Kudos to Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation Kudos to Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation on redesigning of roads We are extremely happy to note for your honest efforts to redesign 1000 k.ms of roads for the benefit of walkers and cyclists. Three zones like Kodambakkam, Teynampet and Adyar have been identified for this excellent project. The benefits will be wide and continuous footpaths, safe pedestrian crossings, dedicated cycle tracks, convenient bus stops, clearly designed street parking and properly carved carriageways.

Already people using Arcot road are suffering a lot that the road is always virtually jampacked and traffic snarls due to explosion of traffic, is a daily occurrence, causing frequent accidents. The pedestrians esp. the senior citizens and children have to walk or cross the roads, risking their life. There is no footpath for pedestrians which sometimes is used by illegal vendors. There is no parking space for vehicles, with the result, the vehicles are parked on the roads causing hindrance to easy flow of traffic. Under the above genuine context, we

request the Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation to include Valasaravakkam, Zone 11 also for fetching better civic amenities for long life expectancy of roads and solution of critical civic problem existing in Arcot Road. Our special request letter have been sent to Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation and Assistant Commissioner, Zone 11 for consideration of the captioned commendable scheme to Valasaravakkam also. S.Ganapathy, President, Federation of Valasaravakkam Civic Wel. Assn

Memorandums by Federation Memorandums submitted to Assistant Commissioner , Zone 11, Greater Chennai Corporation, Wards 149 & 152 and Dy.Area Engineer, Chennai Metro & Sewerage Board, Chennai 87 on 30th May 2019. We have great pleasure in informing our residents that we have handed over our memorandums to the above officials to take urgent steps for immediate redressal of our grievances faced by residents and make Valasaravakkam tip-top in all civic affairs, as detailed. 1.Most of the roads in Valasaravakkam are laid without proper milling as envisaged in the rules, consequently, the roads are heightened by not less than 2 feet every time and the houses go down below the road level. The residents are forced to spend more money for maintenance of the house.

2. Whenever road works are undertaken due to storm water drainage, cable laying works or pipe laying for Chennai metro water or electrical cable laying works, the dug up roads are left out leaving pits or broken everywhere without relaying. With the resultant agony, senior citizens are put to irreparable hardships while walking and cycling, affecting their health. 3. In most of the main roads in Valasaravakkam, a lot of petty shops and illegal vendors have sprung up keeping their shops up to road level, putting people into difficulties, vulnerable to accidents and there is no footpath for pedestrians to walk safely on the roads. 4. Speed-breakers should be laid according to proper specifications at important junctions to avoid accidents by over speeding vehicles.

Those who are interested to participate in this mass event, register your names to Mr.J.Srinibabu 9841195273, Co-ordinator Mrs.Rajalakshmi 9444532409

5. The existing parks should be spruced up and provided with more amenities and if possible, new parks to be created wherever public space is available to maintain better ecology and green environment. 6. Top priority should be given in proper removal of street garbages at frequent intervals, domestic garbages daily, to keep clean Valasaravakkam. More lorries should be engaged in the disposal of garbages. Letter to Dy. Area Engineer, Chennai Metro and sewerage Board, Chennai 87 In Valasaravakkam, in wards 149 &152, the metro water supply is erratic and most of the households in many nagars like Palaniappa Nagar, Veerappa Nagar, Sri Karumari Amman Nagar, Kamakodi Nagar and Kamatchi Nagar etc. which has been reported several times, do not get metro water in their domestic pipes. But they are paying regularly the necessary taxes. The water pipe lines are very old and unable to withstand pressure and gets broken frequently. The pipe lines should be replaced immediately. The area engineer assured the delegation to take steps immediately for proper supply of water. She confirmed that the water pipe lines are replaced and the contractors have started the works. S. Ganapathy, President, Federation of Valasaravakkam Civic Welfare Associations

hen one or a few teeth are lost then a fixed replacement may be possible. The fixed replacement may be in the form of 1. Implants and crowns 2. Implants supported bridge 3. Implants and tooth/teeth supported bridge 4. Teeth supported bridge. The most common method is the teeth supported bridge. For having teeth supported bridge there has to be : 1.Natural teeth on either end of the gap created by the lost tooth/teeth, 2.The

adjacent to lost teeth become sensitivity to hot and cold. v. Caries develop at the surfaces where food entrapment occur. vi.Migration of tooth or teeth from the opposite arch result in injurious occlusion which make the teeth in both the jaws weak shown by loss of supporting bone and teeth become painful. vii. Loss of one or more back teeth are also found to cause habitual clenching of teeth as well as involuntary night grinding of teeth called as bruxism. viii.

