DIGITAL DESIGN + FABRICATION SM1, 2016 M1 JOURNAL – EGG CUTTER QIAN RONG LI (760650) MICHELE + 9

Measured Drawings

1.1 Object: Measured drawing set of selected object.

1.1 Process Description: Text and Images describing how object was physically measured + photo of object

As the teeth are extruding from the base I has difficulty measuring it using ruler as the scale does not start at the end of the ruler. Hence, I decided to mark the height on a strong strip of paper then measure it using ruler. I used the same strategy while measuring the gap between the teeth and the side of the base

Analysis

1.2 Object + System Analysis: Analytical sketches/drawings abstracting the rule/material logic in the object

45 degrees

This 45 degrees angle increases stability while plates are stacking on top o each other as it encourages more friction to form between each the top and the bottom of the plate, hence prevents sliding motion

This drawing displays the vertical stacking motion of the egg cutter when slicing eggs.

I decided use a string to allocate each piece to be on top of each other with uniform vertical spacing between each of three plate and the base. This helps be to draw up this elevation

Bottom

Top

The bars in side the hollow plates are thicker at the top that aid cutting

Digital Model

1.7 Digital modelling process: Description of how object was modelled using text/diagrams/screencaptures

Pattern on the base

The base of the egg cutter was made by tracing the plan of the top view then extruded it to for solids. Then extruded the polygons that formed by the 6 groups of teeth. Using the boolean command to create the cavity between the teeth and the base of the egg cutter. Similarly, the curvy hollows on the base of the object is punctured by extruding the curve and boolean the base. (Refer to Appendix)

Curve on the teeth

The curve on the teeth is formed by placing a three 3D drawn egg and place it one third down the teeth then boolean it.

Each of the cutting plates are formed by offsetting the curve traced on the plan of the base by 5mm smaller in radius. Then extrude it

Each small slicing bar on the plates are created by extrude curve tapered as the bar is thinner at the bottom for slicing. (Refer to Appendix)

Sketch Model

1.8 Making process: Images + description of making process

This expresses the potential effect

This model is constructed using paper and glue. Each strip of paper is rolled to form a relatively rigid bar, combining to configure into triangles. Essentially, the model is a repetitive pattern of combining four triangle vertically, horizontally and diagonally in a consecutive manner. Ultimately, this pattern circles around to from a hoop. This design is a combination of the three sketch design

Elevation 2

An alternate effect of this design is to isolate the person who is sleeping from other people. As the cover not only blurs what the user can see, but also obligate people from seeing who they are.

How does this respond to your personal space?

The cavity behind the frames moulds to the shape of the and and shoulder for support. This induce a sense of security.

Sketch Design #3 [Cuts__ cross] rope Transparen t inflatable polyether

Elevation How does this respond to your personal space?

Allow a sense of freedom while sleeping as the transparency still allow user to see their surrounding while sleeping.
