MT. PLEASANT—North Sanpete School District (NSSD), School Board met March 17. During the meeting the district approved next year’s school calendar and the Capital Needs funding for the district. In addition, the bond refunding (refinancing) was assessed and will proceed, aiming at lowering the interest rate on the school bond. The NSSD reports that it is following guidelines set forth by Governor Herbert and the State Health Department in responding to the COVID 19 Pandemic. All Utah public schools were dismissed Monday, March 16, for two weeks, then re-evaluation will determine future education services. There will be no school services provided this week during Spring Break. Online instruction for students began March 18 after students picked up their iPad and learning materials that day. No busing of students will be provided until

further notice. Grab & Go (breakfast / lunch) meals have been scheduled for each school. Visit the NSSD website for schedules and lots of additional information at www.nsanpete.org. Sam Ray, superintendent of North Sanpete School District, reports that students in the NSSD are ahead of the curve when it comes to remote learning. Many teachers have an ED TECH endorsement, enabling them to effectively teach classes and distribute assignments and lessons online. Furthermore, all secondary school students already have devices and use Canvas for remote lessons, while students in pre-kindergarten thru six grade, who currently don’t have a device, will be given one to use at home if needed. CentraCom has contributed by upping the bandwidth to homes of students free of charge and installing the service free of charge for other students.

Three seniors receive FFA state degrees MT. PLEASANT — Three North Sanpete High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) members, Taner Jorgensen, Kaleb Curtis and Wyatt Farnsworth, have completed the requirements and earned their State FFA degree. These three young men should have received their degrees during the State Degree ceremony next week at Southern Utah University, but due to the virus outbreak, the ceremony has been postponed with no rescheduled date as of now. It’s been several years since the North Sanpete Chapter has had any-

one receive this award. The State FFA Degree is awarded to FFA members who have demonstrated the highest level of commitment to the FFA Association. They must have previously earned their Chapter Degree for at least one year, been an active member for 2+ years, worked for a minimum of 500 excess hours out of class time to name a few of the requirements. Taner Jorgensen is the son of Troy and Staci Jorgensen, Mt. Pleasant. He is a senior at North Sanpete High School and is currently the North Sanpete FFA Reporter. Kaleb Curtis is the son of Sam and Marcy Cur-

tis, Mt. Pleasant. He is also a senior at North Sanpete High School. He is currently the North Sanpete FFA Chapter President. Wyatt Farnsworth is the son of Kerry and Rachel Farnsworth, Fountain Green. He is the North Sanpete FFA Social Media Specialist and is also a senior. These three young men have spent many hours bettering the FFA program at the high school. They work closely with their advisor, Kevin Allen, and have had many great experiences being a part of this great program.

MT. PLEASANT—During the regular scheduled Mt. Pleasant City Council meeting held March 10, the council discussed meeting times, downtown lighting, UAMPS rebate program, spring clean-up, water and fire department equipment. Meeting times The meeting time of the second council meeting each month has been changed to 6:30 p.m. and will include public participation now. Previously the meeting was held in the afternoon at 4:30 p.m. and did

not include public participation. With this meeting time change, Mt. Pleasant City Council meetings will be held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m., unless otherwise announced. Downtown lighting Mt. Pleasant Power Department Superintendent Shane Ward reported on the downtown lighting project. He explained that he and crew took down one of the old current light poles to determine what would be involved in the pole and fixture replacement project. With that information and follow-

ing discussions with the contractor who is scheduled to do the replacements, adjustments to the contract have been made. Ward announced that Mt. Pleasant City power department employees will remove the poles after their regular working hours and will be paid for that labor by the contractor. They will become temporary laborers for the contractor and should be covered by the contractor’s insurance. Snow College’s Horne Activity Center to temporarily close EPHRAIM, UT– Snow College announces the upcoming, temporary closure of the Horne Activity Center, located at 350 East Center Street, Ephraim. This closure includes the swimming pool, racquetball, both gyms and the dance studio. In addition, the fitness center located in the Bergeson Athletic Center. Concerns about the COVID-19 virus and renovations to the facility will cause unavailability throughout the summer, effective now – Aug. 21, 2020. The facility will not be available to the public, with the possible exception of the college’s commencement ceremony on May 2. Summer youth groups may also utilize parts of the

building throughout the closure. Construction crews will be on-site installing a new floor and bleachers in the main gym and updating aspects of the swimming pool area.
