‘TOP TECH TEAM’ WIN 17TH PLANT DESIGN COMPETITION Qatargas sponsored and presented Best Overall Prizes at the annual competition organised by Qatar University’s Department of Chemical Engineering.
Winners of the competition are presented with their prizes at a special ceremony held at Qatargas’ Doha Head Office.
Qatar University’s 17th Annual Plant Design Competition provided a compelling showcase of the country’s best and brightest young engineering minds, with competition at an exceptionally high standard and winning team, ‘Top Tech Team’ scooping the Best Overall Prize. Qatargas sponsored and presented the Best Overall Prizes for the first and second place winning teams at the competition, which was organised by the University’s Department of Chemical Engineering. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, projects were evaluated remotely, with technical reports and video presentations assessed using Qatar University’s evaluation sheet method, and winners were selected from 14 eligible teams based on the highest evaluation score. Representing Qatargas on the judging panel were Mubarak Al Hajri, Head of Process Engineering Onshore South, Ahmed Jaber Al Mohannadi, Head of Process Engineering - RLTO & Refining, and Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, Head of Engineering Studies. They were tasked with evaluating technical reports on Technical Content, Computations and
Analysis, Quality of Diagrams, and Tables and Writing Style. Video presentations were assessed for Organisation and Structure, Technical Content, Visual Aids, and Teamwork. The winning ‘Top Tech Team’ carried out a feasibility study of their LNG plant design by establishing the market demand and consumption trends, as well as the potential markets for their product, all while prioritising environmental impact and emissions reduction. The prizes were distributed to first and second place winners by Qatargas’ Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdulla Al Thani, Chief Engineering and Projects Officer, and Rashid Sultan Al-Kuwari, Asset and Surveillance Engineering Manager, at a special ceremony held at the Company’s Doha Head Office. Dr. Majeda Khraisheh, Dr. Fadwa ElJack and Professor Fares Almomani of Qatar University’s Department of Chemical Engineering.
