7 PM CST CLOSEOUT BIDDING ON DLMS FARM GATE CATTLE VIEWING ON FARM | FISHER BRANCH, MB

2025 has been a year for the record books in the beef industry, hasn’t it?! Last year when we shipped our steers at the end of September, our 8-weight steers brought $2990 per head. We never thought we’d see prices like that ever again! Enter 2025, blowing last year’s market out of the water. I culled a 17 year old cow a month ago. Let’s face it, she was a bag of bones, definitely looked her age. That old girl who didn’t owe me a penny, made me $2540! That’s as much as my lighter steers made me last year! The last time I sold an old cow in similar condition, I made $300. That sure brings things into perspective, doesn’t it? This year, our 8-weight steers brought over $4450 per head. No matter how one wants to look at the current prices, it sure is a great time to have cattle!
With these strong prices, there has been a lot of chatter about whether now is the time to be buying in breeding females. In the purebred industry, it is always the time to source your next elite breeding piece, the next piece of your puzzle. The next piece to advance your program. In the commercial industry, calf prices influence those decisions much more heavily. I read a very good article in September about this topic. It argued that although the prices of bred females are higher now, so are calf prices, and even if calf prices slip some in the next year or two, they will most likely stay higher than where the prices were a few years ago. With that being said, higher prices for bred females seem harder to stomach, but the ROI is also greater and is at a higher % of purchase price than ever before. So the verdict? Buy now! Buy some females!
This past calving season, Dustin and I calved out 150 head with a toddler in toe, and swore we’d never do that again (unless we hired some help). Good help is hard to find anywhere in the agriculture world, and it’s especially hard to find where we live. So, it looks like it’s just going to be Dustin and I (and our now four year old son) again this calving season. The extra fun part is that our numbers are now just shy of 200 head... oops! To be honest, we see an opportunity in the industry right now and our original plan to downsize the cow herd has gone out the window (for now anyway)!
With that said, we did have some bull trouble this spring. It forced us to extend our breeding season way beyond our normal window, but we knew that a bred female was going to be worth too much to let a cow or heifer go open over the head of a bull that didn’t work. With our ambitious plan to calve out 200 head this coming season, plus plan and execute a 50-head bull sale, we are looking to streamline the calving season as much as possible. The most unfortunate thing about bull issues is that they don’t spare the best females. Sadly enough, we have some very good cows and bred heifers that got bred for March. Dustin and I will be right out of steam by the time March rolls around, so we have no interest in trying to calve anything after our bull sale at the end of February. Once the bulls are sold we need a few weeks of down time to get the bulls delivered, the herd vaccinated and organized to start breeding before the end of the month. Calving is not part of our wish list for March. My point is that some good females are in this sale simply because they got involved in a bull wreck. We also have some earlier bred heifers on offer that are bred A.I. or to our heifer bull that we purchased for $52,500 this spring.
On the open heifer end of things, we have been eagerly awaiting the chance to market our first Tangleflags heifers! Only five breeding programs in all of Canada have his calves on the ground this year, us being one of them. Some of those programs don’t sell open heifers. That means that this sale presents one of very few opportunities to step into a Tangleflags daughter in his first calf crop! We have selected a quiet group of heifers that include breeder quality options, and options for juniors who are looking for a 4-H project or a new addition to expand their herd.
As always, our heifers are presented fresh and ready to work. The open heifers are being fed the exact same diet as our keep heifers. The bred heifers are in good condition to calve without issue. I’d take a fresh bred heifer over a roly poly fat one any day. As far as cows go, the cows in this sale have seen zero extra feed. We literally videoed them right off pasture. I have bought my fair share of sale-fed cows over the past four years and those fat cows are no good for anyone. What you see is what you get with our sale and we like to keep it that way! These breds and cows need to lay down and calve for you in another two to four months, they should not carry the condition of a finished steer! That’s the beauty of hosting our own sale. The feeding competition gets left behind and we are free to manage our cattle the way we see fit. Keeping things real is the best way to go, in our opinion!
The three bred cows that we are offering this year might start a new and growing trend for us going forward. As I already mentioned, our herd is at its max so we have to start selling some good cows every year in order to keep our herd size constant (or downsize). The cows on offer in this sale are three and four years old. They have many productive years ahead of themselves yet, so take a good look at them. If we are happy with how they sell, we might bring a bigger offering of bred cows for next year.
As always, please reach out to me with any questions or interest that you may have in the offering. Pre-sale tours are always welcome and encouraged! Thanks to all of our repeat customers, many of which have become friends, for your continued support! We look forward to working with many new customers as well!
Cheers, Jennilee

