★ Over the years we have been fortunate to meet a lot of ranchers and Angus breeders from overseas. Their programs are uniquely different to what you’ll find in the U.S. and their cattle and pedigrees intrigued us because of a need to introduce new genetics to the American gene pool. With so many U.S. sires used through A.I. in New Zealand and Australia, finding a true outcross pedigree is difficult. The first time we saw Roy R38’s video we knew, he’s that bull, he adds so many basics back into the breeding equation. With a look like the great Capitalist 316, this now proven sire whos progeny have headlined sales in NZ as well as AU. Head principal of Taimate Angus, Paul Hickman, describes Roy as a bull with perfect feet, tremendous fleshing ability, fertility in his daughters that’s second to none, proven calving ease, lots of scrotal, and his progeny run at high elevations with no problems. Bringing a sire here with this kind of diversity, phenotype, and proven economic traits is an exciting day for Angus. With the help from our good friend, the late Lindsay Jones, NZ, we did our homework and in just a short year, Roy R38 semen was on U.S. soil and registered with AAA.
