Vidrio pleads guilty to Nay murder, sentencing set ASHLEY STILSON

Daily Herald

PROVO — A Mt. Pleasant man pleaded guilty last week to killing another Mt. Pleasant resident in 2016 and burning his remains in a shallow grave. Raul Vidrio, 21, filed guilty pleas in Fourth District Court to murder, a first-degree felony; obstructing justice, a second-degree felony; and abuse of a dead body, a third-degree felony. The sentencing is scheduled for May 23. In October 2016, Wesley Nay, 22, was found buried in a grassy meadow near Indianola. He had died from stabbing and blunt trauma, the Medical Examiner’s Office reported. A witness told investigators he went with Vidrio to cut wood in Indianola Canyon in August 2016 before Nay was reported missing. The area where they went was yards from where the

remains were found, court records stated. Vidrio was arrested in September 2016 for reportedly stealing a truck, according to court documents. “Located in the bed of the truck at the time of Mr. Vidrio’s arrest were shovels, a pick and gas jugs,” police reported. Deputies also found a large knife inside the truck. DNA tests determined the blood on the knife belonged to Nay. According to charging documents, Vidrio reportedly “placed Nay’s body in a shallow grave lined with wood, doused it with gasoline and lit it on fire. Once Nay’s body was mostly destroyed and disfigured by the fire, the defendant partially filled in the grave, concealing Nay’s remains under several inches of dirt.” Officers said Vidrio is a known drug dealer in Mt. Pleasant and associated with a specific gang.

The life of Troy Osmond will be commemorated in concert by the Central Utah Master Chorale Saturday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m., in the Jorgensen Concert Hall at the Eccles Center for the Performing Arts, 300 East Center, Ephraim.

EPHRAIM — The Central Utah Master Chorale (CUMC) will present, “In Memorium,” a concert commemorating the life of Troy Osmond Saturday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m., in the Jorgensen Concert Hall at the Eccles Center for the Performing Arts, 300 East Center, Ephraim. Tickets online at www.snow.edu/finearts or call (435) 283-7478. Building on their recent triumphant performance of Messiah, Conductor Dr. Michael Huff explains the motivation for the concert: “Some years before I arrived at Snow College, Merrill and Mary Osmond, — Merrill of The Osmond Brothers fame — donated an organ to the Horne School of Music at Snow College.” “Their son, Troy took particular interest in the instrument as he was an accomplished amateur organist,

and we were working on repairing the organ for use at the Horne School of Music.” “In fact,” says Huff, “Troy was constantly in communication with us as we were working up a concert on which he and the organ would be prominently featured. With Troy’s unexpected passing, we wish to honor him by presenting the kind of concert he was yearning for.” The centerpiece of the concert will be the Requiem by French organist and composer, Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986). The Requiem will be flanked with short anthems and songs that were dear to Troy, and will feature the organ and chorus. Proceeds will be used to assist with repairs and maintenance of the Merrill and Mary Osmond Organ at the Horne School of Music, Snow College.

MT. PLEASANT—Two confirmed cases of Mumps have been found in the North Sanpete School District area. Non-vaccinated students and those who marked their registration forms as exempt, parents and employees of the district were informed of the cases. North Sanpete Superintendent Dr. Sam Ray said, “There is no reason for parents and students to panic

or keep students at home. There is a 26-day incubation period for the one case which would be passed by May 5. Unvaccinated students may attend school as long as there is no known case at that particular school. This is a difficult time for this to happen because schools are involved with state testing.” Dr. Ray said every effort is being made to keep schools safe and will do their best to contact parents in the event that Mumps occurs in other schools.

PLEASANT — Called “the funniest play ever written” by the New York Post, North Sanpete High School’s (NSHS) award winning drama program’s production of “Noises off!”, the hilarious farce, will be presented at 7 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, April 24-27, on stage at North Sanpete High School, 390 East 700 South, Mt. Pleasant. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets available at the door. Noises Off! Is a unique comedy about a group of second rate actors putting on a play that goes disastrously awry. Doors slamming, misconstrued lines and crazy conflicts between the characters will have audiences roaring with laughter from start to finish. High School theater teacher Director Alex Barlow says that, “Noises Off! Is hands down the funniest and the most challenging script we have ever produced and probably ever will produce.” “Our technical theater class and our crew have worked together to build a two story rotating set and put together hundreds of props,” he re-
