Day One Let’s start on a Thursday.

Trust me, it’s a BIG deal to begin writing your own book! Especially, a RockStar book! Congratulations on taking such a huge step in your practice. If you believe, as we do, that people purchase from those they know, like, and trust, then you know it is critical to have your own book. To be able to pull this off, I believe you have to focus on this task.

The clock begins now.

You have thirty days from now to have your book in hand. Sign below and send to me so that we both can be held accountable for the next thirty days to get this book out to your fans!

Let’s begin.

What is your purpose for writing this book? What is it that you would like to convey? Don’t worry about a title right away. I promise it will just come to you later as you are writing away!

Begin gathering pictures from your childhood, family photos, and photographs with friends. Don’t forget those teenage years! Vacation photos seem to always pop up when you’re looking those old photographs. Think back on those times.

What about that first date? Did you play sports? Were you in the band? Did you have any leadership roles in school? What was your first memory of school?

Start writing. Don’t worry about keeping things in order, just write. You can always go back, erase, add to, and check what was written. Let’s just get in a groove today and see how interesting it is to put it on paper. I have had so many agents tell what an incredible exercise it is to write their life. Everything begins to be placed in a certain perspective.

Let’s spend an hour writing today and looking for photographs that are within reach.

Day Two If you are like most people, you couldn’t get the book off your mind the entire evening. Ideas are beginning to pounce from every direction.

That’s good.

Today, let’s line out our chapters. As you know, I have chapter seven and eight already completed for you. Chapter Seven is named “Compound the Love” and Chapter Eight is named “Making a Difference”. It serves as a reminder to the reader of what you do and what’s important. The first five chapters are all YOU! Once again, don’t worry about your first ideas. Just begin to give your book structure. Ideally, six chapters are what you will be working with. However, if excitement really hits you…expand! It’s okay! It’s YOUR book!

So, that first chapter…what would you call it? What we have found is that once you begin writing, you don’t want anyone to change a word. Make those first few paragraphs a story that is interesting, factual, and full of bold and exciting words. You need to capture the reader’s attention early and the first few paragraphs are so important. It could have been something from childhood that you have never forgotten or literally, something that happen last week that really brings this book together.

Start on your chapter names. Divide out into six different categories. Have FUN doing this. You are developing one fantastic outline for the book. Have you found some great pictures so far? Think about having a photographer take a picture of you at the office working or at home. Action shots are the best! Current photos are a must!

Day Three It’s Saturday. It’s the big day. I know. You and the family/friends are loaded with plans this weekend. This is the tough part. Sometimes, you have to be different. When others are out having fun, this is the day you world begins to whirl in a different direction. Today is the day that the RockStar in you begins to form! Others who have read up till now will put the book aside, never to return. There’s always something. To be successful takes sacrifice and today, I want you writing your heart. I want real emotion. Today truly is the day that everything becomes different.

If writer’s block hits you early, go do something and come back to it. However, make sure today it gets done. You’ve thought about this for several days.

Excitement and emotion will begin to flow. Let it.

Write.

Tell me the biggest lesson you ever learned. Who was your biggest influence and why? Write about the time(s) you got in trouble and how you felt. What did you do to reverse the trend? What about your first pet, your first date, your first love, your first travels, your first sickness, your first death, your first job, and your first school play? What part did church play in your life? Did you sing or play an instrument?

Rejection and joy played a big part in your life as well I suspect. Life lessons can sometimes come hard. Tell me about yours.

Be sure to include at least six of your favorite stories. Be a story teller. Let me visualize the story with your words and descriptions.

If you’re on fire, don’t let anything deter you, keep writing.

Day Four On Sunday afternoon, return to you book. Read it. Make sure that it makes sense to you. Send me a copy if you like. I’ll take a look and give my thoughts.

Let someone you love or knows you well read it. Ideally, let at least six people read the documents.

