25 Miles of Road Improvements Q&D’s largest hard-bid heavy/civil project to date, a $42.6M project to repave I-80 west of Reno, is currently underway! This busy highway serves up to 79,000 motorists daily and is in need of new updates and improvements. The project will resurface both directions of I-80 between Keystone Avenue in Reno and the Nevada-California border. To enhance safety, more “Wrong Way” signs will be added to I-80 ramps along with additional flashing warning signals and detection systems. Also, merge lanes will be lengthened from West Fourth Street to westbound I-80 near Mogul and the Gold Ranch-Third Street exit to eastbound I-80. Several roadside shoulders will be widened and new barrier rail and curb and gutter will also be installed. Project Statistics • The project includes a total of 24.88 miles of work on I-80 (12.44 miles of I-80 Eastbound and 12.44 miles of I-80 Westbound) • 175,000 tons of asphalt will be used • Approximately 54 lane-miles of new paving • 75 new drop inlets • 3 new storm drain vaults • 13,000 lineal feet of new concrete barrier rail • 15,000 lineal feet of new curb and gutter

Current Status There are 48 Q&D’ers on the project working mostly night shifts. There is also a day crew working between 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. In November, the first 4.5 miles of I-80 westbound will be finished. To date, there have been 52,000 tons of paving completed, 50% of the overall drainage work is completed, and 4,600 lineal feet of curb and gutter has been placed. Working Together as a Team The team is involved in a formal partnering process with NDOT and a facilitator to regularly review the project goals and ensure the project is a success. The last review session included a survey of the client’s satisfaction and team scoring of how well the project’s goals are being met. Goals included metrics like schedule, quality, safety, working with the public, budget, and teamwork.
