GUNNISON VALLEY HOSPITAL ANNOUNCEMENTSBIRTH It is not very often that we get into a new vehicle and are completely taken aback by the interior. After testing new cars week after week for the past 12 years, it takes a lot from a manufacturer to really move us. That being said, climbing inside the new Chevrolet Silverado for the first time really took our breath away! The new interior design of the Silverado is the best thing to come from Chevrolet since the new Corvette a couple of years ago. It was engaging, technically advanced and a perfect fit for this new truck. The Pyramid The Pioneer Relic Home in Mt. Pleasant was once the home of William Seely, a prominent citizen, Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, first mayor of Mt. Pleasant, and leader in Sanpete County. In this, one of the first homes to be built outside of the Mt. Pleasant Fort, William Seely resided with his wife, Charlotte, and their nine children. It also has been reported that the final treaty that ended the Black Hawk War between the Ute Indians and the Mormon settlers was signed Saturday, September 7, 1872 at the entrance of the home. Around 1950 the Mt. Pleasant Historical Association acquired the home for use as a museum. The Pioneer Relic Home museum was moved to its current location at 150 S. State St., Mt. Pleasant, and here numerous histories and genealogies of the original pioneers as well their descendants are documented. Over the years a wealth of information contained in the Relic Home was assembled by Co-Director Tudy Standlee. She has compiled a history of Mt. Pleasant’s historic homes and their ownership since the beginning of Mt. Pleasant in 1859.

Acouple of weeks ago, I was on a late-night walk with Archer. Archer is the dog who boards with us. He’s a Sheltie (o cially, a Shetland sheepdog). He’s a likable sort and is good company. We don’t have too many disagreements. You may be interested to know that I’ve been teaching Archer arithmetic. He’s been doing quite well with it.Usually when I’m showing o his skills to people it goes like this: “Archer, what is 2 minus 2?” Archer looks at me, cocks his head; and then says nothing. I respond with “Correct!” Impressive, eh? We were in Manti, Sanpete’s county seat, on our walk. It was a warm summer night. We sat down on the front steps of the county courthouse and relaxed for a while. From our elevated perch, we watched “the world” go by. There was very little foot tra c. A few kids were out and there was another dog-walker. The Top Stop convenience store, not far away, is open 24 hours a day, so there was a little business going on there. Every once in a while, a car or truck would go by. It was quite infrequent, so it was easy to play the “guess the color of the next car game” with Archer. Weirdly, he kept giving random guesses of black, white and gray. I was guessing all the colors of the rainbow, and he was winning with his dumb doggieWhenguesses.acarcame by, headed south, which looked like it was packed for a vacation, Archer looked up at me and posed a question. What I heard was, “Where do you think they’re going?” This question made me think a little. I was suddenly reminded that the road we were looking at is U.S. Route 89. I know that 89 is not as storied and famous as Route 66, but it is a wonderful ribbon of highway that accesses many terrific places. After thinking a moment, my answer to Archer was, “I bet they’re on their way to Bryce Canyon. Maybe they’re going as far as Richfield tonight.” His look to me told me that he agreed with my logic. I researched on Wikipedia while we sat there and found out more information about our own famous road that runs through Sanpete. As it is now, the southern section of the highway runs 848 miles from Flagsta , Arizona to the southern entrance of Yellowstone National Park. The northern section runs 404 miles from the northern entrance of Yellowstone in Montana, ending at the Canadian border. At times, Highway 89 has been called the National Park Highway. It links up seven national parks. Prior to 1992, the highway went all the way from Mexico to Canada. National Geographic named it the “No 1 Driver’s Drive in the world.” When Archer and I continued our walk, we ran into an old friend. She was out on her porch with her dog. Her dog ran out and greeted us. We ended up having a chat. We talked about how great it was in Sanpete that we could run into people on walks and renew acquaintances. I mentioned that when we had visited Italy some years ago that it was very common for large numbers of people to be out and about on walks in the evening. Much of that is done in the public square.Taking walks up and down the “Main Street” parts of Highway 89 in Sanpete towns could be similar. We would just have to be willing to leave our homes and televisions for a while to take a stroll with our neighbors. I recommend that you have a visit with your dog if you have one. See what the opinion might be for more walks. The Pioneer Relic Home is run by the Mt. Pleasant Pioneer Historical Society which was formed in 1909. That was fifty years after the settlement of Mt. Pleasant. Today the society is hopeful that a new generation of Mt. Pleasants’ pioneer descendants and newcomers to the area alike, will continue the tradition of stewardship, and preserve the history of Mt. Pleasant by volunteering at the Mt. Pleasant Pioneer Relic Home to keep history alive. The Mt. Pleasant Pioneer Relic Home is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and is located at 150 S. State St., Mt. Pleasant, Utah.

