Critical Approaches to Gender Final Exam
Course Introduction
This course offers an in-depth exploration of critical theories and methodologies used to analyze gender in social, cultural, political, and historical contexts. Students will engage with foundational and contemporary texts from feminist, queer, intersectional, and postcolonial perspectives, examining how gender identities and relations are constructed, maintained, and contested. The course encourages critical reflection on the intersections of gender with race, class, sexuality, and ability, and considers global as well as local dynamics in shaping gendered experiences and structures of power. Through readings, discussions, and assignments, students will develop analytical tools to critique normative assumptions about gender and contribute to ongoing debates about gender justice and equality.