Lots 1 and 2 are flush sisters from an outstanding flush crossing the $210,000 Tangleflags on our most prepotent red donor, Sprinkles. This was an extremely successful flush resulting in five heifers and six bulls. A handful of them came dark red, more than half came with blaze faces and all of them are high quality! Only five exclusive breeding shares were sold on Tangleflags in his first year, so we are very excited to be one of those five and offering some of the first and only Tangleflags heifers to sell this year! As exciting as Tangleflags is, though, credit needs to be given where it’s due. The support photos for these two lots prove that Sprinkles is a true donor, stamping her beautiful look on every calf she produces, regardless of sire. While touring here a few summers ago, Taylor Richards said that she is one of the most consistent donors he has seen. Sprinkles has only proven herself more since that compliment was given, and after spending all of last year rebuilding her embryo inventory, you can bet she is a cow that we will continue to build on. Take your pick with these two beauties and feel confident that you have tied into some predictable genetics. We have spent the year contemplating if we like the Tangleflags bulls or heifers more as both sexes have been so good all summer, but as we have progressed into the fall, I think I am leaning towards the heifers a touch more. The udder development on these heifers is looking like perfection. Lot 1 is a near replica of her beautiful dam in so many ways. Lot 2 is the only dark red blaze faced heifer that we got from the flush, so you can bet that she’s hard to part with! They both offer admirable softness, depth of rib, length and style. Both will also offer a touch of calving ease once they get into production, courtesy of Sprinkles.

These are the last Sprinkles embryos that we will sell from our flush work last year. The now deceased No Limits will cross nicely with her, adding the extra power and frame, while Sprinkles stamps her softness and look. Together their excellent foot quality and soundness will lock in the fundamentals. The resulting progeny will be red or black, and their outcross pedigree will offer flexibility. We have not implanted these embryos ourselves yet, so join us on the frontline this spring!

This beautiful Tangleflags heifer is an eye catcher. From her pretty little head to her big rib and hip, she is a show stopper. A near replica of her beautiful young dam, I expect her to look a lot like momma in a few more years. Her granddam was one of the famous Soda Pop heifers that took Friday Night Lights by storm in 2014. When the opportunity to buy a flush on 422B came up, I made sure I was the highest bidder that day. Right around that time was when Windy Hill had sold the four 56U x 422B flush sisters in their bull sale. You may remember those gorgeous heifers finding homes in some of the top programs in the country. I decided to do a split flush on 422B with Dynasty and 56U, in hopes that I could create some of my own 56U full sisters. I still have a few embryos left in the tank, but to this day I’ve only got Dynasty calves from the flush! The Dynasty cross has been excellent though, stacking the maternal strength of Sage 506C and Capacity on the Soda Pop deal seemed like a no brainer at the time. 81K is my favorite from the flush so far. She has always been stunning like 120N, right from a young age. The udder development on 120N is looking impeccable, as is the case with all of the Tangleflags heifers here. Some of the breed’s most beautiful and productive cows fill 120N’s pedigree, including the dam of Tangleflags who is a show stopper herself. Needless to say, 120N is maternally bred. If you want one to have some fun with showing, or if you just want a solid production female that should have the prepotency to stamp her look on her calves, make sure you keep hitting that bid button on sale day!

