A Message from Dean Lei I hope you are enjoying the summer! Our preparation for the fall semester is well underway, and I thank all of you who have worked hard on behalf of our students, faculty, business colleagues, and alumni to help us to get ready for the many courses and programs that will be taking place in the coming months. From classes to seminars, conferences and many other events, RBS will be an exciting and busy place to be, even virtually. While we will be mostly remote this coming September, the RBS community remains strong and ready to take on new challenges.

Newsletter Updates & Mission Statement The RBS Staff Newsletter Committee is delighted to announce our mission statement: Inside RBS gives RBS staff a voice by creating a digital community where members can stay informed on current events, policies, and opportunities, while sharing accomplishments, milestones and interests.

Shakira Willoughby-Little Digital Learning Architect

Department: Office of Technology & Instructional Services (OTIS) Years of Service: Rutgers for 5 years, RBS for 11 months Duties: Shakira serves as a consultant and facilitator for the entire online course development process, while also connecting with faculty on training opportunities for current and emerging online learning strategies and technologies. She is able and willing to assist with questions that arise pertaining to pedagogy and technology for courses that include online components, as well as, face-to-face courses.

Hobbies: Shakira enjoys traveling and gardening.

Department: PhD. in Management, Master of Information Technology & Analytics, and Doctorate of Business Administration Years of Service: 19 years in September Duties: Goncalo is responsible for recruitment, admissions, and students services for the PhD and DBA program. He also provides student services to the MITA program.

Hobbies: Goncalo enjoys fishing, bowling, soccer, traveling, cooking, and reading.

If you’re in admissions, learn about student services or alumni relations. If you’re a business manager, talk to and learn from co-workers in corporate outreach or communications. Doctor of Business Administration Program The Doctor of Business Administration Program from Rutgers Business School – Newark and New Brunswick is now a reality! We are admitting our first cohort in Fall 2020.

The Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program is the first of its kind in New Jersey and serves the needs of professionals and academics looking to enhance their skills in applied research. This is a full-time, 60-credit program offered on weekends and evenings allowing students to complete the program in as little as two years. The DBA program is highly selective and complements the curriculum and structure of our existing Ph.D. program. However, unlike the traditional Ph.D. program, the DBA program is designed as a practitioner’s doctoral degree and provides a foundation for implementing theory to real-world business issues.

Free City Parking In response to Coronavirus restrictions to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in New Jersey, restaurants and bars throughout the state remain closed for indoor dining. But many are open for al fresco dining, take-out, curbside pick-up, and delivery service. To encourage residents and patrons to support local businesses, the city of New Brunswick is offering a 15 minute “grace period� at on-street parking meters. To learn more about this program and other creative initiatives to support the community, such as weekend street closures with live entertainment and al fresco dining in downtown New Brunswick, please visit here.

Facilities RBS is Not the Same Without You

The Facilities Team has been working great lengths with the University Institutional Planning & Operations team to ensure your safe return to campus. To ensure best practices, both Newark and New Brunswick Facilities will be sharing a Telecommuting Guide and Return to Rutgers Business School guide as we begin to re-populate the building. If you are planning to visit 100 Rockafeller Road or 1 Washington Park, please contact us at RBS-Facilities@business.rutgers.edu. We welcome all comments, suggestions, and or concerns surrounding your health and safety when on premises.

Returning to Campus: FAQs Will RBS be purchasing masks for employees? Yes, we will be providing reusable face masks for employees working onsite.

What is the status of the air quality and HVAC systems at RBS? No modifications have been made to the HVAC systems at RBS. They are operating normally and will continue to do so. The air filters in the HVAC system are replaced every quarter/90 days and will continue to follow that recurring schedule. If you experience an HVAC problem, please email RBS-Facilities and it will be addressed right away.

Will there be indicators for social distancing?

Tape on the floor to ensure adequate social distancing etc.? Yes, social distancing decals, one way directional arrows, and other COVID-19-related signage will be clearly posted throughout RBS and University properties.

Who is policing/enforcing face masks in RBS buildings and around campus? It is our individual responsibility to follow the protocols established for our own well-being. If someone in your presence is not following social distancing or face mask policies, you may politely request compliance. Or, you can contact your supervisor if you are uncomfortable confronting someone yourself. We hope everyone understands the importance of

these protocols and complies. Feel free to also contact the RBS-Facilities team via email.

