HOUSING DESIGN

SKILLS

Mass housing design, also known as social housing or affordable housing, focuses on creating efficient and cost-effective housing solutions for large populations. It emphasizes standardization, modularity, and shared amenities to maximize space and resources.

These designs often incorporate sustainable features and prioritize accessibility for people with disabilities. While mass housing can be criticized for its potential lack of individuality, it plays a crucial role in providing affordable and safe housing for individuals and families, especially in urban areas with high housing demand..

[Ar & de]

“[ar&de] is a award-winning practice led by principal architect Ar. Aabid Raheem.Studio engages in the research, design and promotion of quality spaces and objects of various types and scales.

The firm was founded in 2013 and since its inception has undertaken projects such as masterplans, industries, hospitals, institutions, commercial enterprises and workplaces, individual and group residential projects, environmental graphics and products. At the heart of its work, is the understanding that design has tremendous implications on the personal and social life, functioning, performance, quality of life, interpersonal relationships and future of the individuals & organizations it designs for. Every project is invested with a great deal of rigor in thought and effort.”

[Ar & De] Firm :-

Ar & De firm unique compared to other firm in the way of

- Process

- Project handling method

- Connecting to people with values [How to running a firm? ,Office life and real life ]

- Method of unique way of detailing in design

Process

The method of doing every design if its factory project ,hospital project ,residential project, institution project etc same but the typology will change according to the design . So the process will be even if its a detailed part of a space doing different kind of options in the same part will reflect every design of this firm . For an example :

I have learned optional method through

In case of Impex factory design,Aliya group institutional project

Options of multipurpose room whole space with proper ventilation and Lighting

In case of MMC project

Detailed options

From doing these options i can use this method every designs .And also learned a space can reflect may many character for giving each option . So optional method given me good insight

Project handling method

As compared to other firm Ar & De has no project management unit ,Drafts man unit etc

But the firm handling every project correctly and smooth .Because here every one doing every job other than an architect .So every one is an architect ,project manager ,draftsmen etc . So everyone knows about the every part of all project thats because everyone doing everything

Connecting to people with value

In Ar & De everyone is equal .Even principal Architect Abid Raheem treating as a friend. There is have space for everyone voice, ideas and solution. Abid Raheem’s philosophy was “Every one are unique .There are lot of things to learn from each one of you.”So we can open up with everyone in the firm .And also another thing he says “ A good discussion will happen in dining table of the family .So Ar & De is an family we can also discuss at the time of lunch”For this reason Ar & De doesn’t have any ego or gap between the members

I have learned many life lesson and professional lesson from the dining table of Ar&De don’t know how many firm doing this .This is one of the best thing learned to connecting to people with values at Ar & De in real life and office life

Method of unique way of detailing in design

In the case design Ar & De always doing unique way of detailing other than normal . For en example :

Placement of the ventilations

The windows placing in order to light get maximum at required area .So for that changing the lintel and sill height get more solution other than placing in standard .This is very rare in other kind of firms

PANTHALI - WHERE PASSION MEETS PLAY

Malappuram’s enduring passion for football, blending the global and local essence of the sport.

Football in Malappuram is more than just a game—it’s a way of life that transcends age, status, and geography.

The composition connects international icons like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi with the raw, unfiltered joy of local players, symbolizing the universal love for the sport while highlighting the deep cultural roots it has in Kerala. The inclusion of barefoot children and players muddying themselves on the field illustrates the region’s unique football culture, where the game is embraced in its purest form, no matter the conditions.

Football is not only a sport but a symbol of community, resilience, and passion.

Extraordinary relationship between football and the people, where every match—whether on world stages or local grounds—is a testament to the region’s love for the beautiful game.

HISTORY

“PANTHALI”

belongs to the local form of football played in Malappuram.

India first witnessed football as a colonial product. One of the primary effects of British rule, football first appeared in Kerala in the last decades of the nineteenth century.

In contrast to other regions of Kerala, Malabar experienced the game’s remarkable and rapid expansion. It has served as football’s birthplace.

In the beginning people played football as they liked using crude balls on rough grounds. The earliest football was Kettupanthu, a handmade one.

This was made of hay, sack, cloth and the like materials. All these would be folded into a sphere like thing and used as ball. Even now village boys who can’t afford to purchase a ball, prepare it in the same manner. They played bare footed as boots were luxury in those days.

Sevens is an indigenous football game of Malappuram/Eranadu. Originated and developed at Malappuram, it continues to be the most important and popular pastime of the region. It is interesting to note that there are about 120 sevens tournaments held annually in Malappuram.