32C, who anchors our new “Linda” cow family, was our pick of the Sun Rise Dispersal in 2022, commanding $22,500 that day. We were drawn to her massive rib shape and overall capacity, balanced in a feminine package with excellent feet, udder quality, effortless movement and that dark red colour. 32C will not flush conventionally, so we sent her all the way to Abbotsford, BC last December, where she froze a very healthy inventory of IVF embryos. Both matings are fresh and exciting. Dunlop offers a very outcross pedigree. His pedigree with Landmark and the beautiful NUG Rock 130F cow screams maternal. Tangleflags, whose semen sold for a record $2100 per dose in December last year, has proven to stamp his look, power and lots of blaze faces on his progeny. I think his type will complement that of 32C beautifully and I expect this to be a power mating. A granddaughter of 32C sells as lot 8, raised by our first Linda daughter in production.

21N has been a standout all summer. Born from a gorgeous first calf heifer and weaning off at 762 lbs on September 17, what more could you ask of a two year old who has also rebred early for next year? The Timely cow family has been in our program for 20 years. 21N’s great great granddam is the KLC Miss Timely 106L cow who was one of the very first Simmental cows I had ever purchased. They are highly fertile, high milking, docile, very maternal, good footed, and all but one of them have had a blaze face. 21N’s granddam, 16F, is on my short list to flush. The WTL x 16F cross has been fire, as we also have a full sister to 10L in our bred heifer group. She ranks in our top two red breds and is almost a spitting image of 10L, maybe even better. It is well known that Top Tier females turn into beautiful cows, and I would expect 21N to mature into a very good cow that will be capable of breeding blaze faces onto her calves. This heifer does toe out on her fronts, but otherwise she is pretty complete.

This is the first Beauty female to leave our program. 49N is on offer only because I have a beautiful three year old sister in the herd, who also raised another impressive Beauty heifer to expand the cow family. I purchased the granddam of 49N, Beauty 33U, back in 2016 with the intention to turn her into a donor, only to learn after the sale that the cow would not flush. 33U was pregnant with the dam of 49N at the time, and gave me another heifer the following year, then suffered a major spinal injury during breeding season and had to be put down. Both 33U daughters are still producing here and are very good cows. 1E , the dam of 49N, was my pet as a baby and has maintained that quiet disposition to this day, but she was injured badly at about 3 months of age. The injury permanently damaged her front leg, which is why you won’t see an updated picture of 1E anywhere. Despite her mobility issues, that injury has never stopped 1E from being very fertile and raising a top calf year after year. It truly speaks volumes about the maternal ability and longevity of this cow. 1E is sired by a fullblood bull, so that extra shot of milk and maternal has made her into a very strong producer and I think 49N will follow in her footsteps. Just look at 49N’s stats, being born at only 80 lbs and weaning off on September 8 at just shy of 800 lbs. If you’re looking for a very docile heifer that could be a fun junior project, then also mature into a good producing cow down the road, I would suggest giving 49N a good look. She’s very laid back and easy going, just like her dam, and also has to be admired for her length of body, rib shape and nice front third.

This fancy heifer comes by her good looks honestly. Her sire is backed by some of the most gorgeous cows that have built the IRCC program in Ontario, and her own dam and granddam are no slouches either. Her dam, 40L, was my top pick of our heifer calves in 2023 and was halter broke with intentions to show her that fall. We never did get out to a show that year, but 40L’s more important days are ahead of her any way. The granddam of this heifer is catalogued as Lot 5. She is one of our new red donors who is just gearing up to make her mark on our program now that I managed to build a large embryo inventory from her. The 32C cow is a very impressive cow to lay eyes on in the flesh. 40L came a little more refined and elegant in her make, and she clicked very nicely with Kaboom for her first calf. 77N has a very nice set of EPDs and some extra calving ease bred in, plus foot quality is very strong through her pedigree. I think she could be a competitive show heifer if a more experienced junior was wanting to pick one to have some fun with. She is balanced, correct and nice in her lines, fluid on the move, and has a look that grabs your attention.

