Applause goes to all the valued members of Qatar Mothers Toastmasters for the creation of this exquisite newsletter. A newsletter serves as a remarkable reflection of our club, and Qatar Mothers Toastmasters stands as a shining beacon in District 116, boasting exceptional leaders, champions, and an outstanding membership.

Toastmasters provides us with a secure platform to learn, hone, and excel in both our communication and leadership skills. The structured environment of Toastmasters has given me the opportunity to lead a life as I've always envisioned, one free from constraints related to politics, religion, and gender discrimination. Each step of this journey has been a gratifying experience; I've been an attentive listener before becoming an articulate communicator, and I've allowed myself to empty so that I may refill with newfound knowledge. As I've progressed on this path, my clarity has grown, transforming vague ideas and dreams into resolute goals with a clear sense of purpose. I have witnessed my own evolution from a mere member to a purpose-driven leader. I wholeheartedly encourage all of you to embark on this learning journey to discover the power of leadership and effective communication within yourselves.

My journey took me to Denver, Colorado, USA, during the Toastmasters International Annual Convention in 2019. The experience was beyond words and profoundly altered my thoughts and actions. It instilled in me the confidence and authority I needed, propelling me from a passionate member to a dedicated leader with a clear purpose and strategy. I have been fortunate to attend the last three International Conventions, and each experience has solidified my commitment to serving others and sharing the benefits of this organization.

A leader's true success lies in empowering their followers, in gracefully stepping aside when their followers become leaders themselves, and in joining the team when their presence is needed most. A true leader allows others to bask in the glory of victory while taking on the burdens in challenging times. This is the essence of a leader with a purpose. Applause goes to the Club President, Amina Khanum, and the dynamic Executive Committee for their exceptional leadership.

My kind advice to you all who are new to toastmasters is “Never give up”. It is our perseverance and consistency pay back to show our commitment and hard work. Indeed, the result will be visible. You will see a better you, who is able to communicate better than before, clearer than before and who is capable to make a change in others, to empower them and to help them to rise stronger.

My Dear Qatar Mother Toastmasters…

Greetings to All… It gives me immense pleasure to pen my thoughts as District Club Growth Director. Qatar Mothers Toastmasters Club, is one of the unique and all femme toastmasters clubs of Qatar, indeed a path setter and keep raising their bars within a short duration, making a well-rounded development in terms of achieving educational and membership goals consistently well. Let me first congratulate all members and the EXCOM in particular for their tremendous hard work and services rendered so far and for the more in future to make this club one of the best of its own. Ever since its inception from 21st Sep 2022, the club has made remarkable growth... Thanks to visionary leadership and continuous nurturing to deliver value for members. This club is now in the premier league that indicates a continuum of success as measured by matrices. The club leadership is evidently doing that. It is commendable to see the club is now full of enthusiastic members and leaders serving at Division, Area and club roles in other clubs too.

In the first year itself, the club achieved many accolades and became the best performing clubs in the Division. I wish this year too shall be a great year for them to outperform all their previous achievements and set up a new benchmark... A word of caution: we should not be complacent and should continue the momentum in building the club stronger, adding more members, conducting quality programs, achieving educational credits and much more…

My special appreciation to VPPR TM Shabna Shanid and her TEAM for their dedication and hard work in releasing this Newsletter in time and style. Kudos and keep up the good work! YOU BECOME WHAT YOU THINK Dear Qatar Mothers toastmaster club members, glad to meet all of you through this newsletter.

The mind is everything; what you think you become.

This I read, realized and that reflected in my toastmasters journey. When I joined in toastmasters, then I wanted to achieve Distinguished toastmaster title, I planned for speech slots with my VPE, I consulted with my mentor, rehearsed and delivered my speeches and I was successful. I could complete my projects and I won the most prestigious Distinguish toastmaster title.

During my journey, I wanted to be a champion speaker, I could win in Table topics, humorous contest, Evaluation and international contests in Club, Area and Division levels. All that was possible because I wanted that to happen.

Being part of toastmasters for 16 years, I realized it is my payback time now. I felt i should share my experiences and knowledge with budding toastmasters, step into Leadership and start serving to the fraternity from where I learned many things. From PQD I have become DD. When I look back today, I realize I gained lot of wisdom, awards, rewards and fame.

