RCB FUTURE OUTREACH CENTER

The Rotary Club of Batangas, under the imaginative genuine leadership of Genuine Service President Arnel Pulla for Rotary Year 2022-2023, have commenced the construction/erection of the club’s Legacy Project, the “Rotary Outreach Center” located inside Batangas Mega Heights Subd. in Brgy Alangilan, Batangas City. After 7 decades, this long-cherished dream came to fruition with the enormous effort exerted by club members, led by GSP Arnel and the “special project” fundraising committee

First came the lot donation from a revered club member and then the mandatory registration to SEC and BIR. Then came the fundraiser via the club’s 73rd charter anniversary masquerade gala to raise initial funds for the construction.

Rotary Community Corps (RCC)

One of the newer programs in Rotary's panoply of worldwide service activities and projects is the Rotary Community Corps (formerly called Rotary Village Corps - RVC). This new form of grassroots self-help service was initiated by R.I. President M.A.T. Caparas in 1986 as a means of improving the quality of life in neighborhoods and communities. Frequently, there is an abundance of available labor, but no process to mobilize men and women to conduct useful projects of community improvement. The Rotary Community Corps (RCC) is a Rotary club-sponsored group of non-Rotarians who desire to help their own community by conducting specific improvement project. The Rotary members provide the guidance, encouragement, organizational structure, and some of the material assistance for RCC, which in turn contributes the manpower to help their own community. Thus, the Rotary Community Corps provides a totally new process for Rotarians to serve in communities of great need. RCC have been organized mainly in depressed ghetto areas of major cities where groups of individuals need the organizational and managerial skills of Rotarians to undertake valuable self-help community projects.

Lady Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Batangas in the Observance of National Women’s Month / March 1-31, 2023

The observance of International Women’s Day (IWD) was a result of the organizing activities of women in the early 20th Century. Between 1909 and 1911, working women in the United States of America participated in organizing strike activities of the National Women’s Trade Union League and other concerned groups. They were protesting low wages, lack of protective legislation and the very poor working conditions to which women workers were subjected during that time.

The demonstrations were an offshoot of the tragic March 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in New York City, which took the lives of more than 140 working girls, mostly Italian and Jewish immigrants. Subsequently, the inhumane working conditions and other unfair labor practices leading up to the disaster were invoked during observances of InternationalWomen’sDay.

In the Philippines, the Women’s Month Celebration has since served as a venue to highlight women’s achievements and discuss continuing and emerging women’s empowerment and gender equality issues and concerns, challenges, and commitments. The celebration focuses on concrete activities that are aligned with national and international instruments and treaties such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, etc.

Proclamation No, 227 s. 1988, “Providing for the Observance of the Month of March as Women’s Role in History Month” as signed by former President Corazon C. Aquino on March 17, 1988.

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENTIAL MONTHLY MESSAGE March 2023

As we planned for this Rotary year, I could have never "imagined" the breadth of stories we would encounter nor the scope of the people we would meet.

I find oxygen in sharing time with our members — hearing their truths and learning about their personal journeys and their deepest desires for goodness.

And so it was that I encountered two very different men with very similar stories.

One-hundred-year-old Genshitsu Sen is a remarkable human being and a joyful soul. We greeted each other in Kyoto, during my trip to Japan in November, with a hug and an instant connection.

Not only is Sen a former grand master of the Urasenke tea tradition but he is also an active member of the Rotary Club of Kyoto, where he has served as club president. He assisted in the charter of the Rotary Club of Kyoto-South. And he has also served as governor of District 2650 and held leadership roles in Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.

During that same week, I had the great pleasure to record a birthday video for a 100-year-old World War II naval hero who is an exemplary leader and who served two terms as governor of District 5810 in Texas.

Both men are decorated World War II heroes in their respective countries and share unthinkable history. And although they served on opposing sides of the war, their stories are remarkably similar — and they are both honorable men who chose Rotary to carry on lives of peacemaking.

I have been reflecting so much lately that we are all on this planet simply trying to do our best, and we are much more similar than we are different.

I feel incredibly fortunate to share in these stories and to meet such incredible people.

