Take Active Expression In Our Lives

By Pamela Jamian “Having a headful of ideas only gets us so far. What really matters is discovering it for ourselves. We must learn to experience our most subtle levels of consciousness directly.” -David Michie, The Dali Lama’s Cat and the Power of Meow Metaphysical meditation, as used in the context of this article, is a contemplative approach that changes physical reality by inviting and consciously using the underlying spiritual qualities and metaphysical functions associated with the experiences in our lives. Metaphysical meditation offers a fascinating direct approach to the manifestation functions of our innermost being. It positions us to contribute our highest potential, individually and collectively. And as a cornerstone in many spiritual and wisdom traditions, metaphysical meditation is a way that divine energy and information can become personal and usable. It has been said that to walk the path, we must become the path. This includes our innate ability to invite

specific spiritual qualities to take active expression in our lives. Spiritual qualities such as peace, love, joy, beauty, healing, and freedom. We do this by offering to host and express these qualities from within our innermost being. The Peace Prayer of St. Francis captures this principle eloquently; “where there is hatred, let me sow love” and “where there is sadness, joy”, etc. The invitation to host and express spiritual qualities can be made through spiritual practices such as meditation, prayer, yoga, and creativity. The active expression of spiritual qualities can take form as life-sustaining thoughts, responsive feelings, and intuitive actions within the relationships and activities of our lives. Let us explore some of the metaphysical meditation functions we can use to invite and express the spiritual qualities we wish to become and experience in the world. • Spiritual Centering: Using your preferred spiritual practice, settle in with the stillness of your innermost being. The stillness is the space where we know ourselves most authentically. This is where we let go of the lesser to make space for the greater. This is where we receive the Presence of our

Higher Source and where wholistic manifestation takes place. And this is where we identify with the originating patterns of spiritual qualities as we invite them into our innermost being. Once spiritually centered, use silent words or mantras to invite any spiritual quality to join you. Feel its essence, notice its activity, and virtually touch any symbolic form it may take. Once the spiritual quality is fully present, interact with it by using your thoughts to ask questions such as what you can do to best express it in your life, what does it want from you, and what gift does it have for you. Assimilate the spiritual quality and its gift with heart-felt appreciation and a silent thank you. To embody your spiritual quality, usher its essence back to your everyday world through yoga, deep breathing, meditation music, mantra, mindful movement, or a creative activity. • Life-Sustaining Thoughts: Thoughts are constantly flowing through our everyday mind. Sometimes it seems they have a life of their own, and too often, a very worrisome life at that! Rather than focusing on worrisome thoughts of what is absent or wrong, we can focus on thoughts that contemplate our life preferences. It is no longer a mystery that the vibration of thoughts become things.
