North Main St. in Manti or online at http://dmv.utah.gov. Hours of operation vary at the DMV office in Manti, so check online or call ahead to confirm times before heading out to register in person. 435 8352101.

Barclay Mechanical celebrates 40 years GLORIA ALBRECHT
The Pyramid
On Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, Barclay Mechanical in Manti celebrated 40 years of business success with an open house tour at their facility at 595 West 100 North in Manti. Hot dogs, drinks and snacks were given out, and attendees had a chance to win a Barclay Mechanical-made nativity. Forty years ago, Mike Barclay started Barclay Welding in Paul, Idaho with only five employees. They worked mostly repairing processing equipment and ASME boilers for sugar beet and potato factories. Five years later Michael Barclay invented the grain seed cart which allowed the potato factories to pick up the potatoes in masses. After making more than two dozen carts Barclay had the necessary funding to grow the business, changing his services from just welding, to Industrial Mechanical Construction. Along with the changing business model Barclay changed the name of the company to Barclay Mechanical Services Inc and took on large-scale structural steel construction, ASME boiler replacement and process piping. Fast forward to 1993, when Barclay started a sister company “Barclay Mechanical Services of Utah” in Manti, Utah. Barclay ran both companies in Idaho and Utah for 11 years. By the year 2000 Barclay Mechanical completed some of its biggest multi-million dollar projects, with 50% of the projects being outside of Utah and Idaho. Barclay sold Barclay Mechanical of Idaho in 2004, and in 2010 sold the Utah business in Manti to
already done so. Online registrations and re-registrations also include the option to access a printable permit for operating the vehicle while waiting for official decals and registration to arrive in the mail.

Michael Barclay, founder of Barclay Mechanical, with his wife Susan and grandson Peter Michael Bentz enjoy Barclay Mechanical’s 40th anniversary celebration on Saturday, Nov. 21. three of his sons. Kenneth, Scott and John Barclay continue to run the company in Manti from the 23,000 square foot facility on 100 north in Manti even though ninety percent of their work is now out of state and even international. Barclay Mechanical subcontracts galvanizing, excavation, engineering, electrical, insulation and coatings processes to local industries when working out of town. Locally they staff from six to eight welders full time in Manti and are proud of their on-the-job training program which has produced some of
the country’s finest welders who are qualified in ASME and AWS welding procedures. Barclay’s famously high-skilled welders are a product of its proven standard of excellence. Barclay Mechanical’s work in energy, food processing, production and agricultural sectors as well as their fabrication of ASME pressure vessels, high pressure piping, structural steel and numerous custom industrial metal products has positioned them as a leading mechanical contractor working all over the country. They recently completed an 18-month project building a new
flare stack for a refinery in North Salt Lake. Four years ago, Barclay Mechanical set up an endowment scholarship at Idaho State University for welding students. The endowment scholarship was in honor of Michael Barclay’s father (and current owners’ grandfather) Daniel Paskins Barclay who taught welding at Idaho State University (ISU) and was the department head of the welding program from 1962-1970. “Welders will always be needed.” Said Daniel P. Barclay as he was personally appearing at ISU to present the scholarship.
SALT LAKE CITY — During this unprecedented time, it is expected that more holiday gifts and greetings will be sent through the mail than ever before, as families and friends will hold virtual celebrations instead of opening gifts in person. The Postal Service always encourages customers to send their holiday gifts and cards early. This year is no different. The Postal Service begins planning for peak holiday season every January. To help handle the expected volume increase, the Postal Service has the ability to flex our network to meet the significant volume increases expected this year. This includes making sure the right equipment is available to sort, process and deliver the expected mail and package volumes. We also have 644,000 employees dedicated to ensuring gifts and greetings are delivered in time for the holidays. Seasonal workers are hired when and where needed, and technology has been expanded to enhance package tracking throughout the USPS processing and transportation networks. Sunday delivery will be expanded beginning Nov. 29 to locations with high package volumes. USPS already delivers packages on Sundays in most major cities. Mail carriers will also deliver packages for Please see MAIL, Page A2
Central Utah’s Secret Weapon in the Fight Against COVID-19: Gratitude MARK F. DALLEY
Gunnsion Hospital
Gratitude is one of the most powerful and profound influences in the world – and one of the things we need most in our fight against COVID-19. I want to express my deep gratitude to the numerous healthcare heroes and others in our community. I also want to offer a way in which each of us can express our appreciation this Thanksgiving in a manner that will make a big difference. As you probably know, a surge in
COVID-19 cases in Central Utah in recent weeks is taking its toll on healthcare workers and taxing our resources. The trend in cases we are seeing is troublesome. We are doing everything we can to keep up with the growing needs and are committed to providing the best service possible. At the same time, there is a breaking point which would have very serious consequences for our community. I know you can appreciate, like I do, the selfless heroes on the frontlines of the battle with COVID-19 who make
incredible sacrifices every day. When I walk through the hospital, I am humbled and feel immense pride for those I see who are making a difference and doing the little things despite the incredible physical and mental demands of their jobs. I am also thankful for patients who are kind, considerate and recognize that everyone is working to do their best. I know the gratitude expressed by patients to our staff means so much and motivates Please see GRATITUDE, Page A2
