The Hit-Or-Miss List

Happy Hour At The Rooftop We’re smitten with The St. Regis Doha’s newest nightlife addition. Its chic lounge vibe gets full marks, along with its creative cocktail and bar bites menu – and really, who doesn’t love a good view with their happy hour? It doesn’t get much higher than the roof.

Ed Sheeran Sold Out We don’t know about you, but we’re bummed we didn’t manage to scoop tickets to see our fave ginge. His one-nightonly concert, coming March 3, 2015 to QNCC sold out in a matter of hours last month. We’ve got our fingers and toes crossed that he’ll add a second show to his Doha stop-over!

Editor’s Corner I’m sitting here trying to think of something non-cliché to write about the New Year. From resolutions, to ‘New-Year, new-you’ – it’s all been said and done. Out with the old and in with the…well, you get where I’m going with this. So instead of waxing poetic about 2015, why don’t we just show you instead? After all, we’ve gone through a transformation of sorts ourselves. New layouts, new look, new style, new paper – a little makeover never hurt anyone and we like what we’re seeing in the mirror! We hope you do too! You can mark your calendars to full this month as some stellar, world-class events make their arrival in Qatar. Sports fans can go crazy at the 18th Commercial Bank Qatar Masters golf tournament, then get your fitness fix at The Color Run Qatar – all happening in January and all to be found in this issue. Qatar Happening is also incredibly honoured to bring you a very special cover feature on a German expat who is making waves in the sport of falconry here in Qatar and abroad. We introduce you to Laura Wrede, Qatar’s only female falconer, whose dedication towards these animals has overcome barriers of tradition, culture and language. Her story is a remarkable one and you’ll only find it here with us. I could tell you more about what you’ll find in this edition for Community, Arts & Culture, Entertainment (don’t miss our Nicole Kidman exclusive interview!) and more…but then I’d be talking your ear off until the next New Year most likely. Plus, if you’re reading this, you’ve already got your copy in hand – so what are you waiting for? Dig in.

Cooking With Fire Recently, a few of the QH team went out for teppanyaki at the Doha Marriott’s Asia Live! and couldn’t have asked for a better night. The food was fab, the preparation theatrical and the prices more than reasonable. There’s just something about having your meal cooked right in front of you! A big shout out to Chef Mark – whose acrobatics at the grill were almost as good as the beef teriyaki.

Killer Commute We promise, this will be the only time we’ll complain about the traffic here – it’s pretty much a constant! But we won’t soon forget one recent commute from West Bay. An hour to get from the Tennis & Squash Complex to Civil Defense Roundabout?! Backed-up, bumper-tobumper gridlock. When will it end…?

See you next month,

the traffic gets too much I will I’m going to buy a camper van and when . #doha #traffic. pull over and take a snooze until it clears

We’re feeling the love for the Qatar national football team after their recent Gulf Cup win. Beating Saudi Arabia we’re sure only heightened the sporting rivalry – but it was pretty fun seeing all the locals waving the flag, blasting music and celebrating on the Corniche! (Even if it did create a bit of a traffic nightmare…)
