MANAGERS NOTES GREGORY VIGNAL

Welcome to this evening’s SWPL match against Motherwell at The Hummel Training Centre. We knew Sunday’s cup semi-final against Glasgow City was going to be difficult against a strong team but we played well in the first-half. The girls gave it their all but after we scored the goal it got tough physically. We now look to the remaining games six games of the League season, starting with tonight’s match against Motherwell. We are expecting a tough game, they are currently just behind us in the league table so we know they will be up for the game. We have prepared well and will make sure that we approach the game in the right way, to hopefully get the three points. Thank you for your continued support.

Gregory

MATCH REPORT RANGERS WFC 1 GLASGOW CITY 4

13 October 2019 | Forthbank Stadium | SSE Scottish Cup

RANGERS Women were knocked-out of the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup on Sunday with a 4-1 defeat against Glasgow City in the semi-finals. It was a spirited performance from Gregory Vignal’s side as they took the lead in the first-half through Carla Boyce but Glasgow City managed to produce a comeback to secure their place in the final of the competition next month. City had the ball in the net on the third minute as Clare Shine fired home but the referee blew his whistle for handball and disallowed the goal. Scott Booth’s side had another chance just a minute later as Shine picked up on a loose pass from Rangers midfield to get her shot away but it was pushed wide well by Rangers goalkeeper Baillie. It was a lively start to the game as Chantelle Brown was booked for a challenge on Leanne Crichton with 10 minutes on the clock. The Glasgow City midfielder had to be replaced by Jenna Clark after receiving treatment on the pitch. Glasgow City came close to opening the scoring on the 26th minute as Hayley Lauder’s corner was punched clear by Jade Baillie but landed back at Lauder who swung another dangerous cross into the box but it was headed just over the target by Clare Shine. Rangers’ hard work in the first half-hour paid off as they took the lead at Forthbank. Emma Brownlie swung a corner into the box on the 34th minute, which was turned behind at the back-post by striker Carla Boyce. Glasgow City had a chance to reply as Haylay Lauder’s corner fell nicely for Leanne Ross on the edge of the box but she couldn’t keep her effort down as it drifted over the bar.

City continued to threaten for an equaliser as a pass through to Clare Shine saw her one-on-one with the keeper. The forward rounded Jade Baillie but her shot was cleared off the line by Rangers defender Lauren Gallon. As Glasgow City piled on the pressure before the break Jade Baillie produced a fantastic save as she got a hand to Joanne Love’s curling effort to turn it wide. The equaliser did come just before the break as Eilish McSorely turned the ball goalwards from a Leanne Ross corner. The second-half started in similar fashion to the first as Chantelle Brown went on a good run for Rangers but her shot was saved comfortably by the Glasgow City keeper before they broke up the other end of the park as Jade Baillie denied Clare Shine with a good save. Glasgow City were in front five minutes into the second half as Leanne Ross’ corner was turned in by Sam Kerr. Scott Booth’s side had a third as Haylay Lauder broke down the left-hand side before her cross across goal was tapped home at the far post by Rachael McLauchlan. With 10 minutes to go, Jade Baillie produced another good save as she denied Kirsty Howart from adding a fourth. The fourth did come on the 85th minute as Howat’s cross was turned home by Rachael McLauchlan for her second of the afternoon. Rangers: Baillie, Bourma, Watson, L. Gallon, Dalgliesh, Brown (Napier, 78), Brownlie, Campbell (J. Gallon, 53) Gemmell, Boyce, O’Hara. Subs: Ramsay, Napier, Honeyman, Cameron.

CAPTAIN’S NOTES CLARE GEMMELL

Welcome along to our game against Motherwell this evening. I think we started the first half well against Glasgow City on Sunday and I think we kept ourselves in the game. Obviously scoring the first goal was a big thing for us but unfortunately we kind of fell away a bit in the second half. Getting to another semi-final was good for us, but it is a few times we have been there now we just can't seem to push on past that, but we are hoping next season that we will be in that final. Back to tonight, I think it'll be a hard game for us, Motherwell are always a difficult game for us I think the last game ended up in a draw. I think we have both got points to prove now especially with us losing 4-1 on Sunday so we will be looking to win the game but we know that they will give us a difficult test and we will need to be prepared for that.

Enjoy the game,

Clare