When one tooth is lost it is replaced with the support of one tooth on either side of the vacant space. When more than one tooth is lost, the dentist will judge the support required for a successful retention of the bridge. It may require the support of only one tooth on either side or more than one tooth on each side. What are the

teeth on either end of the gap should be healthy enough to support the load exerted on the additional tooth/teeth they are bearing. A sketch representing a dental bridge is shown here. The two healthy teeth on either side are shaped to receive cap or crown. The replacement teeth are attached to the two caps on either side. The two caps are cemented on the natural teeth shaped to receive them. This unit can function just like natural teeth and is the Dental Bridge. Why are Dental Bridges made? : Bridges are artificial replacements for lost natural teeth. It is necessary to replace lost natural teeth because A. When Replaced : i.They help in chewing of food which is essential for the nutrition from the food to get absorbed by the body. ii.They decrease the excessive stress otherwise exerted on the remaining teeth. iii. They decrease the excessive wear of the remaining teeth. iv.They restore back the lost esthetic and function. B. When NOT Replaced : i. Loss of a chewing tooth can slowly destabilize the remaining teeth over a period of time, ii. The jaw joint (temporo-mandibular joint) problems can occur resulting in headaches, neck pain, and ear aches. iii. Tilting and migration of teeth occur resulting in food entrapment between teeth. iv.Teeth

It causes excessive wear of remaining teeth which result in 1. Sensitivity of teeth to hot and cold. 2. Loss of vertical height of the back teeth. 3. Proclination of front teeth. 4. Over-closure of jaw. 5. Loss of facial height and aged appearance. The tilting and migration of teeth are more rapid in younger individuals and more disturbing in the older individuals. Some of the destabilization movements seen in patients are shown in the pictures of x-rays of some of the patients. When a full compliment of teeth is present in good alignment the force exerted while chewing in one area is dissipated to all the teeth which thus share a part of the load. But when a tooth is lost in between, then the stress is borne by less number of teeth and all the teeth are affected to some extent. Many times unknown headaches, neck pain, ear pain, jaw pain and dental pain are caused by the destabilization of occlusion. Currently in many parts of the world exclusive head ache clinics are opened where a dental surgeon forms an important integral part of the specialists who assess the cause for headaches and render treatment. For the above mentioned reasons it is essential to replace lost molar teeth and the easiest method is by means of a bridge work. How many teeth will be involved in a Bridge work?:

consequences of shaping good teeth to support the bridge? : There are no serious consequences of shaping a tooth to support a bridge when precautions are taken to protect the pulp of the supporting teeth. Often it is also suggested to have root canal treatment for the supporting teeth. Root canal treatment will prevent the hyper sensitivity of the shaped teeth to hot and cold which occasionally remain for a number of days. It will also prevent the future problems that sometimes occur associated with the excessive stress on the pulp of these teeth. With what materials are the posterior bridges made of?: They can be made with metal alloys for dental use, porcelain fused to metal, resin fused to metal and fiber re-infused resins. All metal bridges are poor in esthetic else they serve well. Resin may require repair every few years as they wear away. Hence, of the above four types of materials the most common choice is the porcelain fused to metal. They appear very natural and enhance esthetics with excellent function. Namo - all the way