RI Melbourne Convention 2023

The annual Rotary International Convention brings together tens of thousands of Rotarians from all over the world. Members who attend are changed forever by the sense of purpose and belonging in the world's largest movement for humanity's peace and prosperity. Since 1910, the Rotary convention has combined fellowship with Rotary business and inspired attendees with notable guest speakers and entertainers, workshops, and messages from Rotary leaders. On 15 August 1910, Paul Harris convened the first Rotary convention. At the time, there were 16 clubs in the United States and they shared the Rotary name and had similar objectives. In Rotary’s early years, the convention delegates debated and voted on changes to Rotary’s Constitution and Bylaws. As membership and convention attendance grew, this process evolved, and in 1977, the Council on Legislation became Rotary’s legislative body.

Melbourne is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of Victoria, and the second-most populous city in both Australia and Oceania. Its name generally refers to a 9,993 km² (3,858 sq mi) metropolitan area known as Greater Melbourne. The area of Melbourne has been home to Aboriginal Victorians for over 40,000 years. Today, it is a leading financial center in the Asia-Pacific region and ranks 32nd globally. Melbourne Airport, also known as the Tullamarine Airport, is the 2nd busiest airport in Australia, and the Port of Melbourne is the nation's busiest seaport.

To my dear fellow Genuine Service Rotarians,

As we are now nearing the culmination of my Genuine Service term for Rotary Year 2022-2023 with the RI theme, “Imagine Rotary” ; I am thanking each member of the club, who in one way or another, shared their precious time, pledge of commitment and extra effort in attending and actively participating to humanitarian projects and club activities that we accomplished in this post-pandemic period. I am truly blessed and fortunate to have you all by my side in sharing some of our blessings and in doing good to the world, especially to the destitute families in our community. With these, I hope everyone has realized the worthiness and noble importance of serving others to change lives with humility and compassion, and the significance of the meaningful motto of “Service Above Self.” And to all my classmate GSPs and to our District Officers for RY 2022-2023, headed by our beloved Genuine Service District Governor Gina Sy; my deepest appreciation for the usual support and recognition extended to our beloved club.

Rotary Year 2022-2023 was a successful term as we have completed several worthwhile outreach projects in partnership and coordination with several Partners-in-Service and non-Rotary partners, such as the Rotaract Club of Batangas, the Interact Club of Batangas and the RotaKids of Batangas; our local sister clubs; the NGOs and LGUs, both government and private entities; and other local service organizations. I am humbly honored that these civicminded groups became part of our noble objective to serve and give back to the community where we live. I do appreciate all the efforts and generosity of every Service Partner and I will ever treasure it as we continue to make imaginative difference in the world.

With regards to this superb club bulletin, “Ang Kumintang,” aside for being an informative material and eco-friendly newsletter, I think these was created on the belief that by working together, especially the club members, we can achieve our shared goal of serving the less fortunate and together, we helped them make sense in enriching their own lives for the better. With these, I give my hundred percent appreciation to the Editor-in-Chief of our semi-monthly club bulletin, PP Ross Evangelio, and to the Club Bulletin Chair/CICO, PP Jenny Untalan, for their amazing effort in coming up with these e-newsletters and published on time during my term.

Thanks again to all and best regards. Godspeed.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Dear fellow Genuine Service Rotarians,

First, it’s my perennial support and honor to serve our esteemed leader of the Rotary Club of Batangas for Rotary Year 2022-2023, a brother Knights, our beloved Genuine Service President Arnel L. Pulla.

On my personal note, it’s my 9th year to a dedicated editorial task of our club bulletin, aptly called in its old traditional name, “Ang Kumintang”. With the advent of new technology and better online publisher application, we re-created our club bulletin as an e-newsletter to make it eco-friendly thru a paper-less publication. The bulletin publication is a semi-monthly e-ssues published in pdf format in Facebook & Messenger and as flipbook reading material in Issuu publisher. The main objective is to inform the members thru write-ups and action photos of the accomplishment of projects and activities of the club, coupled with it are some important Rotary Information and relevant community articles.

Thanks to our fellow members for their own share of service to the club, as well as their time, wealth, and effort for attending and participating in club’s projects and activities and virtual meetings. And of course, with the hundred percent support of Genuine Service President Arnel Pulla, and to my real-life partner, PP Maria Jenny Untalan as CICO and Club Bulletin Chair… thanks for the love and genuine inspiration.

See you all in the next bulletin issues.
