Professional Issues in Counseling examines the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities inherent in the practice of counseling. This course explores topics such as confidentiality, informed consent, multicultural competence, boundaries and dual relationships, supervision, and advocacy. Students will analyze relevant professional codes of ethics, case studies, and current trends affecting the counseling profession, as well as develop critical thinking skills to effectively navigate dilemmas they may encounter in practice. Emphasis is placed on fostering professional identity, self-awareness, and an understanding of the evolving roles and expectations of counselors in diverse settings.
