations making a difference on the ground: Black Parents United Foundation, Re:Vision, Radian, and The Park People. By joining forces, Generation Now Circle members amplified their individual giving, supporting environmental equity and community resilience.
Rose Women’s Circle (RWC) brings together a diverse, multigenerational group of women to engage in collaborative philanthropy and advance gender equity across Greater Denver. In 2024, the RWC cohort focused its grantmaking on belonging and empowerment through wellness and healing, granting more than $50,000 to four organizations. “Through Rose Women’s Circle, I found organizations that aligned with my values: women supporting women and shaping the future for girls,” says Marlene Price, donor-advised fundholder and RWC member. “As a retired rocket scientist, it was powerful to connect with groups working to break down the same barriers I once faced in math and science. I was able to connect more with my community and make a greater impact than I would have alone.”

Early introductions to philanthropy can inspire a lifelong commitment to generosity, foster leadership and build essential skills such as collaboration and financial literacy. That’s why in 2024, Rose Community Foundation collaborated with Girl Scouts of Colorado to create a Philanthropy Patch and corresponding Giving in a Box curriculum designed to introduce middle and high school Girl Scouts to philanthropy. Through this program, participating scouts explored core values, identified community needs and learned the fundamentals of charitable giving. “By learning how to give back to their communities, young people are empowered to grow into compassionate, proactive leaders,” said Girl Scouts of Colorado CEO Leanna Clark.
Rose Community Foundation’s Endowment Building Pathways provide structured curriculum and financial incentives to guide organizations in launching and growing their own endowments — fostering a sustainable Greater Denver nonprofit ecosystem. The three pathways — Launch, Sustain and Growth — meet organizations where they are, providing training, incentives, coaching and peer connection, with more than 61 percent growth of nonprofit fundholders participating in a pathway program. In 2024, the Foundation also created more connections between pathway participants, encouraging members of the Growth Pathway to serve as mentors to Launch Pathway participants beginning their endowment journey. One such pairing connected Launch Pathway member Northglenn Youth Theatre (NYT), with the Boulder Jewish Community Center, a Growth Pathway participant. “It’s empowering to connect with someone who understands your challenges and can offer clarity, insight, or simply a listening ear,” says Michael Stricker, executive producer of Northglenn Arts, which operates NYT.
Impact extends beyond grantmaking — it’s also about cultivating dialogue, learning and connection. In 2024, the Foundation hosted a series of learning and engagement sessions that highlighted the voices and expertise of our grantee partners on key issues and opportunities affecting our community. In 2024, these topics included the abortion-access ballot measure, civic engagement, workforce development, the Colorado Safe Futures Fund and a special session for professional advisors on establishing, preserving and transferring legacies. “I perk up when I receive an invitation to attend a learning session from Rose, particularly if it is a topic that I don’t know much about,” says Rose Community Foundation donor-advised fundholder, Jean Townsend. “I always learn something important, even if I don’t act on it right away. The speakers are brilliantly curated by Rose staff; the moderators are focused and purposeful in guiding the discussions.”
