LIZAMA FEATURE STORY

THE VOLVO VNL Lizama Carriers has grown exponentially over the past few years and hit a massive growth spurt in 2017. The fleet almost doubled, growing 42% between July 2017 and early 2018. During that time, Lizama discovered that they needed automated transmissions as many new drivers were unable to drive manuals.

BEYOND THE NEW MILLENNIUM

Volvo I-Shifts are now the preferred truck of choice to meet this demand; they carry an impressive price along with low diesel consumption.

BIG LEAP TO THE BIG D The year 2000 was a century leap year, the 2000th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 1000th and last year of the 2nd millennium, the 100th and last year of the 20th century, and the 1st year of the 2000s decade.

Things truck along for another five years when in 2011, the brother team earned themselves the Home Goods account.

That was the pivotal moment when their business took off and their operation catapulted to another level. Today, Lizama Carriers runs seventy-two trucks and counting.

The last eight of those are the new Volvo VNL with I-Shifts.

The Significance… The year 2000 was a big year for Lizama Carriers LLC marking essentially where their story begins.

Two brothers, Nelson and Yesmin Lizama, find themselves on a new journey moving to Dallas, aka the Big D, from El Salvador, the smallest country in Central America.

Nelson’s trucking path takes place four years later in 2004 when he finds work as a bobtail driver. A mere short six months goes by when he leverages himself in a big way to work out an agreement with the company with whom he was driving for to purchase a truck of his own. Nelson’s work hours consisted of long weeks and long days driving that first truck every Monday through Saturday from 2am to 6pm.

TRUCK SPEAK Mike Pacheco, the head of Lizama Human Resources and Business Development, proudly shares, “Lizama Carriers has been growing exponentially over the past few years and in 2017 we had a huge growth spurt. Our fleet almost doubled, growing 42% between July 2017 and early 2018.

During that time, we discovered that we needed automated transmissions as many of the new drivers applying were unable to drive the manuals. Volvo I-Shifts are now our preferred truck of choice to meet this demand and we are continually impressed by the price and the low diesel consumption. There is a lot less physical stress on drivers.

In fact, we purposely put one of our drivers with an injured wrist in the automated. He has less shifting to do and the I-Shift provides less strain on his injury.

Family owned company and proudly Bi-Lingual (Spanish-English). Employs individuals from the U.S., El Salvador, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Guatemala and others around the globe.

Lizama started as a local/regional trucking company working as cartage agents for Forward Air Solutions, specializing in delivery to multiple major retail stores in North Texas. In 2006, became Lizama Carriers.

A Full Truckload (FTL) Interstate Carrier. Primary business remains with Forward Air Inc. and Home Goods.

Now run direct from Home Goods Distribution Center and added a truck and trailer repair shop, maintaining internal fleet and providing service to external customers.

Seventy two trucks and counting.