Relic Home From A1 underplay the new dashboard as a fully redesigned, premium interior on the LT trim and above. After experiencing this new look for a week, we are convinced this is the best new interior design for a truck we have ever driven. There are some huge screens out there now in the truck world, with everyone trying to outdo what Ram did when it incorporated a portrait screen measuring more than 12 inches into the center console. However, this new look for the Silverado is way more refined and subtle, using the dashboard as more of a canvas as it sweeps its way from driver to passenger. The levers and buttons that turn functions on — things like parking assist, tailgate release and crawl control — are not incorporated into the dash under its huge screen or sticking out as a clunky button as in years past. They are actually used in the dashboard as a designUnderelement.thesefeatures are the controls for the trailer brakes and HVAC, which can all be controlled manually or through the touchscreen. The designers have also smartly included a smaller home button and volume control to the right of the center buttons to provide the driver with a quick way to get to the home screen or turn down theOfvolume.course, the volume and channel controls are still included on the back of the steering wheel and can also be used by the driver for those functions. Are there cameras? Why, yes. They are everywhere, including one that can be used in the rearview mirror. Hooking up a trailer was simple when Craig had to pull a fully loaded trailer to an event on the Friday of our test drive week. Even with 8,800 pounds on the hitch, the new ZR2 had no complaints about pulling the load. The 2-inch factory-installed lift made it even easier to get hooked up to the trailer; it resembled the stance of Craig’s business partner’s 2500Interiortruck.amenities aside, the new ZR2 version of the Silverado is Chevrolet’s answer to the Ram TRX and Ford Raptor. It comes with the largest petrol-powered engine in their wheelhouse, a 6.2-liter Ecotec V-8 powerhouse that is hooked up via a 10-speed automatic transmission. The ZR2 setup comes with all kinds of suspension add-ons and o -road technology to optimize o -road performance and capability. It may not have the pure power o the line as the competitors, but it will keep right up in any o -road contest and definitely wins on the interior design side. We found that even with all this o -road prowess, the Silverado maintained its manners very well when out on the open paved road. Craig had the opportunity to take a few co-workers to Ogden, and other than the fact that the truck sits higher, making it slightly harder to climb in and out, they were all very impressed with the ride of the truck. The ZR2 was loaded with safety features, including an over-the-top, 15-inch heads-up display that came with the Technology Package addition ($1,970). It also included adaptive cruise control and a power steering wheel adjustment. Combined with the lane keep assist, this was invaluable on the drive up to Ogden, keeping the truck well mannered and in its lane appropriately distanced behind the leadingThevehicle.large, full-color heads-up display was the icing on the cake while enjoying all the other technology in the truck, including the 12.3-inch fully digital driving display. It seemed like there were screens everywhere, enhancing the drive to a more futuristic starshiplike experience. It was not what we were expecting from Chevrolet! On top of all the tech going on, this truck was really good looking and turned heads at every stop. The first day we were out in the ZR2, we spent more time talking with folks about it than actually driving it. It seemed as if we were back in the new Corvette based on the number of questions and onlookers we attracted. Our hats are o to Chevrolet and the new Silverado. It’s definitely worth a look for those in the market for a new truck. Base price: $65,100 Destination charge: $1,695 Price as driven: $72,770 CRAIG CONOVER , THE PYRAMID

The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 is a great new addition to the truck world both outside and in. Silverado From A1 of injuries can be serious, such as a rotator cu injury, or they can be a repetitive strain injury (RSI), which occurs in muscles, tendons, and nerves in hands, wrists, shoulders, elbows, knees, and lower back. These injuries are caused by doing the same movement for an extended period and can lead to pain or weakness. Consider these tips to prevent injuries and minimize pain while gardening. 1. Adapt the garden. Create a garden that promotes healthy posture, movement, and maintenance. Incorporate raised beds and vertical gardens to avoid hunching over and kneeling. Carefully place stepping stones, pottery, and other gardening hardscapes so you can work around them without twisting, over-reaching, or pulling.2. Adapt the tools. Use tools that are appropriate for the job and that fit your abilities. Tools with ergonomic handles and attachments provide a comfortable grip and help keep the wrist straight. Rakes and shovels with height-appropriate handles help you maintain a straight back and avoid hunching over.

