For the first time ever, we are opening the herd genetics and offering a very nice set of purebred heifers. It was a hard decision but it’s time to share the program that we have built. Nothing was sorted off and held back. The entire 2024 heifer calf crop will sell.
In addition to the Charolais heifers, we are offering the entire set of SimAngus heifers that we raised with the intention of making replacements for our commercial herd. They carry Wagon Hammer Ranch genetics. Don’t miss out on a fancy set of heifers that are open and ready to breed.

Announcements from the auction block on sale day take precedence over information in this catalog.
PREVIEW:
Bulls are available for preview at any time at the headquarters until two days before the sale. On Sunday the bulls will be hauled to Winter Livestock and will be available for viewing that afternoon and through sale day. The heifers will arrive the day before the sale.
FIRST YEAR GUARANTEE:
All bulls come with a 90-day soundness guarantee. If a replacement bull is not available, credit will be issued at the next annual sale. All bulls are guaranteed to be breeders; however, no guarantee is given that the semen collected from a bull will freeze. All bulls have passed a breeding soundness exam prior to the sale. Scrotal Measurements will be available on sale day.
FREE DELIVERY WITHIN 300 MILES:
Any bull that is not picked up the day of the sale will be taken back to our facility at no additional cost until delivery can be arranged. Every effort will be made to deliver bulls shortly after the sale.
HERD HEALTH:
All Cattle have been double vaccinated against IBR, BVD type 1 & 2, BRSV, PI3, Pasteurella and Vibrio/Lepto. All cattle can be given interstate health papers the day of the sale. All females have been Bangs Vaccinated. Any bulls going to states that require trich tests on virgin bulls will be completed before delivery.
NUTRITION:
Bulls are fed a high roughage growing ration with the intent of gaining 2 pounds a day. They are never pushed to gain.
AVERAGE DAILY GAINS (ADG):
ADG is the measurement of the average daily gain from weaning to yearling. Performance gain data is for in herd comparison only. All bulls have been feed as one group and subject to identical environmental conditions.
GENOMIC-ENHANCED EPD’S (GE-EPD):
Genomic, or DNA, test results are used enhance predictability and to achieve more accuracy on EPDs for younger animals. DNA technology along with pedigree, performance and progeny information is used in the calculation and reporting of EPD’s. All Horse Creek Charolais Bulls have been DNA tested.
REGISTRATION PAPERS:
All purebred bulls are registered with the American International Charolais Association. Registration papers are available by request only.

USING EPDS FOR SELECTION
Expected Progeny Differences (EPD) is a prediction of how future calves of a bull are expected to perform compared to other bulls in the breed. The EPD itself does not imply “good” or “bad” performance, but rather the EPD gives a prediction of the average difference to expect in the performance of a bull’s calves compared to other bulls in the same breed. The EPD is reported as a plus or minus value in the unit which the trait is measured.
CALVING EASE DIRECT (CE) is based on calving ease scores and birth weights. More positive EPDs are favorable and indicate easier calving. The EPD for direct calving ease indicates the influence of the sire on calving ease in purebred females calving at 2 years of age.
BIRTH WEIGHT EPD (BW) The expected difference in avg. birth weight (pounds) of progeny. Birth weight reflects prenatal growth.
WEANING WEIGHT EPD (WW) The expected difference in average weaning weight of calves expressed in pounds. This EPD reflects the genetic influence on pre-weaning growth rate.
YEARLING WEIGHT EPD (YW) The expected difference in average yearling weight of calves expressed in pounds. The evaluation reflects genetic influence on both pre-weaning and post-weaning growth rate. It is the best estimate of total growth.
MATERNAL MILK EPD (MILK) The genetic ability of a sire’s or dam’s daughters to express in pounds of weaning weight in her calves due to her maternal ability through mothering instinct and milk.
TERMINAL SIRE INDEX (TSI) is a formal method of combing epds for bwt, wwt, ywt, and all carcass epds into one single value. The tsi represents a dollar index per terminal progeny produced for a bull in the aica database, ranking them for profit potential. This dollar index is to be interpreted much like single trait epd. For example, if sire a’s index is $191.66 And sire b’s index is $200.00, Then we would expect sire b’s offspring to average $8.34 More net return ($200.00 Minus $191.66) Than sire a’s offspring.