The uproar of sevens fills the football grounds of each and every village ofMalappuram throughout summer season.

Post-harvest paddy fields will turn in to grounds forsevens. It will continue up to the rainy season. Even during heavy down pour sevens will be played.

Where Passion Meets Play
PANTHALI [ THESIS ]

CHALLENGES

PANTHALI [ THESIS ]

Considering its 1.2 billion-strong population, it is disappointing to see India ranked at the very bottom of the FIFA World rankings.

India’s football industry has come a long way in the last ten years, and the 2013 debut of the Indian Super League marked a sea change in the sport’s history.

The future of Indian football is bright, with an ever-growing fan base, foreign players improving the quality of play, investment in the sport, and interest from international clubs.

Is this sufficient, though?

Current Challenges:

Even with a stadium and grass, player development suffers by the lack of a well-designed training area. The foundation of this effort, grassroots academies, are underequipped with appropriate complex training facilities.

This limits the amount of resources that may be made available to players so they can improve their abilities and advance to new levels. Also, competitions that only use temporary medical personnel put participants’ safety at risk. Adequate infrastructure needs to offer emergency medical care as well as special injury rehabilitation centers

Even if Indian football has seen many great advances, one area has to remain the constant focus: encouraging grassroots football and implementing a solid nation-wide strategy to attract kids to practice and play may truly transform the game. Limited Training Facilities and infrastructure:

DESIGN PROCESS

Current condition of Site :

In site there is already have stadium called Malappuram District Stadium And two contour Level with 4 m .Stadium located in top most level.

Conversion of need in to spaces

generating space by considering the enhancements required for football development

The “Current condition of Site” section suggests that there is already a stadium in the area, but it may not be adequate for the proposed development. The “Conversion of need in to spaces” section indicates that the goal is to create a space that meets the requirements for football development. The sketches show a variety of ideas for the design, including a large stadium with seating, a training field, and possibly some ancillary facilities. The “Detail level” section provides more specific details about certain elements of the design, such as the seating arrangement and the surrounding landscape.

Training level formation process

Training field 1 [River or Beach sand pitch spaces ]

In the beginning, residents started taking inspiration from the British. The football is the best example. For the British, football is just a time pass, but for the locals in the Malabar region, it has become a part of their life. They progress from watching the game to creating their own football out of cloth and sacks over time. They began playing in sand-filled, semi-muddy regions by rivers in an effort to lessen injuries and all.

Unlike the other pitches near the river, the sand makes it extremely tough to kick a ball. However, with continued practice, leg strength will improve in accordance with the sand play.

This local grounded playing culture making to part of proffessional training will more strength and stamina to the players

PANTHALI [ THESIS ]

Training field 2 [Sevens mud pitch spaces ] -[Malappuram local football form ] PANTHALI [ THESIS ]

Malabar football’s major identity is the sevens tournament. During a local sevens match, people connect regardless of age or gender. FIFA standards state that the standards in sevens pitch are quite low, much different from international norms.

However, in that densely populated area with little time, players’ mind, strength, and stamina made them more adept at performing in front of thousands of spectators. Thus, that kind of play can help players raise their overall game on international fields and everywhere else.

This idea making in to the design by creating space as muddy and sevens pitches as a part of training .so from starting with the sand level training to upgrading with sevens pitch like growing a child from prone to kneeling

And malappuram people knows about the importence of sevens and all so that can be attracting element to come the spaces by making sevens tournaments in regular interval of the training time

Training field 3 and 4 [Futsal or Matt pitch spaces and Normal Grass pitches ]

The gradual transition from rough to smooth pitches in football is made possible by a methodical training program at the grassroots level.Futsal training pitches are created by using a matt surface for the training pitch. Less than the international standard are the measurements and standards.

The players’ advanced level of control and speed in short amounts of time and space due to the smooth surface gives them greater strength in international pitches with broad spaces and large time spans.

Through all 3 levels of training players will reaches the normal grass pitch level .But the standerds are still different from international level for getting sharpness mind of time and spaces to the players

By making 2 kind of grass pitches field one for traing and north side pitches for public turf .For local people can easly access to the space evenging and all time when coming to the public zone and all

Primary school zone :

Implimentation of Learnings

Including primary school studies at the local level by providing students with education that follows normal curriculum.

This lessened the parents’ concerns about their children’s futures.

