FOOD & DINING Classic pad Thai

World On A Plate! By Rodger Gillen

On first impression, Doha may not be the first destination that pops to mind when it comes to sampling some of the unique culinary experiences from around the world. However, it has got a number of great secret spots to eat out on a budget! QH decided to hit the road to snoop out Qatar’s best cheap meals from around the globe! Al Habesha Our first choice has to be Ethiopian eatery Al Habesha, which is located in Al Muntazah. Their huge injera bread is a real tasty treat – especially served with a wide range of stewed dishes in a large sharing platter suitable for four people. The friendly

staff is always on hand to help new customers with advice in choosing the best dishes. Ethiopian is a fascinating mixture of Arabic, African and Indian flavours, with a wide range of vegetarian and naturally gluten-free options. The tearing and sharing of the injera makes for a unique communal eating experience. Timings: 6:00 a.m. till 3:00 a.m., daily Contact Info: Call 6679-0019

Thai Smile If Ethiopian isn’t for you, then perhaps a visit to Thai Smile could interest your taste-buds. We just love the café feel in their Umm Ghuwailina branch. Their huge menu is jam-packed with Thai favourites at reasonable prices. While from the outside the restaurant may not be the most aesthetically pleasing, we really enjoyed the warm welcome and friendly atmosphere we received from the staff who were busy tending to a crammed restaurant on a Wednesday lunchtime. Big servings of pad Thai and Thai Green curry where quickly served to us, which were full of flavour. Even more
