In the event of contagious illness, the parent will be required to remove the child and not return until danger of contagion is past. In all emergencies, staff members will take reasonable measures necessary for the safety and welfare of the child including accessing 911 services. MEDICATION & ILLNESS Nursing staff is available for the care of your child at RWYC during the Summer Term session with a focus on first-aid care of injuries, illness that may develop while at RWYC, and emergency medication management. Medications: Due to the high number of children at RWYC, as well as the many activities offered, only management of emergency medication for the following specific conditions will be provided: - Emergency inhalers for asthma - Epi-pens for severe allergic reactions - Anti-seizure medications requiring specified dosage times during center hours Other medications including antibiotics and behavior disorder medications, should be given while members are not at RWYC. Member Handbook For the safety of your child, any new medication or change in dosage of current medication should be administered at home and the child kept at home under parental supervision for 24 hours following the administration of/change to medication prior to returning to RWYC. This policy allows parents to monitor for any potential side effects, as well as effectiveness of the medication. Please visit or call to speak with a nurse for any questions/concerns regarding medication management. First-aid/Injury: The nurse possesses basic supplies available for care of cuts/scrapes/bumps/bruises and other minor conditions. The following first-aid supplies will be used in treatment: - Calamine Lotion- itching/rashes - Aloe Vera- sunburns - Salt- sore throat/ oral care for blisters/sores - Ice/cold packs- anti-inflammatory Should any of these not be used in treating your child, please see the nurse. Splinting will be used as necessary for possible fractures and parents will be contacted to take the child for further medical care. Parents/guardians will be notified of serious injury or health concerns requiring the child to be picked up, or if it is the professional recommendation of the nurse for the child to see a physician. In the case of emergency, when it is necessary for the well-being of the child, emergency services will be contacted. Illness: If your child is found to have a temperature of 100.0 or higher, vomiting, or diarrhea, you will be contacted to pick the child up. Please keep your child at home until these conditions are not present for 24 hours without the use of medications. The child should be treated with an appropriate lice elimination shampoo before returning to RWYC. A child that has been excluded from RWYC for lice shall be readmitted to RWYC upon: - Examination by the RWYC nurse/screener prior to readmission to RWYC. - The nurse/screener will assess for effectiveness of treatment and will readmit the student when no signs of live lice are present. However, in the event that staff members are concerned about a child’s welfare, we must reveal confidential information to agencies or individuals who are empowered to act in the best interests of the child. DISCIPLINE RWYC uses redirection, discussion, and “time-out” for discipline. If this does not correct the problem, other action will be taken to include notes/phone calls to parents and possible suspension from the club. Field trips are a privilege and attendance on a trip may be taken away for misbehavior on a field trip or while attending the Club. RWYC reserves the right to dismiss any member.
