Radstadt – surprisingly diverse

Numerous moments of bliss. In Radstadt we always bank on beauty – and from time to time on numbers. For instance, on how many moments of bliss one can have in seven days. The town has a backdrop of breathtaking nature and is only 70 kilometers south of the city of Salzburg. It has a population of 5000 and is 856 meters above sea level. Situated in the center of the “Salzburger Sportwelt” region, it’s a perfect starting point for hikers, cyclists and skiers. And then there is a number that will astonish us all: 725. This town has had 725 years of wonderful, world-changing and unforgettable moments - and you can feel it! Radstadt has a rich history! For many generations there has been laughter, celebration and life within the well preserved 13th century city walls. Holiday happiness – one mountain at a time They say that happiness is often only seen in retrospect, when we remember the precious moments in which we were happy. How much more delightful when we already know these happy moments are waiting for us: while hiking in Rad-

stadt. The reward for climbing the 1768 meter Roßbrand mountain is a breathtaking view of 150 alpine peaks. Everyone can experience the vista by taking the “Radstädter Wanderbus” hiking shuttle, which runs twice a week. Theme trails like the “kultur:geologie:weg” (culture geology path) or the “Milleniumspfad” (millennium path) give insight into the history of the town and of Austria. In addition, the rustic alpine cabins are an inviting place to rest and enjoy traditional down home cooking from the Pongau region. There are many destinations near Radstadt that are worth seeing: the grand fortress “Hohenwerfen” with its bird of prey demonstration, the Liechtenstein gorge in St. Johann, the Eisriesenwelt in Werfen – the word’s largest ice caves, the Mauterndorf castle, and the salt mines in Hallein. The SalzburgerLand Card provides entrance to 180 places of interest (museums, cable cars, nature parks, swimmingpools, etc.) in the city and province of Salzburg.

Here there are no boundaries – quite the opposite – here you will find unlimited relaxation and fun on the slopes of Ski amadé. 270 ski-lifts and 760 kilometers of ski pistes ensure a wonderful skiing and snowboarding experience with only one lift pass. The state-of-the-art snow-making equipment guaranties that the 356 ski runs are always groomed to perfection. Winter begins with the first frosty snowflake, with the first fragrant baked apple, with the first day of your winter holiday in Radstadt. This is carefree life at its best. Imagine being wrapped up in a cozy blanket on a sleigh ride through the dreamy landscape. Try your hand at ice stock sport or go horseback riding through the snow. Draw your circles at the skating rink under the clear blue sky and savor Radstadt’s delicacies.

Ski-resort Radstadt-Altenmarkt It’s not by chance that Radstadt is home to some of the world‘s best skiers, such as Roswitha Steiner, Andreas Schifferer and Hannes Reichelt. Whoever wants to emulate them has plenty of opportunities in one of Austria’s most beautiful ski areas, situated in the center of the Ski amadé region. The family friendly and wind-protected resort is equipped with state-of-the-art skilifts and is considered a hot tip among “Amadé insiders” because of its wide slopes and its manageable size.

Especially during the pre-Christmas period a visit to Radstadt will make not only children’s eyes sparkle with joy. The enchanting Advent magic is popular, as is the weekly Christmas market at the town square. Radstadt’s Christmas hikes make for a more contemplative mood. Accompanied by a brass band, carolers and storytellers the path leads along the torchlit Kaiser promenade and the exhibition of nativity scenes call for a stroll along the city walls.

Out of the way, coming through! Memories are so precious. Many things that are seemingly forgotten are all the more beautiful when we rediscover them, as for instance, childhood memories of sledding with blinding speed amidst loud joyful shouting. Enliven these memories with Radstadt’s nicest curves: Radstadt’s 6 kilometer toboggan run is the longest in the Salzburger Sportwelt and it is off the hook, as far as sledding goes. It is open daily and during the day it can be used with the Amadé-Skipass. Tuesdays and Fridays are reserved for night sledding on the floodlit track with reduced prices for holders of the Salzburg Sportwelt Card staying in Radstadt. The start is at 1557 meters and is conveniently reached with the 8-seater gondola Königslehen. Because a day of sledding is not complete without good fun in an alpine lodge, we invite you to join us on the mountain at the “Sportalm” cabin or in the valley at the “UnterbergSalettl” bar. The 180 kilometer network of excellent cross-country ski tracks in the Salburger Sportwelt lets every cross-country skier’s heart beat a bit faster. Radstadt is at the center of this cross-country paradise, where you can pursue both the classic or skating styles. There are varied tracks for both beginners as well as advanced athletes set amidst the spectacular mountain scenery. You can ski well into spring on two high-altitude cross-country trails (30 kilometers).
