On beh a lf o f th e Rathmines and Rathgar Musical Society, I w elcom e you to the N ational C oncert Hall - fo r our concert Rom berg to Rodgers.

It was 21 years ago in 1984 that, w ith a certain am ount o f tre pida tion , we first ventured to p erfo rm here at the NCH. We d id so w ith a G ilb e rt & Sullivan concert fe a tu rin g fa v o u rite s fro m th e Savoy operas. Well, we need not have had any fears i o r the form ula ("these you have lo ve d " sort o f thing) proved to to be a g re at success and so began our happy association with this splendid venue.

A p a rt from our concerts, we have also p erfo rm e d co m p lete G ilb e rt & Sullivan operas here at th e NCH - HMS Pinafore, The Gondoliers, The Pirates o f Penzance, The M ika d o and The Yeomen o f the Guard - all to considerable acclaim.

O f course we also have o ur annual tw o week season at th e G aiety Theatre where, n e xt S pring, w e will be sta g in g th e w o n d e rfu l and ever-popular Fiddler on the R o o f A nd so to this evening's concert. As th e title suggests, th e music spans q uite a n um be r o f years from Sigm und Romberg (The Desert Song, N e w M o o n,T h e S tu d e n t Prince) to Richard Rodgers (The Sound o f Music, South Pacific, The King and I) and lots m ore fro m o th e r n otable com posers.

OUR PRODUCTION TEAM MARINA KEALY - Director/Choreographer Marina has been involved w ith dance fro m an early age. She has p erfo rm ed in all th e m ajor theatres, professional cabaret and on national television. Marina's w o rk has been w id e and varied. Having danced in numerous John Player Tops o f the Town finals, she was d e ligh ted when the show she ch o re o g ra p h e d reached the national final and was broadcast live by RTE. O th e r successes include, Godspell, Chess, Guys a nd Dolls, Joseph a nd the A m a zin g Technicolor Dreamcoat, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, W onderful Town and many dance w orkshops th ro u g h o u t the country.

Marina's w o rk received a nom ination fro m AIMS fo r Grease and won Best C h o re o g ra p h e r A w ard fro m b o th AIMS and th e Bangor Festival fo r her w o rk in M e and M y Girl. F ollow ing this Marina was asked to co -choreograph the professional p ro d u ctio n o f M e and M y Girl at the O lym pia Theatre. Marina has a long association w ith th e R&R. Firstly as a dancer, and p erfo rm er in th e role o f Liat in South Pacific. She successfully ch oreo grap h ed the R&R pro du ction s o f The Pirates o f Penzance, th e R&R 90th B irthday Celebration, M y Fair Lady, The Yeomen o f the Guard and Gigi. She also ch o re o g ra p h e d th e M e rry W id o w fo r Glasnevin Musical Society earlier this year.

Marina is d e lig h te d to continue her association w ith th e R&R as D ire c to r/C h o re o g ra p h e r and w o u ld like to wish them every success in this fo rth c o m in g co nce rt and every success in the future.

GEAROID GRANT - Musical Director Gearoid G ra nt was born in D ublin and g ra d u a te d w ith a B.Mus deg re e fro m University C ollege D ublin. Since then he has com bined a freelance career as co n d u c to r w ith a career in music education.

He has c o n d u cte d all th e principal orchestras in Ireland, the N ational Sym phony Orchestra, th e RTE C o nce rt Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, th e Irish C ham ber O rchestra and th e National Youth O rchestra o f Ireland.

G earoid devised and continues to p resent and c o n d u c t the acclaimed series Music in the Classroom which introduces music to 30,000 Irish children annually, w ith perform ances at th e National C oncert Hall in Dublin and in m a jo r venues around Ireland. The p ro gra m m e is d e ve lo pe d in conjunction w ith RTE, The Irish Tim es and th e D e p a rtm e n t o f Education. G earoid has to u re d in England w ith the Irish C ham ber Orchestra. He has c o nd u cte d all o f Shaun Davey's m ajor works, and prem ieres o f Shaun Davey's Relief o f Derry S ym phony in 1989 and his C o nce rto fo r Uilleann Pipe p erfo rm ed fo r th e first tim e at G reenw ich Festival in London. These works are recorded fo r Tara Records. He has done a g reat deal o f film w o rk w ith th e Irish Film O rchestra, o f which he is Associate Musical Director. No stranger to television and theatre, G earoid G ra nt has co n d u cte d a w ide re p erto ire ranging fro m M o za rt to Sondheim.

G earoid has been th e co n d u cto r o f the National Youth O rchestra o f Ireland Under 18s since it was fo rm e d in 1980 and is a m e m b er o f the Board o f th e NYOI. G earoid has been th e Musical D irecto r w ith th e R&R fo r o v e r 25 years.