I

t is evident that the entire nation has said a resounding, tsunomic and significant 'yes' to a second term for Narendra Modi. The victory is historic and a landslide one in the 17th General Elections, making him unchallenged and undisputed leader. The 2014 elections catapulted the BJP to the primary position relegating the congress to a distant second. The current election is viewed as an endorsement of his persona and popularity to the pinnacle of glory with a distinctive credibility. The BJP rolled across its bastion in the north, west, central, east and northeastern parts of India with a few southern states. BJP's vote share surged from 170 million votes in 2014 to 220 million votes in 2019. The result is proincumbency mandate, the first after several decades. The voters have stamped their approval for his leadership, honesty, programs and policies and schemes delivered in the last 5 years on development planks benefitting the common man. In U.P alone, the vote share shot up from 42.6% to 49.5% negating the impact of Mahagadh bandhans in making structural shifts in the political arena and largely voted for him beyond caste politics. It made significant incursions and inroads in the southern states like Karnataka and Telangana and eastern states like West Bengal and Odisha. The party

had won 303 seats decimating the congress to a low ebb. Never in the history of India that a party lost by a landslide in state assembly elections 6 months back in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh then came back with a landslide win in the same states like a magic. Nobody can assess the people's mentality, moods and determination. Nearly 100 million first time voters broke the tradition of caste barriers cast their ballots in favour of Modi in U.P alone choosing the person over caste considerations. These young Indians are mesmerised by his electric speeches, the image he projects as a decisive and resolute leader who works for 18-20 hours daily, an unattached man free from corruption, family ties, free from dynastic politics, a watchman protecting the nation and his crisp nationalistic fervour etc. He effectively made hundreds of campaigns throughout India spelling out his performances and development for all, trust of all made his speech like a mantra which attracted everybody's attention. Under Modi, delivery of social programs got an impetus. Sanitation coverage is increased from 39% to 89% and every village was electrified. 10000 k.ms of highways had been added every year, 160 million people were covered under Mudhra loans. The message of 'clean India' began to resonate with every village in the country. Corruption and black money

were pursued with vigour as never before. Modi government played a major role in the Pulwama terror strike and India's response was dovetailed into BJP's campaigns. His action on the terrorists were stupendous. His image got a boost after Balakote strike. His external relationships and keeping friendliness with all countries is superb and need a special mention. The congress fared badly despite putting spirited fight but failed to slowdown the Modi Juggernaut. No doubt, the 2019 results have produced coherence and stability, energetic democratization but overall vigilance will be needed in defence of the very republic. The country needs plethora of various reforms in many sectors for overall development, providing quality inputs to people. The BJP has the enough mandate and trust of the people to steer ahead and be bold enough to push through for achieving a 'Complete Welfare State', all the people to enjoy the fruits of developments and lead a happy and contented life. Will he succeed and deliver his orginal promises on jobs and developments?

Maha Periyava's Upadesa Rathinangal The Great Vedas have pronounced and preached various types of Dhana and Dharmams i.e various virtuous deeds to follow by everybody to lead a peaceful and happy life. A great scholar by name Hemadri in the Rashtrakudha region had written an holy book which is named as 'Dhana Hemadri. This great book was written by him 700 years back. He cites various good points from a book written 200 years back before him called as 'Mundhi Lakshmitharar.' He lived in a place called as Kannouj. Shri Lakshmidharar has written in that precious book specifying various types of Dhanams. He has narrated in that book that Dhanam is not only giving any material objects but also Vidhya Dhanam ie educating a person. Dhanam is also called by building dams, tanks and

various good deeds that is very beneficial to the society. The Vedas preach Dhanam in all slokas everywhere and specifies it's importance. The Brahadaranys Upanishad greatly and notably quotes so many philosophies. It is narrated in the middle by quoting a story to understand the efficacy and concepts. Devas, Asuras and mankind are all the children of Lord Brahma, the creator. The Lord has created three types as Devas, Asuras

and Manushya, mankind according to their qualities. He has pronounced some good advices to each and every one of them for their goodness. Once, all the devas went to Lord Brahma propitiated before Him by paying obeisance to tell a short story to follow up. Lord Brahma immediately told them a word "Dha' and this is his Upadesa to follow up. Can you understand the concept? They soon understood about their folly of non adhearance of control of the sense organs, fetching pleasures always. Devas always lead a life full of enjoying sensual pleasures in their Devaloga. Then they said to Lord Brahma that they are aware of the spelt word called as Dhamyatha. It specifies about controlling the mind and sense organs which are the twin factors.