Parents’ primary concerns are their child’s education and future, which is why they are enrolling him in football training. They consider it to be merely a passing time, much like playing football. Thus, the design serves to convey to them that football is a sport with bright futures.

To achieve this, by providing the players how to manage their studies and football beginning at age six. This can be achieved by establishing a primary school where football training is integrated into the curriculum rather than just being offered as a PT period, as Australia recently did. Also work with other schools by weakly collaborating on training programs and regularly hosting coaching camps. With this, all parents are able to assess their child’s level and what is happening in the training journey. Thus, this will provide the answer to all of their concerns.

Unsolved Problems

There is a stadium there currently. However, there are no alternatives to accommodation available for outside Players and spectators. The players reside 5 km away from the stadium for the main tournaments. They then had challenges with training, practice, and everything else.

There aren’t any rehab or treatment centers available.Major injuries that occur in between tournaments will make the rapid transition tough. There is a limit on the medical staff.

Additionally, there are no features that draw in the public, such as the site’s hilltop location, which allows for nice breezes in the evening, yet there is no development in accordance with quality space. That explains why people travel to mini-Ooty, which is 25 kilometers away, to experience such happiness and serene settings. Thus, during off-seasons, the location becomes abandoned for these reasons.

The Accomodation zone : Rehabilitation spaces :

PANTHALI [ THESIS ]

Public Recreation space :

The training philosophy, climatic responsiveness, and pitch field restrictions all account for the height difference.

The hub features a central football field, surrounded by interconnected buildings that include classrooms, dormitories, and recreational facilities. The design emphasizes a strong connection to the natural environment, with wind flow and natural light playing a significant role in the overall layout. The sketch also highlights the smooth edges and angled structures that contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of the hub.

The design emphasizes a connection to nature, with wind flow and natural light incorporated into the layout. The center features a football field, rehabilitation facilities, and a focus on physical health also highlights the importance of creating a distinct identity for the center, separate from the surrounding urban environment. The design aims to provide a supportive and therapeutic environment for Players undergoing rehabilitation.

According to a study of the local context, the native people in Malappuram enjoyed spending their spare time in places that were open and unrestricted, such as hilltops and surrounding tea shops or food street and all.

There is just that kind of space 25 kilometers away from the site.Since the location is on a hilltop, it makes sense to use its features to create a public leisure area with parks, a viewpoint, tea shops, food trucks, street games, etc.

PANTHALI

The Administration spaces

The main stadium process

PANTHALI [ THESIS ]

The design emphasizes a connection to the surrounding environment, with references to local architecture and natural features. Highlights the importance of creating a functional and efficient space for administrative tasks, while also incorporating elements that reflect the football theme. The design aims to provide a welcoming and professional atmosphere for staff and visitors.

The design incorporates various elements beyond the traditional football field, such as training pitches and normal public turf commercial markets, and a museum. The sketch highlights the importance of creating a vibrant and multifunctional space that can serve the community beyond football matches. The design aims to attract visitors and generate revenue, while also promoting local culture and heritage.

The main stadium is used for music performances during the off-season. Malabar is known as the home of mappilappattu; many of the songs from this genre have been recreated in recent films, and many singers who began their careers in Malappuram have performed there, including Shahabaz Aman,Dabzee, Raza Begum, and many others.

Additionally, this area’s other feature is its ability to be utilized as a screening room for national or international sporting events, like cricket and football. Due of Malappuam’s passion for sports, particularly football

The surroundings served as inspiration for the stadium’s design. Since the location is on a hilltop, there are four different types of hills around that can be abstracted into the design to better fit the stadium.

The stadium’s design was made to provide for a smooth wind flow into the stadium and surrounding area because the site is on a hilltop, which maximizes wind flow .Additionally, the stadium block was designed with passive ventilation by creating an open space in the stadium to allow unwanted heat to escape and a cool atmosphere to enter. .That also help to natural accoustical amplification

Beauty of togetherness

All blocks are eaqualy connected to each other fuctionaly and physically through landscapes and forms that represents the bonding and togetherness of the malabar context

The representations of togetherness of malabar context establish through spaces

for an example of recent plane crash at calicut international Airport ,karipur in 7 the august 2020 . Despite the rains and Covid 19 situation, many local people nearby rushed in to the spot where the air india aircraft finally comes to rest. Fazal (a local guy) told that we heard something loader, at first we thought it’s an thunder. after that screams came from loudly.we ran to the spot without wearing a masks or the gloves he said.

These local peoples are the heroes in plane crash. They also donated bags of bloods which needed for patients even in the midnights.