To succeed in life, organize your thoughts for speeches, schedule your meetings, set your goals, prioritize and use your time properly. You are the navigator in your journey. Say it in your club level or any level if you want to be a champion speaker, plan and execute what you want to do, work and achieve towards your goal which is very important. As a member work towards your educational goals, as a club officer work towards your club goals, as a contestant work towards your individual goals. Be clear in what do you want to do exactly.

Thoughts comes like a river disturbs, forces and occupies our mind. Sometimes they are useful and sometimes not. It was found from researches that the average person has about 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. Do not have many goals or many ideas. All ideas will not work for you. Decide what is best for you, choose the best one. Of those thousands of thoughts, 80% were negative, and 95% may be old ideas what you already had . So have positive thoughts, think what is needed for you, work for that one thought and you will become what you thought.

At the beginning of 2023, Qatar Mothers Toastmasters, much like any other club, had humble aspirations.

Our members joined with the hope of enhancing their public speaking skills, forging connections, and, perhaps most importantly, enjoying the exhilaration of delivering speeches.

What we didn't anticipate, however, was that this year would unfold as a remarkable journey of transformation.

It's a story of perseverance, unwavering dedication, and the relentless spirit of our members to conquer adversity and seize unforeseen opportunities.

As the year commenced, I had little inkling of the transformative journey that awaited Qatar Mothers Toastmasters. Our first encounter with AD Rajend at a demo meeting left an indelible impression. His warm demeanor and infectious enthusiasm captured our attention, even though we were unsure of his role as an Area Director. Little did we know that this encounter would set in motion a series of events that would shape our club's destiny.

In the months that followed, our club continued to meet regularly, progressing steadily through various education modules and speeches.

However, an invisible hindrance loomed over us: our progress on the dashboard had come to a standstill. It wasn't until later, around February or March, that our interactions with AD Rajend took a deeper turn. It was during this time that he extended an unexpected invitation, one that would change the course of our journey.

TM Shabuna secured 1st place in Malayalam Speech Contest, TM Shireen secured 1st place in International Speech Contest, TM Amina was the Contest Chair for Evaluation Speech Contest and TM Alvia was the timer at the Area 17 contest

The invitation was to lead the Evaluation Contest for the area—a role I accepted with some hesitation. Uncertain about what lay ahead, I questioned the feasibility of the task. AD Rajend's response was simple yet powerful, "Just do it." Little did I know that this phrase would become our mantra, guiding us through the uncharted waters of our journey.

As the contest drew near, AD Rajend encouraged us to take a bolder step— compete in the contest. The catch? Most of our members hadn't even started their Level 1 pathways. Through determination and unwavering persistence, I managed to convince members such as Nisha, Salma, Tinu, Shirin, and Shabuna to participate. It marked the beginning of our transformation.

With sheer determination, I managed to motivate members to participate in the contest. The result? An unexpected triumph as Shirin and Shabuna emerged victorious. This victory marked a turning point in our Toastmasters journey, reigniting our passion and drive.

Following this exhilarating win, Shirin and Shabna ventured to participate in the Div E Contests. Their unwavering dedication and commitment paid off as they clinched the 3rd place in the International and Malayalam speech categories, respectively. While they may not have advanced to the District Level, their remarkable achievements had already won the hearts of the division.

They stood as young champions of a fledgling club, a testament to what determination and resilience can accomplish.

Although we had champion speakers , we were still behind in our DCP goals.

With a whole lot of motivation from our Div E Director DTM Lakshmi Sharada, we managed to progress in our membership goals. We continued to secure additional accolades at the District Level.

TM Shabuna secured 3rd place in Malayalam Speech, Shirin placed 3rd in International Speech Contests

The Division E Excellence Awards arrived, bringing both recognition and realization. We received awards based on nominations from Immediate Past Div E Director DTM Lakshmi Sharada.

These awards hinted at a promising future, though our membership numbers remained far from the required target.

The arrival of summer brought unique challenges. In July, most of our club members embarked on summer vacations, leaving only a handful behind. Meetings continued, but motivation began to wane. I, too, ventured away and returned to find just 2-3 members remaining. We couldn't even hold a single meeting.

Amid announcements for the Smedley Award and incentives, despair began to set in. Our membership had dwindled to just 12 members, compared to 21 in the previous term. The situation seemed dire, but I was determined to rise above it.

While our awards count might have been modest compared to wellestablished clubs, these achievements held immense significance for us. It was a remarkable feat for a club that had been on the brink of obsolescence to not only survive but also emerge as a triumphant contender.

