PROVO-- North Sanpete Hawk football team made history Nov. 3 when they defeated the Morgan Trojans and advanced to the 3A State Finals. Despite opportunities in the past, the Hawks have never made it past the semi-finals in state competition; however, the Hawks flew past Morgan straight into the finals for the first time ever. The sense of anticipation could be felt at North Sanpete High School the day before as the team prepared for the game against Morgan. Junior kicker Devin Palmer expressed that overall the team felt very calm and confident in regards to the upcoming game. Previously in the season, the Hawks had suffered a few losses, but the team felt that those losses were against a team that has now greatly improved. When the Hawks finally took to the
field on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the new Provo High School, in Provo, the first quarter of play against the Trojans was commonplace as neither team scored keeping the score at 0-0 going into the second quarter. With nine minutes left in the second, the Morgan Trojans, punted the ball which was recovered by the Hawks at the one yard line. The Hawks faced a ninety-nine yard return, but there was a fumble on the snap, which resulted in a recovery and touch down for Morgan High. The Trojans then kicked in the extra point, bringing the score 7-0 in favor of Morgan. There was a sense of disappointment in the air, but it didn’t last long, as the second quarter ended up being a huge success for the Hawks. The momentum began when junior The North Sanpete Hawks line up for the national anthem at the start of the Connor Jorgensen made a 52-yard run semi-final game against the Morgan Trojans on Nov. 3. The Hawks made school which resulted in a touchdown, but history when they beat the Trojans and continued on to the 3A State Finals for the first time in school history.