The Relic Home has volumes of records with pictures of the original pioneer homes and has documents tracing ownership of the homes and properties throughout the generations. Many Mt. Pleasant homes currently stand on land that was once the site of a pioneer home, and indeed many remnants of these pioneer homes can still be found in town. Here at the Relic Home Mt. Pleasant residents can find the history of their own property along with fascinating photographs of a bygone era. Also, within the walls of the Relic Home, hundreds of well preserved books, china, textiles, furniture, artifacts and articles of clothing are on display, taking visitors back in time. Family histories, cemetery maps and other historical volumes document the life of the original pioneers and their families.Anongoing restoration to the Pioneer Relic Home has been possible thanks to funding from the Mormon Pioneer National Heritage Area (MPNHA) and local donors. The restoration project is part of an ongoing process that has spanned at least 10 years. Currently the exterior of the home is fully restored and this summer the two log cabins which are located on the Heritage Home site are getting new chinking.

3. Adapt yourself. Be prepared, and use safe movements.Wear comfortable, breathable clothing and closed-toed shoes with ankle support. Even if it’s cloudy outside, wear sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses if needed. Drink water before, during, and after gardening. Start out hydrated, drink every 15-20 minutes while gardening, then drink after to replace what you may have lost through sweat. Keep your tools and other essentials (trash bags, water bottle, cell phone, snacks, etc.) in a bucket or cart nearby while you work. Work during cooler times of the day, and break tasks into shorter activities. If possible, avoid gardening for more than 1.5 hours at a time. Change tasks every 20 minutes to use alternate muscles and intensities (e.g., change from standing to kneeling). Remember to take breaks to stretch your muscles and hydrate.Engage your leg muscles rather than your arms and back when lifting, carrying, setting items down, changing directions, and moving back and forth (e.g., raking andWhenshoveling).working low to the ground, kneel rather than crouching or squatting, and use a foam mat or knee pads. Kneel on one knee while keeping the other foot on the ground for support. This helps avoid hunching while keeping your back straight. Alternate legs every few minutes. Stretch before, during, and after gardening. Gardening is a physical activity, so treat it like any other exercise. Warm up your muscles first, then as you take breaks, stretch the used muscles. At the end, do whole-body stretches. The more you practice safety in the garden, the more it becomes part of your routine and the less likely you will be to experience soreness and pain.

1. Stop trying to multitask It turns out that multi tasking is a myth. That’s right: What we think of as multitasking is just, in real ity, switching rapidly from one task to another. Our brains are physically inca pable of doing two things si multaneously, and constant task switching is anything but efficient. In fact, doing so slows us down and makes it difficult to enter a state of flow where the highest level of concentration and productivity is achieved. So, even if this sounds coun terintuitive, if you want to accomplish more, focus on doing just one thing at a time.

5. Use whenevershortcutspossible To cut down time spent on repetitive tasks, find ways to use shortcuts wherever possible. Save your wrists and fingers from excessive clicking with helpful key board shortcuts. If you do anything repetitive on a spreadsheet, there is proba bly a formula that will make your life so much easier. If you don’t know the formula, a quick Google search will usually bring up a solution. And never underestimate the time-saving ability “copy and paste” with templates for text you use regularly.

3. Keep a ‘distraction list’ It’s so easy to get car ried away with distracting thoughts while trying to fo cus on a task. I can’t forget to call my dentist. I need to make a res ervation for dinner this week end. Did I feed my cat? You get the idea. If you are a victim of constant distrac tions throughout your day, consider keeping a distrac tion list. Keep a notepad on your desk or a doc on your computer; any time you have a distracting thought, jot it down. Then, at the end of the day or on a break, examine the list to see if there is any thing that needs to be taken care of. 4. Manage emails efficiently Speaking of distractions, while email is important, it can also be a hindrance to getting things done. If left unchecked, you can spend hours going through your inbox or get distracted by new email notifications that come in every few minutes. Consider setting 15-min ute time blocks designated for responding to emails throughout the day. Then, in between those blocks, si lence or ignore email notifi cations unless absolutely ur gent. Additionally, be sure to unsubscribe from irrelevant email lists. To minimize your time spent sending emails, create templates for emails you send regularly, and in clude as much as you can in one email to reduce the need for back-and-forth Q&As.

people experience fluctu ations in their attention, motivation and energy levels. For example, many people feel the most alert around 10 a.m. and experience an energy crash around 2 p.m. Instead of working against these cycles, you can learn to work with your natural circadian rhythm to opti mize your productivity. Pay attention to how you feel throughout the day, and work on tasks that require the most energy and focus when your productivity peaks, while saving easier or mindless work for the after noon slumps.