If you have been following our program for any length of time, you will know that we rarely part with any Impact daughters. Lots 9, 10 and 11A give you an unprecedented opportunity to invest in not only one, but three direct Impact daughters! Impact has been, hands down, THE best bull that we have ever had the privilege to use in our program. I’m not sure that we’ll ever find another one quite like him. We have countless daughters in the herd and have sold countless sons over the years. They are tremendously good footed cattle with ideal body type, hair type, easy doing ability and maternal strength, made only more unique by their prepotent inheritance of short gestation length, translating into high calving ease combined with curve-bending growth! The bulls are masculine, fertile and big nutted. The daughters are feminine, fertile and have very nice udders. Cinder 29N is a testatment to those traits, proving how Impact wraps everything up in one very complete package. 29N was our #1 ranking heifer at weaning with a ratio of 110. Out of 29 contemporaries, she topped the entire group, weaning off of her first time momma at 772 lbs on Sept 17, or 67% of her dam’s body weight! There is a reason why we have held our Impact daughters so tightly over the years. They are such valuable breeding pieces. You have to love the extra femininity of this heifer, too. Her gorgeous head with sharp ear set grabs your attention every time. She is long bodied and offers a touch extra frame, whereas most Impacts are moderate in size. The Cinder cow family has been superb here over the years, with 17C being the anchor and maintaining an excellent udder even in her tenth year of production. For the first time in a few years, we had several Impact heifers born in 2025, plus a couple of granddaughters. As such, we felt that we had an opportunity to share one with the industry.

As rare as it is for us to sell an Impact daughter, it is even more rare to sell a daughter that is already in production. Take a look here because this truly is a rarity. We ran into some bull trouble this spring, which forced us to extend our breeding season longer than normal. In turn, we have some cows and bred heifers that are bred outside of our usual calving window. Dustin and I are going to be calving just shy of 200 head by ourselves this winter, so the idea of having some stragglers calving in March makes us exhausted just to think about it. Our herd has grown to it’s max and now we are forced to look for reasons to sell good cows. 55J has landed in that category, but she is young and still has a whole lifetime ahead of her. She is a massive bodied, smaller to moderate framed female that is almost as wide as she is tall. Puppy dog quiet, you can pet her in the pasture and she is a pleasure to handle. Her service to Mandate could be cool.
As a first calf heifer, 55J raised a Mandate daughter (90L) that was a feature in this sale, selling to Silverdale Cattle Co., SK. 55J is still out on pasture, so her preg check is yet to be done prior to delivery.

Here is your third and final chance to tie into an Impact daughter this year. Bred up early to the best and most consistent cross that I have found to work so well on my Impacts. Walk This Way clicks with them, every single time. The calf inside 36M has a lot of potential. Honestly, I am yet to be disappointed in the WTW x Impact cross. Look at the support photos and see for yourself. Both animals pictured were born from first calf heifers, with the 3J bull being one of our high selling bulls in 2022. This spring, one of our high selling black bulls was also an Impact x WTW, born from a first calf heifer, and sold for $10,000. Also, check out the dam of Lot 14, another beautiful WTW x Impact female. To make 36M’s mating even more exciting, remember that WTW is deceased and his semen is no longer available! I can sound like a broken record talking about our Impact progeny, but 36M herself puts everything together nicely as well. Excellent footed with that Impact stamp with body type and femininity. If you compare her and Lot 9, you can sure see the similarities between them. 36M’s dam was my pick of the open heifers at the R Plus Dispersal three years ago. She sells as Lot 11B.

