Pantry’s Kid Packs now reaching more children BY GLORIA ALBRECHT
The Pyramid
Over the last six months, the Sanpete Pantry has expanded their Kid Packs program to reach more children that are home-schooled. Unlike kids who are in the classroom every day, home-schooled children don’t get free meals from the school. The pandemic has kept more children out of the classrooms this past year, and the need for Kid Packs has greatly increased. Over the past four months, the Sanpete Pantry has distributed 850 more Kid Packs than over the same time a year ago. Not only has the need increased due to the pandemic, but the pantry has widened the distribution of the Kid Packs as well, answering the need to feed the county’s hungry kids. Each Kid Pack provides a child

The following libraries have Kid Packs available for the asking: Fountain Green Library Mount Pleasant Library Manti Library Gunnison Library Donations keep the Sanpete Pantry going. They are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and rely on the community for support. Fundraisers for the pantry are becoming the new trend among citizens of all ages in Sanpete County. The (very successful) “3 AND ME” fundraiser continues to challenge folks to work with friends and family to match dollar for dollar donations.
Recently the Gunnison High School Fundraiser donated enough money to the food pantry to make 90 Kid Packs or pay for three weeks of mobile food drops by the pantry’s food trucks. The kids at Gunnison High wanted to make a difference and made an inquiry about the best way to help. The money they raised will go a long way in helping their neighbors in the county. With the new year comes additional challenges for the Sanpete Pantry. Volunteers are always needed to help put kid packs together, the outreach mobile food drop program needs funding to expand, and warehousing is an ongoing issue.
