Fairview Pioneer Days in full swing

FAIRVIEW — The big Pioneer Days celebration in Fairview continues as the Lace Days wraps up Wednesday, July 17. But the events are far from over as attendees can look forward to another week of fun. Activities will include an icebreaker, kids rodeo, softball tourney, OHV Ride for Food, SMS golf tourney, horse parade, rodeo, DUP fireside program, tennis competition, art walk, ATV rodeo, fun run, fireman’s breakfast, mammoth parade, EMT barbeque lunch, kids games, vintage car show, Fairview Idol, demolition derby and fireworks. Thursday, July 18 At 7 p.m., the fun kid’s activities icebreaker, which may include a watermelon bust, pie eating contest and games, will take place at the Fairview City Ball Park, 100 North 200 West. Friday, July 19 The Kids Rodeo comes to the big arena at 7 p.m., 350 South 85 East. Participants must register one hour early. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the gate. Saturday, July 20 Early in the morning at 7 a.m., the annual softball tournament will start at the Fairview City Ball Park, 100 North 200 West. Then at 8 a.m., check-in for the Sixth Annual OHV Ride for Food. Participants need to register in ad-

be presented by the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, in the Fairview Ward (Rock Church) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 131 East 100 North. Monday, July 22 At 3 p.m., a tennis competition will be held for youth singles at the Sports Park, 500 South 85 East. Remember to register in advance for all sports at Fairview City Hall, 85 South State, or call (435) 427-3858. In the evening, at 8 p.m., the tennis competition continues with doubles play at the Sports Park. Tuesday, July 23 The tennis continues at 3 p.m., when the adult singles compete at the Sports Park. From 3-5 p.m., the Third Annual Utah’s Beauty and Heritage Art Walk will be presented at the Fairview Museum of History and Art, 84 North 100 East. There will be a special speaker and open house reception. The Utah’s Beauty and Heritage Art Walk showcases local artists combined with others from all over the state. The artists will have art on display, some of which will be for sale. After the reception, the exhibit will be on display through Aug. 8. Mitch Jackson named Fairview horse parade grand marshal

Mitchell Jackson has been named grand marshal of the 2019 Fairview City Horse Parade scheduled to be held at 6 p.m., Saturday, July 20. He resides in Milburn with his family. He has also served as rodeo chairman of Fairview Pioneer Days for the past seven years.

MILBURN — Mitchell Jackson was selected as the 2019 grand marshal for the annual Fairview Pioneer Day Horse Parade to be held at 6 p.m., Saturday, July 20. Jackson is the son of Bryce and Georgia Jackson. He resides in Milburn, where he has spent all but a few years of his life. Mitch and Kerrie have three sons, one daughter and one daughter-in-law. Mitch can fix anything, but he also has an artistic side. He has made many carved items with a chain saw including horseheads, an eagle, pumpkins, saddle stools, snowmen and bears. He has braided whips from leather and paracord; made spurs and knives. He has tried to pass some of those things on to his children. Mitch loves to hunt, ride horses, shoot guns, fish and do about anything outdoors with his family. He

works long hours and has used as his family moto, “We work hard and play hard, but we mostly work”. Mitch is the water master of Milburn, he currently serves in the bishopric in the Indianola Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is a machinist by trade for 36 years. He has served as the rodeo chairman for Fairview City for seven years. Mitch commutes every day to work in Provo to provide for his family so he can continue to live in Milburn. To celebrate his birthday this year, he will be hunting for a Desert Big Horn Sheep that he has been applying for 22 years and finally drew a permit! Mitch loves Sanpete County particularly Milburn and Fairview and has always found great joy in living by good people and serving a community he calls home.

friends who have made the town what it is today. David and Linda started dating in high school and married shortly after on Feb. 6, 1970. They will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in February 2020. The couple have five children. One son, Allen, lives in Fountain Green and has served the town and Lamb Day in many ways. SANPETE COUNTY — Centerfield City celebrates Pioneer Day on Tuesday, July 23, while Mayfield and Sterling both celebrate on Wednesday, July 24. Several fun activities are scheduled for the events. Centerfield City Celebrations are held Wednesday, July 23, with the Pioneer Day Parade at 6 p.m. It will be followed by dinner at 7 p.m., at the Centerfield Church bowery, 230 South Main. The dinner is by donation. At dark there will be a fireworks display which can be viewed from the bowery. Mayfield Pioneer Day On Pioneer Day, Wednesday, July 24, the events in Mayfield get underway with a Mammoth parade at 10 a.m. There will be games, food and entertainment in the city park, 200 North Main Street. At 11 a.m., there will be live music and entertainment, including a carnival and games with a water slide and food available until 2 p.m. A live auction will take place at 1 p.m., followed by a wild duck race at 1:30 p.m. The games continue at 2 p.m., with a greased pig chase and money grab, after which the winners will be announced. Sterling Pioneer Day July 24, Pioneer Day in Sterling hosts plenty of games, food, music, dancing, fireworks and fun. Everyone is encouraged to bring their family, friends and join in. At 6 a.m., the Sterling Fire Department does their wake-up call. Then at 6:45 a.m., interested participants can register for the 5k Run at the Sterling Community Center, 110 West 100 North. The run begins at 7 a.m. From 7-9 a.m., the annual Bishopric Breakfast will be held at the Sterling Ward bowery of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 20 South Main. The Pioneer Day Parade begins at 9 a.m., at 100 West 200 South. Those who want to be in the parade need to contact Jane Voorhees at (435) 851-0705 in advance. Christensens named Lamb Day grand marshals FOUNTAIN GREEN — David and Linda Christensen have been named as grand marshals for Fountain Green Lamb Days and will lead the annual parade at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 20. About Christensens David and Linda Christensen have lived in Fountain Green nearly their entire lives. They both have ancestors that settled in Fountain Green when it was first established and on up through the generations. So, their roots run deep. The Christensens love the peace and country feeling that the Fountain Green area offers and the history of the town and its people, family and