Take suggestions. Jot ‘em down. If you haven’t finished your six chapters, continue. If Saturday was the day, that everything flowed, rest. When you are finished, I want at least 15 pages on your word document. That will give us about 50-58 pages for the book with photos and the two chapters I have written.

Day Five Back to work, make sure you get photographs done today and find other old photographs that you might use. I think having 30 photos to submit is perfect.

Day Six With a set of fresh eyes and mind, read the book again today. Does it say everything you want it to? Remember, this is your legacy. It’s your story. No one else has a story like you.

Don’t be intimidated by what others will think or say. Most people will never even attempt to write a book about their lives. Think about that. Wow. Look at what you have just done!

Re-work the book if you need to. Pull back, add to…it’s your book! Enjoy the experience. Keep it fresh! Spending too much time on this will drain you of your energy and enthusiasm. Don’t you dare let that happen. Your copy must tell a story and convince the reader to stick around until the end. Be specific, don’t write in generalities. Use quotes! Make it colorful!

If you continue to have trouble writing, then call in reinforcements.

Perhaps look for a ghost writer who can help you put your thoughts into words. Go to www.upwork.com or www.elance.com to locate one if you don’t know one that you would like to use. Perhaps they can say it differently from you. If you go this route, accept the fact that you will lose your 30 day window to get the books to market.

When it is completed, again, let your friends read the document to get their opinion.

Day Seven So, how does it feel to be a writer? You did it. Smile. Jimmy Buffett, who has written several books, noted that the key was to write at least one page every day. You wrote an entire book in a week. Start to finish. That’s impressive!

Now, let’s get this to the proofreader. Send the copy to us. We will read over it and then send it on to a professional proofreader. For those contracted with us and have done business with us, we pay for the proofreader.

Day Eight Time to decide on the type of cover you want. Call our offices to get prices.

You can use a check or credit card to pay for the book. We will have pricing at our office. You will work directly with the printing company on payment as we do not charge for our services.

Day Nine Hey, it’s Friday. Book is in good hands. Take a day away from it.

Day Ten and Day Eleven Have a Great Weekend!

Day Twelve Let’s talk about marketing. How do you “deliver” the book? Don’t even think about keeping them in a closet and saving them for a raining day! This is one of the biggest marketing pieces of your career, let’s get them distributed. Have them available for ALL your gatherings, seminars, and one on one meetings.

And, be sure to offer the book on your website! Why not have a party and book signing event with all of your friends? Let them be the first to read about your life! Get a third party to introduce you and talk about your book. Why not be interviewed at the book signing? There are dozens of ideas our team can share! Let’s make this a BIG deal.

Day Thirteen You have received the proofread copy. Take one more final look. Are you happy with it? Is it everything you wanted to say? If so, it’s time to give the “go ahead” to the printer!

Day Fourteen Your work on the book is finished and it’s on the way to the printer. Pick out a date for your “Book Party” and invite 50 friends. Then, let our team design an invitation for you.

Day Fifteen through Twenty Eight Verify email addresses and phone numbers of your friends and closest clients.

They become your “fan base”. Find your location. Keep in mind, your own home with a catered barbecue meal is a great option! Be sure to have the atmosphere festive. I mean, c’mon, how many times do you get to write a book?!!!!! Email, or even better, send invitations through the mail. Follow up with phone calls or even personal visits! What a great way to jump start your practice and put it into overdrive!

Day Twenty Nine Your books have arrived!!! Less than a month ago, you were just beginning this incredible process. And today, your order has arrived at your office door!

Grab a cup of coffee. Share a book or two with those you love. Enjoy the read.

Day Thirty It’s your “Book Party!” Verify your guest list one final time. Remember to have the event catered so you can have more one on one time with your friends and guests. Let the caterer handle it all: ice, plates, tablecloths, cleanup, etc. Who did you pick to interview you? Give them about 30 questions to choose from.

Enjoy. It’s going to be a great party! Be relaxed, confident, and HAVE FUN!!!!
