The eight teachers awarded are Paul Allred, Selena Shelley, Ken Hansen, Rebecca Stum, Kathy Dimick, Tiffany Wright, Harold Orton and Susan Jacobson. Paul Allred Paul Allred has been teaching at North Sanpete High School for the past 16 years and has taught for a total of 20 years. Allred exhibits a skill and ability to teach various media at a level required for high school students and has exposed his classes to the world of art, graphics, sculpture, ceramics, photography, painting, drawing and print making. A number of his students have had success participating in various competitions. Allred has also worked with Snow College and Wasatch Academy to establish local art competition opportunities to win scholarships. Selena Shelley Selena Shelley began her career in NSSD as a bus driver. It is evident that she cares about each student and wants to ensure their success. Ken Hansen Ken Hansen has been involved in education for many years. He has been an instructor for the past five years at the Pleasant Creek High

School, Mt. Pleasant. He has been teaching English classes and the students have been reading Shakespeare with some excitement. The students have enjoyed great success with over 70 percent having achieved above a 3.0 GPA this last term. The Pleasant Creek SOAR class is expected to have 20 graduates this year, which is a record to date. Hansen has set the standards for his students and with his great rapport with them, the students continually pass or break above them. He is an amazing example of what it takes to reach all students. FAIRVIEW — North Sanpete Community Wildfire Council (NSCWC), in conjunction with the National Fire Protection Association, will sponsor a Wildfire Risk Assessment Event Wednesday, May 1; Thursday, May 2; and Saturday, May 4. Residents and property owners in the North Sanpete County located north of Milburn, on both the east and west side of Highway 89 are encouraged to participate. Trained Assessors provided by the Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands will walk the property with the owner to assess specific wildfire risks and suggest an action plan to minimize those risks. This service is provided at no cost to the owner through a grant awarded to our North Sanpete Community Wildfire Council. Studies show communities that prepare and take action to reduce risks have the greatest resiliency in a wildfire. A Risk Assessment is the most important step to take in beginning to understand wildfire behavior and create defensible space. Not only does it identify firewise actions the property owner can take, but it may also identify opportunities for additional assistance from the Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands covered by our North Sanpete Community Wildfire Council grant(s). For additional information contact Kathi Walters at (989) 495-3967.
