(OMS T150 Committee - Convener)

It is with great privilege that I come before you today to address the Musical Extravaganza ‘mrmqrl werUqu’ organized by the Oriental Music Society to celebrate the commissioning of the new ‘Oriental Music Area’.

Early January, Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara, approached the Past Students of the Oriental Music Society with a request from Mr. Chamila Meddegoda, (Master in Charge of Oriental Music Society) for help in purchasing much-needed Musical Instruments.

We embarked on this project immediately by taking estimates from suppliers and appointing members of our team for technical and professional assistance. The organizing committee spearheaded the fund collection. Initiated a robust program that made it possible for us to collect necessary funding within 28 days, a record in the 150-year history of our Alma Mater.

Despite all odds, with Sri Lanka going through its worst economic, political; and social unrest, with Schools being closed for over 2 years due to Covid 19 pandemic, the past students with unstinted support from the school administration were able to purchase instruments and commence the renovations of the new Arena.

I’m extremely humbled to inform you all that today marks a day to remember as we commission the New Oriental Music Area and Instruments to our Alma Mater.

To my dear students at Trinity, these Instruments and the facility are for you. We are confident that you, under the able guidance of Mr. Chamila Meddegoda will be able to take Oriental Music to the pinnacle at Trinity and obtain professionalism in Music and aesthetics.

I take this opportunity to thank Rev. Fr Principal, the administrative team, past students and their families, and well-wishers for their support in making this dream project a reality.

Last, but not least, on behalf of the past students of the Oriental Music Society, I would like to present this Memento to Rev. Fr. Arajiya Jayasundara to commemorate the commissioning of the “Oriental Music Arena”

Thank you, Ladies and Gentlemen
