Spring City Heritage Days celebration May 25-26
Historic Spring City LDS Ward, 164 South Main, is one of the tour sites during Spring City Heritage Day celebrations on Saturday, May 26. In addition, Brian Stucki, world renowned tenor, will provide free mini-concerts in the building at 11 a.m., 12 noon, and 1 p.m.
SPRING CITY — Friends of Historic Spring City announce the annual Spring City Heritage Day celebrations Friday and Saturday, May 25-26. Heritage Day includes mini concert performances, an art auction, antique sale, handcrafted wares, breakfast, lunch and the annual town tour that includes many of the towns charming, mid-19th Century pioneer homes and buildings. Friday, May 25 The events kick-off on Friday, from 5 – 8 p.m., during a sneak a peek preview of antiques and original art works that will go on sale Saturday morning in the Spring City Community Center (SCCC) located at 45 South 100 East. There is nominal entry fee. Saturday, May 26 On Saturday breakfast will be served in the city park, behind the SCCC, from 8-10 a.m. Coffee will be available until 11 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at the historic Spring City LDS Chapel, 164 South Main Street. From 11 a.m.-3 p.m., there will also be a Food Truck round-up providing a variety of edible delights. Many craft-booths will display and sell a variety of locally handcrafted wares and artisanal fare on
the first floor of the SCCC. The annual antique sale will be from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., in the SCCC and will be followed by the annual Art Squared silent auction held at 2 p.m., where patrons can bid on one-foot square paintings by well-known Spring City artists, including Lee Bennion, Susan Gallacher, M’Lisa Paulsen, Doug Fryer, Kathleen Peterson, Cassandria Parsons, Lynn Farrar, Ken Baxter, and other Utah artists. Additional works by these, and other wellknown Utah artists, will also be on sale at the Spring City Art Gallery, 79 South Main. Historic home tour hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and tickets may be purchased at the SCCC, 45 South 100 East, or at the Main Street Firehouse. There will be 25 historic pioneer buildings open to the public this year, including the old Bishop’s Storehouse, the old pioneer chapel on Main Street, Victory Hall, and 18 private homes. Spring City is just east of Highway 89, between Mt. Pleasant and Ephraim.
Flag ceremonies, breakfasts honor Memorial Day SANPETE COUNTY — Monday, May 28 is Memorial Day. It is that special day on which all soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen who have given their lives in defense of our country are honored with flag ceremonies at local cemeteries and special breakfasts in their honor. Flag Ceremonies Ephraim City will hold a special ceremony at 10 a.m., at the Park Cemetery gazebo, 620 North Main. Guest speaker Jack Keisel will address his experiences with the Honor Flight. All are welcome to attend. Manti American Legion Post 31 will present a ceremony at 11 a.m., at Manti City Cemetery. It will be followed by a ceremony at 12 noon, in the Sterling Cemetery. Both ceremonies will include a 21 gun salute and remarks. Mt. Pleasant VFW Post 9276 and American Legion Post 4 will be honoring these brave men and women with a special ceremony at the following cemeteries: Fairview Cem-
etery, at 10:30 a.m.; Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, at 11 a.m.; and the Spring City Cemetery, at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend. The Mt. Pleasant VFW Post 9276 is also asking for as many volunteers as possible to help, put up and take down, the flags at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The flags will be raised at 3 p.m., Friday, May 25. The flags will be lowered and removed Tuesday, May 29, at 10 a.m. Breakfasts Memorial Day breakfasts will be held in Gunnison and Mayfield beginning at 8 a.m. Gunnison The Gunnison Valley Lions Club breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m., at the Gunnison Park Lions Pavilion, 51 West 200 North. Breakfast can be purchased at the pavilion with all the fixings, including biscuits and gravy, hotcakes, eggs, ham, fruit juice and milk. Mayfield Mayfield Lions Club breakfast will

All proceeds will go to the Moran Eye Center, Leader Dogs for the Blind, and Lions Club International Foundation.
MT. PLEASANT — North Sanpete High School Commencement will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, May 25, in the North Sanpete High School gymnasium, 390 East 700 South, Mt. Pleasant. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Free admission. Those attending are asked to honor the seniors by dressing appropriately for this formal event. Commencement program begins with the processional, followed by the National Anthem, performed by North Sanpete Junior and Senior Choir. Address of welcome will be given by Senior Class President Alex Larsen. McKay Lindow will speak and the choir will sing, “Closer to the Flame,” accompanied by Debi Fowles. Anna Staker and Tara Jo Dyches will also speak. The choir will then sing, “Into the West,” followed by speaker MaKade Talbot. Retrospect will be given by Allyssa Ericksen and the graduating class will sing the school song. Principal Nan Ault will present the class and North Sanpete School District Superintendent Dr. Samuel Ray and School Board President Greg Bailey will present diplomas. The graduating class will then sing, “Now is the Hour,” before the recessional.
Wasatch Academy commencement set May 25-26 MT. PLEASANT — Wasatch Academy (WA) commencement will take place Friday and Saturday, May 25-26 with activities and events on campus. Friday, May 25, the Jensen-Gill Fine Arts Festival will take place all day with a visual arts show in the Studio Arts Center and throughout the campus. From 5:30-6:30 p.m., a dinner will be held in the Loftin-Lewis Student Center, followed by the Jensen-Gill Performance Showcase in the Tiger’s Den at 7 p.m. A senior slide show and ice cream social at 8:15 p.m., will follow dinner. On Saturday, May 26, 9-10:45 a.m., a breakfast will be held in the Loftin-Lewis Student Center followed by commencement ceremonies at 11 a.m. on the Wasatch Academy Quad. This year’s commencement speaker will be Sonita Alizadeh, a rapper and activist who has been vocal about forced marriages for young girls will be introduced by Joseph R. Loftin, Head of School. Student speakers are Sydney Sauer, Mingyang “David” Liu, Emma Kennedy and Lucas Roth. Two musical numbers; “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World,” arranged by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, will be performed by Emme Hardy and Charli Dill; and Oliver Pan will perform “Meditation from Thais,” by Jules Massenet. Presentation of the Class of 2018 will be done by Assistant Head of School for Academics Dr. J. Dianne Brederson followed by presentation of the senior gift by Camilla Taysi, 2018 Class President, after which Joseph R. Loftin, Head of School will present diplomas. Circle Ceremony will be led by Assistant Head of School for Academics Dr. J. Dianne Brederson. A reception will then be held in the Loftin-Lewis Student Center immediately following commencement.
