Colonial American History examines the period from the earliest European settlements in North America through the end of the colonial era in the late eighteenth century. The course explores the economic, social, political, and cultural development of the thirteen British colonies, as well as the interactions among Indigenous peoples, Europeans, and Africans. Major themes include colonization processes, the impact of religion and commerce, patterns of migration and settlement, the development of slavery, regional differences, and the roots of colonial resistance that ultimately led to the American Revolution. Emphasis is placed on diverse experiences and perspectives while analyzing primary and secondary sources to understand the formation of early American society.