What is the safety protocol for kitchenettes, refrigerators, microwaves, coffee stations? Face masks and social distancing applies to all common areas, including kitchenettes. Sanitizing wipes will be provided in all kitchenettes and employees will be encouraged to wipe down all touchable surfaces, for their own protection and as a courtesy to your coworkers.

COVID-19 Health and Safety Awareness Training On August 29th, the Unversity announced a state-mandated COVID-19 training course for all Rutgers employees. All employees regardless of status, location, any previous medical, health, or professional training, are requried to complete the course. The module can be viewed and completed through the following website link: https://rutgersu.percipio.com.

Rutgers Environmental Health and Safety (REHS) is also requiring all faculty, staff and students who are involved in Research activities out of the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED), to take the Return to Research COVID Health and Safety Awareness Training.

As we continue of our efforts in our return back to campus, we are encouraging our employees to complete both trainings, so that we can all entire a safe and healthy working environment.

FERPA Training Ongoing FERPA training sessions are being offered by RBS in preparation for the upcoming semester. The session is September 15th at 1PM. We are encouraging departments that employ course assistants, course graders, etc. to participate in the FERPA workshops. During the training, we will discuss the process for the forms. New Risk Assessment Software Process Software using Rutgers data poses a potential security risk for the university. Before purchasing or using third-party software, the department or unit must follow these steps: 1. Fill out the Rutgers University Third Party Vendor Risk Assessment Intake Form.

2. OIT will review the intake form and respond directly to the vendor with a customized security questionnaire tailored to the particular vendor and software.

3. OIT will await the vendor’s response, certify its completeness, and notify the requesting unit within seven business days whether it has approved the software, denied approval to the software, or asked the vendor follow-up questions.

Remote Hire Procedures As the University continues to operate remotely, HR will be utilizing the remote hire process for making sure I-9s are done within the Department of Homeland Security guidelines.

The Remote Hire feature allows a new employee to remotely complete Section I of their I-9 and have a local outside agent complete Section II on Rutgers’ behalf with the employee in person. This option is only used for employees who will not work on or near one of the University’s three campuses and do not live within a commutable distance during their employment at Rutgers. Our Mini but Mighty Members Melody Brown, daughter of Efi McMillian, Unit Administrator Specialist, graduated from the Urban League of Essex County Early Childhood Center in June, and is excited to begin KIPP SPARK Academy in August. Congratulations, Melody! And happy birthday, too! (August 6th) Congratulations to Dottie Torres, Department Administrator, Supply Chain Management, on the birth her first grandbaby, Camila Valentina Nieves.

Camila was born four weeks early, and turned one month old on August 6th.

Storm Isaias Violent high-winds and heavy rain caused by the passing of storm Isaias resulted in several power outages and fallen trees around our areas, impacting some of our staff working from home. We are happy to report that no staff or faculty members were hurt or drastically affected.

Closing the Gap Cyndi Geborde, Program Coordinator, MBA Student Services, and boyfriend Brett, have been working together on a Community Policing Program. The program outline was prepared by a diverse group of people made up of law enforcement officers and people throughout different communities who are looking to close the gap between the police and the community by creating a program that the public will respond favorably to. “There needs to be more community policing and our residents desperately need to be able to trust and respect the police”. The program will take time to build and implement but the outcome will result in a best in class program that can serve as a guide to every New Jersey city or town. Staff Shared Recipes Shepard’s Pie

By Monnique DeSilva, Administrative Assistant, PhD Program Serves (4+ people)

Ingredients: • 5 lb. bag of potatoes • 1-1/2 lb. ground beef (or whatever ground meat you prefer) • 1 bottle of traditional spaghetti sauce • 1 pack of frozen vegetables (peas, carrot, corn, green beans) • 1 medium onion (chopped) • 1 small green pepper (chopped) • 2 clove garlic (chopped)

• 1 tsp each of dry parsley, thyme, oregano, basil • 1 tsp of salt • 1 tsp of black pepper • 1 tsp of Sazon • 1/2 cup of milk • 1/2 stick of butter • 1/4 cup of cheddar cheese

Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 400F degrees 2. Wash and peel potatoes, quartered and place in a pot of boiling water with salt, cook until fork tender.

3. While the potatoes are cooking, in a medium skillet, brown meat with the following, chopped onion, garlic, green peppers, dry parsley, thyme, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, sazon (season to your taste). Once the meat is brown, add the bottle of spaghetti sauce and the frozen vegetables, stir, cover, and let simmer on low heat for 5 minutes.