I took the decision to announce our Open House for Sep 16th. We would hold a meeting, and if we had enough guests showing interest, it would become an open house; otherwise, it would be a regular meeting. This decision carried the weight of uncertainty, but it was a risk I was willing to take.

Part of our EXCOM team was back VPE Salma, VPM Alvia, VPPR Shabna and stand-in Secretary Seema. We conducted an impromptu meeting and delegated the responsibilities for the open house. in addition to the social media posts, we reached out to influencers to share our posts. We got featured on social media pages such as @newindoha @qatarday with 120150K followers. Influencers including @affblogs, @mommy_musingss and @banjarans_lifestyle shared our flyers to support.

Our newest members, AlWala, Alina, and Seema, took on crucial roles and began preparations for the open house.

TM AlWala introduced a unique theme, "Thinking Outside the Box: Unleash Your Inner Superheroine Powers," which proved engaging, interactive, and empowering. The result was the addition of two new members, TM Sania and DDD Eman, within a week. The journey continued as Shahinas and Trapti joined our ranks.

As we inched closer to the Smedley Award and incentives deadline, the pressure was on. District Director DTM Ravishankar's constant encouragement and support kept us going. By the end of September, we achieved the impossible. We got 10 new members! Not only did we secure the Smedley Award, but we also met the district's membership incentives.

Our journey hasn’t stopped at membership targets; we also set our sights on educational awards. VPE Salma and I completed our projects, achieving two Distinguished Club Program (DCP) goals. Our club now boasts five goals on the dashboard as of September end and is already a Distinguished club, compared to the previous year when we reached Distinguished status only in April.

This remarkable journey of Qatar Mothers Toastmasters from Zero to Hero is a testament to the power of determination, mentorship, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.

We could not have done it without the mentoring of AD DTM Rajend Menon or the guidance of Immediate Past Div E Director DTM Lakshmi Sharada.

Our transformation from a club with modest aspirations to one that will achieve the President's Distinguished Club status soon is a story of passion, resilience, and unwavering commitment within the Toastmasters community reiterating that it is essential to defy the impossible!

TOASTMASTERS: A GUIDE TO ACHIEVING CLINICAL EXCELLENCE

S

ucceeding as a clinical pharmacist in medical and healthcare requires a range of core skills. The role of a pharmacist is important. So, professionals who enter this field need to be well-trained and have good communication skills, multitasking skills, and analytical skills. For this reason, I took the opportunity to join toastmasters international to develop my skills and help my patients choose the best medication for their needs. In addition, to avoid any potential drug interactions by having good patient-pharmacist interaction.

Toastmasters International had improved my communication skills. Effective communication with patients is essential and improves health outcomes. The World Health Organization (WHO) report entitled “The Role of the Pharmacist in the health care system: preparing the future pharmacist” identified the pharmacist as a “communicator’’. More recently, the role of the pharmacist has been expanding in a patient-centered way, making communication between patients and the community a vital component of daily practice. Good communication skills are needed for complex activities such as conducting medicine reviews, motivating people to adhere to medicines, and health promotion.

As a Clinical pharmacist, I need to have excellent analytical skills if I want a successful career over the long term. I improved my analytical skills as a toastmaster. I became more successful in assessing the condition of a patient and their medical history, which will allow me to deliver the best treatment plan. Moreover, I’ll need to be analytical when patients have problems with their treatment. In this instance, a highly skilled clinical pharmacist would need to suggest an alternative medicine based on research to solve the dispute. As a clinical pharmacist, I need to approach my work with both an investigational and analytical mind and take a logical approach to my decisions. Above all, with the right balance of skills and knowledge, I can grow my career as a pharmacist and become highly successful.

Multitasking is all about being able to switch between tasks with ease and efficiency, without sacrificing productivity. It is one of the important skills that I gained as an Excom member of the Toastmasters club. As an ExCom member, I was handling many tasks at once. On the other hand, as a healthcare professional, I will have to be a multifunctional person, many of which will have a direct impact on people’s lives. I’ll be developing medication plans, assessing the results of treatments, and advising patients about their medicines. Therefore, pharmacists need to be exceptionally organized and know how to handle different responsibilities and ensure dayto-day tasks are completed on time.

On the whole, the biggest gift I surprisingly got from Toastmasters is the community. Being around people who are similarly driven builds a safe space for you to fail and learn. Toastmasters give you that. You get to meet new people every meeting & Learning becomes more fun! The skills you learn early in Toastmasters will help you in many ways. And the more you continue to practice and improve in your club, the more success you will experience in your career and real life.