JACKIE CURRAN-OLOHAN - Chorus Director D aughter o f Josephine Scanlon and th e late Chris Curran, Jackie has distinguished herself as a perform er, musician, music director, chorus d ire c to r and teacher. Her musical education th riv e d under Sr. Agnes Nolan at St. Mary's C ollege, A rklow , Eithne Troy at the C ollege o f Music and subsequently UCD from which she gra du ate d w ith a B Mus. (Hons.).

Jackie has been Music D ire c to r and C o n d u c to r fo r many show prem ieres and was awarded Best Music D irecto r at the W a te rfo rd Festival o f Light O pera fo r Stephen Sondheim 's Into the Woods.

This, and co nd u cting her fa th e r in A nn ie at th e O lym pia, she regards as her h igh lig h ts to date.

As a p e rfo rm e r she has a pp eared at th e NCH and on RTE radio and television. She works regularly as a backing vocalist w ith leading recording artists, m ost recently on Paul Byrom's Velvet. Jackie especially enjoyed playing the role o f Ruth in Festival Production's Pirates o f Penzance. She is the Chorus D irector o f Lyric O pera and looks forw a rd to being Musical D ire cto r fo r The M a g ic o f Christmas w ith Jim M o llo y P roductions at the N ational C o n ce rt Hall.

SANDRA MULLEN - Assistant to the Choreographer Sandra began dancing at an early age and since th e n has p e rfo rm e d in num erous am ateur and professional pro du ction s including Mack & Mabel, M e & M y Girl, and A n y th in g Goes. She has also appeared in television shows such as th e Late Late Show.

Sandra m oved in to c h oreo grap h y w ith successes in p an tom im e a m o ng st others. Having danced in a n um be r o f R&R productions, this is Sandra's firs t show w o rk in g as assistant to th e choreographer.

PAT CAMPBELL Pat is c e le b ra tin g his 6 0 th year in th e R&R, having jo in e d in 1945.

T h ro u g h o u t these years he has played m any leading ch aracte r roles in musicals and especially in th e G ilb e rt & Sullivan operas fo r which he has a p articular penchant.

In th e 1995 p ro d u ctio n o f M y Fair Lady, Pat played th e p a rt o f C olonel Pickering and he le t us kn o w then th a t this w o u ld m ark his re tire m e n t from 'a ctive service' - fro m tre a d in g th e boards. N ow, ten years later to his surprise - b u t n o t to others, here he is still 'tre a d in g th e boards'.

Pat is a Trustee o f th e Society, was General Secretary fro m 1974 t o 1986, a nd was m ade a life m e m b e r in 1996. He was a p p o in te d P resident in 1998, a p o s itio n he holds w ith g re a t pride .

In 1988 Pat was th e re c ip ie n t o f th e C ity o f D ub lin M illen niu m A w a rd fo r o u ts ta n d in g a chievem ent in lig h t music. He tells us th a t this co n ce rt is d e fin ite ly his last stage appearance. Oh yeah? If you b elieve that...

PHILIP BYRNE Philip has been singing m ale lead parts in musicals since he was 25 years o ld . He sang w ith th e D ub lin G rand O p e ra Society fo r te n years before m o v in g to musicals. A th re e -tim e w in n e r o f th e Best M ale Voice award at th e W a te rfo rd Inte rn atio na l Festival o f L ig h t O p era, he has to u re d Am erica m any tim e s and p e rfo rm e d on te levision and rad io b o th at hom e and abroa d. Ten years in Doyles Irish C a b aret a t th e B u rlin gto n fo llo w e d many e x te n d e d caba re t seasons in Killiney Castle, C lo n ta rf Castle and The B raem or Rooms.

Philip has w ritte n and p e rfo rm e d M o o re a nd French (The Entertainers) w h ich has clocke d m ore than 2 50 p erform an ces b o th in Ireland and abroa d. SANDRA KELLY Sandra stu d ie d singing w ith M ary Brennan and A lison Young at th e DIT C on servatory o f Music and was a w a rd ed th e g o ld m edal fo r singing. She has also w on several prizes in th e D ub lin Feis C eol in clu d in g th e Dernnot Troy cup fo r O ra to rio , Stanford C up, th e Ford-Taylor prize fo r G ilb e rt and Sullivan and th e Rathmines and Rathgar Cup. Sandra has played many principal roles in clu d in g A d e le in Die Fledermaus, Laurey in Oklahoma!, N ellie Forbush in South Pacific, M arian in Music M an and Jo sephine in HM S Pinafore.

Sandra's radio w ork includes p laying th e role o f Laurey in th e Gay Byrne Show's p ro d u c tio n o f Oklahoma!. She also appears in th e variety show Showtim es w hich has been p e rfo rm e d in m any venues th ro u g h o u t Ireland.