he 12th edition of the ICC World Cup 2019 in England is set to feature a total of 10 teams. The format is such that each team will play the other team once with the top four teams staking a claim in the semi-finals stage. Let us examine the prospects of five of the ten participating teams who are in with a better chance of making it to the last-four stages. It would finally boil down to the results of the head-to-head matches amongst these 5 teams. South Africa : The South African team has always been associated with the phrase "chokers" when it comes to ICC tournaments. But this time, it is going to be different for South Africa since they have a balanced team to suit the conditions in England. To start with, they have experience in their batting line-up with the presence of Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis and JP Duminy. Bur South Africa's strength lies in its fast bowling resources. They have at their disposal three quickest bowlers of the tournament in Dale Steyn, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi. They are ably supported by the plethora of bowling all-rounders such as Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo and Dwaine Pretorius. For spin, Imran Tahir will hold the aces. This team has the potential to reach the last four with a little bit of luck and if the batsmen manage to put runs on the board, the bowlers should do the job for them. New Zealand : New Zealand is in the same boat as South Africa. They too have a strong pace bowling attack like South Africa with Trent Boult and Tim Southee set to lead the bowling unit. Boult, in particular has proved time and again that on conditions that suit swing bowling, he has proved to be more than a handful for the best of batting units. Trent Boult's opening bowling partner Tim Southee is effective with both the new ball in the powerplay and at the death. Lockie Ferguson's raw pace offers an extra dimension for the pace battery while the alliance of Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi provide variety in the spin department. New Zealand's batting line-up wears a settled look with the presence of Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson,

Ross Taylor and Tom Latham at the top. The top order is very well backed up by allrounders in the form of Colin de Grandhomme, James Neesham and Mitchell Santner as well. Overall, with the firepower at their disposal, the minimum expectation from the New Zealand team is to reach the semi-finals. Australia : The Australia team is the most successful team in World Cup history, with five titles in eleven editions of the league and with the return of David Warner and Steve Smith to the squad, the defending champions will prove to be a strong team this tournament. The pace department wears a solid look with the presence of seasoned campaigners Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, while Jason Behrendorff's exploits in the recent past will make him a potent player in the powerplay overs with the moving ball. Aaron Finch and David Warner's alliance will be back at the top of the order for the Australians while the middle order oozes stability with Steve Smith, Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh proven players in the middle order. Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis' big-hitting abilities and contribution with the ball has cemented their place in the starting eleven while Adam Zampa quickish leg-spinners could be useful on a turning track. While the playing eleven looks formidable, Australia also enjoys a strong bench and will prove to be a team to watch out for in this edition of the World Cup. England : The hosts England are one of the favorites to win this World Cup. They have the resources and can bank on the home conditions to take in confidence in their surge towards claiming their first ever World Cup title. The England batting has been in ominous form, scoring 340+ in four of the five games against Pakistan. The England openers in Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow are in top form and it appears as though no total

is beyond their reach. Even if the openers falter, they have a solid middle-order to back them up in Joe Root, skipper Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes. Jos Buttler's and Moeen Ali's finishing skills, if they come to the party could be demolishing. Their fast bowling contingent of Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, and Tom Curran have looked incisive and with the addition of the pacy Jofra Archer, who has troubled batsmen in the recent past with his searing pace and bounce, the England bowling attack looks well set for the pitches on offer. In the spin department, England has a well-rounded attack with Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali in the squad. It seems that England has all its bases covered for this World Cup and could perhaps be on their way to their maiden World Cup title. India : If wishes and prayers could win a World Cup title for a team, India would be on top of that list forever. However, it is the players' skills and a bit of fortune that make a champion. The Indian squad for the 2019 World Cup has a number of match winners. This team has in it the World's best batsman, best bowler, best wicket-keeper and the best fielder. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are one of the leading opening pairs in the world while MS Dhoni's composure adds a lot of depth to the batting unit. The presence of versatile players like Hardik Pandya, who has been enjoying a purple patch of late, Vijay Shankar and Ravindra Jadeja should add a lot of depth to both departments. The fast bowling department is well served by the combination of ace seamer Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami. However, the trump card for India will be the efficiency of the two wrist-spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal and their wicket-taking abilities in the middle-overs in batting friendly conditions should play to India's advantage. If India could overcome their minor deficiencies, they could triumph yet again at the home of cricket. Can Kohli emulate Kapil and Dhoni?
