“It’s great to see this kind of activity returning to the Truckee Meadows,” says Q&D Chief Operating Officer Lance Semenko of the recent increase in housing pad development. “Q&D is working with several developers to create new inventory in both the single-family and multi-family markets.” Recently Reno Land Development Company announced and broke ground on two large-scale multi-family projects, one at Rancharrah and another, Summit Club, near the Summit Sierra Mall. A third development is in process at the former Parklane Mall site, where RLDC has planned a mix of apartments, retail and open-space. Q&D is the site utilities and earthwork contractor for these projects. Rancharrah’s 141-acre planned community will add large custom homes, semi-custom homes, condominiums, a senior living community and townhouses. Parklane will include a 725 residential units in a multi-story, mixeduse setting. Summit Club will add another 575 units, with 155 of them slated as workforce or affordable housing. Q&D is also helping build large numbers of homesites for developments like Meridian, Palisades and Kiley Ranch totaling more than one thousand pads ready for new dwellings. “With new housing communities comes retail development, public services expansion, new schools, university buildings, and offices,” says Q&D’s VP-Building Tobin Basta. “New tech jobs coming to the region bring families who need services and have different skills. They need places to work and to buy groceries, dine out, and see movies. They need places to send their kids to school. Q&D will build many of these new structures and the roads to get to them too!” Find us on social media to keep up with the very latest fun activities, project awards and other important Q&D news! Drone support helps Q&D work smarter Q&D’s Technology Support team works closely with field leaders to increase labor productivity and accuracy. Drones flown by our in-house, FAA-licensed team record the site using digital optics and use the footage to create dense topographical surveys of preconstruction land conditions and work-in-progress. These surveys, more accurate than traditional satellite GPS and much less costly, are modeled in contrast with the design contours to create and deliver a virtual representation of the work to individual smart-enabled machines on site. Each smart machine operator has a viewscreen at the controls, offering 3D-visualization of the work at hand, increasing accuracy and production and reducing the overall project duration.