Sandra played Tessa in The G ondoliers, M ag no lia in S h o w b o a t and Sarah Brown in Guys & Dolls in previous R&R p ro d u ctio n s at th e Gaiety. She has also a pp ea re d as a soloist w ith th e R&R in th e NCH on many occasions.

ANNE MARIA SMITH A native o f Belfast, A nne M aria m ove d to D ub lin to stu dy singing w ith Dr. Veronica Dunne. She was a vocal w in n e r o f th e RTE Musician o f th e Future and w e n t on to rep re sen t N o rth e rn Ireland in th e BBC C a rd iff Singer o f th e W o rld C o m p e titio n .

Television and radio w o rk includes The Late Late Show, Kenny Live, Live at Three, Songs o f Praise and Theatre N ig h ts a lo ng w ith num erous concerts and recitals fo r RTE and BBC. A n n e M aria enjoys p e rfo rm in g in musical th e a tre w ith Eliza in M y Fair Lady, Kate in Kiss M e, Kate and Julie in S h o w b o a t a m o n g her many roles.

Equally at h om e on th e o p e ra tic and co n ce rt p la tfo rm , A n n e Maria has w o rk e d fo r m any d iffe re n t c o m p an ie s and orchestras in Ireland, Britain, E urope and th e U nited States.

SARAH GUILMARTIN C urrently stu d yin g vo ice at th e Royal Irish A c a d e m y o f M usic under th e d irectio n o f M r Philip O'Reilly, Sarah has been p e rfo rm in g since a yo u n g age in stage and musical th e a tre roles. N o w b e g in n in g her th ird season w ith th e Rathm ines and Rathgar M usical Society, Sarah's previous cred its include, M y Fair Lady, G ig i (The G a ie ty Theatre) and as a so lo ist at R&R functions.

H er musical interests e x te n d to opera. Sarah recently d e b u te d a longside A m e rican soprano Jean G lennon in th e role o f Pisana in Verdi's I D ue Foscari (Lyric O pera Productions). O th e r o p e ra credits include; A ida, Turandot, Tosca and La Bo he m e all o f w hich w h e re p e rfo rm e d in the NCH. The role o f th e Bridesm aid in The M arria ge o f Figaro w ith Lyric O p e ra P roductions and RIAM choral perform an ces (NCH '06) are a m o ng st her u p c o m in g e ng ag em ents.

CLARA DALTON Clara g ra d u a te d from Bull A lley T heatre Training C o m p a n y o f Perform ing A rts at Liberties C o lle g e in 2003, w here she tra in e d in acting, singing and dance. There she played many lead roles such as Mrs. N o rd s tro m in A little N ig h t Music, Erzulie in On ce on this Island and Sally Bowles in Cabaret.

She began her voice tra in in g at th e age o f fifte e n and co ntinues to -d a te u nd er th e supervision o f M ary Brennan.

Clara has been an active m e m b e r o f th e R&R fo r th e last th re e years and has enjoyed p e rfo rm in g in many p ro d u c tio n s inclu ding T he 90th Birthday C elebration (NCH), An Evening with Mr. G ilb e rt a nd Mr. Sullivan (NCH), and playing Mrs. H opkins in M y Fair Lady in th e G a iety Theatre, to name b u t a few.

She was th e firs t ever solo vocalist to p e rfo rm w ith th e D ublin Youth O rchestra at th e NCH in 2004 and recently to o k p art in re co rd in g fo r th e H a 'p e n n y Bridge Soundtrack. She is d e lig h te d to be ta k in g p a rt in th e show and p e rfo rm in g a song fro m one o f her fa vou rite musicals... Enjoy!!

CATHERINE NEYLAN C atherine is a s tu d e n t at th e DIT C on servatory o f Music and Drama where she studies singing w ith Toni Walsh. From an early age C atherine has been involved in film , stage and musical p ro d u ctio n s. As a ch ild she had a role in th e Oscar n om in a te d film In th e N am e o f the F ather starring Daniel Day Lewis. She stu d ie d b allro om dan cin g fo r te n years w ith th e Carmel C a rp e n te r School o f Dance and was a m e m b e r o f th e N ational C hildren's C ho ir and the Park Singers led b y Sean Cramer.

In 2004 C atherine app ea re d as a m od el and dancer in th e Nokia UCD A rts Fashion Show w hich was sta ge d in th e P oint D e p o t. She has starred in several am ateur p ro d u ctio n s inclu ding ; Little M a ry Sunshine, Guys and Dolls, South Pacific and to o k th e lead role o f Laurey in Okla ho m a !

Since jo in in g th e R&R M usical S ociety in 2004, C atherine has enjoyed b eing involved in The Yeomen o f the G u a rd and th e Spring p ro d u c tio n o f G ig i in th e G aiety Theatre.

