MANAGERS NOTES GREGORY VIGNAL

Welcome to The Hummel Training Centre for our final home SWPL game of the season. On Sunday against Celtic we played ok in the first-half but mistakes cost us in the second half. There have been a lot of games recently which has been a test for the girls after a tough season. We go into tonight’s game looking to secure a victory in our final home game and will hope to see a reaction from the girls from Sunday. We still have two away games against Motherwell and Spartans but I would like to thank everyone for their support over this season and look forward to welcoming you all back to The Hummel Training Centre next season. Thank you for your continued support.

Gregory

MATCH REPORT RANGERS WFC 0 CELTIC FC WOMEN 3

27 September 2019 | The Hummel Training Centre | SWPL

THREE second-half goals saw Rangers Women lose the final Old Firm game of the season this afternoon. It was goalless at the break at The Hummel Training Centre but strikes from Sarah Ewens, Josephine Giard and Katherine Smart saw Celtic take the three points. The visitors had the first chance of the game inside the second minute as a ball lofted onto the box landed for Josephine Giard but her shot was over the bar. The Gers had their first real chance of the match on the 20th minute as Emma Brownlie’s free-kick met Carla Boyce in the box but she couldn’t keep her header down as it drifted over the target. Shortly after Celtic broke quickly but Sarah Ewens’ low shot from inside the box was held well by Khym Ramsay. Ramsay was called into action again just before the break as Natalie Ross tried a shot from distance for Celtic but the Rangers number 1 got a finger on it to touch it wide. Carla Boyce had another shot for Rangers just before the break but it was saved by the Celtic keeper. Celtic took the lead just three minutes into the second-half as the ball broke for Sarah Ewens with space in the box and she fired a powerful effort beyond Khym Ramsay. The visitors had a second just 10 minutes later as Josephine Giard drilled a low effort beyond Ramsay.

SPARTANS FC WOMEN

The visitors had a second just 10 minutes later as Josephine Giard drilled a low effort beyond Ramsay. Rangers broke well from a Celtic corner just after the hour mark as Rosie Mcquillan went on a driving run into the Celtic half and found Hannah Robertson but her cross was blocked by a defender. Gregory Vignal’s side came close a few minutes later as Emma Brownlie’s corner fell for Lauren Gallen inside the box but her shot drifted over the bar. Another good corner was swung into the box by Emma Brownlie which met the head of Jayne Cameron but her effort was cleared off the line by Celtic. Brownlie had a chance herself with 10 minutes remaining as she curled a free-kick towards goal but it bounced off the post and was cleared. Celtic had a chance to add a third as Craig’s shot was blocked by Khym Ramsay before Donaldson picked up the loose ball to get a shot away but fired her effort over the bar. However, the third did come with five minutes remaining as Kathrine Smart got on the end of a ball from Natalie Ross to slot low into the back of the net. Rangers: Baillie, Brownlie, Bourma (Macdonald, 79), Dalgliesh, L. Gallon, Campbell (Mcquillan, 56), Gemmell, Napier, Hay (J. Gallon, 66), Boyce (Honeyman, 86), H. Robertson (Cameron, 72). CAPTAIN’S NOTES CLARE GEMMELL

Welcome to the last home game of the season against Spartans. We haven’t played them since April when we won 1-0 and there have been a lot of changes and improvements since then, but I’m sure there has been with them too. It is always a tough game. They are hardworking, organised and pose a threat going forward. We are looking to secure a fourth placed finish so it is a must win game for us with Spartans sitting so close behind us in the table. Looking back over the season we were unsuccessful in winning aything coming up against tough opposition in Glasgow City in both cup semi-finals. With that said there have been loads of positive changes introduced with the club further investing in the Women’s programme and Greg has driven that forward since being appointed manager. We have used the second-half of the season to develop as a squad and have started to strengthen with the introduction of players which will only continue into next season. It is an exciting time for the club and something I am privileged to be part of. Enjoy the game,

Clare