4. Drain water and return potatoes to the pot. Add, 1/2 stick of butter and 1/2 cup of milk and mash the potatoes until creamy smooth. Add 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, some dry parsley, and mix. In a large baking dish (9x13) spread some of the mashed potatoes at the bottom and smooth out from corner to corner. Then add the meat mixture on top of the potatoes and cover the meat with the remaining mashed potatoes. Smooth it out and placed in the oven and let bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

5. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes before serving.

RBS Staff Newsletter Remembering Benita Giles It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our dear friend and former colleague, Benita Giles. Benita joined the Rutgers Business School family in December 2016 as Program Coordinator for the Dean’s Office on the Newark campus. Over the next two years, Benita distinguished herself as a skillful administrator, excellent listener, and trusted coworker. Benita’s infectious smile and gentle spirit were enjoyed by all who had the pleasure of working with her at RBS. As the primary caretaker for late husband and father, Benita was also a woman of strong faith and deep family values. Benita will be remembered as a kind, joyful person with a delightful smile that matched her generous heart. Our condolences go out to Benita’s two beautiful daughters, her extended family, and all those who will miss this lovely lady. Rest in peace, Benita.

Very Generous Gifts Proud Alumni have been extending their generosity to Rutgers this summer: 1. Mark (’98 RBSG) and Anne Anquillare contributed $250,000, and John (’84 RC, ’90 RBSG) and Liz Gorman contributed $125,000, to advance the RBS Road to Silicon Valley Program (RSVP). Their support will help launch the RSVP Seed Grant Fund and RSVP Pitch Competition that will provide early-stage start-ups and entrepreneurs with access to seed capital, successful investors and advisors, accelerators, corporate venture capital networks, and a supportive diverse community.

2. Beverly Aisenbrey (’75 DC, ’82 RBSG) made a generous commitment of $100,000 to create the Beverly Aisenbrey Business of Fashion Merit Fellowship for eligible Rutgers alumni who are admitted to the MS in Business of Fashion Program. The fellowship will award $25,000 per year to one graduate student who is admitted to the program. Candidates will be chosen on the basis of academic merit and their ability to demonstrate leadership qualities, specifically in the area of leadership for women.

3. Ken (’07 RBSNB) and Jessica (’08 RC) Miller have committed $50,000 to advance the Road to Wall Street Program in support of our many outstanding students who aspire to become the next generation of leaders in the financial industry.

4. Nan (’92 RBSNB) and Paul Okarma have made a commitment of $50,000 for the Road to CPA Program that we plan to launch later this year. The Nan and Paul Okarma Scholarship will support scholarship awards for students who are enrolled in this new Road to Success program at RBS.

We Are All in This Together The world is different today than it was just a few months ago. COVID-19 has swept across our world, our nation, and our RBS campuses. Uncertainty is at an all-time high, as we experience disruptions to our work, our school, and our home lives. Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) has extended their volunteer network of mental health support for our community coping with COVID-19.

Rutgers Family Support Line. In response to the unprecedented challenges of COVID-19, Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) launched a confidential staff, faculty, and family support line: Rutgers4U (1-855-652-6819). This phone line offers emotional and therapeutic support during (and following) the COVID-19 pandemic and is available free of charge to all Rutgers staff, faculty members, and their families. The Rutgers4U support line is operational Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 8:00PM, seven days a week, as staffing permits.

During the off-hours a voicemail box enables callers to leave their contact information for a follow up the next morning. For more information, visit the UBHC website.

Virtual Workshops by CAPS (Counseling, Alcohol and Other Drug Assistance Program & Psychiatric Services). No registration is necessary. RBS Innovation Challenge The RBS Innovation Challenge for August 2020 is “Reducing Costs at RBS�. For example, do you know of a cost-competitive quality vendor we should consider? Where might we reduce costs without sacrificing quality? Are there technologies with demonstrable cost-savings that we can adapt? Are there activities we can bring in-house and handle effectively? Please submit your ideas by September 1.

Process: 1. The RBS Innovation Challenges are open to all RBS faculty and staff.

2. Simply summarize your innovative idea in 1-2 paragraphs in an email. Reference materials may be attached; however, the body of the email should be self-sufficient to convey the idea. One idea per email, please.