DANIELLE MAHER D anielle began d ancing a t the te n d e r age o f fo u r and tra in e d w ith Sylvia Behan School o f Ballet in ballet and jazz dan cin g and w ith D ig g es Lane in ta p dancing. She successfully c o m p le te d a sum m er course in jazz and musical studies in London S tud io C entre. She was a m e m b e r o f A rth ur's Team fo r three years - shows inclu d e d Singing in the Rain, M ack & M a b e l and Crazy For You. D anielle dan ced w ith Xanadu in Jo hn Player Tops o f th e Town fo r fo u r years w here th e y w ere national w inners in 1995, which was televised. She a ppeared in th e W a te rfo rd Light O p e ra Festival in Chess and Copacabana and p e rfo rm e d on th e Kenny Live Christmas Special 2000. She also fe a tu re d in a p ro m o tio n a l v id e o fo r th e N ational Safety Council, which was v iew e d in all national schools, and was th e w in n e r o f tw o awards.

D anielle is invo lved regularly in c o rp o ra te e n te rta in m e n t and launches.

She has app ea re d in several sum m er and w in te r cabarets w ith Red Hurley, Twink and D ickie Rock and was invo lved in th e Rose o f Tralee Festival 2002. She p e rfo rm e d w ith the June R odgers C a b a re t fo r several seasons in b o th D ublin and C ork This year she is m aking a return w ith John Brady E n te rta in m e n t in Christm as caba re t at th e H ilton H otel.

BRENDAN GALVIN Brendan is currently a tte n d in g th e Leinster School o f M usic u n d e r the guidance o f Peter M cBrien. He has p e rfo rm e d w ith th e R&R fo r o ve r ten years in many p ro d u c tio n s such as M e & M y Girl, Gigi, Guys & Dolls, South Pacific, M y Fair Lady, The M ik a d o and m any m ore, b o th in th e Gaiety Theatre and th e N CH . He also a pp ea re d w ith th e R&R on television in the RTE Proms and th e Late Late Show.

A p a rt fro m playing many m in o r roles w ith th e R&R, he has p e rfo rm e d the roles o f B o bb y in The B oyfriend (Navan Road M.S.) and St. Brioche in The M e rry W id o w at th e NCH and many o th e r parts in local th e a tre , b oth singing and drama.

Brendan is also a m e m b e r o f Lyric O p era and has rece ntly p e rfo rm e d in Verdi's II due Foscari and La Bo he m e b o th in th e N ational C on cert Hall.

JOHN McCALL John has a pp ea re d in various R&R p ro d u c tio n s in c lu d in g Will Parker in Oklahoma!, Harry in Guys a nd Dolls and Fyedka in F idd le r O n The R o o f (all at th e Gaiety) and as Samuel in The Pirates o f Penzance. He has also fe a tu re d as a soloist fo r th e society's co ncerts at th e NCH. Television credits include The Seven Days o f C reation at th e NCH a nd The Late Late Show fo r RTE. W ith th e Glasnevin M usical S ociety he a pp ea re d at the Richard Rodgers C entenary C o n c e rt (for RTE Radio) a nd the Barra O Tuama O p e ra Gala. W ith Musical Youth T heatre John a pp ea re d as Roger in Grease and Z e b u lu n in J o s e p h a n d th e A m a z in g T ech nico lo r Dream coat.

John returns to th e NCH w ith th e R&R a fte r a th re e year sabbatical during w hich tim e he enjoye d chart success w ith his ban d M a n kin d with w hich he to u re d extensively in Ireland and th e UK. TYNAN HOOPER Tynan stu d ie d w ith th e G a iety School o f A c tin g and fro m a young age has been very much involved in musical th ea tre. He starred in several a m ateur p ro d u c tio n s inclu ding : Jesus Christ Superstar, G o d s p e ll and Jo sep h and the A m a z in g Technicolor Dream coat.

MICHAEL HORAN Michael is a native o f Castleisland in Co. Kerry. He has been an active m em ber o f the R&R fo r the last tw o years, having perform ed in M y Fair Lady in N ovem ber 2003.

Michael won a part-scholarship in the DIT School o f Music in 2001 studying singing with Edith Forrest and in 2005 studied with Dr. Veronica Dunne in the Leinster School o f Music.

He has also perform ed in The Yeomen o f the Guard w ith the R&R and The Pirates o f Penzance and The Great Waltz with Festival Productions. On the opera fron t he has perform ed in Aida, Turandot and II due Foscari.

MICHAEL CLARK This is Michael's second show fo r the R&R. O ver the last year, Michael has perform ed in The Yeomen o f the Guard (R&R) as well as Turandot, Tosca, II due Foscari and La Boheme fo r Lyric Opera. Enjoy the show!