As mentioned in Lot 11A’s footnote, 2328K was our pick of the open heifers in the R Plus Dispersal. We bought her for $11,000 that day and really liked her outcross pedigree with Prosecution and 7172E, the $50,000 lead off cow who sold to LaBatte Simmentals, on the top side. 2328K raised Lot 11A in her first year of production and rebred early by A.I. to Kaboom for her second year, giving us a bull in mid-January. He looks good and will sell in our upcoming bull sale at the end of February. She is a larger framed, long bodied cow who held her condition nicely in her first year of production. She has square toes, which I like, but when we pulled her from the herd to record her sale video, I noticed that her toes on her hind left foot are long. I have never touched her feet so hopefully she just needs to tip those toes off so she can continue to maintain that foot herself. 2328K was exposed to one of the bulls who gave us some breeding issues, so I believe the bull is to blame for her breeding date getting pushed later. She was pulled from that problem bull then exposed to Protest, and settled to her first service with him. 2328K has a whole liftetime ahead of her still so I am hopeful that she will catch herself back up for the future, but unfortunately she’s just due too late for us this year. Her service to Protest has some value, though. He is a big, soggy, stout, athletic and extremely good footed son of Tycoon x WFL Red Sage 506C. Protest continues to be our “who’s that?!” bull when people see him in the pasture. We have only sold a few cows bred his way by private treaty before, so this is a fairly unique opportunity to get a hold of his service. We have found that his sons are good and his daughters are awesome.

In my quest to make females, I decided to flush Sabrina to Boomshakalaka. Other than Liner 56U, I’m not sure that there is another seasoned bull that consistently makes such beautiful females. After I did the flush, I found out that Boom can throw extra chrome. The extra chrome takes nothing away from how good 30M is, though. We sold three other flush sisters in our sale last year. One now walks the mountains in BC at 60 Ranch, the other, Sabrina 49M, wore a halter this summer for the Duguid girls here in MB, winning her class just about every time she stepped in the ring! The third flush sister was our high seller at $9500 in this sale last year, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, unfortunately that heifer ended up staying with us. On one hand we were disappointed, but on the other hand, we love 55M and were happy to keep her in our program. Which brings me to 30M and explains why she is now up for grabs. She is a quiet, bigger framed heifer with ideal length of body, lots of rib shape, and as expected from her pedigree, her udder is looking very nice. She has an early service to the $52,500 heifer bull we bought in the spring. We liked that he was out of a Riddler dam as the Riddlers have turned out to be some of our most productive and maternal black cows over the last 10 years. A blaze faced heifer calf out of 30M would be cool!

Sale feature! It breaks my heart to offer 51M for sale. She was my favorite Sabrina heifer born last year from a very large flush. Her massive rib shape and depth gives her an easy doing look that I love. She is moderate framed with a nice little head, clean front third, good udder development and quiet disposition (she is a pet and loves attention). Why bad luck has to happen to the good ones, I really don’t know. We had issues with our heifer bull this spring and unfortunately 51M got tangled up in the mess, resulting in her getting bred too late for our program. I have contemplated every scenario between keeping her and selling her, but the only one that really makes sense is to let her go to a program where she will better fit their breeding season. As sad as I am to let her go, I am optimistic that she will have a bright future. Her very special dam has generated the greatest ROI of any cow that we have owned. In 3.5 years, Sabrina has earned over $130,000 in sales for us. We have never owned a donor like Sabrina, who is capable of freezing 35 #1 embryos in a single flush, time and time again. Both bulls and heifers have proven to be valuable and so good in their quality, but we have had many more bulls born than heifers over the years. Sabrina is almost 12 and her flush results are becoming erratic, so it is time to start pulling back from selling her daughters and embryos. Invest in a Sabrina while you can!

133L is a beautiful Caliber daughter from one of our top young cows and top cow families. The “Blackie” cow family has been around for the last 20 years, anchored by KLC Miss Bring 321N, who joined my dad’s herd in 2005 as the very first black Simmental cow. Since 321N was the only black cow on the place, we affectionately called her “Blackie”. Back when this cow family started, my naming choices were inconsistent, so the cow family actually includes the Whisper, Wisdom and Xana cow lines. 321N lived a long life in our herd, being flushed a few times before being culled at 16 years of age. Her best daughter, Whisper 76T, was flushed as well, as was a daughter of 76T, Wisdom 4W. That means three generations backing 133L have been flushed, with her beautiful dam also on my radar as one we might flush in the future. The longevity and productivity of these “Blackie” females is second to none. The entire cow family have always had excellent feet, udders, milking ability, fertility and docility. 133L’s dam, 1J, raised an awesome Boone Pickens bull in year one, 133L in year two, and this year, another stunning heifer (see picture on page 7). 133L herself is so feminine with a great udder dropping and she is a sweetie. Her photo and video do not do her justice. She is so quiet, it was impossible to make her look alert. She is friendly and likes attention. The only reason she sells is because of her breeding date, which is no fault of her own. She was bred by the MRL bull, but he had been giving us trouble so we also covered her with an A.I. to Kaboom to be safe. The calf will need a DNA test to verify parentage. We are more than willing to cover the cost of the test if you wish.

