MT. PLEASANT— “We Are The North” is the theme announced by the North Sanpete High School (NSHS) student body officers and administration for Homecoming week at NSHS. The festivities begin on Monday, Sept. 16 and run until Saturday, Sept. 21. All are encouraged to join with the high school to celebrate and have some fun. This year’s Homecoming Royalty has been announced and Tawnee Allen will serve as queen; and her attendants are: Siri Huntington, junior; Paige Ison, sophomore; and Hope Shelley, freshman. Monday, Sept. 16 The celebration begins with “Hat Day” when students and various clubs and organizations will be spending a couple of hours in the afternoon decorating the windows of participating businesses around town. The decorated windows will be judged by high school staff for creativity and design. Tuesday, Sept. 17 Tuesday is “Tacky Tourist Tuesday” day. The girl’s tennis team will

be a “Toast the Templars” French toast party. The toast will be free if the match was attended, or for a small cost if coming later. Wednesday, Sept. 18 Wednesday is “Fake an Injury Day”. In the morning the Cross Country Track team will travel to compete at Carbonville Golf Course in Price. In the evening, at 6 p.m., the annual Powderpuff football game between the junior and senior girls will take place on the football field. It will also be movie night to see “Spiderman” at 8 p.m., at the Basin Drive-In. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. There is an admission fee. Thursday, Sept. 19 Thursday is “Fake Mustache Day.” It will be a busy day for sports as the boys golf team will travel to compete at Palisade Golf Course in Sterling. The girl’s tennis team faces off against Juab High at home that afternoon. The volleyball team will compete at American Leadership Academy (ALA) in Spanish Fork. Then at 4 p.m. the girls’ soccer team takes on ALA on the NSHS soccer field. The Junior Varsity and freshmen football teams will be out of

town playing games against at ALA. Meanwhile in Mt. Pleasant, at 6 p.m., the Powerstuff Volleyball takes place in the NSHS main gym. Friday, Sept. 20 Friday is “Spirit Day – RED OUT (Game Day Shirt)”. That morning, from 9-10 a.m., the seniors will have a meeting. At the same time, the other students will be involved in a Hawk Strong Service Project. At 12:15 p.m., a homecoming assembly will be held. After lunch, there will be parade preparations followed by the homecoming parade which begins at 4 p.m. and starts at 300 North and travels south along State Street. There is a tailgate party at 5:30 p.m., in the school parking lot, followed by the Homecoming Football Game at 7 p.m., against American Leadership Academy. Saturday, Sept. 21 The final event takes place with the Homecoming Dance, from 8:30-11 p.m., at North Sanpete High School, 390 East 700 South, Mt. Pleasant. It is boy’s choice and semi-formal dress for the occasion. There is an admission fee.

Plein Air competition results released, awards presented SPRING CITY — Over 110 artists, local and out of state, participated in the annual Plein Air competition held Aug. 24-31 in Spring City. The judging has been done and the grand prize winner of $1,500 is Kimball Geisler, of Idaho Falls, ID. Jeff Horn served as judge of this

year’s event and had to choose the winners from about 300 paintings. Second Place went to Ken Spencer, of Blackfoot, ID. Third Place to Natalie Shupe, Liberty. Bryan Thayne won the award for best watercolor. Michelle Nixon, Logan, won the People’s Choice Award for her water-

color painting of the Sanpete County Fair. The quick paint award winners are as follows: First place went to Susette Gertsch, Midway; second was Steve Stauffer, Murray, and third was Trjisten Leach, California. With all the great artistic arts created during the event, the choice

was difficult, so Horn also gave out 10 honorable mention awards to artists including Susan Gallacher, Doug Fryer and Ken Baxter, all of Spring City. Many of the awards included cash prizes and there was over $10,000 received by artists in purchase awards.

SVS Christmas season rehearsals begin Sept. 15 MT. PLEASANT — It’s that magic time again and Sanpete Valley Singers (SVS), a community choir, are set to begin rehearsals for Christmas concerts Sunday, Sept. 15, at 4 p.m., at the Mt. Pleasant Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 300 South State Street. SVS is a true community choir with membership open to all. “We neither ask nor consider a member’s religious preference,” Clark said. “If you can sing, we want you.” Directed by Dr. Roy Ellefsen and Choir President Steven Clark this 2019 Christmas season marks the group’s 18th year of bringing beautiful Christmas music to the Sanpete Valley and beyond. “We are a performance oriented choir,” Clark says. The choir typically performs five concerts during the season in Mt. Pleasant, Fountain Green, Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison and concludes with two performances on one night at Temple Square in Salt Lake City.

Register to vote, reminder to be ready MANTI — Sanpete County Clerk’s Office reminds all county residents that most cities in Sanpete will be holding Municipal Elections on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Ballots will be mailed to all registered voters on Oct. 15. Have you moved, or changed your name since you last registered to vote? Do you need to update your voter registration? Make it easy when it comes to voting by registering as soon as possible. To register, go online to vote.utah. gov. While there, users can check their registration to be sure the information is correct and make corrections or update their record. Users can also register for the first time. Note that, in order to register online to vote, an address must match the address on file with the Driver License Division. If the driver license address is not current, please update the address with the Driver License Division. This must be done before submitting online voter registration. To check driver’s license information, visit https://secure.utah.gov/ dlr/index.html. Residents can also register in person at the Sanpete County Clerk’s Office at 160 North Main, Suite 202, in Manti. Be sure to bring personal government issued identification (ID). Governor Herbert supports Cox’s gubernatorial campaign SALT LAKE CITY — The Cox for Governor campaign recently reported a donation from Utah Governor Gary Herbert, his first donation toward Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox’s bid to become Utah’s next governor. The donation of $50,000 came from Gov. Herbert’s political action committee. Last January, the Governor also hosted the Lt. Gov.’s first fundraiser as lieutenant governor. “Gov. Herbert has been an incredible mentor and friend and his ongoing support is extraordinary,” said Spencer Cox. “His steady leadership brought Utah out of the depths of the Great Recession and into the strongest economy in the nation. Now, as our state faces new opportunities, I am grateful for the governor’s confidence in me to lead us into the future.” Since announcing his candidacy in May, more than 1,000 unique individuals have donated to Lt.