COMMITMENT TO YOUR DREAM

It takes a lot of effort for me to stop reminiscing about this event of my life. I still look back nostalgically to rise back, Spring up, If at all, I feel like I am descending.This is how significant this day is in my life. This was the day of division contest.

From the 1st meeting of my toastmaster journey, I heard the thunderous applause When a champion speaker was called on stage, since then I started craving for the similar applause. That was the moment I committed myself to be a champion speaker . Four months in the journey of toastmasters,I was privileged to win the first place in area contest, International category and I was looking forward to division contest. To my surprise, 2 months prior to the division contest. I received my positive pregnancy report.

As blissful as this moment was for me, it was combined with anxiety about my participation in the division contest. The easiest option for me was to quit as my condition was not favourable, however, my support system was extremely strong , they were of the opinion that I have to participate and winning is just a buy product .

They say... behind every successful man, there is a woman. I say behind every successful woman there is a progressive and understanding man.

3rd Place Winner at TAC E ( Division E Contest)

Fortunately, I have two of them, My husband and my son. The support system that you have ,I believe can make you or break you . Also, I wanted to set an Example to my unborn child , I want him to be proud of his mother. I decided to participate. I started practicing my speech in the midst of breathlessness, episodes of spewing every 30 minutes and Vertigo to make it worst.

As the day was coming closer, my condition was deteriorating . One hour before the contest. My spewing got worst. I could hardly breathe and I also had the episodes of vertigo, i was so close to admit defeat. However, the undying commitment I had towards my dream compelled me to reach the venue. As soon as I reached a venue, the wibe , the people around me. And most importantly, the applause that I was craving for , made me Forget my ailment , my obstacles and gave me the right amount of zest to be on the stage. I delivered my speech and I managed to grab third place in the International category of division contest though it was not a win for me.

I was extremely content as I fulfilled my commitment to participate inspite of the challenges. I urge each and everyone to commit to your dreams. Dream to reach the sky, and you will at least fall on the roof . After a few more attempts, sky will all be yours .

A JOURNEY TO EXCELLENCE: My Toastmasters Speech contest Experience

Inspired from my toastmaster husband, My Toastmasters journey began with a simple desire to become a more confident speaker. I joined Qatar Mothers Toastmasters, where I found a welcoming community of like-minded mothers eager to help me improve. The club’s supportive environment proved to be the perfect place to nurture my speaking skills. As a new comer, I attended meeting regularly, where I honed my speaking skills and gained valuable feedback from fellow toastmasters. It was a gradual process of improvement, with so much of learning and fun.

My first taste of Toastmasters contest came unexpectedly when I was selected by our club president to represent in the Area level competition. I felt a mix of excitement and uneasiness as I prepared for my first contest speech within a short period of time. Speech preparation is the cornerstone of success in Toastmaster contests. It involves crafting a speech that engage the audience, convey a message and adheres to time constraints. To my astonishment, I won the first prize in the area level contest ! This victory not only boosted my confidence but also inspired me to continue competing.

3rd Place Winner at TAC E ( Division E Contest)

Following the Area contest, I set my sights on the Division level competition. The preparation was intense, and I sought guidance from my mentor to fine-tune my speech. Competing at this level was a significant step up, and the quality of speakers was outstanding. Although I didn’t secure the top spot, I was thrilled to win the third prize. This experience taught me the importance of resilience and continuous improvement. Participating in this contest not only helped me refine my speeches but also gave me valuable experience in front of an audience and a panel of judges.

Joining Toastmasters was a decision that would change my life in profound ways. My confidence as a speaker improved, and I discovered a newfound passion for facing a big audience through effective communication. Little did I know that this journey would not only improve my public speaking skills but also boost my confidence and personal growth. From winning the first prize at the Area contest to competing at the Division Level has been an incredible learning experience.

I look forward to continuing this journey, eager to embrace new challenges and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

What message do you want to convey, and who is your target audience? Understanding these elements will help you choose the right content and tone for your speech.

Prep Your Ideas Before you start writing, brainstorm your ideas. Jot down key points, anecdotes, and examples that support your message. Organize these ideas into a logical structure, ensuring a clear beginning, middle, and end. ·Mix in Engaging Content Mix engaging content into your speech. Incorporate statistics, quotes, stories, and humor to captivate your audience. Remember that a winning speech keeps the audience engaged from start to finish.

THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX: UNLEASH YOUR INNER SUPERHEROINE

A meeting that left an impact! Rightfully so, as the meeting was hosted by TM AlWala, Manager of Performance, Monitoring & Evaluation at Qatar Foundation, who evaluates impact and performance of programs and initiatives for Non-Profit for a living! She brought to the meeting the most creative and impactful way of getting the attendees to Think Outside the Box. But not just outside the box, inside the box, and without a box too! How you may ask....to know you have to be there to experience it. In short, she engaged the audience with some thoughtprovoking simple activities which had the entire crowd participating and learning why and how you must get rid of any boundaries that may limit your creativity and innovation.

Adding to the magic was the speech by Humor Queen TM Priya. To the audience particularly new members TM Priya seemed like a soft-spoken person, probably another guest like themselves. But, as always when she took to the stage her storytelling captivated the audience. Her mastery in humor blazed through leaving the audience gasping for air with laughter as she narrated her struggles with English & Algebra To make the experience even more enjoyable Table Topics Master Shabna brought some unique topics for the guests to participate with and a unique and fun way to pick the speakers.

DTM Mani Roy, Division H Director graced the meeting with her presence and talked about “Why Toastmasters”.

She presented the perspective of a woman who left her career to take on Toastmasters as her full-time job! She highlighted the growth of women in toastmasters up the leadership ladder talking about World Champion Public Speaking DTM Nisha Shivram and all the winners of 2023 being women.

The icing on the cake was when DTM Mani showed the audience that the International President of Toastmasters this year is also a woman Morag Mathieson, one of the guests stood up and said, “I don’t know much about toastmasters, or what happens here but I want to be her!”, pointing towards the screen where the photo of International President was showcased.

TM Eman, Division D Director, also contributed to the success of the event with her enthusiasm, donning on the cape of a superhero which was the uniform of the hosting club members! The effect of the meeting was so impactful on TM Eman, that she is now a proud member and Champion of our Club!

Gracing us also with his presence was District Director, DTM Ravishankar, who showed up despite several obstacles to support a budding club. His message to the audience was not just motivating but left the club members feeling absolutely proud that he took the time out to visit us.

The highlight of the meeting was TMOD ensuring every attendee had donned the superhero pose to be left feeling positively super charged!

Dream Team it is! Qatar Mothers Toastmasters brought another enthralling, power packed meeting with Meeting #24. President TM Amina took on the TMOD role to engineer her dream team! Starting the meeting with an ice breaker activity where the members worked together in teams for a quick challenge of building towers of paper cups without touching them, got the attendees connecting instantaneously with their team members. The activity had quickly eased the feeling of unfamiliarity among the guests and we could see members and guests engaging in conversations seamlessly.

The prepared speech session was one filled with surprises as two new members TM Seema and TM Sania presented their ice breaker speeches.

TM Seema, a housewife who is only finding her way back into the work force enthralled the audience with her captivating and humorous anecdotes. While TM Sania touched the audiences heart as she recounted her struggles to find her own identity among the many roles she plays in her life.

Both the speeches encouraged the guests to join the community of toastmasters to be able to share their journey with a group of like minded people and the break time conversations were rife with everyone recounting their experience of listening to the ice breakers!

We had a guest speaker Nada Meeajan this session to present a Keynote session titled “Breaking the binary: Women Shaping the Future of Tech.” Being a woman in tech herself, as the Country Digital Acceleration Lead at Cisco Systems in Qatar, Nada was thrilled to grab the opportunity to speak on the topic to help inspire women.

She came with a ton of research and presented a truly though provoking session. The presentation left the audience with some eye-opening statistics about women in the tech world and the key takeaway message: Be Authentic, Be Happy.

After all the food for thought, TM Juhi brought a fun round of Table Topics with a twist engaging not one speaker but two at a time. She ensured no one felt like they were put on the spot. Instead each one could take hints from their partner and provide a different perspective on the same topic or continue with the thoughts of their partner. The creative Table Topics round ensured most of the guests could enjoy the experience of public speaking and not the perils!

The meeting was evaluated by TM Najla, who always motivates Qatar Mothers Toastmasters with her positive commendations and recommendations whenever she visits.

The meeting was also graced by the presence of District Club Growth Director, DTM Alar Mel Mangai, who joined as an Evaluator for the evening. Through her critical and valid feedback, we learnt how to evaluate to elevate!

This definitely was an impactful meeting put together by the entire team of Qatar Mothers Toastmasters, from EXCOM to role players, to members who were present to support the club, displaying the spirit of camraderie that is being engineered one meeting at a time.