Like Lot 14, 34J also traces back to Whisper 76T. She was a beautiful cow, had been shown and won Reserve Champion Female at the Harding Fair in 2014, and also lived a long life before being put down due to an injury at 13 years of age. 34J’s dam, 16D, is still producing at coming 10 years of age. 16D is as docile as they come and has always calved early. She has put three females through our sales over the years, a lead off Impact son was featured in our 2021 bull sale, and a Caliber son is coming up for our 2026 sale. 34J is a big framed, big bodied, stout Witness daughter with tremendous foot quality. She stands square and true on all four corners. 34J raised a nice Mandate heifer in her first year, which sold through this sale to Crooked Creek Farms, MB. She had twins this year. We lost the little one to illness, but the other bull will sell in our February bull sale. He is a nice Kaboom calving ease option with an attractive look. If you value quiet cows that are easy to work with, 34J is exactly that and would be a pleasure to have in any herd. Unfortunately, she was also a victim of our bull breeding issues and got pushed later than we’d like. She is young and should have a long life ahead of her still. We purchased her service sire for $52,500 in March. If she gives you a bull, she just might raise your next herd sire. She is still out on pasture so her preg check will be done once we move her home in the coming weeks.

Sale feature! Our red bred heifer offering is small this year, but we loaded some really good red options into the open heifer section to make up for it. 101M was supposed to be an untouchable, but with our red numbers being low, I knew I had to part with something special for a feature bred. She is one of the youngest “M” heifers with being born in our February group of embryo calves, but she has always kept pace with her early January counterparts. She was the top gainer in her contemporary group and weaned with a ratio of 110. If you’re looking for a heifer to add some frame, she will do it. She is big and she gets her size from her dam. Sage 11H is one of our donors, having been flushed to Walk The Line and Tycoon. Her Tycoon heifers headlined this sale last year, and her WTL sons headlined our bull sale this spring. She is a big, beautiful cow with a great udder that milks very well. 11H can really raise a calf! There is also a lot of predictability in this WTL x Sage 11H cross as it has been repeatedly impressive. This spring, our high selling Lot 1 bull was a full brother to 101M. Memphis 38M is one of the most impressive bulls we have raised and we are using him in our program through A.I. Then this year, 11H gave us twin full brothers to 38M and 101M, both of which are at the very top of our bull pen once again. I showed one of those bulls at the MSA Summer Show in June and he won Champion Bull Calf as well as overall Grand Champion Simmental Bull. 101M is a big time power female that deserves serious consideration. She has what it takes to be a bull producer, just like her dam.

We featured 90M’s dam and flush sister in last year’s sale, with her sister selling to Section 17 Livestock, SK. Her dam is a beautiful young donor cow that combines some of the most sought after traits in today’s industry. Dark cherry red and a baldy face with an elegant, feminine design and impeccable, show quality udder. 84H throws more calving ease than her EPDs suggest. She has a dark cherry red, blaze face Preacher bull in the pen this year that is going to be a popular calving ease option in our upcoming bull sale. Similarly, I expect 90M to be a female that could offer some calving ease and handle being bred to some power. 90M looks like a very typical Walk The Line daughter. She is feminine in her design and very free in her movement. She is darker red in colour and nicely extended through her front third with plenty of capacity. Her EPD profile has a lot of green in it, with strong numbers across the chart. Being bred to the outcross black bull we purchased for $52,500 this spring will make for a quick ROI. MRL 4450M is hetero black so the calf could still come red, but the calf’s more outcross pedigree and strong EPD profile will make it marketable regardless of colour.

