Advice
Employers can tap into student skills and fresh perspectives throughout the year in ways that go beyond traditional placements Whether through short internships, consultancy-style projects, or hosting students for workplace insight visits, these options offer early access to emerging talent while providing students with valuable, workrelated learning experiences that build confidence and capability
Queen’s can support your business to access skills through:
Shorter than year-long placements, internships offer a meaningful way to tap into Queen’s student talent Typically paid and lasting up to 8 weeks (and occasionally extendable), they allow students to immerse themselves in focused projects that benefit both parties –employers gain fresh support, while students gain confidence and real-world exposure
For a lighter commitment, micro-internships lasting less than four weeks provide agile, project-based collaboration – ideal for specific tasks or pilot initiatives.
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and charities may also be eligible for university supported funding to host interns, making it easier to bring students on board.
Our students enjoy the opportunity to get behind the scenes insight into potential workplaces and understand more about roles, culture, and environment Insight visits are typically scheduled as part of our Employer Insight Week each spring, giving participating organisations a prime opportunity to engage directly with students early in their career journey These visits allow students to visualise their future career paths and get a tangible feel for your operations and values
These are dynamic learning opportunities where students apply their skills to real business challenges - acting in a facilitated consultancy or problem-solving capacity Whether embedded in coursework or optional co-curricular programmes, students work individually or in teams to address issues posed by employers
Work-Based Projects
Short-term consultancy or challenges
Innovative solutions at low cost, brand engagement
Problem-solving skills, industrybased learning
We know that exposure to industry expertise is vital for student development. That’s why we work closely with employer partners on a wide range of employability initiatives, giving students the chance to learn, connect, and be inspired by professionals
With Corporate Social Responsibility high on the agenda, engaging in our events and programmes not only helps develop your staff, but also raises your organisation’s profile and supports your talent acquisition strategy by building a strong pipeline of future-ready graduates.
