1st workshop on the use of laboratory animals for biomedical research April 8,9th, 2014

1st workshop on the use of laboratory animals for biomedical research What: Qatar University is actively involved in developing a sustainable scientific research infrastructure to support national and international research collaborations. Biomedical research requires animal models at different stages of the research such as safety testing, clinical trials, genetic testing and immunological responses. Qatar University is the first institute in Qatar that has established a rodent animal facility called Laboratory Animal Research Centre (LARC). At this stage, the availability of expertise in animal care and use is challenging and there is a need to build local human capacity through education and addressing the basic skills in animal research, husbandry and humane care. In addition, there is also a need to disseminate the knowledge about the policy and procedures along with ethical compliance required to conduct animal research. This workshop is a pioneering effort to bring animal researchers under one umbrella. The focus will be on the overview of operational and administrative procedures to be followed at LARC to make use of the facility by various research groups. Moreover, the workshop will provide training of specialized scientific and technical areas relevant to animal facility, animal care, animal research ethics, biosafety, and operational procedures. This workshop will help to gain knowledge and skills from leading international expertise. The workshop will run for two days and will cover more than 12 different specialized training titles.