Our $26,000 Marlee is truly impressing in production. This spring the Fornwalds sold an ET son for $17,000 that they purchased from this sale as a frozen embryo. Marlee’s first natural calf, 78L, is the most impressive Impact daughter ever born here and as a two year old, 78L weaned off a heifer at 790 lbs in September, or 63% of her body weight. This year we have two Marlee sons on the ground, they are both dark cherry red and really good! As a mother cow, Marlee’s maternal instincts are flat out exceptional at calving. She is very docile, has big, square, excellent feet and an excellent udder. She also breeds on her dark red colour. Marlee is a third generation donor and a direct daughter of the rare and now deceased Tycoon. These embryos stack Liner 56U and Brooke onto Tycoon and Venom. They should result in some beautiful heifers. I’m betting the calves will be dark red, too! Sire

I purchased M62 at side of her dam at the Creekside dispersal last spring. DeKoning’s had purchased a group of commercial Angus bred cows and the dam of M62 was one of them. M62 was so impressive as a calf, she drew me into buying her dam so I could use the pair as recips for my embryo program. Her dam is very quiet, good footed, good uddered, and raised a very nice SimAngus heifer this year. M62 is a pet and loves attention. We exposed her to one of our own bulls, JNB 8M, when we gave up on our problem bull. 8M has an 85 lb BW and top 10% BW EPD.

1.Visit dlms.ca and follow the link to the DLMS FarmGate timed auction site www.farmgatetimedauctions.ca, click the LOGIN/ REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favourite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid, and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions, simply enter your user name and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions.

