About G

ilbert is a 72.6 square-mile town southeast of Phoenix with a rapidly-growing population. Although it has a more than 240,000 residents, it still has a close-knit warm community feel. Drive through the streets of Gilbert and you’ll find everything from fields of farmland dotted with old farm houses to contemporary, spacious homes and large subdivisions and bustling parks. There is no shortage of activities for visitors to Gilbert. Sit and relax in the beauty of the Riperian Perserve, or head down its many hiking and equestrian trails. More than 300 species of birds are known to visit the preserve, creating delight for residents and visitors alike. With nearly 300 sunny days every year, visitors to Gilbert can enjoy shopping at outdoor mall SanTan Village, run with four-legged friends at Cosmo Dog Park or participate in America’s favorite pastime at Big League Dreams at Elliot District Park. According to its town website, Gilbert was once known as the “hay-shipping capital of the world.” The town was incorporated in 1920, thanks to William “Bobby” Gilbert, who provided land to the Arizona Eastern Railway in 1902 to construct a rail line from Phoenix to Florence, Arizona.

GILBERT Those who visited Gilbert in the past may remember only farmland, but today’s town looks very different. Not only does it boast a vibrant downtown community and nationally-ranked education system, but it has also been commended as the second-safest city and 22nd best place to live in the country. Gilbert is not far from many popular attractions in the Valley of the Sun. The iconic Superstition Mountains – which you’ve probably seen in the movies – lie to the northeast; the Tonto National Forest is also nearby as well as Saguaro National Park to the south. Before leaving town to explore other sites in Arizona, be sure to dine at one of the town’s many acclaimed restaurants. The many delectable options have earned the town a ranking of a top-five food neighborhood in the Phoenix metropolitan area. And depending on what time of year you visit, you may also attend a downtown concert series, art and music festival or even a youth fishing day, among other activities. If time permits, partake in a round at one of Gilbert’s six golf courses or head indoors to a local movie theater or ice arena. According to the town’s website Gilbertaz.gov, the community is seen as a good place to raise a family by 95 percent of survey respondents. Gilbert has also been ranked as a Best Place to Live in the United States by CNN/Money Magazine and has earned accolades as the second-safest city in the country.

Once a bedroom community, Gilbert is quickly growing into an entertainment destination in the southeast Valley. From the locally-owned shops and artisans in the Heritage District to all the big-name department stores and restaurants at SanTan Village, and from Main Event Entertainment to FatCats, there is always something fun to do in this town. Purchasing or leasing a home or condominium in Gilbert also means access to nationally A-ranked schools and close-knit neighborhoods with parks and pools.

According to moveto.com, the cost of living in Gilbert is eight points higher than the average cost of living in Arizona, but still 36 points lower than the cost of living in Los Angeles. Gilbert residents pay five points less than the state average for goods and services and eight points less than the national average. Town residents also enjoy lower health care costs.

Gilbert offers more than 130 neighborhoods to call home. These include the scenic Val Vista Lakes, the modern village life of Agritopia, the upscale but affordable Adora Trails, the centrallylocated Cooley Station, the family-friendly Higley Groves and many more. It is not uncommon to find a neighborhood pool, multiple parks and basketball or tennis courts in these masterplanned communities. According to Wikipedia, Gilbert is the most populous incorporated town in the United States and the sixth-largest municipality in the state. Its largest employers include Gilbert Public Schools, Banner Health, Dignity Mercy Gilbert Medical Center and the Town of Gilbert. Those who work in the cities of Phoenix, Scottsdale and other parts of the Phoenix Metropolitan area generally commute to their workplaces in about 20-60 minutes via area freeways.