2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favourite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favourite list, you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity.
3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. For example, if the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you. But if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and manually bidding again, or moving your attention to a second lot of interest.
4. At closing time of the sale, the entire sale will extend bidding if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after close time will extend the sale by the time listed on each sale. In most cases, the time gets shorter the longer in to extended bidding the sale is. When no bidding occurs for the extended time, the computer will declare the sale finished.
5. Following the sale, the Owner or Sale Manager will invoice all buyers in the sale. Please contact the seller with questions or to arrange delivery, pick up or shipping of your purchases.
For more info and assistance with bidding contact any of the sale contacts listed on the DLMS website.
FAQ:
WHAT IS RACEHORSE STYLE SALE CLOSE?
Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to either continue bidding on one or more specific lots, or change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.
HOW WILL EXTENDED BIDDING WORK?
When we get to the close out end time, the clock for close extends by 5 minutes with any bid placed on any lot in the sale within that 5 minute window. This type of extended bidding turns the end time into more of a soft close. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and gives all bidders the same time to make a decision. If you get outbid on your first lot of interest during extended bidding, you can switch to bid on your second lot of interest if desired. Always follow the countdown clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.
As our sale has grown in size over the years, we have contemplated different sale formats such as sticking with the Farm Gate Timed Auction, or switching to a live sale. After weighing our options, we still feel that the Farm Gate sale is our preferred method of selling. Here’s our top reasons why:
The racehorse style sale allows us to eliminate that dreaded sale order that causes so much stress on sale day! We have all been in that position where our #1 pick is listed after our #2 pick in the sale order. Decisions... decisions... do I risk not bidding on my #2 in order to wait to try on #1? We’ve all done it, and when our #1 choice goes way out of budget, we are kicking ourselves for not just buying #2 when we had the chance!
With Farm Gate, all lots sell at the same time and you have the flexibilty to start bidding on your favorite lot, then switch to your #2 pick (or your #3, or #4, etc) if your #1 pick goes out of budget. This gives all of our customers the best chance at owning the right female or genetic opportunity for their program.
When I first started selling bulls, I sold via private treaty from our yard. My favorite part about private treaty sales was getting to know my customers on a more personal level. Learning about your program and individual preference in cattle in turn builds a closer relationship between the customer and myself, and also gives me the insight to recommend females that would be best suited for your program. This is especially valuable with sight unseen purchases.
I found that when we switched to a live sale format, much of that one-on-one interaction was lost. Sale day was always such a blur and I really disliked not having enough time to talk to customers about their needs prior to the sale starting. Not all customers choose to interact directly with me prior to the sale with using Farm Gate either, and that’s perfectly ok! But I find that it does increase the amount of interaction between my customers and myself, which I really like.
3. BETTER FOR THE CATTLE
Less stress on the cattle is a major advantage of the online sale format. The heifers get to stay at home, in their environment, on familiar feed and don’t risk getting sick or injured while being moved or sorted for a live sale. Compared to live sales that take place off-farm, there is also no biosecurity risk with the cattle picking up an illness or disease that might exist at a public sale barn. Happier, healthier heifers are better for me, my cattle and my customers.
4. CUSTOMER FEEDBACK HAS BEEN POSITIVE
The old saying, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” applies here. Covid forced us to start with the online Farm Gate sale, but we have received so much positive feedback since making the switch that we want to stick with a good thing! The flexibility to come view the offering at your leisure, to bid from the comfort of your home (or while on the road, or at a meeting, a party or your kid’s hockey game) and even just the fun of the thrill when you never know if an opposing bid is going to give you that “You’ve Been Outbid” warning!
TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash, cheque or e-transfer payable at par with settlement to be made immediately after the completion of the sale. Settlement is to be received in full by the seller upon pick up or delivery of the purchased lot(s), or within 30 days of the invoice date, whichever is sooner, unless other arrangements have been mutually agreed upon between the buyer and seller prior to sale day. If payment is made at pick up or delivery, then payment must be made by certified cheque, cash or e-transfer. All deposits are non-refundable. Interest will be charged to all balances left unpaid after 30 days. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made in full. All settlements must be made to the sellers before any cattle will be released. All monies are in Canadian funds.
BIDS: Every lot in the sale will be sold, by racehorse style auction, to the highest bidder. No by-bidding will be permitted. If you are deemed the highest bidder on any lot at the conclusion of the sale, you will be responsible for paying full purchase price to the seller, no exceptions. Failure to do so will result in you being banned from future sales hosted by Rainbow River Simmentals and DLMS.
PURCHASER’S RISK: Animals and frozen genetics become the risk of the buyer as soon as sold.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: All announcements and updates made at the commencement of online bidding will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to any such announcements and updates.
CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION: Each animal will carry registration papers issued by the Canadian Simmental Association, unless otherwise specified in the catalogue. A certificate of registration will be transferred to the buyer for each animal purchased after settlement has been made in full.
RIGHT TO FLUSH OR RETAIN SEMEN: Rainbow River Simmentals reserves the right to retain in-herd semen/ one successful flush (minimum of 6 freezable embryos) on any bull or female sold, at the seller’s expense and buyer’s convenience.
SHIPPING: Assistance will be given in arranging shipping or pickup after the sale, but no risk is assumed by the seller.
BREEDER GUARANTEE: All animals are sold under the standard terms and guarantees as set forth by the Canadian Simmental Association (CSA). The CSA Breeder Guarantee Guidelines can be found on the reverse side of any registration paper belonging to a bull or female registered with the CSA, or on the CSA website at www.simmental.com. At no time will the seller’s liability exceed the purchase price of the animal.
EXCEPTION TO BREEDER GUARANTEE: This guarantee does not cover death, injury, sickness or mismanagement. No guarantee is given that a bull’s semen will freeze. In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques (i.e. embryo transfer) after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. Animals cannot be returned to Rainbow River Simmentals if not in a sound, healthy condition.
HEALTH: All animals have been on a total herd health program since birth. Specific details are available upon request. It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into their province or state.
ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither Rainbow River Simmentals or any sales staff or Association assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.
